Random ramblings cuz I have nothing better to do... or something... :)
This is the site formerly known as Anneke's Haven. Within, you will find information about my previous White Wolf chronicles, and other random gaming related stuff. I also have a blog here, where I talk about pretty much everything and anything, though it's primarily about my exciting life... the definition of exciting definitely being up for debate.
Enjoy your visit, and come back soon!
Oh, this is weird... the Blogger set-up changed, a LOT...
Okay, anyways... yes, I'm alive... :) My allergies have once again been kicking my ass, however, intermittently at least...
We saw "28 Days Later" on Friday night... and it was VERY good... yeah, the ending was a little cheezy, but it wasn't horrible or anything...
And we watched "The Mists of Avalon" and "Titan A.E." last night... I hadn't seen "The Mists of Avalon," even though it was a TV movie... I liked it a lot, even though I haven't read the book it's based on. As for "Titan A.E.," I had seen that before, but Gabe hadn't... and he liked it, as I suspected he would... :)
Anyway, this is a 4-day work week, which will be nice...
Sometimes I just feel the need to start off the day like that... :)
Though really, at the moment, this is simply a ploy to get my archives back up... we'll see if that works... (yeah right)... my archives are the hardest part of this blog to maintain, and I don't even have to do anything to maintain them, theoretically...
Wow, I've gotten quite a bit done this morning... just taking a few minutes now before going to eat lunch... :)
Wrestling last night was pretty good... a nice long tribute to Mick Foley in the middle of the show made me quite happy... I'll probably break out my Foley T-shirt to wear after work... :)
Oh, but Kane seems to have changed again... see, first, Kane was Glen Jacobs... who used to be Isaac Yankem. Then, one night last fall (I think), we were watching wrestling at Thor and Cindy's old place, and noticed that Kane didn't look the same any more... so we sorta watched him for a while, and figured out that it was probably Brian Adams... but last night, when he took the mask off, it definitely wasn't either of the two previous Kane's (assuming that Brian Adams was Kane for a while, which I think he was)... and none of us have ANY clue who this new Kane is... which is utterly bizarre, when you add up the collective wrestling knowledge of the wrestling watching group... :)
So I suppose I'll have to look into that later on... *sigh*... :)
When boredom strikes, answer it with comic book movies! :)
We rented "Spider Man" and "X-Men" last night, and already watched both of them... :) And of course, they were just as good as they've always been...
The only thing I'm annoyed about is that we had to get "X-Men 1.5"... which, as best as I was able to determine, doesn't have the same "easter eggs" as the original DVD release had... in particular, I really wanted Gabe to get to see the "running down a hall" easter egg (which I am calling that because I don't wanna ruin the surprise about it... though I already told him what happens!)... DVD Easter Eggs only seems to list how to get to it on the original DVD, but nothing about "1.5"... *sigh*...
Ah well... back at work for another fun-filled and exciting week... it's gonna be a busy one... *sigh*...
1. Is your hair naturally curly, wavy, or straight? Long or short? It's naturally wavy, which is possibly the most annoying type of hair to have... particularly when it is resistant to being straight, and won't hold a curl... As for length, it's in between right now... just reaching my shoulders, or a little past...
2. How has your hair changed over your lifetime? My hair was a lot straighter when I was young (though it still wouldn't hold a curl). My mom let me grow my hair out till I was in kindergarten, and then it was short for pretty much all of grade school... the only time I had it really long since kindergarten was after high school, until I was a junior in college... it got to be about 3 feet long (from the top of my head to the ends of my hair), and then I had my friend cut about 14 inches off in one day... :)
3. How do your normally wear your hair? Now that it's getting long enough to do so again, I wear it pulled back just about every day... I used to put it in a ponytail, but now it's long enough that I can use my claw hairclip thingies... so it's either in a claw-held ponytail, or twisted up and clipped to the back of my head...
