Random ramblings cuz I have nothing better to do... or something... :)
This is the site formerly known as Anneke's Haven. Within, you will find information about my previous White Wolf chronicles, and other random gaming related stuff. I also have a blog here, where I talk about pretty much everything and anything, though it's primarily about my exciting life... the definition of exciting definitely being up for debate.
Enjoy your visit, and come back soon!
Yeah, I guess the craftiness has picked up a little bit. I made a scarf that I was commissioned to make for Jim, and it turned out quite nice. :) Working on a purse for Jesi now, which she requested. Still working on the Aqua Teen Hunger Force dolls, though not much. I might someday finish the shrug that I started a while ago, or I might just undo the whole thing because I hate it. And then there's one other project in the works, which I need to work on more, but haven't had much of a chance to work on. *sigh*... but it's a sekrit, so no details. :)
I'd still like to do some stuff other than crochet, but crochet is easy, portable, and uses up some of the yarn in my living room closet, which is preventing me from getting to other parts of said closet. Or maybe that's all the crap that I have crammed into that closet. :) Cindy said something about working on crafts in her basement, if we can get it a little more cleaned up, so while that won't work well for any of my fabric / fiber type crafts, it might work for me to try out some decoupage... which seems like it would be a blast... :)
And I want to write, dammit, but I can't seem to find time for that. Probably because writing is not an endeavor that can be multi-tasked, and I'm all about the multi-tasking. Too many interests, not enough frickin' time. :( .

Well, I promised a post about music, and here goes. :) This is inspired, of course, by the CD that Bobert made for me last week, and the 10 CDs I bought on Saturday... yeah, 10. I like sales. :)
First off, out of the stuff Bobert burned for me, I got the new Gorillaz CD. Good stuff, all around. I haven't really picked out a favorite song or two yet, but "Feel Good Inc." is a catchy little tune. :)
Now, the CDs I bought... :)
"Ferment" by Catherine Wheel - the only one of theirs that I didn't have previously, and I'm super glad I got it, cuz it's good. :)
"Stabbing Westward" by Stabbing Westward - the only one of theirs that I didn't have previously, and also their last CD. It's not as good as some of their earlier stuff (I think "Wither Blister Burn + Peel" will always be my favorite SW CD), but it's still not bad. :)
"The Dresden Dolls" by The Dresden Dolls - this was one that Bobert had given me, in its entirety, but the CD has a video on it (no, I still haven't bothered to watch it), and the CD case itself is pretty... plus there's lyrics in there... :)
"Zoso" / "IV" by Led Zeppelin - I dunno what people really want to call this. All I know is that I almost bought it on 8-track many years ago, when I had an 8-track player in my car. Now I finally have the CD. I know it's odd that I like Led Zeppelin, but in high school, I was the weird girl who listened to weird obscure new wave / early alternative, as well as listening to the classic rock that my friends liked. I'm eclectic. :)
"Hiding in Waiting" by Rosetta Stone - I had such a hard time not picking up everything with the Cleopatra logo on it. This one, though, I decided I had to have. :)
"Vive Le Rock" by Adam Ant - back in the day, I used to check out records from the library and copy them to tape. This was one of the ones I had copied. It's nice to hear it without the record noise and skips... :)
"Babylon and On" by Squeeze - I think I had this one on cassette, back in the day. I love Squeeze... :)
And then I bought 3 CDs for J, but put them all on my harddrive before I gave them to him... :)
"Archetype" by Fear Factory - I knew he didn't have this, cuz I borrowed the two that he did have from him a while back. Not totally my thing, but good nonetheless. And he likes them a lot. :)
"Portishead" by Portishead - because it's only fair that he gets the Portishead CD, since he was sweet enough to bring me the two he did have before we even went out... :) And Portishead just plain rocks... :)
"Guero" by Beck - because the copy he got wouldn't work in his computer... or my car... or my computer... so it was probably not a good copy... :) Good CD, overall, that reminds me of "Mellow Gold" and him of "Odelay"... mainly cuz I don't think he's heard "Mellow Gold"... :)
And, in other music news, I have LimeWire on my computer now, and ohmygod is it sick. I've already started collecting the Placebo songs that I don't have, because it's almost impossible to get their CDs here. I'm picking up random Interpol songs that I didn't even know existed! And I'm constantly cursing the idiocy of my fellow humans. I promise, "Don't You Forget About Me" is not by The Cure or any number of other bands you people list it under. *sigh*... .

