Random ramblings cuz I have nothing better to do... or something... :)
This is the site formerly known as Anneke's Haven. Within, you will find information about my previous White Wolf chronicles, and other random gaming related stuff. I also have a blog here, where I talk about pretty much everything and anything, though it's primarily about my exciting life... the definition of exciting definitely being up for debate.
Enjoy your visit, and come back soon!
1. What's your favorite piece of clothing that you currently own? I have a lot of favorites, really. I guess it would have to be my really long, really comfy jean shorts tho. The ones that used to be my favorite jeans, until they developed a large hole in one knee, and I had to cut them off.
2. What piece of clothing do you most want to acquire? I really want the Hello Cthulhu baby tee... :)
3. What piece of clothing can you not bring yourself to get rid of? Why? My totally faded and beat up Batman shirt, that I bought when the first Batman movie came out (around 1991, I think)... the fabric on it is sooooo soft now, even though the Batman logo is all cracked and peeling.
4. What piece of clothing do you look your best in? My black satiny pants that look like a skirt. I think Dana said they were made of acetate (or something like it) the last time she saw them. Doesn't matter what I put with them, they always look good, and make me feel good about how I look... :)
5. What has been your biggest fashion accident? Wow, where to begin? Let's just say that I lived through the '80s, was old enough to make some of my own fashion decisions, and regret them. Jams (the sorta longish Hawaiian printed shorts) and "Hammer pants" (c'mon, you have to remember Hammer pants!) come to mind.

"Oh god! They're escaping! They're all escaping!" --... or something along those lines, as the animal cracker avalanche began...
I think I'll be finding animal crackers in my kitchen for a long time to come... :)

In other news, we finished Jack & Jubilee's background last night, at a whopping 21 pages. I think this is the longest background that I've ever written. Yes, I realize that it's a background for two characters, but even if you cut that in half, it's STILL longer than any other backgrounds I've written. Morgan's was only 7 pages! And yes, the background will eventually be posted. But not yet. We want to have SOME secrets when we start playing The American Frontier (which starts next Friday... w00t!)
And the Forgotten is Saturday, and I've heard we're going to have visiting players... not sure whether to be really happy about that, or a bit apprehensive... we shall see! :)
Jess posted this first, but I had to add it to my page as well. 50 Reasons why Lord of the Rings sucks. Nice... :) I have to go with #22 as my favorite. Because we all know that elves do have glands on their backs that secrete arrows... :)
Was playing around with new desktops at work yesterday, but all of them were far too dark and gloomy for my really dark monitor... yes, I've attempted to adjust it to not be so dark, and only made a slight improvement. Too much lighter, though, and the white will be blinding... that's no good! So I went back to the same old desktop I've always had... *sigh*...
And I must MUST MUST get to work on Jubilee's background tonight! And get it done, while I'm at it! Shouldn't be too much more work though... at this point, it's mainly an exercise in keeping it short and to the point, and not let myself go off on too many rambling tangents. I already had to take out one section, cuz it seemed really pointless... luckily, I worked the gist of it back into the main story, so that all my research didn't go completely to waste. I have a stack of about 40 pages that I printed out from the internet just to write this background... wow... :)
My brain is a bizarre, bizarre place... I'm walking into work this morning, when I realize that the song that is running through my head is "Sapphire Bullets of Pure Love" by They Might Be Giants. That's off of Flood. I haven't listened to that in AGES! Luckily, I got it on CD not too long ago, so I can listen to it when I get home, if I wanna... but it's just soooo weird for a song that I haven't heard for (easily) more than a year to be stuck in my head...
Work is still work... I'm still working on the really long HTML file, though I'm to the proofreading stage now... and I got through a good chunk of it yesterday. Go me! :)
Forgot to mention yesterday that I finally got a copy of Encyclopedia Vampirica! I ended up having to buy it on eBay, cuz they were out of them here in town. But seeing as I probably got a better deal on it on eBay (even factoring in the discount I get when I buy it here vs. the shipping I had to pay for the eBay copy), I'm pretty happy! And, of course, poor editing aside (the bane of White Wolf books), I love it! :) Now I have to go back through my "genealogy" of Vampires that I've been working on for a few years now, and make sure it matches with the stuff in the book... *sigh*...