4. If you could change your hair this minute, what would it look like? Straight, and purple... :) And probably longer, too... at least as long as Gabe's... :)
5. Ever had a hair disaster? What happened? Yes, I am no longer allowed to attempt to give myself bangs... I've had two disasters with that... the first time I looked like Wesley Crusher, and the second time, I had about a third of my hair turned into bangs... the sad part is that it's usually small children who give themselves bangs and mess up their hair; for me, it was in college... :)
::..::
Nope, no "End of the Work Week Wisdom"... sorry! :)
And not much else to say, either... the link from yesterday was because I found a lot of bands that I like listed on that site, with information about albums they had put out... seeing as most of the bands were ones I found on compilations, this is useful to me... :)
But they still don't list The Morgans / Lucyfix... and I'm still trying to track those girls down!
That's how long it took me to finish typing Grant's Memoirs... betcha it took him a lot longer to write them... :)
Now I get to start bringing my laptop to work, and reviewing what I typed by comparing it with the microfilm... ugh... I hate microfilm... if this seems to go really slow, though, I'll probably stop and just start printing out pages for people to proofread... anyways, they'll probably have to proof the pages from microfilm anyway!
Okay, I have a little less than two hours to kill now... ugh...
Hmmm... wrestling last night was mostly tolerable... not great, by any means, but mostly tolerable...
Tonight, going out with Cindy and Shannon for a little while, cuz it's Shannon's b-day... not gonna stay out too late, or I'll be tired as hell tomorrow... and that's no good...
I should go start working on the subject files now... but it's really tempting to stay at my desk and do other stuff... which would be mostly slacking off... :) But no, I'll probably go start working here shortly... everyone else is finally getting in to the office, now... it's only 20 after 8... I've been here for 35 minutes already!
Monday Mission isn't up yet... guess I'm just ready for it a little too early on Mondays... :)
Got some stuff to work on, but I thought I'd write here first... :)
The weekend was rather good... and we watched a couple of movies, as always... :)
First one was "A Life Less Ordinary"... I had always figured it was just a basic love story type movie... that was based on the cover, which just shows Ewan (in a god-awful shirt) and Cameron locking lips... but it's not exactly what I expected... it's WAY better... :) Very cute... and Ewan sings... which I love! Ewan should definitely sing more often... he's rather good at it! :)
The other movie we watched was "Batman"... yeah, when Michael Keaton was Batman... hadn't seen it for YEARS... it's still a good movie, though... a little dated, sure, but I like it anyways... :)
So yeah, that's about it... working all week, though the boss is out of town... but I've got a project that I should be doing... I just think it's gonna take a little longer than I expected... *sigh*...
Dude! Big Show and Brock Lesner off the top(ish) rope, and the ring collapses! Though we called it... there's no way those ropes could support almost 900 pounds...
Okay, this is bizarre... I'm looking for articles to link to, and can't find ANY... that's just bizarre... unfortunately, I don't keep track of the wrestling rumor sites, so I don't even know where to start looking other than google... :)
Anyways, dunno what our plans are for tonight, at the moment... waiting to hear from Thor and Cindy about how Thor is doing... hopefully well! :) Tomorrow night is game, and, again, hopefully Thor will be feeling okay...
Not much else to report, at the moment... just working, and being glad it's Friday!
I've noticed when I look at my site stats that a lot of people come here looking for Sims skins... sorry, folks, none here... BUT... I can help you out with finding some...
Whether you use LJ or not, check out The Sims LJ Community... on the userinfo page, there are a TON of links... some are to pay sites, but a lot are free sites...
And for my favorite site, check out The Sims Resource... it is a pay site, but if you register, a small portion of the stuff is available for free... and it rotates every three days... so you may not have access to everything, but if you have some time to kill, and don't mind sifting through the pages of free stuff, you can find some good skins... got two of the Misfits from there, and a lot of cute gothy clothes... :)
There are some other good ones, but they don't update all that often... but, if you check out The B List, you can see what's been updated recently... and that makes searching for new things a LOT easier...