Well, it was a thin game weekend, but a good one, nonetheless. Had the totem quests to run for Garou, and I think they all went relatively well... well, mostly... :)
Mine, personally, went very well, and I could have kept running for another few hours... but as I have no sense of how long my stuff will take, I got them far enough for the totem to take them, and as I was floundering a little on the plot, and it was late, I finished it up there. Of course, now I've thought of how it could have kept going, but it was a good time to wrap it up anyway... :)
This weekend has the potential to be super game heavy, if there is actually OWBN on Friday. Still up in the air, or so it would seem... There's also the possibility of Paducah on Sunday, but that depends somewhat on whether or not J works on Monday. It's the 4th of July, but he thinks they might be open... how weird! .

Oh yes, there are some movies to report on. :)
First off, on Friday night, a whole bunch of us piled into the theatre to see "Land of the Dead." Now I'm not a big zombie flick fan. I watch them on occasion, and avoid the ones that are particularly gory or involve sharp wooden implements being driving into someone's eye socket (okay, that's only one movie, but still... GAH!). "Land of the Dead" was only a zombie movie in the way in which "From Dusk Till Dawn" was a vampire movie. Yes, both of these movies feature the above mentioned baddies, but they're both more about other things than the baddies. In this case, "Land of the Dead" was an action flick with zombie baddies. And we were not impressed.
I also hit the big sale at Plaza Records this weekend, and picked up four DVDs. Though I was a bit frustrated that like the last 3 or 4 movies I bought at Wal-Mart were ALL in the cheap DVD bin, I'm pleased with the news ones I snagged. I got "Ladyhawke" and "Excalibur" for my 80s fantasy movie fix, "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil" because it's a great movie, and "Snow White" (I think it has Sam Neill and Susan Sarandon in it) because I've never seen it, but have always wanted to. It can't be too atrocious, right? And even if it is, it was only $2.50. :)
In other news, I also bought a whole lot of CDs at the sale, but that's for Wednesday... :) .

Yes, I know I didn't post yesterday. I didn't have any crafty stuff to talk about. So there. :p
So now, End of the Work Week Wisdom. Brought to you by enough emo to choke a horse. :)
"You told me that the daylight burned you and that the sunrise was enough to kill you I said maybe you're a vampire You said it's quite possible I feel truly dead inside." --"Trouble Breathing" by Alkaline Trio
Thank you, Bobert, for giving me my emo fix, which I'm sure will last me the rest of my life. I hate emo. But I love Alkaline Trio... such a paradox... :)
::..::
In other news, jumping on the trampoline and swimming at night are both kewl, because they're fun, and when they're at night, they don't involve evil sunlight. And, oddly, I suppose that ties in nicely with my EotWWW. :)
Someday, I may be tan... ish... but I much prefer being translucent... or invisible, depending on who you ask... :) .

Okay, MUST GO CD SHOPPING! SOON!
Seriously, though, I've spent like NO money on crap this month. I bought two pairs of shoes and a DVD in St. Louis, but that was out of cash I had on me. I also bought the yarn I needed for my ATHF dolls, but that was also out of cash I had on me. So I could definitely afford to go CD shopping... and I like CDs... :) As soon as I find out what's going on tonight, I think I may make plans to go to P-Mac... woo hoo! :)
I do have a little new music, as Bobert has Alkaline Trio stuff, and has made me one CD. We're gonna be swapping some CDs in the near future, as he's got a lot of stuff I want. Just gotta find out which bands he wants CDs by... :)
In other news, I think it's finally summer here, and that blows chunks. It's supposed to be a high of 95 on Sunday... :( This will make the laundromat super hot, and then make it so we don't want to do anything after the laundry is done... *sigh*... :( .

Well, let's see here...
OWBN was Friday, and I had Toreador to play with! :) There were a whole whopping four (and then five) of us, which was a nice change. We always have fun when there are more Toreador, especially when they're crazy like Elizabeth and Mel... :) And we didn't even drive Aunt Julia too insane when she showed up... well, not too insane... :) Ended up missing out on the big combat, but that's totally okay by me. It meant we were out of there by shortly after midnight, which was a good thing. :)
Sabbat was Saturday, and I should have known the night would be bad when I lost my feeding chop and nightmares chop in quick succession. Then again, I generally can't win chops against J to save my life, so yeah... :) Feeding scene was almost a disaster, but Jo-Joe saved the day. The rest of the night was pretty much a disaster. I even showed up to the combat, but then got chased away from it. That seems to happen a lot... everyone shows up to the combat, and then a good 3/4 or more of us are driven away by something... I suppose that makes life easier on the STs, as there are less people involved, but I think that sometimes the "driving away force" ends up being slightly more effective than anticipated...
Now, getting ready for Garou game this coming Saturday, which should be a blast. All three of the packs should be going on their totem quests. I've got the basic outline for my assigned pack ready, and I think I'm going to enjoy running it. I think they'll like playing through it, too... just as long as I can evoke the mood I'm going for, this should be good... :)
::..::
In other news, I got a cable modem at home, which is rockin'. Much better than dial-up, plus it means that when Nathan moves into my spare room, we can both be online at the same time. It also means that I can take the phone cord down off of the ceiling of my living room and spare room... :)
And by that, I mean get J or Nathan to do it, cuz I'm short... ;) .

