Random ramblings cuz I have nothing better to do... or something... :)
This is the site formerly known as Anneke's Haven. Within, you will find information about my previous White Wolf chronicles, and other random gaming related stuff. I also have a blog here, where I talk about pretty much everything and anything, though it's primarily about my exciting life... the definition of exciting definitely being up for debate.
Enjoy your visit, and come back soon!
1. Who has authority over you? Ummm... pretty much just my boss... that's about it...
2. Where do you go to get a feeling of community? LARP, of course! We're just one big happy EXTREMELY disfunctional family... :)
3. What do you do, or have you done, in your life that "goes against the tide?" Plenty...
4. Guilt can be a powerful weapon. Those who have mastered its power can very good at getting what they want. Have you ever used guilt to get you what you want? Have you ever had it used on you? How did you react? Yes. Not really.
5. I was walking through the mall Friday night and saw a lot of teenagers who dressed really wild and just acted like idiots - not caring who was looking or what others thought. And I remember being that way, having that kind of freedom. I must have looked like a fool then too. Did you ever do anything in public with your friends as a teenager that you would never do today? Tell me about that. I used to be one of those kids who went to the mall and acted fairly obnoxiously... but that seems like forever ago. But I still don't really care a whole lot about what people are thinking... obviously... :) I LARP, after all... :) Though there have been times when I have seen someone I know from school or work-related stuff at the Student Center while I'm there for game, and have been known to keep my jacket on if I'm wearing something really out there... :)
6. I don't watch the television show "Survivor," but I did notice they allow each contestant to bring one "luxury item" to the deserted island with them (make-up, a book, etc.). If you were to go to an island for three months, what five "luxury items" would you bring and why? I assume there's not electrical outlets on a deserted island? In which case scrap the idea of bringing my laptop and CDs, cuz the battery would be dead in 4 hours or less... so we'll go with: 1) The Stand, by Stephen King (I could never get sick of that book); 2) Vampire: the Masquerade 3rd ed. book (so I can finally learn ALL of the rules by heart); 3) Neverwhere, by Neil Gaiman (such a good book); 4) an empty notebook and pen; 5) my reading glasses. Yeah, I know I only chose book related stuff. Well, I'm a geek, and I like to read. Besides which, I don't watch "Survivor" either, and I dunno what kind of luxury items people bring.
7. If you would have had a choice, in which time period would you have like to have lived? Why? Victorian, all the way... close enough to modern to not be terrible, and soooooo nifty. Which reminds me, I got a book to go buy this week... w00t! :)
BONUS: Where do you dare me to draw the line? On the sidewalk... :p
Gonna try to write an entry here while I'm doing some other stuff... we shall see how that goes... :)
Friday game was alright... Jubilee actually went into combat, and actually did something somewhat useful... it sucks being a non-physical character in a combat situation, but she's good as a "spotter" (finding Obfuscated people), and she can use Dementation to at least mess with one target each turn... if I do okay with chops at least... :) And I almost had another diab, but then I decided to give it to someone else, cuz it was a Samedi, and I really didn't want to risk getting all ugly... especially when I'm miles from Mask of 1000 Faces! In other news, we realized that we sorta volunteered to be in charge of Palla Grande... which means we need to get to working on that... *sigh*... not gonna be easy, that's for sure!
Saturday, I went out and got the Sims: Unleashed... it came out Wednesday, so I was doing really good to wait until Saturday to buy it! :) Just a note, if you're thinking about installing it, but blanch at the thought of needing 1.3 GIG free... you don't. I deleted a whole bunch of stuff from my hard drive to free up the space I needed, and it ended up taking more like half a gig instead... *sigh*... not that I needed most of the stuff I deleted, but I did manage to lose all of my Garou stuff in the process... TT and LARP, I'm pretty sure... :( Anyways, the game is fun, but I really wish I would have been able to get the hint book at the same time I got the game... I'm feeling a little bit lost about some of the stuff, and so it's a lot of trial and error at this point... just don't want to mess up too bad with the main family that I play!
Saturday game was awesome! Lotsa good roleplaying all night long! :) Thanks to some information I got in an in-week scene, Dr. Webster and I were able to arrange a strike team on a Sabbat location, and we actually took out at least 2 of them... one dead, and another one to be interrogated later! :) Then we had to take care of some Malkavian clan business, and at least that stupid Pattie is staked now... the Broken One isn't pleased with her, I think... And then we got to have a Malkavian clan meeting (I love being an honorary Malkavian!), where we started in on some shady shady business... :) No details here, cuz I don't want anybody finding out just how shady till it all shakes down... muhahahahah... >;)
And then yesterday was pretty much just taking care of stuff around the apartment... nothing of much excitement... played the Sims for a while, and noticed some buggy stuff in the game... missing graphics, the fact that people's clothes reverts back to what you started them when you come back into the game (after changing their clothes), etc.... there's probably a patch for that, or will be soon, but I dunno if I need it...
And the Monday Mission isn't up yet... hopefully I'll get to that later... :)
1. What are your favorite ways to relax and unwind? Listening to music, watching G-Force or Geist (plug-ins for WinAmp), playing mindless computer games (minesweeper is great for that!), or just doing nothing...
2. What do you do the moment you get home from work/school/errands? Drop my backpack and get my shoes off...
3. What are your favorite aromatherapeutic smells? Hmmm... I think honey almond is my favorite smell, though I don't know if it counts as aromatherapeutic... I also like vanilla... and pine... :)
4. Do you feel more relaxed with a group of friends or hanging out by yourself? Depends... if I'm relaxed to begin with, having people around can be fun... if I'm trying to relax, I'm probably better off not having a lot of people around...
5. What is something that you feel is relaxing but most people don't? Working on stuff for my Vampire games can actually be really relaxing, though most people would probably see that as work...

End of the Work Week Wisdom:
"We're humans, pretending to be Vampires, pretending to be humans..." --My new way of explaining roleplaying the Camarilla to people who don't understand... blatantly ripped off from Interview with a Vampire

Time to get back to work... I love looking for hyphens, no really, I do... *sigh*...
Hey, all! The ScaryWhiteGirl is about to drop off the face of the planet again... :( Work calls, to the tune of 2 new volumes worth of proof sheets about to land on my desk... wasn't figuring on them arriving until mid October, but we just got the call today that they're ready to be picked up.