Though, honestly, I haven't really been keeping up on downloads lately... since I haven't been playing The Sims much... between watching wrestling, game (and related meetings), and HeroClix, all of my time after work is pretty much eaten up... :)
Hmmm... I forgot to post this morning... how weird! :)
Not that I had much of anything exciting to say, really... I was thinking earlier today that tonight must be wrestling night, but I was wrong... that's tomorrow night... it's weird, though, because we didn't really watch much of Raw on Monday night... just the Mick Foley / Triple H match, which ROCKED... but then again, I'm a huge Mick Foley fan... :) He's absolutely nuts... and you have to respect that in a wrestler... :)
So yeah, last night was lots of chatting, until my damn computer just absolutely refused to get back online... it's actually the phone line that has problems... never works right when it rains... so I had been warning people all night that I might just disappear and not come back... but that was the fault of the phone line, not them... :)
And I've been trying to watch "Romeo+Juliet" while I go to sleep, but I keep falling asleep... *sigh*... I also get the sense that it might be similar to "Fight Club" in the disjointed-ness of the sound, cuz I wasn't able to get to sleep solidly until it was turned off...
Anyways... yeah... gotta figure out when I want to take my vacation this summer... and got to figure out if we're gonna go somewhere, or just stay in town... last summer, I stayed in town for my vacation (all except the day when I went to St. Louis to see TMBG)... and that was fun... but I also had a lot of stuff to get done that week... this summer, I probably won't have much to do... so going somewhere is a definite option...
I'd say New Orleans, but I really don't wanna deal with the heat... New Orleans is better in the spring, or maybe the fall... I wish SIU still closed for the week of Halloween... cuz that would rock if we could go to New Orleans then... :)
So if we do go anywhere this summer, it's probably gonna be local (as in 2-4 hour drive, probably)... and I don't have any good ideas... *sigh*...
Update on the ghetto/ghost stereo! Yog Sothoth was right; there was, in fact, a timer on the stereo, that had somehow been set, and gone off... the best guess is that in order for the timer to go off, the stereo has to be on... and since I rarely look at the thing, my guess is it had been left on, the timer had kicked on (probably right about midnight), and so Gabe walked in to lovely creepy music... :)
Damn, our apartment isn't haunted... I'll have to try harder to get a haunted apartment next time I go looking... :) Though that's not gonna happen for a while... I like my apartment being within walking distance of campus, and lots of good food... and I'd rather not move just yet, cuz moving is a pain...
So it practically looks like night time outside right now... it's gonna storm, and it's gonna be both soon and violent... poo... the good news is, while I'm on campus, it's highly doubtful that the power will go out... the bad news, of course, is that it is entirely possible for it to go out at home... I should probably call Gabe and get him to shut the computers down before it hits...
It also appears that it may rain for the entire next week... yuck... not only does this mean I'll have to get Gabe to drive me to and from work, it also means that I won't be able to get online from home (cuz our phone line goes to hell when it rains)... and that sucks super much for tonight, when my options are a) play the Sims, or b) get online and talk to people... I prefer the latter, only because it's slightly more entertaining... :)
Ah well, enough rambling and ranting for now... guess I'll work some more... I've already accomplished a reasonable amount, for having been here about an hour... :)
Monday Mission isn't up yet... I might catch it later... we shall see...
Had a generally good weekend... the highlight, aside from the movies, was that we got a few more boxes of HeroClix, and played a couple games of that... the conclusion: Cyclops is a bad, bad man... :) And playing with 2 big baddies against 5 or 6 little guys is a sure way to get the baddies killed off quick... :) But we now have a big piece of Lucite to go over the map! :) So that will make playing a whole lot easier!
As for movies, why yes, we watched a couple! :)
First one was "Comic Book Villians"... rather odd movie, but it was pretty funny... of course, there are two scenes that even a casual comic book reader/collector will practically cry about... one involves water, and the other involves fire... but that's all I want to say about that... :)
The other one was "The Cat's Meow"... and it was quite good! It's about the death of Thomas Ince, who was a 1920s movie mogul... the interesting part is that his death was at least allegedly related to his birthday weekend on William Randolph Hearst's boat... so you get to learn a lot about Hearst, and some of the other people that were on this trip... like Charlie Chaplin (played by Eddie Izzard... :) )... at any rate, it's a very good movie, and I highly recommend it... :)
It's time for "Dawn's really weird story of the week"... :)
So Tuesday night, Gabe went to play Marvel with the boys... this left me at home... I ended up online for about 3 hours or so, chatting with assorted friends, and randomly surfing... any rate, around 10:30, I decided to go to bed... put "Labyrinth" in the DVD player, and tried to go to sleep... took me a little while, but I finally fell asleep...
