Random ramblings cuz I have nothing better to do... or something... :)
This is the site formerly known as Anneke's Haven. Within, you will find information about my previous White Wolf chronicles, and other random gaming related stuff. I also have a blog here, where I talk about pretty much everything and anything, though it's primarily about my exciting life... the definition of exciting definitely being up for debate.
Enjoy your visit, and come back soon!
Since I didn't game much this weekend, and watched a whole ton of movies, we'll do movies today... :)
"Swing Kids" - I had already seen this one, but I found it for $5.50 at Wal-Mart, so I picked it up on Saturday and watched it. I like it lots, cuz the music is great, and cuz Christian Bale and Sean Patrick Leonard are both in it... :)
"Bourne Identity" - Hadn't seen this one before, but J had borrowed it, so we watched it on Sunday. Good stuff, and now I want to see the sequel. :)
"Madagascar" - Conspiratorial penguins and monkeys talking about flinging poo? What more could you possibly want out of a movie? :) Ooh, and it has a great song/dance number... :) I was quite amused, as was J. :)
"Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" - Another one that I had seen before, many times. But I just like it. It's so beautiful.
"Conan the Destroyer" - Okay, apparently I'm a heathen again. I liked this one better than I liked "Conan the Barbarian." :) But Arnold's acting is so much better in this one!
"Kill Bill Vol. 1" - Of course, I had seen it before. The thing I found amusing about the second time watching this is that once you've seen the 2nd one, and know "The Bride's" actual name, you notice that if you watched the first one closely, you could have already known it... :)
So yeah, I watched a lot of movies this weekend. This is what happens when you go for almost a whole month without watching very many movies. This is also what happens when you have a couple of days, during which you have little else to do than get your laundry done... :)
::..::
In other news, my neck, shoulders, and back are sore. I think this is largely because I'm tired. I got plenty of sleep Friday and Sunday nights, and a reasonable amount on Saturday night (well, really that was Sunday), but very little sleep last night. I'm not complaining, just commenting. :) .

I've had my End of the Work Week Wisdom ready to go since Monday morning. w00t for that! :)
"They sound like what would happen if the White Stripes and Interpol got into a fight, and only the survivors were allowed to be in the new band." --J, on Elefant
And it's true, too... :)
The first night of the play went relatively well, so only two more nights to go. I am SO looking forward to this being done, as this has been the longest week known to man, and I'm ready to have some weeks of being lazy. Oh, I'm so ready for that... :) .

Dammit, I dunno why my comments aren't working. Jeff, if you had told me what you wanted me to crochet in the comments, E-mail me instead, cuz I haven't been able to look at the comments since I told you to tell me what you wanted... :)
My afghan will almost definitely be done by the time the play is over. I'm gonna try to work on it a little after work today, if I have time, and will probably spend part of Saturday afternoon working on it too, depending on when Mom and Sarah arrive.
Not sure what the next project after that is, but I think I have a vague idea... it's just a matter of determining whether I can make the next intended project out of yarn I have, or whether I will have to go buy more yarn. Cuz whatever I make next MUST come out of yarn that I already have, cuz I have too much. Yeah, it's true. :)
In other news, I had the strangest dream last night, especially as it involved the annoying drunk girls from the Interpol show, except we were friends with them. There was also a D&D game at my dad's house involved... very bizarre...
In other other news, the play opens tonight. I'm beginning to get nervous. Countdown to showtime: 10 hours. Eek! .

Sure, I'm listening to part of it, might as well mention it. :)
"Covered in Black: A Tribute to AC/DC"... I'm not quite sure what to think of this. On the one hand, I'm not really a big AC/DC fan. On the other hand, there are some good bands on here... Electric Hellfire Club doing "Highway to Hell," Razed in Black doing "Hell's Bells"... can't complain too much about either of those.
But still, it's weird to listen to goth bands covering songs that you know to be covers, but you're not really sure what the original sounds like... :) That's not the case for maybe half of the songs on this CD, but the other half are new to me...
In other music related news, I've discovered that one of my LaunchCast stations isn't working too well, because I've tried to go all heavy goth with it, and LaunchCast just doesn't have enough of that type of music available. So I started it up this morning to be greeted by two KIDS songs in a row... cuz they're popular on LaunchCast stations... I am so sick of those words... *grumble*... no, just because other people want to hear Mariah Carey doesn't mean I do... *grumble*...
::..::
In other news, still without a car. Hoping to have it this weekend, but suspecting I won't see it till next week. Might have to call over to Saturn to see if they've got any real clue about when I'll get it back, or if it's still sort of ephemeral. .

