Random ramblings cuz I have nothing better to do... or something... :)
This is the site formerly known as Anneke's Haven. Within, you will find information about my previous White Wolf chronicles, and other random gaming related stuff. I also have a blog here, where I talk about pretty much everything and anything, though it's primarily about my exciting life... the definition of exciting definitely being up for debate.
Enjoy your visit, and come back soon!
La la la... nothing exciting going on at the moment... I won my 3rd match now, and then lost my 4th match... *sigh*... I'm really crappy at putting... among other things...
I hate it when it starts getting really muggy and still, but not quite hot enough to turn on the AC... it seems ridiculous to me to turn on the AC before June... maybe even later... though that's probably because my dad was generally against EVER turning the AC on... we need to find an 18" box fan for the living room window... unfortunately, most box fans are 20"... but if we can find one, then we can have a fan in the living room, bedroom, and computer room, which should keep the place decently cool for the next month or so...
Well, I suppose I can accomplish a bit more work before lunch... :)
Yeah, I realized I hadn't posted today... I'm still not feeling well, though it doesn't seem to be allergies now... *sigh*...
Wrestling last night was better, mainly because my prediction was almost true... I knew that Bischoff screwing up so much wasn't going to go completely unnoticed... and, as a side note, Linda McMahon rocks... :) And the Hurricane Helms / Chief Morely match was definitely kewl... :)
For tonight, probably more PS2... I won my 2nd match with my character, and then Gabe stomped me when we played each other... 7 under par... ridiculous!
Too groggy for the Monday Mission... don't you just love spring, and all the allergens that come with it? Gabe has a sore throat, and I have a fuzzy head... I'm doing okay concentrating on my typing for work, but anything that requires much creative thought is pretty sad... it's taking a lot of concentration to type this entry right now... :(
At least it's approaching 2, already, so there's not much work left... still, I'd much rather be at home, playing PS2... this is actually the first video game system that I have ever (partially) had... (partially, cuz it's Gabe's b-day present, a couple of weeks early...) before this, it's all been computers... my dad was a firm believer in getting us to play computer games, rather than shelling out money for a video game system... oh, it sucked mightily when we were kids, but I guess it's okay, in the end... I probably know a lot more about computers than I would have otherwise... :)
But yeah... the funny part is that I play Tiger Woods Golf, of all things... I don't even like golf! But I did decently well when I played it against Gabe and his brother on Christmas, so I keep playing it... I played really awful last night, but at least I made a little money to up my character's stats... the characters you have to start with in the tournament mode SUCK... but somebody has to play it, so we can unlock Hamish for Gabe... so he can play golf in a kilt... :)
Nah, not doing the Friday Five... sometimes I like it, sometimes I don't...
Smackdown last night was good... though I had found out earlier in the day that Jeff Hardy had been released, because he wanted to be... I did a little more digging around about that this morning, and it seems he wants to work on his music career instead of wrestling... hmmm... sounds kewl, I suppose... I just hope he likes good music, so that he makes good music... :)
Tonight is a Friday without game... whatever will we do? :)
Well, last night was fun! :) We watched "Everyone Says I Love You" last night... really funny and cute Woody Allen musical... definitely worth renting... even if it is one of those musicals where people start singing for no good reason... ;)
After that, we went to a lecture on campus about pottery inspired by the finds at Pompeii and Herculaneum... vaguely interesting, at least... and as I remembered that the boyz would be upstairs playing Marvel, we ran by and said hi to them as well... and of course talked game... :)
It's been pretty cold in the mornings lately, but they refilled the pond near the library (it's an artificial pond, that they drain in the winter and such), so I get to see ducks every morning when I walk to work now... the count for this morning: four ducks... all swimming... how cute! :)
Eric Bischoff keeps messing stuff up on Raw... he's "fired" Stone Cold (huh?), J.R., and now Lita... last night there were SIX matches, one of which was a jobber match, and another of which only lasted... oh... 10-15 seconds... I didn't even watch the opening match, finding "All Flesh Must Be Eaten" much more interesting... I didn't really watch the final match either (though that was due to my disappointment that Shawn Michaels was wearing snap-up sweats, rather than the old tiny little shorts he used to wear when ref-ing... :) )...
