Friday, and time for the End of the Work Week Wisdom...

"All the jagged edges disappear / Colors are all brighter when you're here"
--"All the Love in the World" by Nine Inch Nails

So the rest of the song doesn't really go with that, but that line is a nice one. :)

I've finally gotten Yahoo! LaunchRadio working on my computer, and I'm having a blast with that. My main station right now is under melpomene_toreador, but I'm thinking of setting up my anneke_12 account to be nothing but goth. Cuz I like a lot of bands, but that makes for a rather eclectic radio station... :) This isn't all bad, but some days you just want a whole bunch of goth...

Wait, most days I just want a whole bunch of goth... *shrug*... whatever... :)

::..::

A few random things, after looking at my SiteMeter stats...

1) Someone was searching for Lucyfix lyrics. Whoever this person was should E-mail me, because I want to talk to people who have actually heard of Lucyfix... cuz we're a rare breed...

2) Someone wanted to hear "Specialist" by Interpol. Go to the Interpol site, and look for something about the show they did at the 9:30 Club in D.C., which was on NPR. That song rocks. :)

3) Someone was searching for "You who have never committed ritual suicide in your life!"... why do I have a feeling this was someone from the message boards for "Where Angels Fear to Tread"? :) Yeah, I posted it here once... too bad it's hard to find... ;p

Not much of excitement on the crafting front. I had a list of 7 crochet projects to work on. I finished one of them, and I consolidated two of them into a single project, which is getting close to done. So after that, four more to go. Well, probably more than that, as I keep getting other ideas of stuff I could do... like headbands and hair scarves and such. These seem like a good idea with the length my hair is at right now, and the fact that summer is coming... :)

I'm still listening to the new NIN. I listened to it about 3 times yesterday, and decided it was my best bet for waking me up this morning, as I'm really tired today. I'm gonna try to get to bed early tonight so that I'm not so tired tomorrow. And if I'm lucky, I'll get to bed at a reasonable hour (say midnight-ish) on Friday night, since I'm gonna have to wake up way early on Saturday for the yard sale... :(

But for today, I'd really like a nap. :)

Ohmygodohmygodohmygod.

I didn't know what music I was going to rant (or rave) about today, until today.

Someone I know found the entirety of "With Teeth," the new Nine Inch Nails, online. I am listening to it as I type. And ohmygod.

It's not old school NIN. It's not "Pretty Hate Machine." It's not the distorted, industrial insanity that used to be.

But it's also not "The Fragile," which was almost too wussy in spots. It's not a bunch of instrumental stuff.

It's Nine Inch Nails, they've just grown up some. They've gotten over the super moody (but not very angsty) phase, and they're back to being kinda angry. Not so bitter anymore, just angry.

And I like it. :)

I'm looking at the lyrics as I listen to it, and I just found the line "Well the tiniest little dot caught my eye." And I'm amused, because that sounds a lot like "Just then a tiny little dot caught my eye..." from "Down in It"... :)

Gah, now I can't wait till next Tuesday... I'm so going to have to go buy this THAT day. Wonder how late P-Mac is open?

Garou character creation on Friday went well enough. We had 16 players show up, and there's at least half a dozen I can think of off the top of my head who also plan on playing. And there may be close to another dozen on top of that who might play. So all in all, not too bad for a summer game. :) Looks like we're gonna be heavy on the Glass Walker end of things, and that's a good thing, since it is an urban caern. :)

Sabbat game on Saturday rocked, probably the most fun I've had yet. Like I said before, I like playing Ember. I like it even more when I can get two packs into what was almost a very bad situation, and yet we came out of it on top. And then the sect actually succeeded at one of our goals, despite a whole lot of setbacks. Now if we can just get the second objective accomplished early at the next game, things will be very good indeed. Cuz I would much rather become the priest of my pack than the ductus... :)

Ended up skipping Shards so I could go see "Sin City," but that's okay. I'll get back to that game one of these days... really, I will... :)

Haven't had a whole lot of movie watching time this week, but there has been a little bit.