I wake up about quarter after 12... the end credits are rolling, and Gabe is home... and he comes into the bedroom to ask me why I had the stereo on if I was watching a movie... I'm half asleep, but I am at least coherent enough to say that I didn't have the stereo on, just the movie...
Okay, this is just plain weird... the stereo, which had been turned off, had come on, and started playing a CD... my first thought was that maybe, somehow, Gabe coming in to the apartment was enough to move the air to nudge the on button and the play button... even with our ghetto-fabulous stereo, sometimes you only have to press play once... but then he told me that it was on the 2nd track of the CD that was playing, right when he walked in the door... so that doesn't make sense...
I've never been known to sleepwalk, so the chances of me having turned it on are pretty slim... and it's not possible for anyone else to have come in and turned it on... so my best guesses are psychic powers, ghosts, or something really bizarre with air currents and such... *shrug*... in other words, no good explanation... :)
What's really creepy, though, is that the 2nd track on that CD (Cruxshadows, if you were curious) starts out with fairly creepy organ music... so that's what was playing when he walked in to the apartment... :)
Heh... okay, there's a site to generate poetry off of any URL... so, of course, I punched in this one... and here's what I got...
function get_comment_link 95080081
Add a
little
more difficult when my laptop... doing
nothing... which was also nice... : Wrestling
was nice... Wrestling
was fun...
Hehehehe... that's pretty cute... :)
Nothing else of interest at the moment... we watched "Pitch Black" last night, as I suspected we would... and Gabe thought it was alright... :) Oh, and duh... just looked up Claudia Black on IMDB... duh... she was Pandora in "Queen of the Damned"... :) And here I was, saying, "no, she was just in FarScape"... silly me... :)
Oh, and they ARE apparently maybe making a "Pitch Black 2"... weird... I can't remember where I had heard that before, but IMDB has a possible one listed, due out next year... bizarre... :)
Well, I fell asleep while watching "Labyrinth" last night... woke up right as it ended, only cuz Gabe got home then... :) Silly boys playing their silly games outside... :)
Gonna watch "Pitch Black" sometime this week... maybe tonight... dunno for sure yet... I've already seen it, but Gabe never has... it took a lot of convincing for the guys to get me to watch it, but I did... and liked it... so I imagine Gabe will like it as well... :)
Been working pretty steadily all morning... today, I have projects to work on that don't involve me being in my office, cuz our phone system is screwed up, and my boss has to use my phone if he gets any calls... which makes me have to go find something else to work on... so I've got all that already set up... damn, I'm efficient... :)
It's a good thing today is Wednesday... though, of course, I wish it were Friday already! :)
We watched it on Sunday night, and it was awesome! :) If you ever want to play a schizophrenic Malkavian, this could be a useful start to your preparations... definitely worth watching, regardless of your character intentions...
So let's see... weekend recap...
Friday night we ended up playing HeroClix, which was a lot of fun... for those who haven't heard of it, it's basically a miniatures game, where the miniatures are based on Marvel (or DC) comic characters... you get to pick characters to use based on their points (and everyone starts with the same number of points)... so I had Jean Grey, Scarlet Witch, and Wolfsbane... except that I had the Rookie Jean Grey, so that she didn't even have Telekinesis... hell, she didn't have any special powers at all! Still, though, I had fun with it... :) Then on Saturday, we of course had to go get some HeroClix of our own... :) We're up to 36 of them now... :)
Saturday game was pretty kewl... MUCH better than last week, though the repercussions may end up sucking greatly... *sigh*... but I'll get over it, I'm sure... :)
Sunday was basically a day for sleeping late, and doing nothing... which was nice... and then I was off yesterday, which was also nice... :) Wrestling was typical, but made good background noise for chit-chat and looking at HeroClix... and then Gabe got to make his character for Karac's Marvel game, which plays tonight... his character ended up pretty kewl, I think... :) Even though I don't know Marvel all that well, I was at least able to give him a couple of ideas... :)