So my theory is this: it's all an angle... they're having Bischoff do stupid shit, making his show suck, so that someone (dear god, ANYONE) could do a better job than him... and they (they being the McMahon family, in one guise or another) will replace him with someone else...
1. Now that the weather (in America, that is) is getting nice and warm, what have you been looking forward to doing the most? Mostly just being able to wear my spring/summer clothes. I have lots of good spring/summer clothes for work, that have been just hanging in my closet for ages. :( Oh, and wearing sandals... I was sooo tired of wearing the same shoes every day!
2. On Easter, I had to run around all day visiting family. It turned what was supposed to be a special day and turned me into one big stress-ball. Do you enjoy spending time with your family (parents, siblings, etc.) or do you prefer to see them now and then? Generally, I prefer to see them now and then. Megan is an exception to that... for one, it's hard to avoid seeing her (since we live in the same town and game together), but for another, she's fun... :)
3. Did your parents play along with the whole "Easter Bunny" legend? Did you eventually figure it out or did someone tell you? How did that make you feel? *sigh*... my parents didn't tell me till I was like 10 or so... I thought they were lying to me, and cried about it... I was such a wussy child... :)
4. This isn't necessarily a religious question (although it certainly can be if you'd like), but what does "Easter" mean to you personally? CANDY! And, oddly enough, I didn't get much this year... :(
5. When I was a kid, we didn't have plastic Easter Eggs (except for those that came with Mom's L'eggs pantyhose), so we always hid real eggs. One Easter I remember I threw away a broken egg in my bedroom trash can and it took me weeks before I realized why my room smelled like something died in there. Do you have any funny or memorable Easter stories? I don't actually remember this, but apparently when I was really little, my grandma had an Easter egg hunt with real eggs. On the way home, my basket got dumped over, and my parents had to put my eggs back in the basket when we got home. They missed one, however, and had to keep hunting for it as the backseat of the car got more and more rank smelling. They eventually found it. :)
6. I currently watch way, way too many TV shows. In fact, I feel some relief that some are being cancelled or are ending because I just can't give any of them up. Is there anything you do too much of and just can't stop? Yeah, I probably play the Sims way too much... :)
7. Long ago, I took a leadership seminar. At one point the leader gave his philosphy on life: the three things that matter most in life are "your family, your religion and your job, and what they mean to you." Would you agree? What are the three things that matter most in life? Hmmm... I don't agree with what that leader picked, per se... if it were stated as "your loved ones, your beliefs, and your job," I could probably agree with it...

Well... "House of 1000 Corpses" came to C-dale on Friday, so we all scrambled to go see it last night... now, I'm not a big horror movie fan. But it's Rob Zombie, so I wanted to see this. Honestly, I wasn't really all that impressed. The plot can seriously be summed up as "Four teenagers get lost out in the country, and are brutally murdered." The "brutally murdered" part takes up the bulk of the movie... and what fun is that? Usually, movies give me at least an idea or two for game, or writing, or something... but I got nothing out of this one... :( Just a few really kewl cinematography effects, that may or may not work for our eventual movie... :(
Nah, I don't feel like doing the Friday Five this week...
Wrestling last night was sooooo much better than Monday! I think that with very few exceptions, most of the wrestlers that I really like are on Smackdown anyway... hopefully Raw will improve though, cuz there's not much lower it can go... *sigh*...
This week, it's two for the price of one on the End of the Work Week Wisdom!