I finished watching "Scarface" on Sunday morning, having started watching it last Sunday. Though it is particularly 80s, and rather violent, I liked it pretty well. :) Wasn't exactly what I had expected it to be (I thought it was an Italian mafia movie), but it was still pretty good.

Last night, we went and caught "Sin City" finally, which was AWESOME! I really liked the whole look of the movie... very film noir, and very sharp. I very much want to read the graphic novels now, because I think it's the sort of comic I could get into... :)

Other than that, I think I only watched stuff I had already seen before, like "Fellowship of the Ring" and parts of "Napoleon Dynamite" and "Chicago"... with all of the other stuff I've been doing, I've had almost no time to watch movies. Mostly I get a little bit of time to watch pieces of movies on the weekends at J's, and maybe one night a week, I sit down and watch something else. But now that rehearsals are starting up full force, I think it'll mostly be weekends that I can watch stuff, and that's about it.

And of course, that's if I'm not sitting around playing The Sims. ;)

w00t! Friday! The beginning of the week went by quickly enough, but since Wednesday, it's been dragging. So it's a very nice think to be at the end of the work week, just in time for the End of the Work Week Wisdom...

... of which I have none. No, wait, here's a good one...

"He's got the whole world in his pants."
--on my 'Scuse Me While I Kiss This Guy calendar for today

Yeah, that works. :)

Garou character creation tonight, Sabbat tomorrow, (in theory) Shards on Sunday, if I'm up to it. Was too tired to play the last time, but seeing as I haven't played for like a month, I ought to try to make it this weekend... :) This all depends, of course, on how late we stay out on Saturday night, and how early we have to get up on Sunday morning...

Stayed home yesterday, because I slept really poorly on Tuesday night, and felt completely out of it all day yesterday. I ended up watching "Fellowship of the Ring" and then playing The Sims for a few hours. I think I was only awake about 13 hours yesterday. I probably needed a recharge day, with all the go-go-go I've been doing lately.

Crafting stuff has died down lately, even though I have three crochet projects I'm currently working on, and other stuff planned. But that's more just whenever I have time stuff, not anything with a deadline. When you mostly make winter hats, and don't have any craft fairs planned in the near future, things die down a bit.

We do have a yard sale that we're doing next Saturday, though. Here's hoping that a) the weather will be good, and b) I won't get sunburned. The last one we did, in September of last year, was very bad for the sunburning bit. :(

And in other news, I got my hair cut yesterday afternoon. I should say trimmed, really, because it's still long-ish and straight. But I hadn't gotten my hair cut at all in well over a year, so the trim was to get three inches cut off. It's just at my shoulders now, which is still long enough to make me happy, but much cuter than it was. I think my hair had actually gotten to the point where it wasn't seeming much longer, despite me letting it grow out. So now it'll be more noticable, if I decide to let it grow again. I'm thinking I may want to keep it this length though... I can still do a lot with it, but I don't have to do anything with it if I don't want to. It may be too short for braids, but I can live... :)

Well, let's see here... lots of gaming and gaming related business this past weekend.

Friday was OWBN, which I was at for a few hours. I started and finished a hip scarf for Middle Eastern dance. There was a portion of the evening where I was desperately trying to figure out where and how I had messed up the pattern. I was ranting enough about it that Jane (Megan) checked Mel (me) for an active derangement. Nope, no derangement, just a Toreador who wants her art to be perfect... :) Lots of travelers, and I got to meet a couple of people whose names I recognized from the lists... always kewl to put names with faces... :)

Saturday, as I mentioned yesterday, the Nates and I went to St. Louis to scope out the site where we're setting our Garou game. It was great fun, and I think we all got some really neat ideas for plot stuff. So that's very kewl. Our character creation / information meeting is Friday, though I think it will be thinly attended. Most people won't actually need help making their characters, so that's okay. If it's thin, it also means we can get done at a reasonable hour, and I can get some sleep on a Friday night for once... :)

Saturday night was the Cammie game, 2nd to last one for the semester. Star is now hanging with the Nos, because she's good at distracting people while they sneak around... :) There were many very very wrong things done and said in the course of the evening, but it was a lot of fun... :) I'm surprised I wasn't more bitchy, but apparently with my lack of sleep, I bypassed bitchy and went straight to slap-happy... the caffeine and sugar might have had something to do with that... :)

Went and bought myself a new DVD player last night. It's possible that the old one still works, but highly doubtful. The new one works like a dream... :)

And I've actually watched quite a few movies over the past week...