Henceforth, ScaryWhiteGirl's free time = 0...
What this means to you? Probably not as many updates, and those that appear will be short... I'll at least keep up with the Friday Five and the End of the Work Week Wisdom, but some of the other features may depart temporarily... this should only last for about a month... hopefully...
You wanna know the weird thing about search engines, at least in my mind? The fact that if you give them a stack of words to find, they will find those words, though not necessarily in the order or phrase you looked for... with that in mind, here's the list of the past week of searches that found my site...
"fact on Sunkist"
"completely drunk girl"
"humpday hump"
"headgear girl" (I get a lot of variations on this one, usually involving "headgear," "braces," and some other word... so call this my catch-all for those type of searches...)
"victorian age vampire" - WOW! One that I actually used in that order and context! :)
"scary msn names"
"net girl friends"
"wodwose"
"lufcy" - who was searching for that?!?! :)
"scary girl pops out"
"food questionnares"
"looking wet" - ummmm... do I wanna know?
"larp geeks" - woo hoo! Someone knows what we are! :)
"chicken pox scar"
"goth creepy scary"
"twiggy buck-rogers" - I have NO clue how that one came up...
"rate nice girl"
"white girl"
"st louis goth homepage"
"west nile virus in collinsville" - yeah, that's my prime example of how two completely unrelated topics in my blog get lumped together... weird...
New additions to the gallery... now you can see dolls that look like my characters! :) I'll probably be making more of these, as this is one of the better doll makers I've found on the net... :) Not as good for guys, but great for girls! :)
Act IV Scene IV: *We are in line at Target trying not to impulse buy all of the cool little trinkets they put right there at the checkout counter. Bastards! They know I can't resist.* Quiet on the set!! Roll tape..... and....ACTION!!
Christy: I love word games. I am a crossword junkie and those search-a-word things are king! I also love word association. Like when I saw white I think of glue which then makes me think of how much I love office/school supplies. Always have. It's a quirk. What does "white" make you think of? Why? You: Snow, mostly... or paper maybe...
Christy: I love scents. Every once in a while I catch a scent that reminds me of my grandmothers or my mom or a special friend. It takes me back to a special place in my soul that warms me for a second. My mom smelled like Sand de Sable or Skin Musk perfume when I was young and I am always reminded of her when I smell those scents. What smell reminds you of your mom either now or how she smelled from your childhood? You: I dunno that there are any smells that remind me of my mom, though her perfume has a tendency to do so (especially when I hug her and get the smell on me)...
Christy: What are you going to do today? You: Work, eat lunch, work some more, go home, and then... not all sure what the plans for the evening are yet... the girls want me to go out tonight, but I dunno if I will want to or not... still deciding...
Christy: I like to think of myself as fun to be around, carefree to an extent, funny, pretty and kind. What do you like to see yourself as? What do you hope others see you as? You: I like to see myself as fun to be with, a good friend, and maybe a little smart... I hope others see me the same way! :)
Christy: Photography is so much fun to me. I have some new pictures up from when the kids and I went to our playground. Do you have a favorite photo? Do you have it with you? Can I see it? You: I think my very favorite photo is the one of Jamie, Mark Brimer, and I, sitting in Michelle's basement, taking some test (probably a purity test)... or the one from the same night of Michelle and I... but I also really like the pic of me as Jubilee that I posted to the left...
Christy: I saw the Banger Sisters last night. It was okay. I would have rather rented it. I suppose I was expecting it to be more eventful or close to the caliber of Thelma & Louise. I loved that movie. What movie that is out now would you like to see? You: Ummm... not watching much TV, I tend to not realize that new movies are coming out... if Red Dragon (I think that's what it's called) is out, then that... if not, I'm waiting for that one... :)
Christy: Kids are both home today since my daughter has a small fever along with a little cold. Do you like the new layout? You: Yup, very kewl! :)
I am the Associate Marquise of Cheap Canadian Beers!
And the kewl thing is, it changes every time you do it... I'm also the Duchess of Encyclopedias, and the Viscountess of Yggdrasil... here's the page where I found it... :)
And let's try Scary White Girl, as though it were my given name... :)
Footsoldier of Things That Go "Bump" in the Night, Scary White Girl Contessa of Ricardo Montalban, Seņora Scary White Girl
And the best one...
Empress of Death, Scary White Girl
So long, and thanks for all the fish.
(Yes, that last part showed up on the page where I made my name... spiffy!)
1. What sport did you love to play when you were a kid -- and were you any good? I HATED sports when I was a kid. Mainly because I was no good at them. My parents made me play softball and soccer for a number of years, but I always was given positions where my presence really didn't matter--outfield for softball, and way in the back by the goal in soccer. I played tennis for a couple of years in high school, but I wasn't much good at that either... always played third doubles, which mean that we were the doubles team at the VERY bottom of the roster...
2. What about now? Do you still play that sport or any others? Hell no... sports suck, and I avoid them at all costs. :)
Okay, so it's not very positive, but at least I've answered the questions honestly... :)
Not much of excitement going on at the moment... I'm feeling better today, though not 100%... Megan is in to work this morning, and it's nice not having to train her... cuz she's doing the same job she did when she worked here last summer... the Forgotten message board has been absolutely NUTS, lots of messages to keep up on... *sigh*... but it's fun! :) And I have to work on my subplot stuff for that game... I like being a narrator sometimes... :)
1. When I was young, my Mom would always drink a cold Dr. Pepper in the morning. Me, I can go either way. I like a Cold Frappucchino in the Summer months and switch to warm Mocha Espresso in the Fall. Do you like to drink warm beverages in the morning or do you prefer yours cold? I tend to go with cold, as I'm usually drinking juice or milk... though tea is kinda nice, especially when it's cooler out.
2. Have you ever been so upset with someone that you wanted to get revenge? What did you do? Or if you didn't, what would you like to have done? Ummm... no, don't think so...
3. Sometimes I can look back at my past and see so many things that I was too naive to take advantage of. A time where I could have moved ahead in my career if only I'd chosen to move, the High School girlfriend who said she would do anything if I just asked, and so on. Looking back, are there any opportunities you missed out on that you can see now but didn't realize then? Not really... I think I'm more in the camp of happening to fall into good circumstances because of decisions that I have made...
