First off, the slight disappointment. We were going to watch "Jesus Christ: Vampire Hunter" on Friday night, but it's in .avi format, and neither J's PS2 or computer could handle it. We're going to see if my DVD player or computer can, at some point. From the minimal dialogue we heard, it seems that it will be a riot... though whether of the laughing hysterically or hunting down the director variety remains to be seen.

But I did watch some other movies. I finally picked up the first two "Mummy" movies again (I think this is the third time I've had to get them), and enjoyed watching both of those. I also watched "Office Space" over the weekend, and that never gets old. :)

I finally got to see "Iron Monkey" on Friday night, as we chose that when JCVH wouldn't work. Pretty good movie, awesome kung fu, though the plot was a little transparent. Meh, it was still fun to watch, though I maintain that I don't like watching movies with subtitles when I'm eating, cuz I miss stuff. But once I was done eating, it was good. :)

And I've gotten a preliminary review on "Cursed," which tells me wait until it's out on DVD. :)

I actually have four contenders for the End of the Work Week Wisdom this week. However, one of them was somewhat used on Wednesday, in the discussion of abominalienators and triatheleditors. One of them can be saved for next week. And the other spare one can be saved for another time. So, here 'tis.

"I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass. And I'm all out of bubblegum."
--from "They Live"

Just for Hegel, who requested it... :) That, and I've always liked that quote, even if I haven't watched the movie... :)

::..::

In other news, tonight is a blissfully game-free night, and I'm happy about that. Tomorrow is the first Cammie game, and I'm happy about that too. All in all, this is shaping up to be a good weekend, and I'm extremely happy about that. :)

And my favorite ABP song is on... :)

Well, the afghan for Amanda and Jim's baby is getting close to done, which is good. I joined the first two squares this morning, and that went relatively well, so I'm pleased. Of course, I still have to make three more squares before it's done, and join them all, and put on the edging... but it's close! :)

I had an indirect request for something which would be really kewl, if I can figure it out. I have a good idea on how to do it, just need some information. Yeah, it's of the sekrit variety... ;)

And since Goodwill is selling their sweaters for half off right now, I have three new sweaters to unravel. It sucks that all of the GOOD sweaters always cost more (and aren't on sale), but the three I got are decent. I may go back for some chenille ones, but most of them looked to be fairly thin yarn... could always double it up, though... :)

::..::

In other news, I woke up at 1 a.m. this morning because someone was playing an acoustic guitar somewhere near me. I looked around outside (no, I can't really explain why) to see if they were out there, and then tried listening at the wall next to my bed. I think it was the upstairs neighbor. This is ten million times better than the previous upstairs neighbors (known by a terribly affectionate nickname, due to their squeaky bed and odd timing).

Still, it's an odd thing to wake up to, though not the oddest or most annoying thing I've woken up to while living in that apartment... :)

Things I never really needed to know, I learned by watching "The Forgotten"
1. If a plot seems completely implausible and silly, it's probably in this movie.
2. Fear the abominalienators.
3. Triatheleditors can beat an abominalienator, hands down.
4. Ex-hockey players kick ass.
5. The NSA is a bunch of slow running nelly little girls.
6. Fear the power of "whoosh."
7. The "special ending" is the same suck as the first time through, except with the abominalienator.

I don't usually rant that much about movies, and certainly not on a Wednesday, but sometimes, something is the suckiest suck that ever sucked, and thus we have to change things up a bit.

See, the first sign that this was a bad movie should have been the fact that it was in the theaters in December, and was out on DVD by the end of January. That's a bit of a turnaround. I think it might also have been a sign that it was bad because Gary Sinese and Anthony Edwards were in it. Because the former is a decent actor, but he hasn't been in much lately. And the latter, well, I thought he used to be young and on E.R.? Cuz he's not any more.

So yeah, anyone who says that this movie has a neat twist like in "The Sixth Sense" should probably be laughed at. Cuz though I haven't seen "The Sixth Sense" (someone ruined the ending for me before I could see it), I seriously doubt that this movie even comes close to it.

