Well, yet again, it's the end of the work week. And, so, here comes the End of the Work Week Wisdom! :)

"Fashion is a form of ugliness so intolerable that we have to alter it every six months."
--Oscar Wilde

Granted, I'm one of the people who cares the least about "fashion," but this is quite true... :)

In other news, this week has involved a whole lot of me carrying heavy things from place to place, but aside from that, it's been a very nice week. If I get an E-mail back from another library employee today, I'll be moving more stuff here shortly. Whee! At least I planned ahead, and mostly dressed for it today. Wearing the cotton candy flip-flops probably wasn't the best idea, but meh... :)

Months that have 5 weekends are weird.

Gah! Too many ideas! Not enough time! Gah!

Cindy and I went through the list of craft fairs and yard sales and such last night, and picked out which ones we're doing. Now I need to start calling around, getting us on the lists for them, and all that good nonsense. Whee! :)

Luckily, this year we're going to do a few in the fall, so that maybe I can sell some of my high school colors hats, while it's still football season... they should go over well. I should probably work on a few more of those, at some point... maybe... or something... :)

In the meantime, though, I have a few small projects going, and one of them is turning out quite nicely. I'm very pleased. :) It'll get done one of these years. :)

Wearing my batwing shawl at the moment, and loving Homespun... it's so soft and cuddly... :)

Not much music to report on. I'm now to the point in my downloading career where if I hear a song, I'll go out and look for it, usually with some success. I'm still making lists of stuff that I hear at work that I need to get on my computer, and I've started going through certain bands' entire catalogs, and trying to get complete albums. I had good luck on this with Placebo; Circle of Dust / Celldweller is my next target... :)

I've also discovered more and more songs that I just really shouldn't like, but do anyways... mostly, it's songs with some odd association to me, like it used to get played at the parties at Ben's trailer, back in the day, or something along those lines. Mostly, it's dance-type songs, the type of stuff that would be popular in clubs. I really SHOULDN'T like this crap. Really, I shouldn't. But for some reason, I do. I can't explain it.

Any rate, I'm rapidly approaching 5,300 songs in iTunes, which makes for some very interesting listening. Generally speaking, when people come over, and we're playing Pimp, I'll put it on the 80s or classic rock playlist. Cuz those are generally acceptable to all involved. For the OWBN court meeting tonight, I think I'll go with the goth playlist... even though I'd love a repeat performance of the night when everyone went "huh?!"

We're all sitting around having our meeting, and listening to music in the background. Marilyn Manson is on, I think it was "The New Shit." Song ends, and on comes Elvis Presley, "Suspicious Minds." Everyone in the room kinda pauses for a moment, and then looks at me, like I'm insane. My response: "What?! So my musical tastes are a bit eclectic!" Of course, this was vaguely IC, too, so now some people think Mel is a big time weirdo. But that's accurate, so it's okay. :)

::..::

In other news, I'm tired. Staying up way past your bedtime will do that to you every time. Early bedtime tonight, hopefully. No Denny's after the court meeting, that's for damn sure... :)

Not much on the gaming front this weekend... just ran Garou, and that was it. Well, we ran some scenes for Sabbat game at the after-party, but it wasn't official game... :)

The Garou game was our big moot, which was craziness. We had planned for there to be a minor interruption in the moot, but I thought that we would go on with the moot and take care of the interruption later. No such luck. The moot was delayed.

So then we decided that since there was going to be another interruption, we'd do it right when the moot was starting up for the second time... just to piss off the Master of the Howl, who I was playing... so that was fun... :)

Of course, though, when we finally started the moot for the third time, my phone rang. Wasn't important, but it was still one of those things... me talking IC, and then "goddammit, why the fuck is my phone ringing RIGHT NOW?!"... but it was amusing, I suppose... :)

Anyways, yeah... big plans for the next game, but we have 3 weeks to work on that. For now, we've got Sabbat game for the next 2 Saturdays, and that makes me happy... :)

And Dark Ages coming up on August 27th... w00t! :)

Two movies in the theatre this weekend, and pretty much nothing at home...

