I think this is turning out to be one of the slowest afternoons of my entire life! I can't believe it's just after 3 p.m.... it feels like I should have left hours ago, and should be well on my way to E-ville already! But, alas, I'm not... :(

What to do to kill about 45 minutes? After that, I can start getting my stuff together, and leave... and that will be a good thing!

Oh, I suppose I could do some work... :)

Friday Five!

1. As a child, who was your favorite superhero/heroine? Why? I was a big Wonder Woman fan, though it was probably less because I knew who she was, and more because I had way cool Wonder Woman Underoos! :) Superhero/heroine underwear ROCKS! :)

2. What was one thing you always wanted as a child but never got? A pony! No, really... I always wanted a horse, or at least to get to ride a horse. My cousins had horses that they rode, so why couldn't I, right? :)

3. What's the furthest from home you've been? Not sure if Tempe, AZ, or Virginia Beach, VA, was further from home... but I would suspect it's one or the other. Tempe, at least to me, FELT further from home, because I went there by myself, to visit my friend Jamie. Virginia Beach, on the other hand, was a family trip...

4. What's one thing you've always wanted to learn but haven't yet? I'd love to be able to actually SPEAK a foreign language passably well. I've studied French, Latin, Old English, and German, but I can't actually speak any of them worth a damn... people tell me stuff in one of those languages (usually French or German), and I get very confused... :(

5. What are your plans for the weekend? Riding up to E-ville tonight for OWBN. Saturday, probably mostly putzing around during the day, and then the C-dale OWBN game at night. Sunday, laundry, homework, and maybe actually running my TT game... but we'll see... :)

Now it's time to go watch "Life of Brian!"

Today is a very short day at work... had class this morning, so that ate up an hour and a half of my day, and I'm leaving around 1:30 or so for my eye appointment... yay! Probably new glasses for the SWG! Hopefully not the kind that I have to wear all the time! :)

It's not really that I would mind wearing glasses all the time for "fashion" reasons, cuz I could probably get some that are decently cute... but I think it would be a big hassle... I'm just not used to it! And it would make sunglasses annoying to try to wear... :(

But hey, I don't think my eyes are that bad, yet... :)

We watched "Dead Poets' Society" last night. I hadn't seen it for a very long time, and somehow I had forgotten that it was set in the 50s... it just never really crossed my mind that this was the case. It makes sense, sure, but I honestly just thought it was an ultra-conservative all boys school in New England... :)

In other news, apparently our neighbors (as in the ones who live through the wall from us, not across the hall) have an early class on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and like to wake up by listening to country music... ugh! So I put on good music to listen to, to drown theirs out... :)

And last night, someone over there was singing part of "The Right Stuff" by New Kids on the Block... that was eerie, cuz Gabe and I both recognized it, and he finished it for them... weird... thin walls are fairly annoying... :)

Oh, but I got work done on Redneck Rampage, which I'm proud of... we sorta realized that time was running out, and we needed a plot... :) Oops! :)

It was doing the weirdest snow-ish thing this morning while I was walking to work... it sounded like rain, but looked like snow, or maybe sleet... very weird! :)

But now it's stopped that, and aside from the wind, we seem to be getting the promised warmer weather. I can definitely live with that! :)

We watched "Pecker" last night, which was very funny, but also very bizarre... very John Waters... :) I like Edward Furlong, and anything with Christina Ricci on it is on my list of things to see... :)

Dunno what we'll do tonight, but it looks like we may go watch "Life of Brian" on Thursday... gotta love Monty Python movies... :) Friday is a trip to E-ville for OWBN, and Saturday will be our OWBN game here. I'm hoping for lots of fun plotting, and hopefully not too much chasing around the big baddies that are amuck in the city at the moment... *sigh*...

Anyways, back to work now, I suppose... :)

I've decided that I do my best "writing" in the oddest places--when I'm in the shower, or walking to work alone, or driving alone. I have to call it "writing," though, because it's really hard to actually put pen to paper in the situations where I "write" the best... so it ends up being thoughts in my head that would turn out really kewl on paper, but by the time I actually get to a place where I could write, the thoughts have usually slipped my mind. *sigh*...

This was all brought about because I was thinking about the fact that you could just tell by the wind this morning that it was going to get warmer today. Except that while I was thinking this (walking to work), it sounded a whole lot kewler... ah well.

