Random ramblings cuz I have nothing better to do... or something... :)
This is the site formerly known as Anneke's Haven. Within, you will find information about my previous White Wolf chronicles, and other random gaming related stuff. I also have a blog here, where I talk about pretty much everything and anything, though it's primarily about my exciting life... the definition of exciting definitely being up for debate.
Enjoy your visit, and come back soon!
There’s a crack in the mirror
And a bloodstain on the bed -
There’s a crack in the mirror
And a bloodstain on the bed -
O you were a vampire and baby
I’m walking dead
O you were a vampire and baby
I’m walking dead
I got the ways and means
To New Orleans
I’m going down by the river
Where it’s warm and green
I’m gonna have drink, and walk around
I got a lot to think about oh yeah
There’s a rocking chair by the window
Down the hall
I hear something there in the shadow
Down the hall
O you were a vampire and now I am
Nothing at all
O you were a vampire and now I am
Nothing at all
They used to dance in the garden in the
Middle of the night
They used to dance in the garden in the
Middle of the night
They were naked as the day they were
Born skin all bone-china white
O you were a vampire
And I may never see the light

Yeah... adios for a few... we're off to New Orleans for a long weekend, leaving on Thursday... but I'm off work tomorrow, so that's why I'm saying bye now... :)
Let's see here... Wal-Mart has a good collection of cheap horror movies, so we picked up "The Frighteners" on Saturday, and watched it later that day... I finally got to see the end of it... :) Good movie! :)
The interesting thing about this movie, though, is the cemetary in the opening scenes (and throughout the movie)... once upon a time, I was working on a Vampire chronicle that featured a cemetary that looked EXACTLY like the one in the movie... which is either another instance of me being far too involved in the collective unconscious, or I saw a part of the movie on TV once, and the image just stuck with me...
Well, I tried to get all fancy and change the look of my blog, but I can't figure out the code to get it how I want it... damn...
So I just updated a little of the sidebar, took down some empty links and stuff I didn't want on there anymore... it would be nice if I could shorten it more, but I like everything on there... guess I should just write more so it doesn't look so long!
Hurrah! My blog is back in business! Sorry for the bunch of useless posts, I just kept trying to get it to work... :)
So yeah, it's Friday... there is no Friday Five this week...
Tonight looks like we'll go see "The Shining" outside... hopefully it won't be too cold... :) Still waiting to see if anyone else is coming along, or if it will just be Gabe and I... but I should know shortly... :)
Okay, well, I'm just happy that my blog works again... back to work now...
We borrowed Karac's copy of "Boondock Saints," and finally got to watch the deleted scenes... (I can't remember why we didn't get to see them the first time... must have gotten the video...) funny stuff... :) And, of course, the movie is all kinds of good as well...
It's very difficult to concentrate on work when you know that one week from this moment, you'll be rapidly approaching New Orleans... I've already started checking their weather forecast... it's looking like lower 80s for the high, lower 60s for the low... I wish it would be cooler than that, but at least it's tolerable... :)
I keep thinking of more and more things I need to do... I should probably make a list at some point... but I'm too lazy to do it right now...
I'm gonna be writing my article on LARP costuming sooner or later... preferably sooner... maybe over the weekend, though that partially depends on whether or not Gabe has D&D on Saturday morning... if he doesn't, then we'll probably do something together... if he does, then I'll dye my hair and write... if I don't end up playing Civ instead... :)
Now, let's see if this will post... try sixty-billion...
Oh yeah... I still haven't said anything here about having seen "Underworld"...
Well, I dunno. It's a good movie, definitely worth seeing... and I'll probably end up buying it on DVD when it comes out... but, at the same time, it wasn't the best vampire movie I've ever seen (the jury is still partially out on that one)...
Costuming: good; lighting and sets: good; action: pretty good; acting: pretty good... plot? I dunno, maybe a bit predictable?
In other word, I really couldn't tell you exactly what I didn't like, but there was something about it that just didn't sit quite right with me... I think a big part of it was expecting more of a White Wolf ripoff, and then not getting it...
Anyways, I need to update the upcoming movie list, since a couple of the movies on there have been seen now... :)
Well... didn't get to watch wrestling last night, so I have no clue what happened in the Iron Man match... not a big deal, though, as I'm sure they'll show all the highlights of the match next week... :)
My feet are killing me right now, cuz of my new boots... they're very leather, and very rigid... but they'll get broken in sooner or later... hoping for sooner, as I really want to wear them in New Orleans... but if they don't soften up by then, I dunno what I'll do... *sigh*...
Wrestling last night was rather unimpressive, except for one thing...
The return of Lita... :) Hell yeah, my favorite female wrestler is back... :) And she's looking VERY good, both physically and as far as her performance goes... and the crowd was COMPLETELY behind her... I was quite pleased!
Oh, and Shane-O did go off the top rope onto Kane, through the announce table... I love it when he does that... :)
Aside from that, today is the busy day... work all day, then Marvel afterwards... we're starting the game off with combat... I'll be confused as hell, I'm sure... :)
Lots of movies this weekend, though most were repeats... :)
We went to see "Cabin Fever" on Friday night... color me not impressed... yes, there was some gore and such, but it was basically a rip-off of "Evil Dead" (or so my friends say... I really can't remember the plot of that movie too well...)