And to explain some of the weird words in my list above:

"abominalienators" = Vampire/Werewolf/alien/Terminator monster thingies. They can't be stopped. Well, usually... they do have an archnemesis in...

"triatheleditors" = because women who edit children's books for a living can outrun ANYTHING. Except they can't catch up to their own children, oddly enough. But they are far superior to the abominalienators. My current goal in life is to become a triatheleditor. Except that I think it involves running, and I don't like running.

"whoosh" = I dunno if I can explain this one without laughing hysterically, and as I'm at work, I don't think I want to try. Sadly, I think you have to watch the movie to understand whoosh, and I really wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy. You will want that hour and forty-five minutes of your life back.

"shwoo" = the opposite of whoosh. Blame J for that one. It was meant to be "whoosh" backwards, but it didn't sound like it. And no, there is no visible "shwoo"... we made it up, mostly.

So yeah. The suckiest suck that ever sucked. Seriously.

Worse than "Van Helsing"... cuz at least "Van Helsing" has Kate Beckinsale in a corset and impractical boots... :)

Three game weekend = lots to post about.

Friday was the first formal Elysium for our local OWBN game. I was exceedingly nervous about it on Friday, to the point where I was having to remind myself to breathe at points, and when J came to get me, I was in super hyper freak-out mode. So that was not too much fun. But my dress looked good, my announcements / presentation type stuff went relatively well, and most of my games worked out okay. And now Mel is officially the Seneschal, which is a new position for me both IC and OOC. I've been Prince, Harpy, and Sheriff (oddly enough) officially before; I've been the unofficial Seneschal and Scourge before; but this is the first time I've really been the Seneschal. It's something I'm going to have to get used to, I think, as I'm suspecting a lot of my job is going to be to be the filter for the Prince, keeping the "acknowledged masses" (as Elizabeth and Mel dubbed them on Sunday) in line and not annoying him.

Saturday was Sabbat game, which was a bit slow at points, but fun overall. After the big dress up event of Friday, I was not really interested in dressing up much for Saturday, and I was really wanting to just kinda sit around and not have to run everything. Doesn't work well when you're a ductus, though. We picked up a couple of new members for our pack, who may or may not be back in the future. I'm never too sure when it comes to new players, as we've had a lot that have shown up for one game, and then never again. There's a fifth pack now, and once again, the discussion of picking a Bishop has reared its ugly head. I doubt we ever will, though, because the ducti can't decide upon one of us to do it, and we're not gonna pick a non-ductus for the position.

Sunday was Paducah game, which we stayed at a bit longer than I had originally intended. But J was really involved with what was going on, as well as having fun, and I was having a pretty good time. I wish more of the Toreador would show up on a regular basis, because there's a ton of them, and I've met like four. Dennis says they have a tendency to show up for like an hour, and leave because none of the other Toreador are there. And then another one will show up half an hour after the first one leaves. Lather, rinse, repeat. *sigh*... I did have someone tell me that I'm a Toreador of "great importance," though, so that was a nice ego boost... :)

This weekend, the new Cammie game starts, and that's ALL the gaming I'm doing this weekend. Some people are going to E-ville on Friday, but I really want to do something non-game this Friday. So that is, in fact, the plan. :)

Garou meeting on Thursday, where we get to start hashing out the gifts. Oh joy.