OWBN got cancelled on Friday, which turned out to be okay, as it meant that the game wasn't lacking anyone in a position of authority for the better part of the evening. Well, I was pleased to not have to go, at least. :)
Sabbat on Saturday was an excellent time. First off, Ember finally had a plan that worked. w00t! :) Second off, Ember is raking in the students like you wouldn't believe. That's what happens when you come into game already in training for a path that isn't currently available in the game, and that is relatively desirable among the scholarly type characters. That's right, I'm playing another Necronomist... and making people call them that, too... :) I'm sure Seth H. is proud... :)
It's kewl, too, because the ducti are generally willing to let me take their packmates for training during game, which means that we're going to have a lot of fun roleplaying to do. Ooh, next game I should make them all watch Ember feed... that'll be fun... :)
Got Garou game coming up this weekend, though I'll only be there for maybe an hour or so, and Nathan won't be there at all, leaving Nate to run most things on his own. Well, it'll be okay. I've got a good chunk of the players helping out with things, so all should run smoothly even in the absence of 2 STs. :)
::..::
In other news, I'm tired. And anxiously looking forward to my long weekend. And my upcoming vacation. But that's not for another couple of weeks yet. :) .

Well, if a person is a heathen for not thinking Episode 3 was the bomb, call me a heathen. Cuz I wasn't nearly as impressed as I was hoping to be.
It wasn't that the good parts weren't good... it was just that the bad parts were so atrociously bad that they made me want to vomit. :)
Something interesting that I've noticed, though. People who have been alive long enough to have seen the first three movies, particularly when they were small children, are not impressed by these new ones. People who have grown up with the first three movies being old news are much more impressed by the new ones.
Now I'll give you that visually, the newer movies are amazing. Technology will do that for you every time... but the overall quality of the movies is not that good. The dialogue is mostly lame, quippy one-liners, a lot of the characters are just there for laughs, and it's generally just plain silly.
And I liked Yoda better when he was a puppet.
And I liked R2-D2 when he wasn't a frickin' ninja robot, with all kinds of crazed contraptions and equipment that he never had before... which was actually later... right.
And oh how I long for the old copies of the original three movies, in all their COMPLETELY UNALTERED glory. Give them to me the way I saw them in the theater, as a VERY small child. That's what I want.
::..::
In other movie related news, "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" looks amusing. I will have to see "Fantastic 4," on general principle.
I want to see "The Chronicles of Narnia" desperately badly. It looks amazing. CGI amazing, but amazing nonetheless. :) And no, J, it's not Peter Jackson... ah well... :(
"Madagascar" next weekend! :) .

Well, it's not very novel, but here is the End of the Work Week Wisdom for all my loyal readers...
"Suddenly! A movement in the corner of the room! And there is nothing I can do When I realise with fright That the spiderman is having me for dinner tonight!" --"Lullaby" by The Cure
Meh, I like it. :)
In other news, I get to call shortly to get picked up to go get the car that I'm renting for the weekend. Though I have access to a spare car, I decided to make sure that I would have transportation all weekend... will probably do it again next weekend, if I won't be getting my car back by next Friday. Ah, the Saturn people will love me, cuz I'm gonna annoy them Thursday till they give me a definite yes/no answer. :)
And in other other news, happy 21st birthday, Nate! You know, I realized on my walk to work this morning that this makes you and Megan almost the same age... *sigh*... I'm not getting old, dammit, everyone else is just making me feel that way! :) .