"You who have never committed ritual suicide in your life!" --from Eric the Viking
"We're world famous in Belgium." --from Singles
Both from movies that we were thinking about renting the other night, but "Eric the Viking" was out, and "Singles" is pretty silly... :)
So Gabe taped "Se7en" over the summer, and we just finally got around to watching it... I had seen it before, once, but that was in the Little Theatre in Kirksville, and the sound quality was AWFUL... so I really didn't get a whole lot out of the movie... this time was much better...
But, I had thoroughly convinced myself that the whole reason that Kevin Spacey's character was doing this was to get back at Brad Pitt's character, for having put him in jail a long time ago... apparently this is some other movie... any clue what I'm talking about, or am I officially cracked? :) I wouldn't doubt it, at any rate! :)
Pretty busy at work, I suppose... but at least the internet is working! :)
We finished watching "Soylent Green" in class this morning... it was okay... very clearly dated, but still okay... I don't mind _some_ older movies, even if they do show their age... I've just never been able to get into the "classics," particularly movies from earlier than the 60s... :)
And Gabe finished watching "Ernest Goes to Camp" last night, but I was playing on my computer and doing dishes... I could still picture all of the action, even without watching it... :)
But in more important news... Worst. RAW. Ever. No really... there were like five matches, and only a few of them were somewhat entertaining... the majority of the show was people talking... and while some of that was a little bit amusing, most of it just sucked... I've said it before, and I'll say it again... I hate Bischoff...
I also remembered last night that I hate Kevin Nash, from when he booked himself to beat Goldberg a couple of years ago... and just his booking in general, really... hopefully that won't be a problem in WWE...
Any rate, Smackdown is far better... Stephie rocks! :) Plus, they have Rey Mysterio and Edge... what more could ya want? :)
1. When I was a kid, I used to always get Strep Throat. I seemed to get it every year. Are there any illnesses that you seem more susceptible to than others? Wow, did I write this question? Ummm... yeah, I used to get Strep Throat all the time, about until I went to college... now, it's sinus infections, though I haven't (*knock on wood*) had one for a while!
2. A recent poll stated that "Michael" and "Ashley" are the number one baby names in New York. (However, in Oklahoma it seems like there are two or three girls named "Madison" everywhere you go). What are your favorite boy and girl names? What names do you think are trendy or overused? If you have children, would you give them the same name if you had another chance? Just about everything that parents are naming kids now gets overused... it's all the "odd" names... it's a shame, too, because otherwise, I think Morgan would be a great name for a girl... at any rate, though, I know if I ever have a daughter, I want to name her Emilia... dunno what I'd name a son though...
3. Any current songs on the radio (or elsewhere) that you think are pure crap? Why don't you like it? We should rephrase this question "Any current songs on the radio that you DON'T think are pure crap?" And yes, there are a couple... I'm not sick of Evanescence yet... :)
4. I used to play the trumpet in High School. I was never very good and always seemed to be last chair. I tried to play it again last week and it was a pretty sad sight. Can you (now or in your youth) play any musical instruments? Do you still play? I played flute for about 4 years, but I hated it, and wasn't good at it. I sorta taught myself keyboard and guitar, but I'm not very good at either... I want to learn bass, but I don't really think I have the patience/dedication to try to learn an instrument...
5. What is the most recent self-improvement program (fitness, weight loss, learning something new) that you began? Did you stick with it? Why or why not? Ummm... I don't think I have any... other than walking to and from work...
6. How would you look in a Hooters uniform? (- provided by Hootress) Okay, I suppose...
7. Have you ever had a dream where you interacted with a celebrity (sex or otherwise)? What happened? - provided by Kat Lively Not that I can remember... mostly my dreams involve people I actually know...
::..::
Not much on the movie front at the moment... been too busy staying out WAY past my bedtime, and sleeping all day... :) We started to watch "Ernest Goes to Camp" last night, but decided that going to bed was a much better idea... it's amazing how much of that movie I remember... then again, it was one of my favorites as a kid! :) Might finish watching it tonight... dunno yet...