Oh, who am I kidding... I love this stuff! :)
And an update on Jack & Jubilee's background, for those who are interested: it hit 15 pages last night... with a bunch more to go... :)
Sorry for the radio silence... the SWG has been a little sick (nothing to worry about, I got medicine now!)... but I'm back in action now! :)
The Forgotten Saturday didn't go exactly as planned. We accomplished what we set out to do, but in the end, it meant very little. Probably didn't help that due to me starting to be sick on Friday night, I was dead tired on Saturday night, so didn't stay for the whole game. It was looking like a big mass combat was about to break out anyway, and I hate HATE HATE mass combat! Specially since I'm a narrator, and might be needed to help with the running of it... no fun!
Now for a "who the fuck cares?" / public service announcement...
The concert I was trying to remember the other day is September 19th, at The Pageant (in St. Louis), and it's Unwritten Law, with The Juliana Theory, Aimee Allen, and a-fourforty. Right. I think The Juliana Theory was the other one that I thought I had heard of... though I can't figure out where... :)
I just remembered something while I was having lunch that is sooooo going to make my life in the Forgotten easier... it's one of those things that I doubt ANYONE else will remember, till I bring it up...
1. What is your current occupation? Is this what you chose to be doing at this point in your life? Why or why not? I am the textual editor for the Ulysses S. Grant Association (and I run the webpage!). What this means in English is that I work in historical editing, which is very very different from other editing (like newspaper editing). My job is mostly a bunch of secretarial stuff, but I also do some research, sometimes...
This is very much what I chose to be doing, and I'm glad that I came to southern Illinois when I did, cuz everything just fell into place from there on out! :)
2. If time/talent/money were no object, what would your dream occupation be? Anything where I could stay at home and work while wearing my pajamas. I dunno why, I just like the idea of working in my pajamas... :)
3. What did/do your parents do for a living? Has this had any influence on your career choices? My dad is an electronic engineer (not the same as an electrical engineer), and my mom was a housewife for most of my life, but is now a bookkeeper at a church. About the only influence it had on my career choices is that I knew I didn't want to have a job like my dad's, cuz he often has to work outside in the summer... yucky!
4. Have you ever had to choose between having a career and having a family? Nope!
5. In your opinion, what is the easiest job in the world? What is the hardest? Why? Believe it or not, "flipping burgers" is NOT the easiest job in the world... I did that for long enough to know! :) I think some of the people that work on the first floor in the library have it pretty good though... they mostly sit around all day, and then they have some sort of meetings at least once a week. Sometimes more often than that!
Hardest job? Anything with lots of math... I soooo hate having to do all the accounting type stuff around here. But that's probably high on my list of things I hate because I had to do a lot of it yesterday!

I don't have any good quotes for the "End of the Work Week Wisdom"... feel free to drop one in my comments... :)
So Rafe is getting antsy about the Sabbat game, cuz I keep talking about it... which means I'm going to keep talking about it more and more and more... :) I had another good idea for my background while I was laying down after work yesterday... didn't actually work on my background any though, that's what I'm doing tonight! :) I feel sooooo sorry for Jason and Nick... my background was almost four full pages, double spaced, when I finished working on it on Wednesday night... with all of the new ideas I've got, it's easily gonna hit 10, if not more. Gabe's background (which goes with mine) is 4 pages, double spaced, and he has more to work on. And then we have to write the combined part of our background... so I wouldn't be surprised if this whole think runs close to 20 pages... though if we single space it, only half that... :)
And I soooo cannot wait for the Forgotten this week. Things are simmering quite interestingly, and are sure to start boiling over on Saturday night... lotsa fun and chaos! Just what the little Ravnos loves! :)
Bored bored bored... so I thought I'd take a few more tests... like all but the ones that I knew I wouldn't score anything on...