4. Today I tried on my black slacks, and they are just a skosh too tight (yeah it's a real word, look it up). Of course, I wore them anyway. Are there any clothes you refuse to throw away even though they don't (and never will) fit? Why do you keep them? I don't really have a problem with stuff not fitting me, but there are some things that don't fit quite like I want them to... like my brownish-reddish crushed velvet shirt with the lacing in the back, or the cute little black corset-y looking thing I got this summer... but I'll wear them on occasion (for game, of course)...
5. Although my speech classes eliminated most if it, I still have a little Okie accent left. I say "Git" instead of "Get" and "Collar" instead of "Color." Do you have an accent? Are there any phrases or words you say that tip folks that "you aren't from around these parts?" I don't think that I have an accent, though I have noticed that since I've lived in southern Illinois (4 years now), I've picked up a tiny bit of a southern-ish accent, some of the time. When I still lived in St. Louis, I was very much NOT one of the people with the stereotypical St. Louis accent ("warsh" instead of "wash," and "farty-far" instead of "fourty-four," to name a couple). But, at the same time, I must have had a slight accent. When Olivier, a French exchange student, lived with my aunt one summer, he spent a lot of time with my brother and I, as we were closer to his age than my cousin David was. His English was very good, but occasionally he would forget the word he wanted to say... so he would tell me the word in French, and I would tell him what it was in English. This happened once, and when he repeated the word, I told him, "no, you're saying it wrong," and repeated it. He said it again, exactly as he had said it before, and said "that's how you said it"... which REALLY made it seem like I had a funny accent... but he was French... so we'll blame it on that... :)
6. Speaking of phrases, it really drives me nuts when folks say "very unique" (Unique has no degrees, it is either unique or it isn't) or "irregardless" (not a real word). Are there any words folks misspell or incorrect uses of words that simply drive you insane? ATM machine (hello, what do you think the M stands for) is one phrase that always gets me. As for misspellings, I tend to notice them all, and get aggravated about them all... but that's cuz I'm an editor... :)
7. I am guilty of using pet names a bit too often, like "honey," "babe," and "sweetie." However, currently, no one uses any pet names on me (and I think I'd like one). Are there any pet names that you like to be called? Any you don't? Do you (or did you) have any pet names for your partner? I HATE it when people call me "Dawnie" or "Dawnie-poo"... except for Megan and Aaron, who only call me that... :)
BONUS: Why you so fly? Ummm... cuz I have cute little wings... see them? They're all glittery and gauzy and such...
Ugh... crazy weather changing is making me all sniffly and feeling generally blah... but I hauled myself out of bed this morning so that I could come to work, and get some stuff done that NEEDS to be done by the end of the week, and also because Megan is coming by today to finish getting signed on as my fourth (yeah, FOURTH) student worker... at least she specifically wants to work on the one project that I can't get anyone else to do! :) It's kinda nice having all these student workers, but I miss Lorri... she was a ton of fun, and understood the whole Sandman thing... :)
Anyways, let's see here... time for the usual game update... :)
Friday - American Frontier went well... I thoroughly frightened everyone with my costume... which was salvaged out of Megan's bag of stuff to go to Goodwill... :) Little pink and white striped T-shirt with frilly edges on the sleeves, and a pink jumper with flowers embroidered on it... with black tights and my Mary-Janes... :) It's sooooo not like what I would normally wear, and the fact that it was in a child's size made it small even on me...
We had the usual slate of ductus meetings and such, which was some of the fun of the evening... cuz when they call ductus meetings, Jubilee is supposed to go, but Jack (Gabe) isn't... and since Jubilee has an obsession with Jack, it makes it really hard for her to be in these meetings... luckily the rest of the city has caught on to this, and they usually try to set it up that I can still have Jack in my line of vision while at a meeting. Well, that worked out until one of the Lasombra who was to be punished showed up, and Jack had to help put him down... I glance over to where he had been sitting, and my free Social for that turn was "Jack moved!"... so after the combat was over, I went and got him, and made him sit in for the rest of the ductus meeting... which no one seemed to mind... :)
We also got to go kill some Cammies, which was a good time... the Prince of Gulf Shores made a handful of us (Jubilee, Constance, and Oscar) leave through his nifty combo discipline, and the rest who went up to meet with him tooled him... but, once again, Jubilee and Jack were separated... so this time, Jubilee contented herself by carving pretty designs in her arm with an icepick... :) Anyways, we got outta there, and through me agreeing to owe Simon (the Giovanni) a favor, I got to have a tasty tasty treat... I diablerized the Tremere Primogen of Gulf Shores... it's a shame that you can't pick up Thaumaturgy through diablerie in that game... :( Instead, I got a level of Dominate, a level of Fortitude, and the merit "Oracular Ability"... too bad that Fortitude is gonna make it that my Masochism derangement is going to go unfulfilled... which means Jubilee is going to be a very unhappy camper...
Oh, and I got to play a zombie in that outfit too, for my "film debut"... okay, so it's only gonna be on the campus TV station, but it's still kewl! :)
Saturday - The Forgotten was way weird for me... Gabe is trying out some new stuff with Dr. Webster, so he spent most of the night not acting like the person that Dani hangs out with all of the time... but because of the Telepathy link that we always have going, I got a message across the Madness Network, saying that if Dr. Webster wasn't at the Asylum in an hour, someone (we figured the Broken One) would start killing a patient a minute. So I make Dr. Webster come with me (he didn't want to, cuz he didn't think he was Dr. Webster), and we rush down there... only to run into a room where Peppermint Pattie starts hacking into him (and then me) with a fireman's axe... so we both get torpored... she puts me in a cell, and puts him in a box... luckily, one of the other Malkavian NPCs showed up and got us both awake and out of there... much to Pattie's chagrin...
So it's back to the quasi-Elysium, where we have to take Magdalena out feeding... went well enough, till she killed her second victim, and frenzied on us... Dr. Webster then decided to Mask himself as a really cute girl, and the three of us goofed around for a while, telling everyone that we were all lesbians, and that we were all married to each other, and that we had declared Praxis on Vermont (which was a couch we had all been sitting on when we decided we were all married)... there's a much longer story to that, but it's too much to explain here... :)
Oh, also on Saturday, I finally got to see Amelie, which is easily the cutest movie I have seen in ages... I loved it! :)
Sunday - Yeah, I know, there's not usually game on Sunday... but we watched Ninth Gate in the afternoon, ate dinner, and then I sorta started running "Angels Laugh"... only for one player, though... I was really tired, so it didn't go as well as I could have hoped for, but I'm still having fun with it! :)
Okay, this sounds like fun... here's a list of things that people have searched for to find my site...