Wow, I actually watched some movies over the weekend. I know, shock and surprise! :) Of course, both of them were movies that I had seen before, but picked up on DVD because they were cheap. I like cheap DVDs. :)

"Mystery Men" - some people really don't like this movie, but I do. Eddie Izzard is in it, for one thing, and I also really like Janeane Garafalo's character... :) Her hair rocks. :)

"Sneakers" - I actually had this one on VHS, but as I rarely watch my tapes, I thought I'd snag this on DVD, since it was cheap. It's kinda funny to watch, because even though I don't know a whole lot about the whole hacking thing, it does seem like it's probably getting a bit dated. But hey, there are some good little phreaking references that I DO get, so that's always fun. :)

Gonna watch "The Forgotten" tomorrow, not "The Forsaken" as I originally thought. Sometime, I really need more sleep. Like now. Sleep would be great. 6 hours a night only works for a few days before you have to crash. :)

Hurrah, it's Friday! Despite having Monday off, this has felt like a long week, in that Monday feels like it was forever ago... but hey, it's the weekend now! Well, after work, at least. So, without further ado, the End of the Work Week Wisdom:

My girlfriends ask me, "What's he like?"
I say, "He's kind of shy,
But that's the kind of girl I am,
He's my kind of guy"

Yup, that's how it is... :)

I haven't done much crochet in the past couple of weeks. Been taking a break from it mostly after finishing up my roses for the craft fair. Then again, I've also been relatively busy. :)

I did try to show Shannon how to do some pretty simple stuff on Saturday. She's gonna try to teach me to knit. We'll see if I can learn it now, a good year after I tried the first time.

The craft fair was somewhat disappointing, in that by the next day, I had made arrangements to sell just about as much stuff as I had sold during the actual craft fair. So that was kinda bizarre and weird. But it's not all bad, because I'm using my quasi-success to justify buying 4 Voltaire CDs... :)

::..::

In other news, I'm gearing up for the big gaming weekend. Hopefully this will only happen once a month, if that... cuz it's going to be insane. It does add to the insanity that this is the formal Elysium game on Friday, that Sabbat plays this week and then skips a week, and that Paducah is always volatile... :) But I think it'll be fun, just crazed... :)

311, how I loathe thee. May you never have another hit single, and may your albums be reduced to sale in the extremely cheap CD bins at all record stores everywhere.

J was dropping me off last night, and what comes on the radio? "Love Song"... the 311 version. It's to the point now where I am actually liking two covers of that song. But I can't stand the 311 version. So I made a strangling motion at the radio, which amused J greatly. It's just pure evil...

And other than that, I don't have any covers to rant about. But as that version of the song will always hold a special place of loathing in my heart, it's always good to rant about it more.

The Cure should not be subjected to a quasi-reggae beat. Ever.

Okay, I'm done. Mostly cuz I'm too tired to rant more, and those two initial sentences sapped most of my creativity for the day. :)

Well, I didn't post yesterday cuz a) I was at a craft fair all day, and b) I didn't watch any movies except for "Constantine" last week, and I don't want to talk too much about it, since it doesn't even come out till Friday... :)

So now it's game day. Let's see here...

We went to E-ville on Friday for their OWBN game. Had a pretty good time, and all three of us who went (myself, J, and Karac) came back with some useful information of varying sorts. So that's kewl. I got to chat with some other Toreador, and found out about ANOTHER Toreador tattoo artist. That means I know of at least five, including myself. Two are NPCs in our game, but still. That's a lot. Especially when I couldn't find a painter to save my life. :)

Sabbat game on Saturday was great. I accidentally killed one of my packmates (oops!) because he had Soul Steal used on him, and then I put up a Shroud. Instant Oblivion. Hurrah! :) At least I played along with what my character knew, rather than what I knew. I knew it was instant death for Wraiths, but Paz has no clue, cuz she had never encountered that before. She had been told that Giovanni don't like Shroud, because it does bad things to their ghosts, but that was about it. Anyways, she almost died too, but luckily the non-ducti worked fast, and she survived. We're still in a bad position in that game, but it's becoming more fun. My pack works really well together, and the other ducti even mentioned that mine is one of the best functioning packs.

This weekend is gonna be crazy mad game weekend. Actually, this whole week is. Tomorrow night, I have scenes to run with Dennis for the local OWBN game. Thursday, (new) Nate and I have an ST meeting for the upcoming Garou game. Friday, local OWBN game, with formal Elysium. Saturday, Sabbat game. Sunday, J and I (and maybe Karac) are going to the Paducah game, cuz it rocks. I'll be maxed on my OWBN XP for the month on Friday, but Paducah game is good enough that we'll go anyway... and J hasn't been there yet.