I am 33% Emo Hmm.. I should stop listening to Dashboard Confessional.... enough said... Now that I stopped looking at my shoes, I know how the real world looks. Take the Emo Test at fuali.com
I am 27% Geek You probably work in computers, or a history deptartment at a college. You never really fit in with the "normal" crowd. But you have friends, and this is a good thing. Take the Geek Test at fuali.com
I am 35% Tortured Artist I have some artistic ability, but it is probably a hobby and doesn't drive my life into a dark abysmal hole were I am alone and against the world. Take the Tortured Artist Test at fuali.com
I am 38% Grunge What's this? The longest I've been without a shower is three days? Not even close, man. I should go sit out in the rain for a week. Take the Grunge Test at fuali.com
I am 39% Internet Addict I could go either way. Deep into the madness of nights filled with coding CGI-Scripts and online role playing games, or I could become a normal user. Good luck! Take the Internet Addict Test at fuali.com
I am 24% Raver Have I even been to a rave? I'll go home. I am a Loser. I suck. Actually, I am probably just a normal person taking this test and don't know why. Take the Raver Test at fuali.com
So there it is... I'm not really anything... :) Scary that my goth score is the highest... :)
I am 44% Goth Goth ny night, normal by day. Deep in my heart I know I am evil, but not on the company's time. I do need to eat. Take the Goth Test at fuali.com
So the C-dale Sabbat game starts back up soon, and I'm bringing in my new character, Jubilee... I got a good start on her background last night. I had already written through her Embrace, and was working on her Creation Rites when I ran out of ideas. Now I've got her through that, through her relationship with her Sire, and through her first big... project... can't give too many details away here, though, because I want her to have SOME secrets when she comes into game. Now I've got her poised at the edge of the twentieth century, with about 90 years to write through before the next event that I have partially written in my brain comes up. Still have that whole Code of Milan writing up (1933) and Third Sabbat Civil War (1957) to get through, but the rest of her time is sorta non-committed... but I'm sure I'll come up with something! :)
I think it's gonna be interesting to play her, though. Not only is she Malkavian antitribu, she's also survived for FAR longer than your average member of the Sabbat would. And she's VERY hardcore Sabbat, like as in the way it's written in the books. I'm really hoping that won't cause too many problems, because it seems like a lot of the people who will be playing in the game are a little iffy on what it means to be Sabbat... I'd like to teach them, but my IC teaching won't be very nice... :)
Now I just gotta come up with her look... the one I was thinking about isn't gonna pan out too well, at the moment... so it's back to digging through my wardrobe to find something that will work... :)
Why am I all hungry this morning? It's just after 10 a.m., and I'm already ready for lunch! *sigh*...
And my hands are tired of adding code to my HTML document... I'm getting soooo close to done, but it's soooo boring! But there's nothing else to do, at the moment... :(
Ah well... 2 hours till lunch... and then if I take a really long time at lunch, I'll only have 3 and a half hours more when I get back... that would be good... :)
I typed so much HTML yesterday, I'm surprised I didn't dream HTML...
Really, I wasn't doing all that much actual HTML coding... just adding formating codes to an already existing document... but it's sooooooo frickin' long! Makes me not even want to put any links or anything up today... :)
And really, I'm not surprised I didn't dream HTML... I haven't really remembered much of my dreams lately... not an entirely bad thing, I suppose, but sometimes I've been known to dream some fairly interesting stuff... I woke up the other morning with the sense that whatever dream I had just woke up from was sad, but I couldn't remember anything more than that... *sigh*... it was still odd, though, because of the lingering feeling of sadness. But it soon passed, as I hurried around getting ready for work and such.
The game slate is mostly up in the air right now. Southern Lights is on hold for a bit, till the Old Man gets some ideas. Angels Laugh is still on the back burner, though I continue to collect information for it. I'm working on my background for the fall Sabbat LARP here in C-dale, though that game won't start for about another 2-3 weeks. So the Forgotten is pretty much all I've got at the moment... and that's not necessarily a bad thing, as there is SOOOOO much going on in that game, and I'm right in the middle of a big chunk of it... self-inflicted, of course! :)
Side note for Rafe, who left me a comment: you can't be bound to ALL of the Giovanni in the region. Cuz you can only be fully bound to one person at a time...