"Terminator" - I had never seen this before, and J owned it, so we watched it the other night. I liked it quite a bit more than I anticipated I would, though part of my enjoyment was looking at just how 80s it was... :) I was also amused by the fact that there weren't any recognizable songs in it, probably because the budget wouldn't allow for it... :)

"Living in Oblivion" - One of the odd movies that I own, this got watched when I still didn't have a functioning DVD player... but my VCR works fine. It's an odd, not well-known, Steve Buscemi movie. I like it a lot, though the pace is a bit slow for most people...

"Scarface" - Well, I didn't watch all of this yet, because it's a long movie, we got started on it later than anticipated, and I kept getting phone calls (*). But from what I've seen of it so far, it's pretty good. I was surprised to learn that it wasn't a mafia movie... that was my perception of what it was, probably because Al Pacino is in it... :)

I also finished watching the new "Dawn of the Dead" (again), which was the last thing that my DVD player almost successfully played, and put on "Underworld" as background noise. I think I watched something else yesterday as well, but I can't recall what it was, if I did.

Well, aside from Robot Chicken, which is, indeed, the bomb.

::..::

In other news, related to the (*) above, I am now an aunt. My niece was born on Saturday, which also happens to be my sister's birthday. Still waiting on pictures from my mom, which she said she'd send when she got home.

In other other news, the Nates and I had a nice trip to St. Louis on Saturday, though I am still exhausted from that and the normal lack of weekend sleep. We had a gorgeous day for it, too, and J and I now have tons and tons of super good, super cheap, super fresh food. I'll be eating salads all week... :)

And here's the End of the Work Week Wisdom, because I'm back to actually working full weeks again...

"If I get there early will it be the right time
our heaven is just waiting so put your hand into mine
if I get too surly will you take that in stride
our boat is just there waiting so put your little hand in mine."

--"Specialist" by Interpol

Unfortunately, the one Interpol song that I've heard that I don't own... *pout*... and it's a really good song...

But yeah, until May (until after the play, actually), I'm working full weeks, every week. I am SO taking a vacation week in June... and maybe another at some other point, depending on what's going on this summer... ah, paid vacations... :)

In the meantime, though, before my vacations, I'm going to be super duper busy, and I can't complain about that too much, because being busy is infinitely preferable to being bored... :)

What is today, Thursday? This week has been odd, in that I was thinking almost all day yesterday that IT was Thursday... craziness, I know. :)

I've finished ALL of my promised craft projects, and now I'm kinda going "now what?" Actually, though, while my car was getting looked at this morning, I started two afghans. I have a large bag of what's left of the yarn from Randy's family member (I never found out exactly who) that is in baby-ish colors, so I'm making a couple more baby afghans. No one in mind to give those to yet, but there are sure to be more babies on the way for somebody I know, one of these days.

Michelle (my student worker) suggested a new project, though, when I was telling her about the evil cardinal that lives at J's and pecks at my mirrors... crocheted mirror covers. I like it, because it's utterly wrong. So I may very well do so. Shouldn't be too difficult at all, and I can use scrap yarn for them... :)

Other than that, I've got a busy night planned to night, with running around and cleaning and such. Tomorrow night is OWBN, though I'm planning to duck out around 10 p.m. or so, as the Nates are spending the night at my apartment. Saturday, we're getting up early and driving to St. Louis to hit Laumeier Sculpture Park and Soulard Market. Pictures are likely to ensue. I plan to take my cheap digicam and my normal camera, assuming I have film left.

Now, to plot how to NOT get sunburned on Saturday. Oi.

We take a brief departure from your regularly scheduled week to say...

I GOT THE PART!!!!!!!!!!!!