Anyway, it is a lot warmer today, and I'm happy about it... the forecast looks pretty good for the next week, really. Maybe a bit cool tomorrow, but after that, the highs are supposed to be in the mid 40s-50s for the next few days. I can definitely live with that! :) Of course, it probably means that my office will be overly warm for a while, but as long as it's warm outside, and I can get away with not bundling up for the walk to work, it's okay if it's warm in my office.

I wish it was lunchtime already!

*sigh*... now LJ is acting stupid... can I never have two functioning journals at once?!?!?! I just lost a big post about the Friday game over there... *grumble*...

Well, then I'll post here, but it will be shorter. It was good. Not exactly what I was expecting, but good nonetheless. I like being Bishop, and people seem inclined to follow what I (and/or my pack) want them to do. Rock on! :)

Oh, w00t! My archives work properly again! :)

Yeah, I know, the littlest things excite me... :) But when I couldn't figure it out for the longest time, I was silently very annoyed... now it's all better, and I'm a happy little Scary White Girl once again... :)

While I'm on here typing (again, for the fourth time today), I thought I'd share something that was in my calendar over the weekend. This year, I got the "Unexplained Phenomenon" day-by-day calendar... cuz I'm a total X-Files junkie... :)

"In their book Eccentrics: A Study of Sanity and Strangeness (1995) neuropsychologist David Weeks and coauthor Jamie James write: 'Eccentrics are people who take a boundless joy in life.... Their minds are always buzzing furiously with ideas. They may fail in a particular endeavor, but society wins by their example.... At the root of eccentricity is a healthy and determined irreverence. It is utterly harmless, and a source of decency, tolerance, and respect for different views and different people.' "

Rock... :)

Eccentric and proud of it! :)

Oh, in other exciting news, my new shirt with the skeleton on it glows in the dark... w00t! :)

Okay, so I can post, sorta... the internet is really really slow today... one of my co-workers said that he heard there was a virus going around that slowed down the internet. I suppose it's possible, but I haven't heard anything of the sort... then again, how often do I watch the news? :)

So yeah, I have internet at home now, so maybe there will be more of an update later, if the internet hasn't slowed to a grinding halt... *sigh*...

Yeah, my blog has been pretty thin lately, because I've been getting over a cold... joy...

Tried to call about a phone line yesterday, but my cell phone wouldn't let me... *sigh*... so that's on the list of things to do later today, while at work... :)

The End of the Work Week Wisdom this week is long:

Gabe: "Wanna do donuts on the street?"
Me: "No..."
Gabe: "C'mon, it'll be fun!"
Me: "No, I'm hungry..."
Gabe: "Umm... it'll be donuts!"

So I'm enrolled in my class for audit now, which means I don't have to worry about the paper or the exam... just do the reading, go to class, and talk on occasion... rock on! :)

Gotta look into getting a real (read: land based) phone line for the apartment, so that we can get internet there. Still gotta keep my cell phone though, cuz it's nice and convenient and has built in caller ID and voice mail! :) Actually, it's not so much a matter of looking into it, as I know exactly what I want to get... it's just a matter of getting everything signed up... and then going and buying a really long phone cord with a splitter, and shorter phone cords to connect mine and Gabe's computers to the phone line. I really HATE having only one phone jack in the whole apartment.

Because, you see, in my dad's house, we had phone jacks in every room. Yes, including the bathroom. When I was 15, and moved into the basement, I had 3 phones in my room. One at EACH end of my bed, and one at the desk. That, my friends, is every teenaged girl's DREAM room! Okay, except for the fact that it was super cold, and didn't have a door... but the phone situation was great! :)

But what this all means is that I was spoiled, in that phones or internet connections have never been a problem... but now, the only phone jack is in the living room, behind the entertainment center... so I have to run phone cord up the wall, across the ceiling, and into the computer room, and then split it, so it can be attached to my computer (which is on the wall nearest to the living room) and Gabe's computer (which is opposite mine, on the far side of the room). Shouldn't be hard, as long as I can find a way to make the cord stick to the ceiling... :)

It's been a madly busy day today, as evidenced by my lack of posting until now. Class this morning, then lots of work, then Denis stopping by, then more work, lunch, and more work... whew!