Well, thanks to the recommendations of several people on here, we rented "24 Hour Party People"... that was really kewl! Though I was a bit confused when, at the middle of the movie, it seemed like it was already ready to be over... weird... :) Anyways, I've decided I need to get some Joy Division... :) I had "Love Will Tear Us Apart" stuck in my head this morning, and then Gabe started humming it... it's just so catchy! :)
And then, in class today, we started watching "Soylent Green"... never saw it before, but I'm liking it... it's kinda amusing... :) I like watching movies in class... they make the class go a lot faster... gah... I'm such an American... short attention span and all that... what was I talking about again? ;)
Actually, we were gonna watch "Suspiria" last night, but the tape we rented was screwed up... so we'll be taking that back today, and hopefully getting something different to replace it... what sucks, though, is that BB used to have the box for the unrated "Suspiria," but then they took that off the shelf (probably cuz it got stolen or something)... now the rated version is screwed up... joy...
Pictures, coming as soon as I can scan them... including the most important lesson of them all: "Why you should not dance while drunk"... oh... people are gonna wanna kill me for that one... :)
It's amazing how well pictures will come out when you take them, with a flash, under a black light... I don't even think we had any red eye in those! :)
Well, I was gonna get back to work... but the Top 5 Tuesday is interesting today! :)
"Today we are going with a reader submission as a topic. Amy has suggested the very cool Top 5 Greatest Hits Albums. These are a completely different animal than an official album release; in some cases these hits albums contain all the songs that most people will ever hear from a certain band. This can lead to fantastic new discoveries when you actually search out the full records that each of these hits came from and listen to that as a complete entity. This has happened to me on a few occasions and i have been more than stoked to expand my listening horizons. So, enough ramblin', and onto the list."
Top 5 Greatest Hits Albums 1. "Standing on the Beach - The Singles" (The Cure) - this one also goes by another name, which I can't recall at the moment... it all depended on whether you bought the tape or CD... I've owned both... :) Anyways, this is the early singles of the Cure... with stuff like "Why Can't I Be You?" and "Hot! Hot! Hot!"...
2. "Galore" (The Cure) - yeah, I'm putting two Cure greatest hits albums on here... cuz I love the Cure... this one is more of a greatest hits, and gets further into the Cure's career. So this one has stuff like "Friday I'm in Love"...
3. "Decade" (Duran Duran) - I was such a big Duran Duran fan when I was a kid, and "Seven and the Ragged Tiger" was one of the first tapes I owned... I still love listening to Duran Duran... pretty much anything they've ever put out! :)
4. "Eponymous" (R.E.M.) - pretty much all of the good early R.E.M. songs... and really, when it comes down to it, that was when they wrote all of their good stuff anyway! :)
5. "Catching Up with Depeche Mode" (Depeche Mode) - this is another one of those greatest hits albums that was put out early in the career of the band in question, and thus doesn't have all of their good songs on it. But it's great for old school (like early 80s) Depeche Mode...
Of course, this is only based on the ones I own... I would imagine that I would really like "The Least Worst of" (Type O Negative), if I ever heard it... and if NIN had a greatest hits, that would go on the list as well... this list pretty much just covers what I listened to in high school and undergrad... those four bands, and others like them... :)
Just taking a short break from working this morning to say hi... :) And counting down the days till I (hopefull) get to see "House of 1000 Corpses"... provided that it opens in C-dale (or Marion, for that matter)... just hoping it opens somewhere closer than St. Louis!
Oh, and totally wishing the semester was over already... not like I have to do a lot of work, with my one class, that I'm auditing, but going to class sucks... and Gabe has a TON of stuff to get done before the end of the semester... :( So it will be much nicer when the semester is over, and all (or a lot of) the students leave, and C-dale is quiet once again... :)
And when it decides to be spring for real... that will be nice as well... it shouldn't be near freezing at night in APRIL... and they've got snow in Chicago... *sigh*... bizarre Illinois weather, I suppose...