"couches that are good with allergies" - is this like things that taste good together? :)
"11 year old girl cute" - ummm... do I wanna know what they were looking for?
"larp blog" - wow, one that they would actually find here! I'm amazed! :)
"The Brock Pretty Cool Homepage" - I have no idea what this actually is, but it's kinda odd... I'm not sure when I said anything about someone named Brock... odd...
"braces headgear girl" - yeah, I suppose I have talked about my braces and headgear on here...
"goth girl net" - woo hoo... my non-gothiness brought people here... :)
More of these later... they always crack me up... :)
And on a side note, my throat is scratchy... poo... :(
No big plans for Jack and Jubilee tonight... at least none that I know of at the moment... who knows, though, I may come up with something fun between now and then... :) At the moment, though, I'm just being pleased with the kewl idea I had for my outfit tonight... far too cute for any Sabbat member to wear... and that's why it's so creepy... :)
As for Dani, tomorrow night, don't have any major plans there either... yes, we've got our weekly weirdness planned, and will probably have more by the time we get to game... this week has gone so quickly that I haven't really put a lot of thought into either game... *sigh*... but, at the same time, I'm always glad when the week goes quickly! :)
1. Would you say that you're good at keeping in touch with people? Well, I definitely try to keep in touch with people... unfortunately, the two-way nature of communication often makes that difficult, as people I write to don't always write me back...
2. Which communication method do you usually prefer/use: e-mail, telephone, snail mail, blog comments, or meeting in person? Why? I prefer getting to see people in person... but that hasn't been possible with a lot of my friends, as they live a couple of hours away... so I'm usually left with using E-mail or phone, though blog comments have worked well with some people... :) I hate sending snail mail, but I love receiving it... my handwriting is atrocious, so it's probably best that I not inflict it on my friends... :)
3. Do you have an instant messenger program? How many? Why/why not? How often do you use it? Have and use are two very different things! I have screen names on AIM, Yahoo, MSN, and ICQ... but I never use any of them, any more... can't exactly use them from work, most of the time...
4. Do most of your close friends live nearby or far away? I have a few very good friends here in town, but most of my friends live about 2 hours away, in E-ville... and I miss them!
5. Are you an "out of sight, out of mind" person, or do you believe that "distance makes the heart grow fonder"? Definitely the second...
::..::
End of the Work Week Wisdom...
"Hooray for low-grade quality food!!!" --Assie, talking about LJS...
For those who are interested in the whole caffeine thing, this and this may interest you... pretty frightening, if you ask me!
So glad I'm done with caffeine... I may even be doing well enough that I'm not gonna drink soda even once a week now! Still got my chocolate, though... *sigh*...
This week is going by amazingly quickly, and I'm very glad for that fact... some weeks lately have really been dragging, for no apparent reason. It's nice to have a fast week, as it gets me to the weekend faster... :)
And none of the questionare type things for today look good, so we'll leave this as a short entry for the moment. If you have something that you would like for me to discuss today, please leave a comment... :)
Act IV Scene III: *We are in the car headed to the bookstore for a poetry reading which will include some of your writings! Woohoo!* Quiet on the set!! Roll tape..... and....ACTION!!
Christy: Man! Freaky! Did you hear that New York's lottery drawing pops up with 9-1-1 on 9-11 attacks anniversary? That was just too dang weird. Do you think the lottery is rigged? You: Ummm... yeah, that was pretty weird... dunno if it's rigged or not, but certainly very weird...
Christy: A friend and I say the same things at the same time more often than not. We are on the exact same wavelength it seems. Do you have a friend like that? You: Well, not necessarily say the same thing at the same time, but...
Christy: I believe in ESP. That a person can just sort of know in their head what the other person is going to say without maybe being conscious of it. Do you? You: Yes, definitely. Cuz I will know what some people are going to say before they open their mouths. And I have been known to know what my mom and TheSteve are thinking... to the point where TheSteve used to have to yell at me to stop figuring out the plots that he was thinking about for game... :)
Christy: More often than not I know who is on the other end of the phone before answering it when it rings. Have you had any freaky extrasensorysorta things happen to you? You: Occasionally I can tell when the phone is going to ring before it does, and I usually know who it will be if that is the case... but more often, it's that my phone will ring, and I'll know who is calling before I get to the phone... though that could be just having predictable people call me... :)
Christy: I would love the power to become invisible whenever I wanted to. Wouldn't you? No? What "superpower" would you like to have? You: I've always wanted telekinesis, though being invisible could be kewl as well... :)
Christy: My favorite superhero when I was little was Wonder Woman. My mom helped me make a headband and bullet repelling wristbands out of tinfoil. I was cool, lemme tell ya. Who was yours? I also loved Twiggy on Buck Rogers "beeedeebeedee beep" You: Ummm... does She-Ra count? :) Other than that, I kinda liked Wonder Woman, I suppose...
Christy: Oops! Gotta bolt! I have to head to the kids' doctor to get immunization forms for their school! See ya later! BTW, what could I do to make the site better or is there anything wrong about it that you can see? I always love your advice. You: Nope, looks good to me! :)
CUT!!
Kay, that was fun... I like the way it's more like a conversation (or an interview, I suppose) than questions... :)
Why does it seem like I did virtually nothing after work yesterday? That's so weird... cuz I know that I did stuff, but now it seems like I must have slept for part of the evening or something... weird...
It's Wednesday already... sweet... let's see if there are any good questionnares out there today... kay, none of the ones that are supposed to be up are there... guess that means this is going to be a short entry, since I don't have anything good to talk about... :)
Oh, except to inform certain people that their duct tape privileges have been revoked... ;p
There is something inherently wrong with the fact that I'm running a space heater in my office today... but it's sooooo cold in here, and rather cool and rainy outside... I'm really gonna hate it when I have to turn it off and leave my office... not that I want to stay at work, but I'm gonna freeze when I get out of here!