The weekend was pretty good... Friday was an in-week scene for the Forgotten, that had us a bit terrified... VERY kewl though, and a lot of fun, when all was said and done. Mostly glad we got it taken care of, though the end result wasn't what we necessarily wanted from the outset.

Saturday was game, with a handful of out of town visitors... a small game, as most of our own players were in Milwaukee, but a very good game nonetheless... interesting stuff in Elysium, which is always kewl... and Dani is almost NOT hating the Giovanni... or maybe it's just that she's learning to like some of them much more, after meeting ones that she most definitively does NOT like... :) There was quite a bit of back room dealing, and I got cut out of the poker game (heh), but it was still very kewl... :)

Sunday... ummm... what DID I do on Sunday? Laundry and reading, and I guess I took up the rest of the time with The Sims... :)

Monday, since it was a day off, was for shopping... I found an old copy of In Nomine, which is a very kewl angels and demons game that I talked about before (when ranting about Demon: The Fallen)... and I also got my own copy of HOL... a.k.a. Human Occupied Landfill... which is a little known and often hard to find product of Black Dog, the "mature" section of White Wolf. It's a VERY funny game, which I have played once, in Blitz's basement... which was a source of vast amusement... :) Now if I can just find Buttery Wholesomeness, so I can do character creation, I'll be set! :) We also hit the mall, and a T-shirt that I had been wanting for a while was on the clearance rack at Hot Topic... w00t! See, Gabe has his skeleton shirt, which has a rib cage on the chest, and arm bones down the arms... very kewl... well now I have one too... except smaller (duh!), and with a nice heart where it belongs in the rib cage... just perfect for Jubilee, so that she can match with Jack! :)

And now I'm back at work... yay, isn't that exciting... I'm leaving a little early to go switch my course from regular enrollment to audit, as I discovered that I don't need the hours... *sigh*... :)

Lookie, lookie! It's the Friday Five!

1. Where do you currently work? The Ulysses S. Grant Association, at Southern Illinois University Carbondale.

2. How many other jobs have you had and where? Hmmm... let's see... I worked at McDonalds starting the summer after my senior year of high school, and for the 4 summers after that. I worked for my mom's friend as a secretary some summers. During college, I had a quasi-student work job helping a professor with grading and class stuff. After I graduated, I got a teaching assistantship for 2 and a half years while I worked on my Master's. I babysat for Southern Baptist children one summer. Then I came down here, and was a research assistant for a year, and have had my current job since then. I think that's all... :)

3. What do you like best about your job? It can be really interesting, and it's actually within the field I studied (my mom, on hearing that I wanted to be a history major, told me that I'd never find work in my field unless I taught)...

4. What do you like least about your job? Sometimes, when I don't have any interesting projects (read: projects that I actually want to do), it's pretty boring...

5. What is your dream job? I like what I'm doing now, but it would be so much better if I could stay at home, and work in my pajamas! THAT'S my dream job! :)

End of the Work Week Wisdom:

Joyce: How can you hate it so much?
Steve: It eats my relatives!

And, in other news, I REALLY want a new computer... Gabe's new laptop ROCKS! He can talk to it, and it will (mostly) do what he tells it to do! It just has some confusion between "page down" and "paste clipboard," apparently... hehehehe... :) And the screensavers are so kewl... *sigh*... I will not break down and get a Mac just because they do pretty things... :p

Gah... why is it not even quarter after 3 yet? It feels like I've been here for a year or more!

Haven't looked outside lately to see how much snow I'll be wading through on my walk home today. It seemed, though, that every time I looked out the window this morning, it was still coming down. And, at last glance, my Weather Pixie said much of the same.

I'm a bit anxious about it, cuz Gabe's new laptop arrived today, and since no one was home to get it when they came by earlier, it's sitting in Marion right now. If the roads are okay, we get to go pick it up after I get off work. If the roads are crappy, then we have to see if they will deliver it LATE tomorrow, like when he's out of class for the day. And even tho it's a Mac, I still wanna see it and stuff! Should be all pretty and shiny and new... unlike my computer, which is getting quite old... but it's okay, I won't be jealous for long, cuz I'm planning to look at a new computer for myself, probably in March! :)

Ah, just got a report from a co-worker that the snow has stopped and the sun is out! I suppose that's kewl, tho it still doesn't tell me how deep the existing snow is. Wading in snow is no good, even when I am wearing my good snowy weather boots today!

