Random ramblings cuz I have nothing better to do... or something... :)
This is the site formerly known as Anneke's Haven. Within, you will find information about my previous White Wolf chronicles, and other random gaming related stuff. I also have a blog here, where I talk about pretty much everything and anything, though it's primarily about my exciting life... the definition of exciting definitely being up for debate.

Different twist for music day, this week. I was reminded yesterday, on getting out my Greenberry Woods CD, about all of the assorted things I have had signed by various members of bands... let's see what I can remember... :)

Well, first off, there was that time when I was in high school when the Guys Next Door came to K-Mart to sign stuff. Now, if you don't know who the Guys Next Door are, you're missing out. They were basically another New Kids on the Block, with a bit more ethnic diversity. And they had a TV show. And they were kinda funny too... :) Anyways, yeah. We got my mom to drive us down to a far away K-Mart (I think it was in South County) to get stuff signed by these guys from a TV show... :) I think I have pictures... :)

Then there was the first Pointfest. I'm still a little fuzzy on exactly when this was. Anyways, this was the Pointfest where only 6 bands played, and it wrapped up around 10 p.m., so you could get Midnight Oil's autographs afterwards. This was one of the times I was with Jamie when she introduced herself as Guinevere, which always got good reactions out of people... :)

Then it must have been at the next Pointfest (that would be Pointfest 2), when I got one of the Johns (from TMBG) to sign my T-shirt with the giant head on it. Unfortunately, washing T-shirts causes permanent marker to wash out, but dammit, I liked wearing that shirt. Now it's becoming a part of the quilt I'm making... whenever I get around to that... :)

Sometime in all of this, probably '92 or '93, was when Jamie drove out to Indiana to see the Gin Blossoms, and brought me back a dollar bill that Jesse had signed. I think I eventually spent that dollar, but for a very long time, it sat in the front of my Gin Blossoms CD case. I still remember what it said: "Dawn, Where are you? I miss you. Jesse"... not that he knew me, that's just what he wrote... :)

I also have this vague memory of seeing Catherine Wheel somewhere in St. Louis (I think it was the Galaxy, but I doubt that's what it's called anymore), and waiting afterwards to get them to sign stuff... probably our ticket stubs, though I don't know where mine has run off to. Again with Jamie (of course), and this is when I decided that Rob (the lead singer) is the devil... he just has a very devilish look about him... :)

And then, finally, though, again, I can't remember exactly when, we saw Greenberry Woods at Mississippi Nights. I do know it was in August, and that it was Ira's (one of the guys in the band) birthday. This was before I turned 21, I know that much, because this was when they had the stupid rule that if you were under 21, you could only be in one section of the club, and couldn't go on the floor. Well, Jamie and I were watching them, singing along with every song, and these two older women noticed it, and ended up begging the bouncers to let us go onto the floor with them, promising they'd look after us. Well, the bouncers finally caved, for the last song, which just happened to be "Waiting for Dawn"... my favorite... :) Afterwards, we waited for them to come out, and I got my CD booklet signed by Matt... who wrote "Dawn, I've been waiting..." :) Cute, eh? :)

There's probably others as well, but those are the ones I remember... yeah, I listened to some sheer crap for a good long while... but there's some good bands mixed in there as well... :)

As an aside, in order to try to sort out dates on some of this, I did a whole bunch of attempted research on Pointfest. I wasn't able to find ANYWHERE on the web where someone has sat down and listed the dates and bands at each of the older Pointfests. In fact, I was able to find very little information on any Pointfest before 5... which was the first one I didn't go to. And now I'm mad that I didn't go to that one, because Poe and Pulp both played that show. It was in May of 1996... sadly, I missed a lot of concerts after the fall of 1995... in fact, I don't even want to think about all the concerts I've missed... :(