Halloween is in six weeks... Johnnie Brock's isn't open in the mall yet, or at least it wasn't last Wednesday... gonna have to check on that this week, too, I think... I wanna know when I can start putting up my Halloween decorations, and I wanna figure out what to be for Halloween this year... not that I'm gonna go trick or treating or anything, and there will be games on the Friday and Saturday after Halloween (so no big Halloween parties, most likely)... but I will definitely need a costume for Jubilee to wear for Palla Grande in the Sabbat game, and maybe I can talk some of the people in the Saturday game into having a Halloween party in game as well... :) Or I could just have Dani go in costume, cuz she'd do something silly like that... :)
It's odd only having LARPs at the moment... no TT games to speak of... I'm still pondering the possibility of running "Angels Laugh," but there would be a lot of changes to the original plans... that's still just in the thinking stages at the moment, of course... nothing set in stone yet... hell, my NPCs aren't even done yet, though they're getting there! :)
I feel like I need to be running something, though, because it helps me get good ideas... and then I might write some more... and my game ideas and writing always feed off of each other... without one, though, the other suffers a lot. *sigh*... I just can't win... :)
Virtues: You look for immense creativity and individuality in people, including yourself. You're not happy with anything less than brilliant, and you focus on being expressive. You value energy, liveliness, and upbeat personalities, but you're not supportive of moodiness when you yourself can be unreliably moody. Seeking activity, you like the bustle of business but need the secluded atmosphere of a studio or private corner.
Aspirations: You feel the need to express your talents, whether it be through writing, drawing, singing, dancing, composing, performing, or photographing. While you strive to ever improve your work, you want to display it as soon as possible when your impatience kicks in. You want to be a prodigy but you might not have the means right at your fingertips. Trust me, do NOT move to New York to do it. Yeesh!
Quirks: Conformists bother you because of their lack of individuality. You're often late or unreliable. You're showy and refuse to share the spotlight. You only tell little white lies. You worm your way into the hearts of others, but be careful; some people despise the show-offs.
Factors: Surround yourself with activity and you'll always have material to work with. Involve friends and family in your projects so they don't feel like envious outsiders.
Future: Show business or not, you'll settle down happily if you're among those who appreciate your natural talents and desire to perform. Don't stay in one place too long, and don't be too hasty in defining your relationships. Who are you to judge what only time will tell?
Well, it's not 100% accurate, but I suppose I can see a lot of that...
1. When you're feeling down, what activity is almost guaranteed to make you feel better? Listening to music REALLY loud, and probably singing along with it... it has to be the right CD, of course... The Cure and Stabbing Westward only make me feel worse... :)
2. Everyone's got their own definition of "comfort food." What's yours? Chocolate covered pretzels... yummy yummy yummy... I could seriously eat them all day!
I like it when there aren't a lot of questions... gets done a lot faster... :)
Shannon says I need more quizzes... I'll look for some, but I think I'm running out of quizzes to find!!!!
This is the Monday Mission... something new to ScaryWhiteGirl.net, but neat nonetheless... :)
1. Do you have a favorite piece of poetry or prose written by someone else? Care to share it? Although I like Edgar Allen Poe and Shakespeare, I don't really have anything that would qualify as a favorite piece of poetry or prose written by someone else. Though if we are considering music to also count as poetry, I would have to go with:
"Don't you mess with a little girl's dreams
cuz she's liable to grow up mean.
Surprised you to find that I'm laughing
you thought that you'd find me in tears.
You thought I'd be climbing the walls
like a tiny mosquito and trembling in fear.
Well you may be king for the moment,
but I am a queen understand.
And I've got your pawns and your bishops
and castles all inside the palm of my hand."
... which is the first verse of "Control," by Poe.
2. In High School, did you enjoy creative writing? Do you currently do any other writing in addition to your Blog? Yup, I loved it. And yup, I write quite a bit of game related fiction, though I haven't done much recently.
3. Have you ever noticed that the Blog entries you least expect to get the most comments do, and those you expect to generate a lot of feedback don't? Which Blog entry of yours surprised you by getting a lot of comments? Which one did you think would generate a lot but didn't? I went for almost a week without getting any comments, so that kinda surprised me. Lately, though, I get the predictable comments to my posts, and nothing of major surprise. Though I am occasionally surprised when someone at game mentions that they read my page, and they've never commented... (HINT HINT!)
4. Sometimes you get a chance to make a lifestyle change that has a huge impact on the course your life takes. That is, a moment where something became very clear to you, and that realization changed your life, such as: the need to leave a relationship, to stop an addiction, to bond with someone, to start a new career, and so on. Have you ever had an "awakening" moment in your life? Hmmm... well, yes. I'm not going to comment further than that, however.
5. Then there are other times where you can have a huge impact on someone else's life. You suggest they see a doctor, stop them from taking that last drink, or maybe just say some kind words at the moment. Have you made a lasting positive impact on the life of someone else? Not to my knowledge, though I'm fairly sure that I have.
6. Are there any charities or organizations which you support? How did you come to be involved with them? Ummm... I was a member of the Collinsville Jaycees, and I guess I still am, technically. But I joined so that I could LARP at the haunted house... not the most noble of reasons. I did help out with some of the Jaycees stuff when I was going to Collinsville every weekend, but I haven't been up there in a good long while now...
7. Care to collaborate with me? Help me out and write the rest of this poem:
I drifted though a dream last night,
visions full of colors bright.
My thoughts began to drift to you,
and in an instant we were two.
I touched your hand,
We began to blend,
Filled with a feeling
that should have no end.
.... Ugh, I'm not good at helping other people with poetry... I'll leave this one alone! :)
BONUS: Hey cutie, what's up with this attitude? What, you mean you don't like my attitude? Well, in the words of my little sister... YOUR MOM! :p
Okay, this is good... I just had to carry some books to one of our carrels. Hanging from the door was a nice little sign talking about how we should conserve energy and resources, and recycling and such... basically, all about not wasting stuff...
HELLO!?!? Did they bother to find out who used the carrels before they wasted this one? If you look through the window on the door, it's quite clearly filled with books... most of the graduate carrels (which I think were the target audience) aren't full of books... I'm actually wondering if they put these up on all of the carrel doors. We have about 15+ carrels in this hallway... and if they did put them on all of the carrels, I'm sure my boss went around and took them down this morning... so another batch wasted... *sigh*... how silly...