I auditioned for a play on Monday night, and I got the call last night, telling me that they wanted me for the part that I wanted to play! So I spent pretty much the rest of the evening bouncing around, calling and E-mailing people, etc.

The play is "Pure as the Driven Snow," and it runs May 26th-28th at the Carbondale Civic Center. It's a dinner theatre, and I'll be sure to post more details about tickets as soon as I know them... :)

Now, back to your regularly scheduled week... :)

::..::

So, "100 Years" actually rocks. It's a Cure tribute album, and I like it. There's either something wrong with me, or someone did something right. I'm gonna stick with the latter... :)

About my only complaint is that there are a few songs that I would have liked to see covered that weren't. Other than that, it's really good... there's not a single song on there that I dislike the cover of... Razed in Black does a particularly good "Disintegration"...

I actually got quite a bit of music over the course of the weekend. I bought what I thought was the newest Apocalyptica CD, Reflections, only to discover that they've put out a couple more since this one came out. I finally picked up some Joy Division, and of course snagged another goth comp. :) I can't resist them, dammit! :)

J also loaned me a bunch of My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult and Aphex Twin, both of which are super kewl. :) Oh, and before that, I borrowed Dope, Fear Factory, and Loreena McKennitt... (cue one of these things is not like the other...) Bryan, one of the newer Marion kids, gave me a Cherry Poppin' Daddies CD, as I had requested some new swing music for the next OWBN Elysium. Surprisingly, I really liked it... :) I'm just eclectic music girl, what can I say... :)

So yeah, gaming.

The battle royale was Friday night, and I think everyone got their fill of combat and chops. I can only hope. Personally, I didn't do much. I played a Daughter of Cacophany, because I really liked the idea of being able to give five people the derangement of my choice, and bidding 21 traits when doing so. Yeah, sick and wrong. It didn't work as well as I wanted it to, and while I was the first to act in that combat, the first round then went on for an hour and forty minutes, during which time I did nothing else... well, I played errand girl, but that was cuz it involved walking (and driving), rather than standing in one spot... :)

Sabbat game on Saturday was really good. I'm thoroughly enjoying playing Ember, and it's not just because I finally got to wear my super cute Lip Service dress (found at Goodwill for cheap!). She's definitely much more outgoing and team-player oriented than Paz ever was, so this means that people are much more likely to like her. It also helps matters that Tzimisce are rare in this game (just not that many people play them!), and once summer rolls around, she'll likely be one of two Tzimisce in the city... so yeah, very useful talent. :)

That, and she's just fun to play. Even though my southern accent is crappy as all hell, it's fun to play a character with an accent. It makes it much more clear when I'm IC. And it's always fun to see the reactions I get when people ask me what I do. Cuz granted, it's more about what I did prior to my Embrace, but it means I assembled a lot of useful little talents... :)

And I'm finding it far easier to go in the direction of Death and the Soul than I did going in the direction of Power and the Inner Voice. I know Death and the Soul. I've already started acting like I'm there, in large part... so this will make it far easier when the time comes to make the test to go on the path... :)

::..::

In other news, my office was an oven yesterday. It's much more reasonable today. And if it gets warm again, I'm dressed for it, and I have a fan. And while I was mostly joking when I told my boss we could just douse our heads with water and run fans pointing directly at them, it would work... :)

Movies... hmmm... well, my DVD player is on the fritz, so I haven't watched a whole lot... caught pieces of "Spider-Man 2" and "Queen of the Damned" over the weekend, while hanging out at J's, because he borrowed them from me... :)

The only movie I really sat down and watched this week was "Shock Treatment." For those who don't know, it's the quasi-sequel to "Rocky Horror Picture Show." It's also a relatively crappy movie. But I love it. :) I saw it when I lived in Kirksville, because I think Jennie owned it. I found a copy when Circus Video (in C-dale) was going out of business, and bought it for a dollar. It's worth about that much. :) I like to inflict it on the unsuspecting, but unfortunately I talk about it often enough that there are very few unsuspecting among my friends... :)

In actuality, it's not completely atrocious. It, like the 2nd and 3rd Crow movies, partially suffers from being a sequel to a really good (cult) movie. But they didn't get the original actors for Brad and Janet, and those are the only two main characters that appear in the sequel. The actors who played Riff Raff, Magenta, Columbia, the man with no neck, and maybe one or two others are there, but they're playing different characters. So it's kinda weird.