For those who wanted to know, Alan Cumming is playing Nightcrawler. This has been a public service announcement from the ScaryWhiteGirl. :)
Nope, the above line has no real point. All ya gotta do to find out stuff like that is go to imdb and look up X-Men... :) But I had free time, so I thought I'd take care of it... :)
Though I do have to say, w00t! :) I like Alan Cumming... :) And despite the fact that I still know very little about the X-Men, I'll go see the 2nd movie, just like I saw the first one! :)
I suppose that's about all... campus is still swarming with people... hopefully getting less confused and lost... :) And figuring out that there are not nearly enough parking spots for as many parking stickers as they sell each year... :)
Though there isn't much going on at the moment. Classes started today, so campus is swarming with a bunch of relatively lost looking students. That's always fun! :) And the weather turned really nasty in the span of about 5 minutes. So now there will be lost looking WET students!
The Forgotten on Saturday was interesting, but I don't want to go into detail about it here. It would be yet another REALLY long post, and probably not terribly entertaining to most of my readers... :) But, the Malkavian contingent did get caught sneaking out of Elysium, AGAIN... :) You would think they'd just start letting us come and go as we pleased... :)
And, though he doesn't read this, happy birthday, Dad! :)
Not much to blog about today... we're not playing Southern Lights until school starts back up (on Monday), and then the game is moving to an (as of yet) undisclosed night... silly scheduling difficulties! :)
Would be nice to get that sorted out, because I'm still thinking about running Angels Laugh... might not get started on that till later in the semester though, as I still have a lot of preparing to do... LOTS of preparing... :)
And to all my loyal readers, I'm gonna be MIA for the next few days... got a couple days off work, and won't be around my computer during that time... so the usual Friday stuff won't be up... sorry! :)
But I just wanted to let everyone know, so that you all don't think I've fallen off the face of the planet or some such nonsense... :)
Okay, so what happened at the Forgotten to make me all happy and such? Well, we did good work... go us! :)
So at the last Elysium, when we were planning the Sabbat raid, Dr. Webster (Gabe) and Dani (me) came up with the plan of just throwing a couple of Molotov cocktails into the Sabbat's haven, and letting it burn. If we killed the Sabbat that way, sweet, if not, well, at least we took out one of their havens! :) But we didn't get to do that, and as things went, there were no Sabbat to kill when we finally raided the place.
So we decided that if there was going to be another raid on the Sabbat this week, we were gonna preempt it with some Molotov throwing... :) So when D finally got to Elysium, I went to ask him where we knew that the Sabbat lived, and got him to give me an address... so off we go to buy some Everclear (okay, IMPROVIZED Molotovs), and throw them at the Sabbat haven... I suppose we really only slightly singed the lawn, but it was still a good time... :)
So then we get back to Elysium, and catch up with Magdalena (Seth), and decide to go look for the Sabbat at a local bar... we decide to take Rudolph (Rafe) with us, cuz he seems dumb enough to go along with it... (hehehehe...) So we find a Vampire we don't know, but we also find a woman that is REALLY eyeballing him... and, as we come to find out with Telepathy, has bad intentions for him... so she lures him outside, and we all follow in Magdalena's Obfuscate. She ends up TOTALLY tooling him! :) So we surround her, and I drop out of Obfuscate with a gun to the back of her head, and tell her "Don't move." Well, she doesn't listen, breaks my arm, makes me shoot Dr. Webster, and manages to get a few feet away from us... when she suddenly stops, and asks if we want to work things out and not kill her.
So we take her, and the guy she had tooled (okay, torpored, at least), and go sit in Dr. Webster's Jetta in the parking lot of Wal-Mart. She explains to us that she's a genetically engineered ghoul with no domitor... but she's willing to help us.
This is the point when Seth and I kinda look at each other, and realize that we both recognize where this plot is coming from... this is the plot that BEGAN the entire game of the Forgotten... TWO years ago... a plot which was left unresolved when the third Prince (Andrei) was destroyed... and which we are just now wrapping up... go us! :)
Anyways, we take her and the guy she tooled back to Rudolph's medical office, get him strapped down (as well as staked... we ain't taking ANY chances!), and get ready to interrogate him... but then Magdalena gets a call that the Sheriff wants the Malkavians back at Elysium NOW... I was all thinking we were in deep trouble... :) But no, they just wanted Magdalena to go Astral and check out the location of the first Elysium, where the Sabbat had burned a crop circle on the roof... (don't ask... I'm not sure what happened here... I think I was briefly OOC at this point...)... so anyways, she gets done with that, and she, Dr. Webster, and I are all sitting in a side room... trying to decide what to do next. We hit upon going back to Rudolph's office and interrogating the guy (who I've got a Telepathy connection with, just in case he managed to get out of the restraints we put him in). But we decide that we don't want to go through Elysium, because either someone will want to come with us, or they'll tell us that we can't leave. So we decide to break out of Elysium... ;)
Dani disconnects the security on the window (hey, that's what Ravnos are good for!), and we start climbing out. Dr. Webster is out, Dani is mostly out, and we turn around to find Peaches standing right outside the window. She wants to know what we're doing.