Back for another week of work, after another game filled weekend! :)
On Friday, I was in sort of an odd mood, which made playing Jubilee a little bit unusual. At one point, I ended up laying on my back on one of the tables, looking at a bunch of people upside-down. Would have stayed there longer, too, if it hadn't been for all the blood in my body rushing to my head... :) Other than that, though, things are going steadily. People are actually making plans about how we're going to take the city back, rather than just rushing in like crazy people! :) Disturbingly, Jubilee has a lot of respect for Simon right now... and Simon isn't even Sabbat! He's our resident Giovanni, who is helping us take the city back...
On Saturday, we had to get to game really early so that we could run a scene that took place on Friday... which was all entertaining and such... but as we were sitting there, I overheard Dan talking to some people with a video camera about needing zombies... I looked at Gabe, and said "hey, they need zombies!", which quickly spread down the row of assembled gamers. So we called Dan over, and a bunch of us got to play zombies for a student produced TV show thingie... I got to be the Frankenstein type zombie, cuz I wasn't very good at shambling... :)
And then game was fun as well... Megan and Aaron finally came to play their Malkavians, which brought the "contingent" up to 5 people... we sucked them straight into the courthouse plot as well, as all of the Malkavians went to the basement to watch the pretty swirly thing on the floor, while the rest of the city had to deal with the people who were being Skinridden by the wraiths... and when the Malks finally came upstairs, we just sat on the couches and watched the combat, applauding when it was done... it seriously disturbed Jim's new character, too! Go us! :)
So we didn't have to sneak out of the faux-Elysium this time (cuz I was hosting it)... :) Unfortunately, my brilliant plan of keeping the Giovanni out didn't work entirely, as Ed's silly Giovanni came in anyhow... and his dumb wraiths too... ah well, though. At least Mikhail isn't gonna be bugging us anymore!
Sunday was the usual sitting around and doing basically nothing, compounded by the fact that I was absolutely miserable because of my allergies. A lot of people were, from what I have heard... and Joanna said that she heard that they had sprayed the entire country to try to kill mosquitos, in an effort to stop the spread of the West Nile virus... so maybe that's what was messing everyone up. Any rate, I'm feeling much better today, though my throat is still a tiny bit sore...
Watched Far and Away last night. I know I saw that movie before, but I only remembered about 2 scenes from it... that was weird... :) Had a good quote in it, though... :) "You came back from the dead to tell me that I'm odd?" I like it... :)
Twelve angels descended from Heaven, each putting a piece of themselves into those who would follow them.... Which Angel rests inside you? Challenge their trial to find out.
Yeah, I suppose that's right... better than the Black Angel, which was the one I kept getting at first... said I was a ladies' man... how is that possible? :)
1. What was/is your favorite subject in school? Why? Hmmm... well, I think I'd have to go with History, seeing as that's what I ended up majoring in. I didn't like it as a school subject all that much as a kid, though I always liked reading biographies and such. When I was in high school, I realized I could do really well with memorizing dates and names and such, so I started doing REALLY well on my History tests... add that to the fact that I can write fairly well, and I ended up pretty good at it! :)
2. Who was your favorite teacher? Why? In high school, it was Mrs. Schuey. She was our English teacher for three years, and she was the sponsor of the gaming club... my first DM ever... :) In college, had to be Adam Davis. Another English teacher (no wonder I almost got a 2nd major in English!), and LOTS of fun... the night our Beowulf class went out drinking was an absolute riot! :)
3. What is your favorite memory of school? Ummm... the night our Beowulf class went out drinking is a good one... other than that... can't really think of any particularly stand-out moments.
4. What was your favorite recess game? Ugh... I hated playing games at recess... four square was okay, but only cuz the ball wasn't necessarily hurtling towards you at an ungodly speed. But I was more inclined to make up my own games that were more like make-believe type stuff...
What did you hate most about school? Probably having to get up early in the morning to go... though now, that isn't such a big deal... I'm so used to getting up early, that I don't even think twice about it. I'm so bad, I even get up early on the weekends! For no good reason! :)
::..::
There have been many candidates for the End of the Work Week Wisdom this week. Most have been rejected because they were inside jokes, that very few people outside would understand... so we'll go with something that's been tacked up on the side of my filing cabinet at work for ages...
"Always look both ways before you stop traffic." --Something Megan clipped from a magazine ad
::..::
Aside from all that, I am absolutely LOVING the weather right now... it's nice and cool out in the mornings and evenings, and doesn't get too hot during the day, either. So I'm finally able to wear my jeans and long sleeved shirts... and soon, my sweaters!!!! :)
You know, I was just reminded of something... a while back, somebody (I think it was A) had the idea of writing stories about the "PC waiting room" (though it would perhaps be better described as a "PC break room"...) The idea was to take a handful of your PCs and have them all get together just to chill... you would have to pretend, of course, that their various affiliations and "races" were more of a job than an essential part of their existence... this sort of tripped me up, because I couldn't imagine Anneke, or Morgan, or Kjra, "off the job"... all three of them were very dedicated to what they did, and only Kjra had anything that resembled a life outside of that...
But when I looked at my page, and saw me as Morgan eyeballing me as Jubilee, I had an idea... what if Morgan and Jubilee met up? It's entirely plausible, seeing as they're both Sabbat... so now I'm sorta working over an idea in my head... though it's kinda free-form at the moment... might have to get that down on paper though! :)
Yes, I got my pictures developed yesterday. The pictures from Sarah's wedding didn't turn out well... too dark in the church, and the flash on my camera doesn't carry well... and when you're trying to take a picture of 10 people (the whole wedding party), you can't exactly get very close. The pictures of me fixing the car were silly looking... 'nuff said... :) The pictures from Garou were really good. Very clear and pretty scenery, and good shots of a lot of people. I'll get them scanned at some point. And the pictures from The American Frontier are pretty good, aside from the so-so lighting in the Student Center... they're on the pack pages...
Other than that, got a bunch of errands done yesterday (though not everything I had hoped to get done), and watched Shadow of a Vampire... was falling asleep by the end of it, despite the fact that it was only 9:30... *sigh*... I'm so old... :)
If you're looking for commentary on the 9/11 anniversary, you won't find it here. Don't have anything to say on the subject.