But hey, Richard O'Brien. I like him. :)

Still haven't seen "Sin City." Dunno when that might happen. Next week, maybe? Damn being busy. :(

Well, the selling of craftiness at E-con was rather disappointing. Steve did reasonably well, but that was mostly on custom items. Jesi and Cristyn sold the bulk of their stuff, but at a substantial discount, just to get rid of it. I sold a few things, but with really low prices, I didn't make much money. Ah well.

I'm almost to the point of having no immediate projects. Both of the afghans for future children are done, and Assie's monkey is almost done. Actually, the monkey itself is done, but she requested clothes for it... which is kewl, it's an interesting experiment to see how that works out... :) Right now, the monkey is getting a vest and a fez, because what kind of well-dressed monkey doesn't have a vest and fez. Neither will be red, however, as I'm opposed to red fezes at the moment. People who were at E-con will understand... :)

In other news, I'm in a funk right now, and I know what would solve it, but that isn't an option at the moment. That sucks. :( Hopefully I'll be doing better by the end of the day... I have a bunch of stuff I should get done tonight, but if I'm still in a funk after work, I probably won't do any of it... :(

Musical ranting. Nope, not much for this week. Other than the fact that I pretty much hate the vast majority of what's on the radio currently. This is why 9 times out of 10, if I have to go any great length of distance in my car (which does include the 7 mile drive to Murphysboro), I'll put in a CD.

There are a few exceptions, of course. I'm digging the new Garbage song, or at least most of it. And the stations around here occasionally play Interpol or NIN. But mostly, I find myself more and more hoping that they're going to be doing one of the retro shows.

I don't want to think that I'm getting to the point where I only want to hear old music... I always thought that my parents were stuck in the music of their youth, and I never wanted to be like that. I like hearing new music. It's just that so much of what is on the radio is totally designed for the purpose of being on the radio, and it lacks any real significance. Alternative has become pop. And I hate pop.

So this is why I listen to stuff like Slaghuis, and try to pick up on what new bands people I know (or know of) are listening to. I want to listen to the stuff that isn't mainstream, because that's where the real talent is.

Forgive me if this doesn't make much coherent sense; I stayed up past my bedtime working on my character for the Battle Royale on Friday... ;)

Well, no movies to report on, as I didn't really have much time to watch any movies this past week. Well, I watched most of "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory," but that's about it. I want to go see "Sin City," maybe this week, but we'll have to see.

As to the gaming front, played in OWBN on Friday, and ran Orpheus on Saturday.

OWBN: Not much going on here, though Mel finally got to meet the infamous Trista Nadia... that was fun... especially cuz my friend Karyn plays her... :) Mainly, though, I spent the bulk of my night half helping, half messing with a brand new ghoul. I left before the combat started, though I was there for portions of it OOC, waiting for J to get done with what he needed to do before we could leave.

Orpheus: Nathan tells me that this game did not suck, but I wasn't too pleased with the way it went. I only had three players, and none of them were very familiar with the Orpheus world. This isn't necessarily a problem, but unfortunately I'm not too familiar with the Orpheus world, so there was a lot of "hmm, lemme check" moments... or me just making stuff up from what I could remember... :) Anyway, yeah. We'll see if we try dusting off Orpheus again next year, or whether I just let it collect dust on my shelf for a while. Probably the latter, is my guess.

::..::

In other news, it's spring, and I'm happy! It's nice to have the heat off, and the windows open a little bit, and the ability to wear shorts and flip flops... especially when you've made two pairs of fuzzy flip flops thus far... :)

Because every time I see that movie, I'm reminded how much I like it, and how much I'm looking forward to seeing Johnny Depp in the remake... :)

And now, off to the weekend of gaming insanity... except that I'm not really going to be playing much of anything...