Well, one nice thing that I've discovered is that by the end of this play, I'm probably going to have a new afghan almost all of the way done. I've had several of the other cast members ask me what I'm working on, and why it always seems like I'm starting "a new one"... well, the afghan is being done in strips, and so I am always starting a new one... :) Actually, though, if my guesstimates are right, I started the last strip last night, and will start on the 2nd stage of each strip tonight, once that last strip is done. And then, when I've finished the 2nd stage on all of the strips, I can start putting it together... :)
But yeah, that's pretty much all I'm working on right now. I made a pair of slippers earlier in the week, and they're terribly cute, but totally impractical. Especially since it's summer. But I suppose when I start running the A/C all the time, it might be nice to have them to put on if I'll be home for a while.
Ah, being home for a while... now that's a novel concept. :) Well, 5 more days of rehearsal, 3 days of shows, and then I'm done with this play. This is not to say that I won't audition for something in the fall, or next year, but it will be nice to have a break for a while... it'll be nice to have evenings during the week where I could go "hey, let's go see a movie"... :)
And yeah, probably crochet more... :) .

No new music this week, and nothing to rant about, really. Well, other than Journey... but that's been a long term rant, and is nothing really beyond the fact that I just don't like them. :)
This is inspired, of course, by the fact that J has been listening to the classic rock station alot lately, which is not a problem in the slightest. For all of my love of goth music, I'm a HUGE classic rock fan as well. Hell, I have two classic rock stations pre-programmed on my car radio (*sniffle*... I miss my car...). But when listening to classic rock on the radio, you inevitably end up hearing Journey... while when I listen to the classic rock I have at home, I don't own any Journey, and can thus avoid it... :)
I've decided that I need to go buy a copy of The Wall on CD, and maybe some other CDs as well. I need more stuff by The Doors, definitely, as I only have three of their songs. Yeah, I like the more trippy, drug influenced stuff... hence my designation of being the goth-hippie-grunge-punk girl... :)
::..::
In other news, the ETA of the return of my car is the end of next week. Here's hoping I can get it by next Friday, at the latest. I can deal with not having a car during the week, but it becomes more difficult when I don't have a car on the weekends. Luckily, at least half of this weekend is covered, and I'm working on ways to cover the other half. If I can get that all sorted out, I will be a much happier camper. .

So this past weekend was my first foray back into STing in a while, and it was nice. Dredging Up Bones is the name of our new Garou game, and thus far, it seems like it's going to be a blast. We're probably only playing for the summer, and I like the idea of the short term game, as while it does require work, it's a limited amount of work, with a pre-defined ending. At least in theory. :)
We've got about 20 players, give or take, and that's not too bad. A whole bunch of cubs, another bunch of cliath, and a small handful of fostern. So that makes for some fun roleplaying, as not everyone is on precisely the same level.
And we've set the game at one of my favorite places in the whole world, Laumeier Scuplture Park. My only regret is that we can't take the whole game there. But 3 of the players, and all three of the STs, have all been up there, so that's pretty kewl.
Anyways, we're just getting stuff off the ground at the moment, but we've got some good plans for the future... so that will be kewl... and as I just had a really good idea, I'm off... :) .

Watched a bunch of old movies that I've had for a while over the past week, so nothing too exciting to report on there.
I still need to see "Hitchhiker's Guide" and "Kingdom of Heaven." Unfortunately, my guess is that this won't happen, because, as J and I discussed last night, with me having rehearsal every night of the week, we just don't have time to go see movies. That's why we're having to see Episode 3 the Sunday after it comes out and such.
We're also both anxiously awaiting "Madagascar," because conspiritorial penguins rock. I think it's gonna be a really cute movie, and last I checked, it comes out Memorial Day weekend, which means we'll have time to go see it that weekend. Woo hoo! :)
Well, we'll have time to see it after the play is over, that is. 2 more weeks of rehearsals and performances, and then I'm done. w00t! :)
In other news, I got into a car accident on Saturday afternoon. I'm fine, my car is not fine. I dunno for sure when I'll be getting her back. :( Maybe I should look into the bus route... though it being during the break, it's probably pretty pathetic... :( .

Been trying to come up with one all morning, but I am lacking in End of the Work Week Wisdom this week. Ah well. One week with no wisdom shouldn't kill anyone... :)
Anyways, had there been anything, it would have probably involved something about pissing in Cheerios, and that's just not right... :)
I am glad it's Friday, though, and I'm definitely looking forward to Garou tomorrow, even though I'm going to end up with 9 cubs (8 of whom should be there tomorrow), which means I'm going to have my hands full for a few games, until I can send them off on their Rite of Passage and be done with them... :) Not that I don't love my little cubs, but it does hamper the ST staff when one of them has to spend all of her time IC... :)
It'll all be good, though, because I think we have good plans. And good plans are even better than just plain old plans. :)
So tonight I have rehearsal as usual, and then get to hang out with some people, though the exact plans are completely non-existent. Hanging out works, though. :)
In the meantime, I suppose I should work... .