Everybody should go check out Marlon's page, cuz he lists me on there as his LARP mom... awwwww... :) Oh, and if any of my other LARP children have webpages, or livejournals, or any of those great things, lemme know, and I'll link to it! :)
Gabe made a comment today that I was wearing status beads on my backpack... well duh! It's my LARP Marm status... and since I couldn't remember what they all were at the moment, here we go: Famous (yellow), Revered (black), Well-Known (blue), Influential (silver sparkles), Cherished (green), Adored (clear pinkish-purple); (personal status) Kick-Ass (purple), That Darn Cute (hot pink), Dead Girl (red sparkles), Scary White Girl (silver), and Well-Connected-with-White-Wolf-Books (blue pearly). So hah. :) I think "Dead Girl" used to be "My sister plays a hooker"... but she doesn't anymore, so I took that one off... :)
Gonna go get my film developed this afternoon... this will include pictures from Sarah's wedding, an early Garou game, me fixing the car, and the American Frontier this past Friday... yeah, it takes me FOREVER to finish a roll of film if I'm not somewhere nifty... :) There's probably other stuff on there as well, that I can't remember... but we'll see when I get the pictures back... gotta love one-hour developing... :)
So I was flipping through my copy of Mexico City by Night last night, when I discovered something unusual. They list both a proofreader and an editor for this book. *gasp*... does that mean that White Wolf has actually decided to put a little more time and effort into their products? Perhaps this is the case, since I don't really recall finding any HORRIBLE errors in Mexico City by Night... maybe I should double check it for them... :)
Yet every time I pick up Encyclopedia Vampirica, another glaring error jumps out at me... found a misspelling of Giovanni last night... alas, it wasn't Ghivanni... that would have made me happy... :)
Must check up on the other White Wolf books I've gotten recently... maybe they're finally concerned with printing books that don't make me mad... :)
And a quiz... :)
Its only the classic black Doc Martens for me... My soul is dark so why shouldn't my shoes be?
Have I mentioned before that I HATE numbers? I've spent the entire morning thus far trying to make a bunch of numbers make some semblance of sense... and then, after I got the first batch to work out, I have to check the math on an application for MORE money... this is sooooo not what I'm good at!
Mainly planning a lot of stuff for LARP in my spare time... we got a special request to do some stuff for Friday night, so we had to come up with a good plan for that... and Dani is soooo in the middle of everything right now, this week moreso than usual. You would have thought I learned my lesson with Miranda, but no... I can't say what exactly I'm doing, but if you read the journal, you'll probably be able to guess... *sigh*...
That's about it at the moment, other than plugging away at the website for The American Frontier... it's almost done! :)
I'm a Moonflower. I only bloom at night and I'm pollinated by moths. Kinky, huh? This flower means "I dream of love" and I do. What bloom are you? by Polly_Snodgrass
This is amusing, seeing as I used to play a character named Phoenix Moonflower... didn't know there was such a thing as a moonflower! :)
Well, playing Jubilee wasn't the easiest thing I've ever done, but I am getting a good start at slipping into her character. The derangements are easy enough to play, I just need to make sure to make her personality a little more distinct from Dani's personality. And we've already picked up a probationary member of our pack... and since I know she reads this, Shannon, I hope you're ready for what we're gonna dish out... we'll try not to break you, though we may break your character... :)
Anyways, I'm not really far enough into that game to say a whole lot just yet... we've got a city to reclaim from the Camarilla, despite the fact that Jack and Jubilee would be perfectly happy to stay in New Orleans... :)
Saturday - Camarilla
I don't know all of the details on this for certain, so if something sounds implausible, I probably got it wrong...
We found out that a sizeable pack of Sabbat was attacking a nursing home. Magdalena went there (I think in Astral Projection), and hit two of the Sabbat there with Total Insanity. A short while later, the "cavalry" shows up. This consisted of the Dizzy (the Brujah Prince), D (the Brujah Scourge), Paul (the Gangrel Sheriff), Rudolph and Kenneth (a couple more Gangrel), Peaches (the Tremere Primogen), Magdalena and Dr. Webster (Malkavians), and Dani (my "Ravnos")...
Now, we thought there was something along the lines of 12 Sabbat in the building. The powers that be decided that the "powerhouses" would face the Sabbat, and they would send the Malkavians, the Ravnos, and the Sheriff in to rescue any remaining inhabitants of the nursing home. Before we got in, three of the Sabbat had been destroyed... down to 9.
We get inside, and there's lots of smoke and such, and a napalm-like substance on the floor. Yum. So they send the Malk crew upstairs to look for inhabitants. I think the people who stayed down below got briefly flash fried when they shot into the napalm-like subtance... oops!
Anyhow, we get upstairs and start looking for inhabitants. As we round one corner, we see a group of six people who are clearly vampires walking towards us. They see us, and look terrified. But we know they're Sabbat, so we rip into them... Paul with wolf claws, me with my gun, and the Malks with stakes. Within 3 or 4 rounds, we had taken out or staked five of the six (one was thrown out the window by one of the other Sabbat)... we discovered that they had all been pretty messed up before we got to them(apparently by the ax-wielding Total Insanitied Sabbat member)... but we were DAMN proud of ourselves... especially cuz we think the other group only got two of the remaining three in the building.
Well, we take one of the staked Sabbat and interrogate her (through my mad Telepathy skillz...), and find out that there is at least one more member of her pack staying at a seedy motel. We tell the Prince and a couple of other people about it, but they aren't moving. So the "Malk contingent" grabs the Sheriff and heads out...
We find the lone Lasombra in his motel room, and take him out after a couple of rounds of futile staking in the dark (Obtenebration cloud)... finally Magdalena used Voice of Madness on him, and he ran out of the room, where I was waiting with my gun... and the Sheriff and I took him down in a couple of shots. So we stake him, and take him back for interrogation as well.
So not only do the Malks get a body count of 7 (at least in our minds), but we find out from the second staked Sabbat that Mikhail Giovanni has been informing them when and where the Camarilla is going to strike... and did I mention that Dani in particular, and the Malks in general HATE Mikhail? So we head back to Elysium, where we tell the Prince, and the next things I heard out of his mouth were "Right of Destruction on Mikhail"... which was all we needed to charge after Mikhail.
Unfortunately, I'm not sure we took him out ( the combat ran FOREVER! ), but he's at least in torpor, and probably not much longer for this world... and I got to shoot him a couple of times... :)
So that's it for gaming stories... :)
Watched Braveheart last night, which I had never seen before. I rather liked it, though the guy getting his head smashed in wasn't very pleasant... I did okay with all the other "gross" parts... :)
I would do the Friday Five today, but I don't really have answers to the questions... at least not good answers...
