Random ramblings cuz I have nothing better to do... or something... :)
This is the site formerly known as Anneke's Haven. Within, you will find information about my previous White Wolf chronicles, and other random gaming related stuff. I also have a blog here, where I talk about pretty much everything and anything, though it's primarily about my exciting life... the definition of exciting definitely being up for debate.
Enjoy your visit, and come back soon!
Well, let's see here... we watched "Hellbound: Hellraiser 2" last night... maybe I'm jaded somehow, but I'm just not seeing the horror in badly acted, badly CGI-ed movies... unless the horrific part is supposed to be the bad acting... :) The Cenobites aren't even really all that scary... they just look weird, and can throw hooks at you... whee...
Yeah, I'm probably just jaded... :)
In other news, I'm going to be running a LARP again... it's not starting till January, which is good, cuz I have a ton of work to do before then... and I'm supposed to be running Turkey Madness on Friday, as per tradition... I suppose a plot for that might be nice... :) At least I found all of the character sheets! w00t! :)
I think that's really about all of the news of any worth at the moment... I'm only at work today and tomorrow, which is very nice... after that, I work for 3 full weeks, and then have 2 full weeks off... w00t! :)
Nah, the Friday Five will take too long this week... :p
And I would have End of the Work Week Wisdom, except we can't remember the line exactly right... and it's not on IMDB... ah well...
Have I ever mentioned that I tend to like goth covers of songs that I like... well, usually at least...
Then again, there are some covers I can't stand... T.A.T.U. doing "How Soon is Now," (The Smiths) and Evanescence doing "Heart Shaped Box" (Nirvana) come to mind... ooh, and Tori Amos doing "Lovesong" (The Cure)... that one pissed me off bad... there are just some songs that you don't need to cover... and there are some songs that certain bands don't need to cover...
Let's take T.A.T.U. for example... I'm not inherently opposed to people covering "How Soon is Now"... after all, I'm pretty sure it was a cover that they used for the theme song for "Charmed," and I recall liking the Snake River Conspiracy cover... but T.A.T.U.?! First off, they said they had never ever heard the song till their manager told them it would be a good song to cover... second, I don't think they get it... the lyrics are "I am the son and the heir"... last time I checked, cute little Russian girls weren't anyone's son... and third... ick... it just sounds so bad... it made me want to hurt someone... and I doubt that's what they were going for...
Then Evanescence... okay, I actually like some of their stuff, though it gets overplayed... but Nirvana is one of those bands that people shouldn't cover their stuff (come to think of it, I don't like Tori Amos's cover of "Smells Like Teen Spirit" either)... and "Heart Shaped Box" is one of my favorite Nirvana songs, too... it just sounds sooooo wrong for Amy Lee to sing it...
And then Tori Amos... when it comes down to it, I think the only covers that she's done that I really liked were "Daniel" (Elton John) and "A Little Help from My Friends" (Beatles)... I think it's because she stayed fairly true to the tempo and mood of the song... whereas she makes "Lovesong" and "Smells Like Teen Spirit" unnecessarily depressing... yes, "Lovesong" is already pretty depressing... but there is a point where it gets TOO depressing, and Tori crosses that...
Of course, I'm writing this as I listen to Girls Under Glass's cover of "Frozen" (Madonna), and Tricky's cover of "The Love Cats" (The Cure)... I like these two... it's just something about the way they're done...
First was "Romper Stomper", which is a relatively old (1992), very Australian movie with Russell Crowe in it... it wasn't bad, just very odd... there was a really good quote in it, too, but IMDB doesn't have any memorable quotes for that movie... we'll have to watch it again and write it down... :)
Second was "Hellraiser"... which was very very cheesy, to me at least... I mean, the only thing about it that might have scared me had I seen it at an earlier date would have been the blood... and it's not like gory bloody, there's just blood... meh... I pretty much laughed at it... and marveled at how many of the lines from that movie (Pinhead, mostly) I had heard in other contexts...
So yeah... I guess now I'm gonna have to see more Hellraiser movies to see if they get any scarier... doubt it though...
I've got my boom box at work now, and it's making work so much nicer... I've settled into a nice little routine, too... whatever CD goes in first ends up getting played twice... mainly cuz I'm still waking up during the first run through... after that, something else goes in before lunch... sometimes it gets finished or replayed after lunch, though most days, I've been going to the Cruxshadows new CD right after lunch (which, unfortunately, is in the CD player at home today)... depending on how the afternoon goes, I either swap out CDs all afternoon, or just stick Transcendental Anarchists (which is ambient techno-ish stuff) in there for the whole afternoon...