::..::

In other news, yesterday was a very good day. The craft fair wasn't the greatest, but J is. :)

Having a hard time coming up with the End of the Work Week Wisdom this week because a) I can't remember any of the good lines from "Constantine", and b) I can't find the lyrics to the Voltaire song that I want to post... :( So instead, we'll go with...

"Get the cool, get the cool shoeshine."
--"19-2000" by The Gorillaz

:p

In other news, "Constantine" was far better than I expected it to be. Granted, I'm pretty sure that I liked it because I _haven't_ read Hellblazer, and thus couldn't tell you just what they had messed up. So take that as a warning, I suppose... :)

In other other news, Voltaire rocks. "Goodnight Demon Slayer" is quickly becoming one of my favorite songs. I've listened to it about 5 times since I downloaded it... last night... yeah. :) You know you like a song when you burn it to a CD so you can listen to it multiple times at work, and on the drive to game...

Speaking of, yeah. Driving to E-ville for game tonight. Haven't done that in a couple of years. I've been up there within the past two years, but not driving. So utterly bizarre. But it should be fun... :) Next weekend looks like it might be a 3 game weekend after all... whee! :)

Been taking a break from crocheting for the past couple of days. Mostly, it's because I was busy all night on Tuesday, and last night, I just couldn't think of anything to make. Need to find something, though, as I'll get super bored with no crochet to do. I could be working on the afghan for Jim and Amanda's baby, but it goes really fast, and I don't have to get it done till April-ish... :)

Wait, who am I kidding, I should be working on that... otherwise I'll be madly scrambling to put it all together while she's in labor or something... :)

I really need to go get myself a digicam, though, so I can take pictures of what I'm making, and put them online. I allegedly have a craft page here, but it has no pictures, cuz I'm too lazy to scan the ones I have... digicams are my friend... :)

Unfortunately, I don't know a lot about them... I may have to see if I can recruit someone to help me shop for one... if I can find someone who knows what to look for... Thor?

Anyways, craft fair on Monday, which hopefully Cindy and I will do well at. I have about 100 crocheted roses... so if those don't sell, I guess people will be getting souvenirs of the formal Elysium... ;)

At least the nice thing about the roses is that they take up a lot less room than my hats... of which I still have an abundance... :)

Okay, here's a rarity for music day...

I have heard a cover of a Cure song that I genuinely like. To the point that I want to have it in my collection.

Voltaire covering "Love Song."

It's on the latest Slaghuis playlist, and when I saw that on there, I was a little bit wary of it. I've only recently started enjoying listening to Voltaire, and some of his stuff is a little bit silly. This song, however, is not. It's just plain good. No, he's not Robert Smith, but he's awesome nonetheless. :)

So yeah, congratulations, Voltaire, you're in a rare category in my book. :)

Now, to buy the CD it's on. And a couple of others, maybe. Oh, what the hell... I know I want everything he's put out... cuz I'm a freak like that... :)

::..::

In other news, I've been doing a TON of game stuff between yesterday and today. Dammit, why do people give my characters responsibilities? Oh, wait... I think I kinda asked for it in the Sabbat game, and, well, yeah, in the OWBN game as well... though I do still maintain that I totally didn't know that the Toreador were getting put in charge of EVERYTHING for the Elysium. I vote that for the next one, some other clan is put in charge... which will make this one look WAY better, in retrospect... ;)

And yeah, "Constantine" tomorrow... here's hoping that the boyz decide to have their ST meeting tonight, or after the movie on Thursday, because I'd really like to get to see it with J... :)

Well, two games this past weekend, so a bit to recap. :)