Sooooo...
"End of the Work Week Wisdom"!
"They're the closest thing we have to aliens!" --It was in reference to old people... don't ask...
And a test for today...
Artistic and maybe even a bit shallow, you belong to the clan of the Toredor. You have a keen eye for pretty things. The embrace is looked on as perserving all beautiful things for eternity. You are the sensual vampires that you hear people talk about that seduce to get what they want. This clan is the one thought of as being the spoiled sort who want to get what they want. However, you usually work right under the ventrue clan as they try to carry out their plans. What Vampire Clan Do You Belong To?
Damn right... :) Though it would be better if it were spelled correctly... ToreAdor, people...
Oooh, oooh! I'm all excited cuz they got the Halloween stuff out at Wal-Mart, and I found the kewlest ankh last night! It's all cheap plastic and stuff, but it looks really neat and has a purple gem looking thingie on it... and with the chain it's on, hangs down almost to my belly button... but it's yet another ankh for my collection!
And I'm all psyched because I get to play Jubilee tonight! This is my first ever Malkavian character, and she's Malkavian antitribu at that... so it's bound to be a trip. The only thing I'm concerned about is that I don't want people to think that "wacky" is the only thing I can play... cuz Dani is pretty wacky, and Jubilee has that potential as well... I would simply like to state, she is NOT a fuzzy bunny Malk... and any similarities between her and Dani are purely coincidental. I think, though, that her two actual derangements (Obsession and Masochism) ought to help me NOT play her too off the wall... at least that's what I'm going for! :)
1. How do you picture your funeral? Honestly, it's not something I've thought a lot about. My sister, Sarah, once had a dream that I died, and then she went to my funeral, and I was wearing one of her dresses... she later gave me that dress, and it's still in my closet... I NEVER wear it, but that's because it's all white and flowery... hopefully it won't end up a part of my funeral.
Any rate, I guess I've got this plan to live forever... and not worry about my funeral... though I suppose if I had to choose, I'd probably like a New Orleans style funeral... parade and jazz music and such...
2. As a juror, you are sworn to not discuss with anyone the details of the trial you're impaneled for. Do you (would you) anyway? Probably not, cuz I'm only interested in gossip type stuff about people I know. And I wouldn't be a juror on a case in which I knew any of the people involved...
3. Would you rather live someplace where it's always between 80-90 degrees F both day and night, or someplace where it's always 40-50 degrees F? (For you metric types, that's 26-32C or 4-10C.) Hmmm... as much as I hate being cold, I think I'd have to go with 40-50 degrees all the time. Cuz I have tons and tons of really good fall/winter clothes, and I love my leather jacket... if it was hot all the time, I'd never get to wear any of that... :(
Hmmm... looking at the previous questions on this one, I think I kinda like it... might do this on a regular basis now! :)
Shannon was telling me the other day that I need more quizzes on my site... dunno if I actually do, but I haven't really had much luck finding good ones lately... but, to keep people entertained, how about this: Blogatelle - Test Archive of Death. The problem is that about half of these tests don't exist anymore... but if you pace yourself, this could provide weeks of entertainment... :)
It was downright cold this morning... does this mean that fall is FINALLY going to get here? I sooooo can't wait... I bought a couple of new sweaters over the summer, and I really want to get to wear them! My luck, though, it's gonna get really warm at least one more time before it turns into fall... *sigh*... the trials and tribulations of living in the Midwest...
This is really kewl... Benny had this on his page, so I decided to get one for mine as well. Specially since Benny put me down as one of his parents... awww... :)
Though I do have to note that through some twisted means, Benny is both my child and my brother... gah! :) Nobody ever said the internet wasn't incestuous! :)
Decided to toss a picture of me onto the page... dunno why... it's just a picture that I like... :)
Granted, that's not really what I look like anymore... seeing as I've had short hair since June... but I don't have any pictures of me with short hair yet... still have to finish off the roll that's been in my camera since... April, if not earlier! There's pictures from Garou on there, as well as the pictures of me fixing the car... so I think I'm gonna go take pictures one of these days, so that I can get that roll developed...
And then there can be a new picture of me... :)
But for those who don't know, that's pretty much an IC picture of Morgan with her "Mask of 1000 Faces" up... trying to look like Death... :)
Will the weather please make up it's frickin' mind? It was nice out on the way to work today... little bit of breeze, sunshine, not too hot yet. Last I looked out my window, it's gone all overcast... and I left my umbrella at home! *grumble*
Argh... I'm working on stupid accounting type stuff at work today, and it's already getting on my nerves... all I have to do is find some numbers to plug into a form, but finding the numbers is quite a headache... :(
Two more days till the American Frontier begins... that's definitely something to look forward to! :)
Been thinking about what I want to run at Egyptian Campaign this year, since I have to have it turned in by the end of the month... I think I've figured it out... now to E-mail the convention people and see if one of my plans will be kewl with them... :)
I should be working right now, but I'm too excited. MY book just got here! :)
Okay, okay... so it's not my book, but I am the associate editor on it... and, alas, I didn't end up on the front cover... but I am on the title page (inside), and you can still search Amazon.com for my name and find my book! :)
Oh, here... my book... it says it isn't available till November, but the copies on my desk tell me otherwise... :)
*sigh*... I forgot my medicine at home today... still trying to decide whether or not it is worth it to run home and get it, or whether I should just skip it for this morning... I'm leaning towards the "skip it" option... probably will be fine if I do that... this is the problem of a three-day-weekend spent (primarily) at home...
The Forgotten was Saturday, as always... didn't go too horribly bad... the Malkavian contingent discovered something not so happy in the basement of Dani's building (the one I've owned since the fall, but was only told about on Saturday night!)... but I haven't decided what to do about that yet... was gonna tell Peaches, but I'm debating whether I actually will or not... there is a tendency that I've noticed that when we tell other people about something we've discovered, it gets poked, prodded, and dead... so maybe we'll keep this one to ourselves... >:) Aside from that, though, lots of fun... like our kewl idea for "lamb mimes"... which may be converted into "lamb mines," if all goes well... :)
Also on Saturday, I volunteered to take care of the webpage for The American Frontier... so there's a page, though it sucks mightily at the moment... :)
Must remember that today is Tuesday... I keep forgetting this fact... *sigh*...
