Time for a gaming update... :)

So first off, I ended up NOT running Adventure for Turkey Madness. After discovering that I'm really not up on those rules, coupled with the fact that everyone loves Sabbat, I ran the usual Turkey Madness instead. Completely new plot, as I couldn't remember the old plot more than in snippets. So three of the five members of the old pack were off to Japan to wrestle, and the remaining two members picked up a new guy (Jason G., just with a new character), and they were off. They got another guy about halfway through the night, when Nick P. showed up. We got maybe halfway done with the story I had hoped to run, in about 9 and a half hours. Granted, I didn't run for all of that, but it was still a good long game. The plan is to finish it up over Christmas break, if possible. Another new guy (Dennis) is gonna be joining them then, I believe... :) The most interesting thing I discovered in all of this is that I've been LARPing for far too long, as I couldn't remember half of the TT rules. And apparently my players want to throw chops for Dominate... :)

Then there's the Accursed Forgotten, where Mel is still Harpy... new Prince in power, and that's shaping up to be interesting. If things go the way that he wants them to go, it should really shake up the game. Of course, I've been LARPing here for 6 years, and I think there's a possibility that the desired changes will be of such a magnitude that they won't actually happen. So we'll have to see. But in the meantime, I'm in a rather comfortable place with that character... so w00t for that! :) I'm also just starting to cruise into the region of having a decent character sheet... I'd say it's around 40-50 points when you start going "yeah, maybe I could survive if they throw something bad at me"... of course, more points makes you more secure, but I'm hitting the first of my Advanced disciplines after the next game, and that makes me happy... :)

Then we have Where Angels Fear to Tread, the Sabbat game. God are we screwed in that game. Hoping we can pull off a miracle, but knowing that it's not bloody likely... but hey, as long as we keep laughing while we spiral down into hell, it's all good... :)

And then there's the up-and-coming game, tentatively titled "The Black Spiral"... my character for that game is either approved or still pending, depending on who you ask... interesting. At least I know what I intend to play, and if that gets completely shot down, I think I have an idea for a back-up plan... or two... :) This game is definitely going to be interesting... not sure how I mean that yet... :)

D&D has been put on indefinite hold, and I rather miss that game... :( But school comes first, and as Thor is all kinds of busy with school, I guess I can understand... :)

So yeah, that's about it, at the moment... something else in the works, but it still needs a lot of work... which reminds me, we should get on top of that... :)

Yes, it's time for another installment of the ScaryWhiteGirl's movie reviews... because I watched a lot of movies over the weekend... :)

Shrek: No, I hadn't seen this movie till just now... and that is a shame, because I really liked it. Then again, I tend to like cartoons, cuz I'm just a big kid sometimes... :) But yeah, definitely well deserving of the hype.

Shrek 2: And I liked this one even better. I think my preference from this comes from all the movie parodies in it. Especially the LotR parody... too cute... :)

The Wedding Singer: Because I hate Adam Sandler, I avoid his movies like the plague. This is only the second one I've seen (having been forced to sit through "Happy Gilmore" last year). Of course, being predominantly about the '80s, I liked it. Cute premise, too... :)

Ginger Snaps Back: The Beginning: Hey, I said I had to see all three of them, ya know? :) Actually, this one (the 3rd) was far better than the 2nd one. Not great, by any stretch of the imagination, but better. Mainly, it's that for a movie set in 1815, those girls use enough obscenities... not that I care, but for historical purposes, it was kinda annoying... :)

All the Queen's Men: Very funny movie with Eddie Izzard (and Matt LeBlanc, but I don't like him much). Yeah for movies with men in drag... oddly enough, I almost rented "Priscilla Queen of the Desert" as well yesterday... :)

And, with a very dishonorable mention, The Saint: Which I didn't even want to finish watching. It was on TV, so we watched part of it, and were dying from all the silliness. I think the thing that bugged me most about it was that I didn't like Val Kilmer's character, cuz he was slimy to me... breaking into the chick's apartment to learn all about her, and then using that to get her... creepy...

And that's about it. For the most part, definitely worth checking out, if you haven't already. :)

Two things:

1) Check out Oh My God It Burns. Quality work by those scienticians... :)

2) Random words of wisdom: Because it has a huge buzzsaw. :)

That is all.