"Going to a house party?" we suggest. "Okay, we're really gonna go finish what we were working on before. That we can't really tell you about yet."
"Okay," she says, "just don't let the hunters get you."
We laugh. "Oh, we've got that under control."
She looks a bit surprised. "Okay, then don't let the Sabbat find you."
We laugh again. "Nope, that shouldn't be a problem either."
She looks more surprised. "Well then, can you at least leave Elysium through the front door?"
"Okay, sure." We had, after all, realized that we were gonna need Rudolph to come with us, to let us into his office. So we retrieve him and start to leave. Then he informs us that the Giovanni had a wraith following him. So, clearly, we don't want to go back to his office. But, I've got a Telepathy connection with the guy we need to interrogate... so we decide to actually go to a house party, and that I can interrogate him, via Telepathy, from the party... :)
We get to the party, Magdalena and I manage to get in without paying ("because we're cute!"), and find ourselves a room to work out of. So I start digging through the guy's brain, find out that yup, he is Sabbat... along with all kinds of other juicy information... and then the Giovanni shows up. Bastard. Dominates me to tell him what I learned, which I proceed to do, until Dr. Webster jumps in front of me and Dominates me to stop. At which point, I close my eyes, cover them with my hands, and refuse to uncover them, or open them, all the way back to Elysium, and until we get in a side room with Peaches. I then have to use Telepathy to tell her, Dr. Webster, Rudolph, and Magdalena what I learned (cuz the wraith is still with us, and I've got a SERIOUS problem with the Giovanni knowing this information). And that was pretty much it for the night, because I was almost completely drained at that point... lots of hard work!
I think that's about it... we were all pleased with ourselves at wrap-up, when the first two news stories were our doing... go us! :)
I'll post an update about The Forgotten later on... suffice it to say, though, it ROCKED... I'm now unofficially known as Dani Three-Clans... though I'm probably slipping more towards the Malkavian end of things... :)
More Rules to Live By:
1. No dying.
2. No getting maimed.
3. No being subjected to torture.
4. No bursting.
5. No exploding. (yes, they are different... cuz I said so...)
6. No activities which may cause grievous bodily harm.
I think I'm gonna put up a library page in a bit here... books I've read recently, books I'm reading now, and books I've got on the "waiting list" to be read when I get to them... :) Yeah, definitely a good idea... :)
1. Do you have a car? If so, what kind of car is it? A '97 Saturn SL2. It's all cute and green.
2. Do you drive very often? Not as much as I used to, when I was going to E-ville every weekend.
3. What's your dream car? Hmmm... I've always kinda wanted a Madza Miata, cuz they're all cute and bubble shaped... I've also been a big fan of Saab 900s for quite a while... I wouldn't mind having a Bug (Volkswagon) either... hell, I'm not all that picky, really! :)
4. Have you ever received a ticket? Yup, last summer... on the way to E-ville, with Megan in the car...
5. Have you ever been in an accident? Yup, a couple. One was when I was driving--my friend Michelle and I were going to Taco Bell (rather than going to church!), and I turned because I didn't think any cars were coming. And my station wagon got hit. Then there was the time my brother was driving my station wagon and rear-ended a van, and the time when the right rear tire on my mom's Bug blew out on the highway. I think that's all... :)

End of the Work Week Wisdom:
"Those who dream by day are cognizant of many things which escape those who dream only by night." --Edgar Allen Poe
Forgot to mention yesterday that we were playing Southern Lights last night... which is probably just as well, cuz I don't have much to report from that game. The Old Man had been on vacation, and hadn't planned much for the game, so we mostly just chatted about things like rules. There was a little bit of IC time though, and it looks like the Circle is going to be okay, without my intervention... :) You don't know how tempted I was to try to get Dark Sun and Dagian to "shake" on the agreement they made to work together... me being Eclipse Caste, they would be stuck with their agreement FOREVER, if they had let me seal the deal with my Anima power... ;)
Other than that, just the usual daily grind at work... my desk is finally beginning to be cleared off, which is a nice change... :)
Finally added the story that gwarocks sent me MONTHS ago added to the site. It's called Worst-Case Scenario, and it's about his Garou character from Fury. Good stuff, as always! :)
Which reminds me, that I'm working on absolutely NONE of my stories at the moment. I've got a background in the works for the fall Sabbat game in C-dale, but it's only in my head at the moment. Still trying to iron out some potential kinks in the story before I write it down.