Hmmm... time to find things to occupy the next hour with... :)

I'm back! :) And as Cindy perceptively noted, "If Dawn was talking about being sick, and then didn't post, she's probably sick again." Good call... :) But I'm feeling a lot better now, though I have a rather annoying sore spot on my neck, as if I slept on it funny... :(

Ran Angels Laugh last night, and it was much improved over the previous session. I think, though, that I may have disturbed Gabe with the Duran Duran theme that was running through it, mostly as a joke... unfortunately, he had never seen the video for "Rio," so he missed out on a lot of the good imagery... hehehehe... :) What can I say, it came to me in a moment of inspiration, and I had to run with it... :)

The Forgotten comes back on Saturday... w00t w00t w00t! :) I'm all kinds of excited! :)

Happy birthday to you!

Yup, that's right... today is ScaryWhiteGirl.net's 1st birthday! :) Awwww... she's such an adorable one year old... :)

Nope, no big plans for the birthday... at least none yet! Then again, I've only been at work for about 15 minutes. Had class this morning, but we got out very early...

At least I'm starting to feel a little bit better now... I was feeling really sick last night, and didn't sleep well because of it... but I had to crawl out of bed to go to class this morning, and now I'm feeling okay, I guess... still not great, however... :(

Anyways, time to finish up my morning surfing, and then start working! :)

I can't believe it's not even 3:00 yet... this day has been dragging on horrendously long... *sigh*...

Went and got my new staff ID today, but they didn't retake my picture... poo... I really hate my old picture... I also hate the fact that the staff IDs have yellow backgrounds... yellow!!! I don't know about anyone else, but I'm of the opinion that people with fairly pale skin don't look all that good in yellow... or with it surrounding their head... :( Anyways, Gabe finally got his student ID made (hey, he's only been here for a whole semester now), and his looks good... but students get a red background on their IDs, and the red background + black hair and clothes + pale skin = actually looks good... :)

It's kinda weird today, because for the past week, and the week I worked before break, there were no students around, so campus was really quiet... now it's back to the normal busy activity. Even though this happens every year, it still seems weird the first day back.

Oh, and it's REALLY warm in my office now, so I'm extra glad I wore a T-shirt under my sweater today... the people in my office are just gonna have to deal with me wearing my Dead Can Dance T-shirt... at least it's not obnoxious or anything (the exact reason why I DIDN'T wear my Mo Hall T-shirt, from the first year I was in the dorms at NMSU / Truman)... :)

Here I am! :) Stayed home on Friday cuz I was tired and my tummy was hurting when I woke up... got much better later in the day, so we went and bought the new TV and entertainment center... then spent about 2 hours putting the entertainment center together, and another hour rearranging stuff... still, it was all done in time for the Project Twilight game, so it was all good! :)

And all I can say about the TV is... DUDE... 25 inch TV, now hooked up to the stereo, so that when we watch DVDs, it's ALMOST surround sound... just have to get some nails, and put up the surround sound speakers... w00t! :)

So Project Twilight game was Friday night, and we got through a chunk of the action, and no one died... Cindy's and my characters got knocked down to Wounded (so it'll be a month, a week, and four days till we're fully healed, if we don't get anything special done)... but no one died, or got bit by the zombies! :)

Battle Royale was Saturday, and the team I was on won... it was ALMOST the dream team... but Gabe got put on the other team... :( So Cindy, Karac, Nick, and I were on a team with Alan, Big Dave, and Phil... and we kicked much ass... :) Next time, however, it's gonna be much better, as we get to choose our teams in advance, and make up our characters to complement each other and work together... and we've already talked about what we wanna do... :)

Yesterday was a bunch of sitting around and being lazy, and a really short session of Angels Laugh... which I wasn't really into... which made it (in my opinion) suck... *sigh*... I know that I am overly critical of my STing, but I really do think I did really badly last night... :( Ah well, I'm hoping to make up for it with the next session, as I know what I'm doing with that... :)

Anyways, classes started back up today, but I don't have class until tomorrow... Tuesdays and Thursdays, I won't even be getting to work until 9:30ish, as I have class first thing in the morning... we'll see how that goes! :)

Found a couple of online comics over the past couple of days that I rather like...