Hmmm... not much to rant about lately... part of that is that I haven't heard any bad covers recently (a couple of good ones, though, which has been nice!), and the other part is that I'm just not very ranty lately in general... :) I like being happy Dawn... :)

I am, however, realizing that the craft fair is in 13 days now, and I should probably at least figure out how many hats of each size / cost I have, and see if I really do need to make any more or not. And, of course, with the craft fair in 13 days, Christmas Day is in 36 days... yikes! Got a few things to get done by or before then, craft-wise... and then a bunch of shopping, but I'm waiting till after the craft fair for that... :) Hopefully I won't be giving everyone hats for Christmas... ;)

The game front is getting sorta interestingly full... we've got OWBN every other Friday, the Sabbat game currently runs most Saturdays (I say as there is another 3 week gap between games), and in January, there's a new Cam game starting to alternate with the Sabbat game... so yeah, that's a lot of games... and then, there's something else in the works... some people know details, but I'm pretending like it's super sekrit... :) Dunno when that will actually come into existence though... but we're laying some groundwork... :) And I'm running Turkey Madness, as usual, a week from today... Adventure this year, though, because I want to run it, dammit! Need to get characters made for that, though... heh... :)

And between those things, and work, not a whole lot more going on. Middle Eastern dance still, but that's about to wrap up... I need to figure out if I'm gonna take it in the spring or not... I'd like to, but we'll have to see... at least I'm getting better at it, and haven't fallen over yet... :)

Two movies to mention today... one kicked a lot of ass, the other one, not so much.

The first movie in question is "The Incredibles"... now while this may look vaguely like a kids' movie, and while it is, in fact, geared towards children to a certain extent, this movie is a lot of fun for us grown-ups (or those who pretend to be grown-up) as well... it's about super heroes, after all, and who doesn't like a good super hero movie? :) So if you're getting roped into taking some small child to the movies (or if you get duped into thinking you're taking some small child to the movies), this is a good choice... they'll be entertained, and you'll be entertained... fun for everyone! :)

The second movie in question is "Hellboy"... now realize that I don't read a lot of comics (Sandman and Preacher being the two exceptions, honestly), so I'm a bit clueless when it comes to Hellboy and the B.R.P.D. (or whatever it's called)... and also I suppose it is a valid point that I was cross-stitching while I watched the movie... so it didn't have my undivided attention... but I was not impressed. The action-y parts weren't action-y enough for me. The dialogue was pretty witty, but not overly so... more quippy than anything. At least the Hellboy costume was better than I originally thought it would be... and Liz was cute... :)

As a side note, I also finally watched "Conan the Barbarian" over the weekend, and it was good... :)

In other news, Christmas is rapidly approaching, and I need to really get to work on some of the gifts I'm trying to make for Christmas this year... gah!

Well, ya know, I've updated this every other day this week, so I might as well update it today as well, right? :)

There's apparently another quasi-cover song that I need to hear... Linkin Park and Depeche Mode covering some Depeche Mode song... so that makes it only a quasi-cover, cuz DM is involved... now, having not heard it (and not even knowing what song it is), I can't say for sure now, but I have a feeling I'm not gonna like it much... Linkin Park is just one of those bands that I flip-flop between loving and hating... but generally speaking, it's the latter... soooo... we shall see... :)

You know, I was looking at my archives yesterday, and I discovered that the "End of the Work Week Wisdom" fell by the wayside long ago... I should fix that... let's see...

Nope, I've got nothing... so if anyone has any good ideas, leave me a comment... I'm kinda curious to see if the commenting stuff still works, actually... :)

Two new backgrounds on the fiction page today... Lucy Jane Brennan/Lucena Diamante and Dani Ghivanni. Both were written a while ago, but I'm just finally posting them, as both of those characters are far enough out of play that the details won't affect any game stuff.

What's interesting, to me at least, is that I started playing Dani quite some time ago, with only a vague background. The background I'm posting now was actually written, I think, either late in 2002 or early in 2003, and part of it is from a story I tried to write during the summer of 2002, but never got anywhere with. Lucy's background was written in the spring of 2002. What's odd is the similarities between the two backgrounds. They're both Army brats, travelled everywhere during their childhood, and ended up wanderers when they came into their existence as supernaturals as well. This isn't entirely surprising, as Dani was a Ravnos, and Lucy Jane was an Eshu... but it's still kinda odd and coincidental, especially when I'm posting them both on the same day.