Gah! The play opens in 2 weeks! Gah!
I have all of my act 1 lines memorized, and pretty much all of my act 3 lines memorized. I'm not so good on act 2, but that's what we're rehearsing today and tomorrow, so hopefully I'll be all good on them by tomorrow night... :)
But it's still kinda freaky to think that we start performing in 2 weeks! A bit stressful, if nothing else, which probably does contribute greatly to why I've been so freaked out over the past couple of weeks. It's getting a whole lot better, but I'm still a lot on edge, and it's hard to curb that once it gets started.
Deep breaths, or something...
Don't know what's going on after rehearsal tomorrow yet, but Garou is Saturday, so most of my Saturday is booked up with that. I think we're ready for it... :) .

Well, not much music to talk about at the moment. Still playing around with my LaunchCast stations, and occasionally being very happy when I find something I can't believe is on there. Like the "Velvet Goldmine" soundtrack. That made me super happy! :)
Oooh, oooh, cover rant! :)
So Duran Duran apparently has an entire CD of cover songs. This is one of those half and half sort of things. I love Duran Duran, and I always have. But some of their covers are just BAD. I know I mentioned "911 is a Joke" here before. BAD. But I love their cover of "Thank You." So I guess I'm gonna have to take it song by song, as I hear them.
Oh, and U2 does a cover of "Satelite of Love"... I'm kinda baffled by this one, because I really like that song, but I don't really like U2, but I kinda maybe like their cover?! It's confusing in my brain, too. :)
And "With Teeth" still rocks my world. :) .

Well, let's see. Friday was the second "Formal Elysium" for the OWBN game, and I was miserable. I didn't want to be there in the first place, but went anyway. Luckily, we only stayed till about 10 p.m., so at least I wasn't there all night. And I got an extra XP for planning all the casino night stuff. I heard that things picked up a bit after we left with the card playing, but I missed all of that. Ah well, people seemed to have fun, so I guess that works. And I did get to wear a really cute dress... :)
Saturday was Sabbat, and it went relatively well. Not particularly well for Ember, but well for the sect as a whole. The brilliant planning I had done flopped horribly, because the target ended up having Majesty... damn Toreador... :( But then the rest of them almost tooled her, and did end up tooling the Scourge, so that was a good thing. They also took out a sniper who has been killing us left and right, so that's another good thing.
Looking forward now to the first Garou game, which is on Saturday. Still quite a bit of stuff to do for that, but we're working through it... :)

It's been a busy, but very quick, morning... hence why I'm posting so much later than usual.
Didn't watch many movies last week, though. I watched "The Two Towers" on Saturday, and "Pirates of the Carribean" and "Velvet Goldmine" yesterday. I usually can grab enough time to watch a movie after work, before rehearsal, if I start it almost as soon as I'm home, and it's not a long movie. But most afternoons, I've had other things to work on for game, and, ya know, keeping my apartment somewhat clean...
I very much want to go see "Hitchhiker's Guide" and "Kingdom of Heaven," but still have very little time in which I might do so. And, of course, I'm ANXIOUSLY awaiting Episode 3. People were talking about it at game on Friday, so I sat and calculated what the Sunday after it comes out will be, and J and I are planning to see it then, as I don't think we can see it before then. :)
::..::
In other news, we have long been theorizing on ways to stop or slow down time (like when you're having fun), and also ways to speed up time (like when you're at work). Michelle, my student worker, theorizes now that if you eat cereal with soy milk, time speeds up. This theory is yet to be tested, because while I do have cereal, I'm not so sure about the soy milk. Maybe I'll try it one of these days.
Then, of course, we'll have to keep a box of cereal and soy milk here at work. :) .