Okay... here's the funny thing that I found while cleaning on Monday night. Now, it should be noted: this was originally "Instructions for Life from the Dali Lama"... but Adam and I were EXCEEDINGLY bored one night, so we altered it for our own purposes. The ScaryWhiteGirl is proud to bring you the results of that boredom.
Instructions for Life from the Monkey Llama:
1. Take into account that great love and great achievements involve great monkeys.
2. When you lose, don't lose the monkey.
3. Follow the three Rs: Respect for self, Respect for others, and Responsibility for all your monkeys.
4. Remember that not getting what you want is sometimes a wonderful stroke of monkey.
5. Learn the rules so you know how to break the monkey.
6. Don't let a little monkey injure a great friendship.
7. When you realize you've made a mistake, take baby monkey steps to correct it.
8. Spend some time alone with your monkey every day.
9. Open your arms to change, but don't let go of your monkey.
10. Remember that monkey is sometimes the best answer.
11. Live a good, honorable life. Then when you get older and think back you'll be able to monkey it a second time.
12. A loving monkey in your home is the foundation for your life.
13. In disagreements with loved ones, deal only with the current situation. Don't bring up the monkey.
14. Share your monkey. It's a way to achieve immortality.
15. Be gentle with the monkey.
16. Once again, monkey someplace you've never been before.
17. Remember that the best relationship is one in which your love for each other exceeds your need for each other. (The only unaltered part of the list!)
18. Judge your monkey by what you had to give up in order to get it.
19. Approach love and monkeys with reckless abandon.
You are a geek liaison, which means you go both ways. You can hang out with normal people or you can hang out with geeks which means you often have geeks as friends and/or have a job where you have to mediate between geeks and normal people. This is an important role and one of which you should be proud. In fact, you can make a good deal of money as a translator.
Normal: Tell our geek we need him to work this weekend.
You [to Geek]: We need more than that, Scotty. You'll have to stay until you can squeeze more outta them engines!
Geek [to You]: I'm givin' her all she's got, Captain, but we need more dilithium crystals!
You [to Normal]: He wants to know if he gets overtime.
So I have my whole "lack of caffeine" thing still going on... most of the time... :) I found out on Friday that Sunkist orange soda has caffeine in it. Not a whole lot, but I was still surprised about that fact... particularly since I had gotten Sunkist cuz I thought it _didn't_ contain caffeine! And it also doesn't help matters any that I am still eating chocolate from time to time. Not a whole lot, mind you. But seeing as the only kind of Blizzard I will get at DQ is chocolate-covered cherry... and all of my favorite other ice creams are something with chocolate in them... that's a little bit here and there...
Overall though, I'm doing pretty well with it. I'm drinking lots more water than I used to, even if it's not 8 glasses a day. That's a TON of water, when it comes down to it! It's good that I don't really even want soda most days... but there's those 4 cans of Vanilla Coke sitting in my fridge that keep calling out to me... so far I've resisted the urge, but it's not easy to do...
Found a REALLY funny list yesterday, but I left it at home, so I can't post it today... hopefully I'll get it up here tomorrow... oh, you will all be amused... yes... very amused... :)
Right, so Assie and Mander did this 100 things about them... mine is gonna pretty much follow the pattern that they've started... :) So, without further ado...