What's further odd is that I have another character who was an Army brat, travelled everywhere during her childhood, and ended up a wanderer... she's a Gangrel... :) Unfortunately, that's one of the first backgrounds I ever wrote, and it's very dry... so no posting of it... :)

And this isn't the first time that I've noticed trends with my character backgrounds. Most of my characters for a good long while came from broken homes, raised by one parent or the other, but never both. I'm sure psychologists could have a field day with that one... :)

Well, at least I know where NOT to go with my next character(s)... currently, Mel has the broken home bit in her background... Paz just ran away from home to avoid getting married... at 15... :)

Holy crap, I updated the fiction page... and more holy crap, it's something that I can link directly to! Clan Ravnos by me! :) Nope, no Sabbat stuff this time around... just clean, Ravnos fun... :)

And yeah, I need to work more on that page... I think I have a few more backgrounds to add... and maybe some other stuff... :)

Yay purple sunglasses! :) Never mind the fact that I don't currently OWN purple sunglasses... I just have bad luck actually keeping purple sunglasses... I lost the first pair I owned when I still lived in Kirksville... I then went for YEARS without having any. I then found a pair at the Dollar Store, and loved them dearly... until I left them in Gabe's car when it died at Wal-Mart... and then they were gone... :(

But still, they match the page, and they're the sunglasses I wish I had... so :p

There are other pics to see as well...

Me by the big red sculpture at Laumeier

On top of the pyramid type sculpture at Laumeier

The original of the picture I'm using for my page picture

On top of Cromlech Glen

The previous picture, with a bit of way kewl photo manipulation...

Me as Alice from America McGee's video game... oooh, creepy... :)

Yeah, the pics are big, so dial-up users might wanna go get a soda or something... :)

w00t! New picture! :) Courtesy of Thor, who took it while Jason G. and I were playing in the "baby coffins" at Laumeier, seeing if we fit in them... :)

Yeah, it's a little bit more accurate than the last picture, which was more than 2 years old... it's probably gonna change again soon, after I play with it in my PhotoShop-esque program at home...

In the meantime, it's almost the end of the day... I'm out...

The rant for today shall be: movie sequels that suck... :) Not a comprehensive list, but just a couple I feel the need to comment upon.

So there's a movie called "Ginger Snaps." Werewolf movie, the main character being a teenaged girl, and so it's a bit of different look at being a werewolf... then again, I haven't seen a lot of werewolf movies in general... :) Anyway, there's a sequel to this movie called "Ginger Snaps 2: Unleashed." And it's not really like the first one at all. Most of it takes place in a drug rehab place, and while it does deal a little bit with the whole "petty teenage girl" thing that the first one featured, it's just plain weird... and the ending is way off... I didn't like it at all...

And then there's "Once Upon a Time in Mexico." I liked "Desperado." Never seen "El Mariachi." I don't know if it was because Antonio Banderas' character is so mopey and broody or what, but even Johnny Depp couldn't save this movie. Granted, his character is pretty awesome (if overly skilled with a gun within hours of losing his sight), but not awesome enough to make this a quality movie. I liked the flamethrower bit, but that was about all... and the Johnny Depp's character losing his eyes was BAD BAD BAD... couldn't watch it.

So yeah... two bad movies in one day... but they made decent background noise for a lazy Sunday afternoon of crocheting and cross-stitching. I should have gone and done something outside, cuz it was so nice, but I was lazy... :)

File this under bizarre coincidences...

So I'm looking up Portishead lyrics online... had to go make a copy, so I'm away from my desk for a minute... come back, and guess what the Brit Pop station I found this morning is playing? :)

I am amused... :)

EDIT: And this station completely rocks... now they're playing a Morrissey version of "Every Day is Like Sunday"... not sure if it's the original or not, but it's kewl, nonetheless... ah, Morrissey... so sickeningly depressing and good... :)

Hmmm... let's see if posting again will make the post from last week go as well?

No song rant at the moment... just a report that my weekend in St. Louis was awesome, and I had a ton of fun. No, our costumes didn't win a damn thing, but _I_ know we all looked good, so who cares about the dumb prizes? Silly uncultured types... :p

Anyways, work is hectic as always... proof sheets for the 2nd of 2 volumes arrived in my doorway after lunch, so that adds to the business. It's gonna be interesting, too, as I printed a calendar of November, and marked the days that either my boss or myself will be gone. After this week, the most days that we will both be in, for the rest of the month, is 2. Yeah, that's gonna make things difficult... *sigh*...

Games are going well... special event for the Friday game this weekend... whee! Can't figure out how to get my tattoos on my back, so I'll just cover them up... :)