Back at work, though not really working yet... it's still early though, right? :)
So after a recommendation on Saturday, we rented "Salem's Lot" yesterday, and watched it last night. Not bad at all, despite having been made when I was a small child. There were at least four points at which I honestly jumped out of my seat... and at least one of those got Gabe as well... :)
Aside from that, all I have to say is that if you haven't seen the Parthenon in Nashville, you should definitely go... it is well worth the trip! :)
1. How many houses/apartments have you lived in throughout your life? Okay, let's see here...
First was the house I grew up in... lived there for a long time...
Next (not counting the dorms) was the apartment on the square... that place was awesome... great big HUGE living room (24 feet by 30 feet... no, I'm serious... that big...)
Then the apartment at Southern Hills... icky non-carpeted nonsense...
Then the apartment near Denny's (that's the best way I've ever been able to describe it)...
Then the house in Murphysboro...
And now my apartment near campus...
2. Which was your favorite and why? I think the apartment on the square, when I lived in Kirksville... it was close enough to school to walk or ride my bike, it was right by a lot of kewl stuff, and it was frickin' huge! I also like my current apartment, because it's close to EVERYTHING, but it's a little dinky... I'm still trying to figure out how to make more space in there, but I think we just have too much junk! :(
3. Do you find moving house more exciting or stressful? Why? It is somewhat stressful, but I like it as well... just as long as I don't have to move too often, I'm usually okay with it. Every couple of years is okay, but much more than that I don't like...
4. What's more important, location or price? I've been really lucky to be able to have good locations at good prices, so I can't really say... though at the moment, I'm more inclined to go with location... when I found my current apartment, the location was SOOOO good that I didn't really care what it cost... :)
5. What features does your dream house have (pool, spa bath, big yard, etc.)? Definitely a big bathroom, with a big bathtub of one sort or another... and a decent sized kitchen as well, preferably with a separate dining area... and PLENTY of closets! Other than that, I like basements, but nice ones are rare in this area... the water table is too high... so I can do without a basement if I have to...

End of the Work Week Wisdom:
"When in doubt, follow your fish." --It's probably not technically a quote, but it's in theEINTKILFS(Everything I needed to know I learned from Sandman) list...
Fish?
Quack.

Time to work all day, then game tonight, then very little sleep before our bus trip to Nashville... w00t! :)
Nope, haven't been posting much lately... nope, no good reason for that... just haven't had a whole lot to say on here... :) Life progresses as usual--work, school (sorta), and game... and computer games in the off time... :)
The Sims Creator is too much fun... I'm thinking I might download some of the backgrounds from Infinite Fish, if it still exists, and use them for patterns for clothes... that would be wild... :) They make good wallpapers and floor tiles as well... :) I have this horrible feeling that maybe I can fill up my hard drive, and not with music, as was one of my original thoughts... :)
Thinking of the computer reminds me that I need to go look at some printers... yes, I have one, but it won't print nicely lately... despite the fact that I've fed it new ink cartridges... it is old, though, so that is probably the problem... either that, or there's a compatibility problem of some sort with the the new computer... probably not, though, since I was having this problem with the laptop as well... *sigh*...
Yeah, I just realized that I hadn't posted since Friday... bad Dawn... it's not entirely my fault, though... I was home on Monday, and I never blog from home (which is odd)... and today, when I tried to blog, it wouldn't let me.
Super busy at work, with the second proof sheets on the upcoming volumes... due out this summer... yeah... get 'em while they're hot... :)
Ummm... movies... well, Jess and Chris were sweethearts and sent me "The Professional" for my b-day, so we watched that last night... good as always. Tonight, Gabe watched "Zombie," but I declined to watch it, because the back of the case talks about someone getting their eye put out... and I don't deal well with any idea of eye trauma... just a weird phobia of mine... so yeah... he got to watch that one on his own... from what I heard of the dialogue, I don't think I missed a lot... but then again, I'm not a big horror flick fan...