One is Shaw Island... half of it is about some guys, and the other half is about sentient hamsters... now, the hamster part is probably funny, but for some reason, I was just skimming all those... I dunno, call me crazy... :)

The other one is D.U.R.P.H., which is about LARPers... sometimes... :) w00t! :)

And, yet again, I'm of the opinion that Gabe and I need to finish our comic, and post it... :)

Okay, now this is too cool! Cosmo Undead... I haven't read all of it yet, but what I've seen so far has been thoroughly amusing! :)

In other news, ran some Angels Laugh last night... one of these days, I might make some updates to that page... and, one of these days, when I get really bored, I may put up a page for the game we affectionately refer to as "Turkey Madness"... that is, the game that was supposed to be my one-shot Sabbat game on the day after Thanksgiving... but, we had so much fun with it, and more free time to kill over Christmas break, so I've run it a couple more times now...

Waiting to hear the word on the Battle Royale, which is supposed to be on Saturday... last I heard, only 3 people had turned in characters... two of those three being myself and Gabe... gotta find out if I'm gonna be kicking all kinds of butt on Saturday or not... :)

Gah... still another 10 days before real LARP... I'm suffering from withdrawal!

I would hereby like to downgrade "The Addiction" from very. good. movie. to very. weird. movie.

Yes, most of it was as I remembered it. But somehow, 5+ years makes a lot of difference. It's very much an indy art film... at the time I first watched it, I didn't know much about indy art films, and so I didn't see this movie for what it was. I was fully convinced that the final 15 minutes of the movie would have at least a little bit of ass-kicking. Sorry to spoil it for those who haven't seen it, but there is no ass-kicking. Christopher Walken (who has only a TINY role in the movie) does not come back as a righteous force of vengeance. *sigh*... that was what I was looking forward to.

Trust me, if I had to rewrite the movie, he would kick ass... a lot of ass, in fact.

So yeah... vampires, the nature of evil, and a healthy dose of nihilism at the end. Ehhh... I'd rather watch any of the vampire movies that I already own any day...

Here's hoping that Reality Bites doesn't suck too badly...

Well, we went for a while without hitting Blockbuster... but we had nothing better to do last night, so off to find movies to rent. We came home with Jerry Maguire, The Addiction, and Reality Bites.

So we watched Jerry Maguire last night, which I had never seen. I rather liked it. For some reason, the preview had given me the impression that it would be Tom Cruise, acting cocky, and being on top of the world. But it's very much NOT like that... which is, I think, the reason I enjoyed it so much! :)

I'll say more about the other movies when we watch them, but I do have this to say about The Addiction... I have seen all but the last 15 minutes of this movie, though I didn't miss those 15 minutes by my own choice... the last time I rented it, way back in the land of K-hell (I mean Kirksville), the tape was messed up, and couldn't play the last 15 minutes. Ever since then, I've always had a hard time finding this movie. In fact, I think this was the first time since we started going to Blockbuster regularly that it was on the shelf... very. good. movie. At least what I've seen of it... :)

Oh, in case you were wondering, it's a vampire movie... it's in black and white... it's got Lili Taylor and Christopher Walken in it... (the former is the main character, the latter is barely in it... but Christopher Walken ROCKS...)... well worth renting! :)

Okay, I've got work to do now...

I just discovered that ScaryWhiteGirl.net turns 1 year old next Tuesday. My blog turns 1 about a month and a half after that. Well, there's gotta be something special for that! :)

So yeah, I've renewed my domain name for the next two years. I really wanted to go for 5, but that cost twice as much (it's a MUCH better deal for 5 years!)... so I've got it for the next two, and then when that rolls around, we'll probably go with the 5 year renewal... :)

That's all for now, still working (sporadically at least)...

Well, I'm back! :) My desk is piled high with stuff to work on, so I won't be really updating for a little while longer... but the summary of my Christmas break: lots of sleeping in, lots of staying up WAY past my bedtime, lots of sitting around and being lazy... and that about covers it... :)

And on the gaming front, something interesting for Dani during the (OWBN) anniversary of the Week of Nightmares, but let's not talk about that at the moment... :)