Transcendental Anarchists is probably the best CD I've got for listening to at work... there's no words, so it can't really offend anyone... it's relatively quiet, so it shouldn't bother anyone else's concentration, and it's just peppy enough to keep me going... I like it... and to think, I found it for $1, when I was in Arizona... definite steal... :)
Speaking of the new Cruxshadows, it's awesome... for some reason, "Winter Born" is the song that I really really like, but "Cassandra," "Citadel," and the hidden track (the name of which I can never remember) are other favorites... the lyrics are really good, as always... the only regret I have is that they felt the need to mess with Rogue's voice, making it sound kinda fuzzy/digitized/I don't know how to describe it... basically, non-clear... he has a really good voice; they should just let it be clear...
I'm chugging away at cards, but not getting much done... obviously, can't type cards and this at the same time... so I should stop now... :)
We went and saw "Master and Commander" last night... very good movie... I'm very much in awe of how good it looked... there were a lot of scenes that appeared to be filmed out in the middle of the ocean, but there's no logical way they could have done so... very cool!
Definitely looks like there will be a sequel or twelve... the book that this movie was based on is the 10th in a series... :)
Preview-wise... there's a new Denzel Washington movie, set in Mexico City, also featuring the little girl from "I am Sam"... the preview opened with "There have been 24 kidnappings in Mexico City in the past 6 days" (or something along those lines)... Gabe and I were both immediately thinking Sabbat... of course... :) But this one can probably wait for video... :)
I'm getting tired of seeing the same preview for "The Last Samurai" every time I go to the movies... give me some variety, people... :)
I have no desire whatsoever to see "The Day after Tomorrow" or whatever it's called... it's another apocalyptic weather disaster movie... blah...
I think there was probably another preview, but I've forgotten it... *shrug*...
Blah... it's Friday, most of the office is out, I have music playing... it should be a good day...
I've just got way too much game crap on my mind... *grumble*... stupid adminstrative crap, too, not good RP heavy stuff... I could deal with the latter, but the former is driving me batty...
This is what a melting ice cream cone must feel like... blech...
It's approximately 90 degrees in my office... I say approximate, cuz I don't have a thermometer in here... but another woman with an office on our floor says 91, and the thermometer in the next office says 87... yeah...
The good news, I suppose, is that we're expecting a huge cold front tonight, and will probably be pleased for the heat in the morning...
But for now, I just wanna go home... :( I would, too, if I hadn't been out sick yesterday, and have half a day off tomorrow... :(
*whimper*
Don't mind the Dawn-shaped puddle on the ground, that's just what's left of me... :(
Brad Pitt is Achilles
Eric Bana (Hulk) is Hector
Orlando Bloom is Paris
Sean Bean is Odysseus
Brian Cox (Stryker in X2) is Agamemnon
Tyler Mane (Sabretooth in X-Men) is Ajax
The funny thing is that Helen is actually somebody who's been in like 5 movies, all French... more or less a no name for most American theater-goers...
Ugh... Gabe is sick, and I'm leaning in that way also... :(
We saw "Matrix: Revolutions" on Friday night... it was not nearly as bad as we were anticipating, but it still wasn't that good... or, rather, it was pretty good, until about the last 15-30 minutes of the movie... I can't say where the movie turned bad, cuz that would sorta spoil it for those who haven't seen it yet... :)
The previews, though, were incredibly kewl... "Troy" is gonna rock a lot, and of course "Return of the King" will be good... can't remember the other ones, meaning those were probably the only two worthwhile previews... :)
Well, we're going to see "Revolutions" tonight... oh joy...
Jim (of the Highlander variety) saw it already, and last night he said something along the lines of: "Words cannot describe how bad it was ... but I'll try..." and then started listing off words, in alphabetical order, that described the suckiness... best one was "blows goats for nickels," though his version was much longer... :)
Ah well, it's only $6.50 a piece, and 2+ hours of our lives, right? :|
Well, I didn't really have a Halloween costume this year, but I did get all dressed up as Magenta, from "Rocky Horror Picture Show," for the midnight showing on Saturday night... pictures when I get them... Gabe was Riff Raff, and Megan was Columbia... we also all got drafted for the "live" version... I had forgotten how much fun that can be! :)
I'd love to do it again next year, with a little advance warning, so that I can actually watch the movie before hand and be a little clearer on Magenta's parts... :) And it would be really kewl if we could actually get the whole cast to be LARPers, and have everybody know what's going on with their parts... I won't be as anal about it as the guy who ran the show when I played Janet in K-ville, but we could definitely do a lot better than the thrown together at the last minute cast that they had on Saturday... :)
In other news, The Sims: Makin' Magic rocks, and is completely addictive, as many of the previous expansions were... buy it, you will love it... :) I'm having to split my time between that and working on Christmas presents...
Speaking of the latter, I need to make a list of who all I need to get presents for, and what to get them... as for me, I just want a whole bunch of DVDs, and maybe a new pair of jeans... and gift certificates to Hot Topic, of course... :) That would pretty much do it... :)