100 things about the ScaryWhiteGirl (a.k.a. Dawn):
1. I am an Aries.
2. I am the oldest of four children.
3. My birthday is exactly three months after Christmas.
4. I love LOVE LOVE cats, though I've never had one as a pet.
5. I don't like big dogs, cuz they have a tendency to like to jump on me.
6. When I was a kid, I LOVED reading biographies of historical people (the type that were written for kids).
7. I will read just about anything that can be even partially construed as a vampire-related novel.
8. I hate HATE HATE Harry Potter!
9. I like to say that I procrastinate a lot, but it's really not true...
10. I've seen a lot of musicals, but I can't really say that I liked most of them. :)

Went to the Forgotten on Saturday, for the first time in about a month and a half. It was odd that I was, for the beginning of the night, one of the longest running characters there. Just about everyone who walked into Elysium got a "who are you?" and "do the important people know about you?" from me... seeing as I was at least claiming to be the one in charge, at least until other court members showed up. I can't wait till school starts back up, though, and we have the full player base again. I think there were only about a dozen players there on Saturday! Oh, and it will be nice to be able to play inside again... I hate having to melt while roleplaying!

2. Of those countries, which would you most like to visit? I definitely want to go to Germany!
3. Which would you least like to visit? Why? Not really NOT wanting to go to any of the countries my ancestors might be from! I just wanna go to Europe and see it all! :)
4. Do you do anything during the year to celebrate or recognize your heritage? Nope.
5. Who were the first ancestors to move to your present country (parents, grandparents, etc)? Great-great-great grandparents on my dad's side, and about the same on my mom's.

End of the Work Week Wisdom:
"And the truth is we don't know anything..." --Ana Ng by They Might Be Giants
I can only hear partially out of my left ear at the moment. My right ear is much better. The concert was frickin' AWESOME! :) I didn't get stepped on, didn't get smushed, or anything like that... :) They played a lot of songs from "No!" which is their new kids music album, and a lot of other stuff that I didn't know... I felt soooooo out of the loop! But they played enough songs that I did know... :)
Got "I Got Lost" and "No!" and a T-shirt at the concert, and picked up the newest Apoptygma Berzerk at Vintage Vinyl before the show... so all in all, a really good night! :)
Well, it's the last day of the real vacation. Just got the weekend, and then back to work on Monday. *sigh*... there's gonna be a lot of stuff to do when I get back to work...
Day 4 of the ScaryWhiteGirl's vacation has begun. Early today, cuz I've got stuff to do before we drive up to get Macke, and head up to St. Louis to go see They Might Be Giants. w00t! :)
Because I have time, let's review the times I have seen They Might Be Giants.
The first time was in the fall of 1992, near the beginning of my freshman year of college, at Mississippi Nights. I went with Nate and Chris, but we were meeting a bunch of BBS folks there. Within five minutes of arriving, Tom (Katar) had proposed to me... that was bizarre... :) I think that was the time we got them to play the theme song from "Sesame Street" for "Stump the Band"...
The second time was Pointfest 1, which I think was in the early fall of 1993. Because TMBG is what Pointfest is really all about! :) But you know, getting Midnight Oil's autographs was a bonus as well! :)
The third time was Pointfest 2, which would have been the summer of 1994. This was the time that I drove like 6 other people to Pointfest... two of whom lived in South County... and they went to see the Violent Femmes, who were headlining that year. So while most of my passengers and I sat in the van, they were still watching the Femmes play. So it took FOREVER till we got out of there! But TMBG was still kewl! :)
The fourth time was in Kirksville, in March of 1995. My mom, brother, and sister (Megan) all came up for this one. It rocked! :) We wanted them to play "Crimson and Clover" if they did "Stump the Band," but they didn't. Bummer. This was also where Megan and I got our fear of people who sing about fresh garbage and play banjo... *shudder*...
The fifth time was a day or so before Pointfest 4, in August of 1995. I think this is the time I wore sandals to a TMBG show... at Mississippi Nights... bad idea! :) Jim and Carrie went with me this time, and it was a good time, even if I couldn't be in the quasi-mosh pit... :)
The sixth time was Pointfest 4, in August of 1995. The last one that TMBG played at... *sniffle*... this was the year of the water bottle fight (I was in the seats, and one nearly hit me). This was also the year that I wandered around Pointfest with my nearly waist length hair (which had just been dyed red) all in tiny braids, and had written all over myself with permanent marker... :) That was fun... :)
And now I get to see them tonight... after nearly 7 years... it's been WAY too long...