Blah... I've had so little free time, there is very little crafting going on. A bit of crochet, here and there, but that's about it. My list of projects continues to grow, and I make very little progress toward it.
In other artistic endeavors, though, the play is going very well. I have my lines for acts 1 and 3 pretty much memorized, and I'm getting there on act 2. Act 2 is where I have my biggest part, though it's at the beginning of the act, and then I'm done for the rest of the act. So that's kewl. That's what we're rehearsing tonight, and so I may be able to bust out of there by about 8:15 or so. That will be kinda kewl. :)
21 days till the play starts, though. Little bit nervous, as is to be expected, but not too bad. I mean, c'mon. I sit at game and make an utter fool of myself on a weekly basis... how bad can it be to get up and act in front of 250 people... who are totally expecting silliness... :)
At least I don't have to have a silly accent... :) .

So, music. Well, as I mentioned before, I've been listening to an awful lot of Yahoo! LaunchCast lately, because they seem to play a lot of really good stuff. I'm still working on training my stations to play what I want to hear, and not the crap that is popular on other LaunchCast stations, but it's taking some time.
Still, if you're interested in seeing what I've got lined up (though you won't be able to skip the crap that they toss in there from time to time), here are the stations I've made so far... :)
Anneke's Station - This is my goth station, though I am still having to tweak it to make it ONLY goth stuff. There's also a slight problem in that LaunchCast seems to be lacking about EVERYTHING that my favorite bands have put out. So for now, you'll get lots of NIN, Type O Negative, and Bauhaus. And other bands of that variety.
Techno Station - This is where I've put all the techno bands that I like, and some that I haven't even heard of. I haven't tweaked this one all that much yet, so it's the most likely to give you a bunch of stuff that doesn't fit the mold...
90s alternative - This was originally going to be predominantly female artists, of the variety that my friend Bryan used to call "wuss rock"... Sarah McLachlan and that sort of stuff. I've shifted it more to early 90s alternative, but still with a lot of female singers/bands, and a little bit of 80s tossed in too.
Mel's Station - EVERYTHING. Seriously. It's goth, grunge, punk, techno... pretty much anything that I would listen to... :)
Oh, and all of them have Interpol. Because I love Interpol. :)
In other music news, I had a little bit of time to kill between the time I dropped J off at home last night, and the time I had to get to rehearsal, so I picked up "With Teeth"... and then proceeded to drive down Hwy. 13 with "The Hand that Feeds" blaring loudly out of my pathetic speakers. It was still fun, though. :) .

Game... yeah, there was game, I think. Oh yeah, Cammie game. That was all. :) Twas a good time, though, cuz as much as Star hated having the Puppet Master in her head, Dawn was having a lot of fun with it. The only thing I don't like about Telepathy type powers is that even the stuff that I wasn't saying aloud, the other players could hear. Some of that was funny, but it means they also heard me trying to plot on some of them... :(
But yeah, that was the only LARP or role playing game this weekend... we played Civ (the board game) on Friday night, though, and that was fun. :) They've changed it a lot, but it meant that J and I got to be the purple team and we OWNED South America. :) Then we tried to go to Africa, and people didn't like that, cuz we would have gotten two monopolies (and possibly a good start on a third) had we succeeded... :)
Anyways, this weekend will be full of games, between the OWBN Elysium and the Sabbat game. Whee! :)

Couple of movies this week, though only one was new.
"Miracle Mile" - This was a movie that J had remembered seeing quite some time ago. We actually had to search on IMDB for it, and then I found a copy on eBay, which I bought for him (and so that I could see it too). It's a very 80s, but very good movie. I was particularly amused by the costuming... :) It's also got a very 80s feel because of the idea of extreme paranoia about nuclear war. There were parts of it where I said that only in the 80s could such a thing be taken as seriously as these characters were taking it... :)
"Beetlejuice" - oh, I've seen this one plenty of times. I just finally bought a copy of it. :) I think Gabe had it on VHS, but I didn't have it... so I finally broke down and bought it. And loved it. "I am alone. I am utterly alone." :)
I also reacquired a copy of the Type O Negative video collection, "After Dark." Unfortunately, there's something wrong with the way I've got my TV hooked up to my DVD player, I think, because the sound quality is really shitty. I've noticed it on a few other DVDs I have, but mostly it's on that one. I think it's the connection. I need to find some A/V cables and hook up the TV to the ghetto stereo... hopefully that will solve part of the problem... :)
In other news, the yard sale went well, and I got a lot of nifty stuff, mostly for the purposes of crafting. And presents for J. Because I finally found him a portable bar kit, after wanting to buy him one 7 and 1/2 months ago (at the last yard sale)... :) .