Well, yet another Monday. And yet more movies to talk about.
"Battle Royale" - I watched this with the sound mostly turned off, because it had subtitles, and because J was asleep while I watched it. Then, at the end, I turned the sound back on, and realized I had been missing nifty music. Ah well. The movie itself was alright, though not nearly as gory as I anticipated. In fact, some of the gore just made me laugh, cuz it reminded me of "Kill Bill"... :)
"Batman Begins" - ohmyfrickingod... I LOVED it! While I wish it had been Tim Burton and Danny Elfman, it was still awesome. It was more on the gritty side as opposed to the surreal (Tim Burton) side, but that fit with the story really well. And Christian Bale. I will refrain from drooling, but ohmygod... he's wonderful as Batman and as Bruce Wayne! :)
And I think that's all I saw this weekend. Then again, this weekend involved a lot of game and a lot of sleeping. So yeah... not much time for movies... :) .

Back at work all week, so we have End of the Work Week Wisdom...
"Man is least himself when he talks in his own person... Give him a mask and he'll tell you the truth." --Brian Slade, from Velvet Goldmine
::..::
In other news, Emperor Tim... he's a celebrity (scroll down), now, you see, so you should definitely check him out. What's not to like about a vulgar, angsty, penguin with a death wish? :)
Now, it's time for merchandising... ;)
::..::
In other other news, I SOOOOOOOO want to see "Batman Begins." Hopefully that will happen on Sunday, but I dunno yet. Plans for that day are still in the air, because we don't have to do anything on Sunday. :) .

Worked on a little crochet last night, trying to finish Master Shake, making a shrug, and made a granny square just to break up the monotony of the other two projects. It seems I'm a little bored with crocheting at the moment, which isn't entirely odd, as I've had plenty of other stuff to do... and I've broken out my old skool Civ computer game, which is a fabulous time waster.
What I want to do is write, and learn how to read my tarot cards, and other things of that sort. But no, I'm lazy. Well, okay, in actuality, I'm not lazy. I'm always doing something, and usually doing more than one something. But whether or not those things are really productive is another matter entirely... so it's a matter of finding hobbies that I like, that seem productive to me, and yet don't use up all of my time. *sigh*... it's a pain...
In the meantime, though, there are some pictures I need to look up, related to a crochet project that Mel has just completed... unfortunately, it's something that Dawn can't actually do, due to space and time constraints... but that's okay, I know where I can find pictures... :) .

I don't have much to say on the music front, at the moment, other than to comment, yet again, that I really can't tell the difference between most of the bands that are on the radio at the moment. This fact was brought into stark relief while we were driving to, from, and around St. Louis, when I heard an Incubus song that I like, and said "huh, I guess I don't hate everything by them"... :)
In other news, something in my office smells like burning. I'm not sure if this is actually something smelling like burning, or if it has to do with the fact that I just got back from lunch, where I had slightly singed my leftovers... so if anyone else comes and asks me if I smell burning, then I'll know the answer. Until then, I'll be left to ponder which it is.
In other other news, I've had this strange desire to go shopping since I woke up this morning. This may be due to the fact that I don't have plans for this evening, and thus could go shopping if I wanted to. This may also be due to the fact that I dreamed about shopping, sorta (it was a very weird dream). But at the moment, I've banned myself from buying any more clothes, as I have almost too much to fit into my single closet, and I've banned myself from buying any more yarn, cuz I have plenty of that. I have not banned myself from buying more DVDs or CDs, though, so maybe that's what I'll end up doing.
In reality, though, I should clean the apartment, and work on Garou stuff. And maybe crochet some, to use up that pile of yarn. :) .

Not a whole lot of regular gaming this weekend, but some, nonetheless.
We played the new Civ boardgame on Friday night, at least for about 5 hours. We only got through one epoch (out of four), though, so we'll have to finish that another time. I still think I like the old boardgame version better, but this new one is growing on me. :)
Saturday night was the Werewolf game, and it went very well. Got 10 of the cubs through their Rite of Passage, so that pretty much wraps up me having to deal with the cubs. :) This means I can do regular ST stuff from here on out. w00t! :) Hopefully Nathan will get his pictures developed soon, and I'll point everyone in their direction when they're posted somewhere... :) I can't remember if I took any on my digicam, but I don't think I did...
OWBN and Sabbat this coming weekend... whee! :)
Oh, and someone searched for "Conan the Barbarian LARP" and found my site... why does this sound like a horribly wrong idea that is so wrong that we should try it? :) .