This was the first time I was at the Friday game from start to finish in a VERY long time... granted, there was no game for a chunk of that, but it had been quite a while. And the game was, overall, quite insane. I got mildly chewed out by the Prince for a slight screw-up on my part (okay, really it was a big screw-up, but I played it down as best I could, and thus only got mildly chewed out). I got chewed out a second time for not having done anything for the formal Elysium in two weeks... oh, crap, I didn't know I was supposed to be working on that... panic time! :) And then someone I had begged to tell a story got chewed out by the Prince because he (unfortunately) was finishing the story, loudly, when it got quiet... :) Overall, though, I got out of it mostly unscathed, and while I may have pissed off one person (involved in the first chewing out), I think it's all good... :)

I also finally got to talk to Sebastian (my childe) when Samwise and I ran a scene on Saturday night/Sunday morning, and we've got things relatively situated... I don't think he needs to die now... :)

Game on Saturday went far better than expected. I have a back-up character made now, because I was pretty damn sure I'd need one after this past game. But all the ducti made it out alive, and we only lost a couple of characters all told. I'm a little annoyed that we paid $10,000 to get Serp back, and then he died a couple of hours later, but the $10,000 was worth it to keep him out of the hands of the Cammies... :) Hopefully we're gonna get organized in that game now, and maybe be able to accomplish something... :) Need to do my in-weeks for that game, as I have the information I need now... :)

Didn't go to Paducah, cuz I was exhausted on Sunday, but I heard it was a really good game. Maybe I'll get down there in a couple of weeks... we'll see... :)

::..::

In other news, J is the best boyfriend ever, cuz he gets my car out of the mud, even when it's late at night, and he was probably getting stuff done at home, and not expecting to have to go out and get covered in mud. *kisses*

Bored, so I added some links to old posts to my About Me page. One of these days, I think I'm going to make a "Cast List" to go on that page, so random people will have some clue about who these people that I talk about actually are... but that would take a lot of work, so maybe I won't... :)

Okay, this is a weird thing. I didn't watch ANY movies over the past week. Seriously. None.

I did watch the entirety of the first season of "The Brak Show," which is awesome, and I'm glad I own it. I never really got to watch much of it when it was on TV, being on Cartoon Network and me not having cable, but I'm planning on collecting the show, because I love Brak. He's so funny. :)

But J has "Jesus Christ: Vampire Hunter," which we need to watch at some point. I think it's going to be utterly ridiculous, but that's okay. :)

And apparently SPC is doing an advance screening of "Constantine" on Thursday night... hmmm... go see what could be a crappy movie for free? That sounds like a plan... much better than having to pay $6 to see it! :)

::..::

In other news, I'm recovering nicely from the icky cold stuff, though I don't sound like it. My sinuses haven't given me much problems, it's mostly been my throat. But between the two, I sound sicker now than I did before. But I've been keeping it at bay pretty well. Hell, I was downright hyper on Friday when J came over... :)

A rare Saturday post, to reveal what yesterdays sekrit was... :)

I found out a week ago that Interpol was playing in St. Louis in March. At that time, I was under the impression that tickets had already gone on sale, cuz my friend Shawn bought his last Friday. I wanted to wait to see if J thought he could get some time off work, and if he wanted to go. After I asked him about it, I tried to get tickets, but it seemed that the show was already sold out... :(

Well, then Jamie E-mailed me to tell me that tickets went on sale yesterday at noon. I was a little confused, but I went to the Interpol site, and saw that they did. So I waited around till noon, then jumped on and bought 2 tickets...

So J and I get to go see Interpol! :) And apparently, we're like the only people in our group of friends who even know who they are, so: Interpol's webpage. Enjoy! :)

Not at work today, as I decided to take the day to fight off the cold that seemed to want to grab me. I'm feeling a whole lot better, but as it would be silly to go to work for 2 hours, I'll just stay here at home. :)

End of the Work Week Wisdom, nonetheless:

"We should take a trip now to see new places
I'm sick of this town and I've seen my faces change."

--"Say Hello to Angels" by Interpol

Which is, btw, a hint about a sekrit... don't worry though, it's only staying sekrit for about three more hours...