So after that, we went home and watched "Sneakers," which Gabe had never seen... I really like that movie, and have ever since Nate and I made it a part of "dead guy movie night"... which was us watching "The Crow" (Brandon Lee) and "Sneakers" (River Phoenix)... :)
And then last night, cuz we had nothing else to do, we went and rented "Hedwig and the Angry Inch" (again)... that movie is too much fun... :)
Other than that, the weekend was pretty normal... even with the Pig Out going on across the street, and the usual bunch of house parties in our neighborhood... I guess, really, that the former was the only oddity, as the latter happens every weekend... :)
So Marvel was last night, and I think it went really well... I'm tagging along with the team at the moment (having signed their waiver and all that), because they were investigating some odd stuff in the apartment building where my character lives... or I should say lived, as Gypsy teleported all of her stuff out of her apartment for her... :) That teleportation is some CRAZY stuff... :)
I even got to use my Elongation, and my TK... LOTS of TK... it's nice being able to lift a ton with your MIND! :)
And, sooner or later, I'll be able to shoot mind bullets... ;)
Hmmm... was wrestling on last night? I seem to have ignored most of it... :) Well, I was feeling a little fuzzy headed too, as I wasn't feeling all that well yesterday, but I'm much better now...
Marvel is tonight, which would be even kewler if I hadn't already been running around crazily for a while, and have to run around crazily after work as well... which reminds me, I still need to make a phone call... almost slipped my mind!
1. What housekeeping chore(s) do you hate doing the most? Heh... which ones do I NOT hate, is more like it! :) But among the things that I really hate is making the bed... my theory is that if you are just gonna sleep in it again in about 16 hours, why bother making it? So I don't! :) Dishes also suck, as does trying to clean the bathtub (I say TRYING, cuz it's very hard to do with the way our shower doors are set up)...
2. Are there any that you like or don't mind doing? I don't mind cleaning the mirrors, and the bathroom sink isn't too bad... and sweeping has always been fine with me... :)
3. Do you have a routine throughout the week or just clean as it's needed? Mostly just as it's needed, though much more gets done on Sunday (usually while the laundry is getting done) than any other day...
4. Do you have any odd cleaning/housekeeping quirks or rules? Most likely, I do, but I don't realize it... :)
5. What was the last thing you cleaned? Uhhh... ummm... oh, wait, I cleaned up the top of my sewing machine table this morning... there was a whole lot of clutter all over it... :)
::..::
I made my Marvel character last night, and she's kinda kewl... :) When Karac let me look at the powers table, there was very little that I actually wanted... he let me take Thermal Control without rolling it, so that I could at least do something that I wanted to be able to do... that power will let me raise and lower temperatures... the guys think this is kewl, cuz then I can air condition the team, so that they can wear trenchcoats year round... :)
I also got Heat / Fire Resistance, which will let me, more or less, stand in the middle of a fire and not really be affected... :)
Then I got Plasticity and Elongation... kinda like Mr. Fantastic... I wasn't so sure about those to begin with, but one of the things that Karac mentioned that I could do with it is use it for disguise... like rearranging my features... so I was all for it then... :)
And then my final power was Telekinesis... need I say more? :) I love TK... :)
So the character's name is Pyretta Blaze (blatant ripoff on my part), and she's an Altered Human... a horrible tragic tanning bed incident was what gave her her powers... :) Yes, it's kinda cheezy, but I'm just having fun with it... :) Anyways, the story is that she was horribly burned to a crisp, but something about whatever caused the accident also gave her super powers... she would be really disfigured, except the Plasticity let her fix herself up again... :)
The only downside to all of this, though, is that some of her stats and powers are penalized when her skin is exposed to bright light... like a normally lit room will mess her up... so she has to wear a whole lot of protective clothing... which is another reason why the "air conditioning" will come in handy... :) Anyways, that was something that I decided to do to her, cuz what fun is a character with no flaws at all? :)
So I'm really looking forward to my first game on Tuesday... it should be a blast... :) Now just to work out how I'm hooking up with the team... :)
Damn comments are still not working... I've looked into it, and they should theoretically be back any time now... I suppose...
Gabe was doing some searches for Ythill last night, and came across a reference which said that House of Leaves (by Mark Danielewski, who is the brother of the singer, Poe) is a good book for showing how Carcosa works... (this is all Cthulhu stuff... don't worry if it makes no sense to you!) so he's started reading it... I should read it too, one of these days... especially since it's been on my shelf for almost a year now... :)
Aside from that, we watched "Jawbreaker" last night... it was pretty funny and cute... I liked it a lot... though I have to say that I wouldn't believe that the dude in the bar was Marilyn Manson at first... he almost looked like a normal person... creepy, huh? :)
Not much else going on at the moment... my right wrist was itching really bad yesterday, right near where I have an old scar (I believe that was caused by Jordan, the son of a friend of a friend from college)... it was kinda odd that it just started bugging me out of the blue...
Not much to report from the weekend... it was pretty game-heavy, I guess... Gabe had a scene to get done, so that was done on Friday night... very very kewl, though I slept through a little of it... not much to say about it here though, as it's his scene, not mine... :)
Didn't watch any movies this weekend, though "Jawbreaker" is now sitting on my table, to be watched tomorrow, most likely... I've been told it's really good... :)
Assuming that Karac still wants me to join, it looks like I'm gonna be in the Marvel game... I think I've finally got my origin sorted out; now I just need to see if I can get the powers that I'm hoping for... even though I can't define those powers in Marvel terms... but that's due to my lack of knowledge, not necessarily the non-existence of said powers... :)
And Gabe's joining the Saturday D&D game... all that means to me is that I can drop him off on Saturday, and then go shopping... :) It means I don't have to drag him to the fabric store and/or GoodWill... :)
Well, once I get my Marvel character fully sorted out, maybe I'll post about her here... she already has a name... it'll just be funny if her name ends up having NOTHING to do with her powers... :)