Back to work, and back to the regular swing of things. So movies it is. :)
"Anchorman" - Back around Christmas, J wanted to rent this, and I was like "noooooo"... :) But then he saw it, and got a copy of it, so I watched it. It was surprisingly good. And afterwards (between that and a conversation with Jim), I realized I don't necessarily hate Will Farrell, I just can't stand the Spartans cheerleaders skits on SNL. :)
"Total Recall" - Of course I've seen this before, but I found it in the $5.50 DVD bin at Wal-Mart, and had to pick it up for J, cuz he only had it on VHS, and his VCR doesn't work. :) Have I mentioned that the two of us are HUGE fans of 80s movies? We sit and marvel at the lack of CGI, the primitive blue screen, and all the rest. And we love it. :)
Oh, and the movies I partially watched in St. Louis. "George of the Jungle" and "Bicentennial Man"... didn't see the entirety of either of them, but what I did see what pretty good... :)
I think I mentioned that I'm off work all this week, but if not, that's why I'm not posting this week. :) I've spent yesterday and today rearranging my apartment, and will spend the next three days in St. Louis. w00t for vacation! :)
So now, we will cover all of the usual posts in one fell swoop! :)
::..::
Movies:
Finally saw "Team America: World Police." Was somewhat amused by the music. Was greatly disturbed by the majority of it. Laughed, nonetheless.
Got to watch "Princess Mononoke" for the first time in about three years. Still a good movie.
Six or seven movies coming out in the next two months that I want to see: the new Jet Li one (the name of which constantly eludes me), Batman Begins, Fantastic Four, Willy Wonka, The Island, Land of the Dead, and maybe War of the Worlds.
::..::
Game:
Played OWBN on Friday. Much death ensued. Was fun.
Played Sabbat on Saturday. Much stupidity ensued. Was somewhat fun, nonetheless.
Played Paducah OWBN on Sunday. Much talk of stupidity in another game ensued. Was fun. Am now part of the Maidens of Death. And there is no purge. Those are mostly jokes, except that they're sorta true, too. :)
::..::
Music:
J got the new System of a Down CD, and I like it. He also got Queens of the Stone Age, and I liked what I heard of that. Thor loaned me new Bella Morte, and that makes me super happy. :)
::..::
Crafts:
Taking a break, mostly, due to vacation and the fact that pretty much all of my craft stuff is now crammed in one closet, and is not easily accessible. This is okay, it gives me more time to do other things. And I can still get to my crochet. :)
::..::
And no End of the Work Week Wisdom, cuz I'm not working! :) .

And this week, we have a fabulous End of the Work Week Wisdom...
"But sometimes your baby does drugs!" --Seth J., on OWBN
Maybe you had to be there, but it was PERFECT at the time it was stated. :)
In other news, it's a game heavy weekend, though everything is outside... *sigh*... gotta love intersession...
In other other news, I don't know what's wrong with my comments. Not that I've really looked into it, but it's annoying for me as well. Not that I'm going to do much about it... :) .

Finished up my new afghan last night, and it's awesome. Nice and warm, very pretty, and I think it's big enough for my bed. Of course, I haven't put it on the bed yet, cuz it's summer, and what do I need another afghan for in the summertime?!
Next up on the agenda? I'm working on a crocheted dress and shrug, which should be very cute, but I think the dress isn't going to be something I can wear outside. It might make a nice cover-up for my swimsuit, though... :)
I'm also going to be working on making crocheted Aqua Teen Hunger Force dolls, because some girls on the LJ crochet community made some, and they were even shown on Adult Swim. I've got a slightly better idea than the way they did Frylock, though, and he's probably the first on the agenda, as I already have the yarn for him. Master Shake and Meatwad require buying more yarn, the former because I don't ever have white yarn, and the latter because Meadwad is a strange little monkey... meat... thing...
Yeah.
::..::
In other news, I have discovered a new level of WRONG. Shakira doing "Back in Black." Wow. Starts out all lounge singer-y, and then it gets into the way the music should be, but still, it's very different. .

The world is complete. There is a band called Purple Penguin. They seem to be some techno-y, trip-hop band. Were it not for the fact that there are many other CDs that I know that I want, I might buy it, just to say that I have it. :)
::..::
In other news, I do need to go CD shopping at some point. I've decided that I don't like Plaza Records, though, as I went there a couple of weekends ago, and while I found CDs I wanted, I didn't like the prices on them... and they didn't have anything that I really NEEDED. No one around here sells Placebo, nor hardly any of the other bands I like, which sucks.
This reminds me, Thor bought Bella Morte CDs that he said he would loan me. I need to take him the new NIN and the Asleep by Dawn that I got at Hot Topic. I should take him the other Asleep by Dawns as well, since I have three of them... :)
I need to borrow the old Gorillaz CD from J, and see if he does have Postal Service, or if I was just imagining that. :) I need to burn him some techno CDs.