And I'm not even sure that I need to keep it sekrit, because I don't think the person it is a sekrit from will read this in the next three hours, but I don't want to ruin it, just in case... cryptic enough for ya? ;)

Suffice it to say that Dawn has been doing a happy dance since about noon today...

Nothing much to report on the craftiness front. I'm still working on roses, but that's slowed down temporarily so that I can work on my super sekrit project. And since it's super sekrit, that means no details here, yet.

Every day, I really think more and more that I need to buy a new digital camera, so that I can take pictures of my stuff that will actually be "developed" or available to post more quickly. I think I'm gonna work on my taxes tonight, and see if I'll be getting a nice refund, which will be able to be used for buying said camera. Hell, I could just go buy one, but I'm silly like that sometimes. I've gotten better about buying myself things that I want, but I'm still hesitant about it sometimes.

::..::

In other news, I forgot to bring CDs to work today. Not like I don't have a full crate of them on my desk. But I'm listening to internet radio again, and I'm a bit disturbed by the fact that this theoretically random station just played Jane's Addiction and now is playing Porno for Pyros. Two doses of Perry Farrell in a row is an odd way to spend part of the morning... :)

Yet again, it's another slow music week. I'm listening to a rather old CD at the moment... Pale Divine. Now I haven't had this on CD forever, but I've had their music for a long time. I originally had this on tape, got the MP3s when Ian was able to download lots of music for me, and burned it to a CD a couple of years ago.

But yeah. Pale Divine broke up around 1992 or 1993. I used to have a T-shirt that I bought the one and only time that I saw them; I let Gabe wear it, and ultimately have it (as was the case with most of my shirts he wore).

What makes this more odd is that I wanted to listen to this CD yesterday, for no apparent reason. I then spent part of yesterday afternoon trying to track down Jamie, my friend who introduced me to this band (and so many others). I ended up tracking down Jeff, who was a mutual friend of Jamie and I, and has apparently seen her in the past couple of years. I'm still waiting to hear back from him, but I'm hoping I will successfully get back in contact with these people. Cuz I miss them lots.

So yeah, this post has diverted itself from the topic of music and onto the topic of old friends... ah well. It's vaguely music related, as Jamie, Jeff, and I were all big music fans... and I suspect we all still are... I know I am... :)

Anyway, Pale Divine. Check 'em out if you get a chance. They rock(ed)... :)

For the record, this Pale Divine. There's apparently another band using that name now...

Hmmm... game stuff...

Well, I've got my character approved for the new Cammie game, which is at least theoretically called "The Black Spiral"... I'm rather confused about that name, though, because it's a fairly obvious Werewolf reference, for a Cammie game... weirdness. Anyways, yeah. Decided to stick with Star for her name, though I do think she needs a better DJ name than D.J. Star... :) Should be REALLY interesting to see how well this character goes over. I do have this odd feeling that I'm the only Ventrue PC... meaning that with as odd as Star is, there are pretty much no Ventrue PCs... :)

Two games coming up this weekend, and the option of Paducah on Sunday, which I will probably not take. Three games in one weekend would be a bit insane... and Sunday is the Superbowl, which I may or may not be watching... dunno yet... :)

Nate and I had a good ST meeting last Wednesday, for our Garou game... it has a tentative title, which I'm not advertising too widely until we decide if we really like the name or not... but I rather like it thus far. We still have a LOT of work to do on that, but at least we went over all of the Merits and Flaws, and at least went over the retests for all of the Gifts. We still need to look over the actual rules for the Gifts, and rewrite a chunk of the Werewolf-specific rules, as 3rd ed. Laws of the Wild honestly looks like they just copied and pasted bits from the TT rules... which doesn't work well!

But yeah, now that the holidays are over, it looks like we're about to get pretty game-heavy again. OWBN and Sabbat on the 1st and 3rd weekends, Cammie on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays, and Paducah tossed in on Sundays that I feel like driving an hour and a half each way for game... :) If I feel like playing 3 games in one weekend... :)