"The Devil's Rejects" - Pretty much everyone I knew was really disappointed with "House of 1000 Corpses," because it more or less sucked. After seeing this one, though, Rob Zombie has redeemed himself. It isn't really a standard horror movie, though there are some horrific parts. I'm mildly disturbed by the fact that I only had to curl up into J's arm about three times, and one of those was because I was pretty sure it was going to be an eye shot... otherwise, I was okay with all of the random violence and bloodshed and other heinous things. I think I'm jaded... :)

"March of the Penguins" - Yes, we went to the theatre to watch a documentary on penguins. If you know J, you understand why. Overall, it was really neat to watch. The softcore penguin porn was a bit odd, but hey, it was a story about love, right? :) Anyways, baby penguins are the cutest things ever, and I want one. :)

Yes, the SWG actually wants a bird, for a pet. Get over it. I'm weird sometimes. Besides which, baby penguins have short beaks, and because they are babies, they are cute and harmless. But the dead ones scare me, even on the movie screen. See above, re: weird sometimes. :)

In other news, I just looked at the weather forecast for the week, and it appears that the temperatures will be reduced from "hell-like" to "pretty warm" after tomorrow... and there's rain in the forecast for tomorrow... *happy dance*... I seriously almost melted yesterday. I'm not kidding. I turned all shiny and everything, like chocolate does before it melts... :)

Because I promised this one... :)

Your End of the Work Week Wisdom is brought to you this week by a party, about a year ago... brought to you by the consumption (all told) of somewhere around 2 GALLONS of Jaegermeister...

"Just let me lay here in the cool, cool grass."
--J

No more Jaegerbombs, Jaegerbombs are the devil. So sez me.

Gonna cover a large number of happy birthdays, which will cover all of the birthdays I know of in the next week... happy b-day to Johanna, Mawk, Thor, Alex, and Liz... goddamn there are a lot of late July b-days! :)

Well, I have a new baby afghan to get started on, and I just had a neat idea, but I'm not sure it has any practical application... gotta love ideas like that... :)

J's 40 oz. cozie is almost done, but it looks odd without a face and wings and feet, so I have to work on those things. Probably will finish that up tonight.

I need to talk to Cindy about which craft fairs we want to do this fall, and start making some calls about that. The problem is that a few of them overlap, so we'll have to choose which one we want to do...

At any rate, I really need to work on some crochet, so as to get some of my yarn used up and out of the way, so that I have a chance to get into my closet and do other crafty stuff... :)

Not much new music lately. The biggest news on the music front is that I decided that I'm not going to go see NIN in October, in St. Louis. I priced tickets, and for J and I just to go to the concert, with really crappy seats, would have cost $90. That's not counting gas money to get there and back, dinner while we're up there, and a T-shirt. So instead, I'm saving that money, and we'll use it for something different... possibly to rebuy the DVDs of "And All That Ever Was" and "Closure," when the latter comes out on DVD. That's plenty of live performances, which I can watch over and over again, and from the comfort of my living room...

It's absolutely ricockulous how much concert tickets cost these days, if you're going to any large venue. The Pageant is kewl. Going to see Interpol there was under $50, for the both of us. Still a decent chunk of change, but not unreasonable, especially for how much we wanted to see them, and how good the show was. But anymore, you have to REALLY want to see a band for it to be worthwhile to drop the money to actually get to see them.

I suppose that is the advantage of liking obscure bands... if they ever come anywhere near here, I can see them for relatively cheap. Of course, the problem being that they rarely play anywhere near here... Chicago is about the closest, and that's a LONG drive just for a show...

So in the meantime, I'll just rock out to the fact that my LaunchCast stations are all trained to play songs off of the Velvet Goldmine soundtrack, and that's a happy thing... :)

Back to a game heavy weekend, as they alternate like that... :)

Friday night was OWBN, and a good bunch of us cut out of it for about 3 hours in the middle. Most of us couldn't get into game until a potential scene was resolved, so we just went back to Thor and Cindy's to wait it out. On returning, the Prince pulls my character aside, and says that he has to make an announcement shortly, and asks whether or not I'm ready. Of course I'm ready... :)

So yeah, as of Friday night, I'm now the Prince in that game. I knew it was coming sometime this year, and now it's finally here. :) So far, so good, and she's already outlasted Raisa as far as length of her reign. Planning on keeping it up as long as I can, too... :)

Saturday night was Sabbat, which was a lot of good stuff. My character in that game had been led astray by some naughty Setites, and finally got busted out for it. So we ended up going to kill the Setites, and now my character is all better... :) Added a bunch of people to my pack, too, and then handed over the ductus-ship to one of the new people... :) Ember just wants to be a priest... she's so much better at that... :)

Got Garou game this weekend, and it's our first serious moot... I think I'm all ready for it, and I'm hoping the players that I've given positions will be ready as well. We're also doing a potluck dinner, and J and I have steak to grill, which I bought us in St. Louis last weekend. He's gonna marinate it in some sort of spicyness, and that will rock. :)

::..::

In other news, remembering that I neglected to mention the results of my trip to St. Louis, I will be Aunt Dawn x2 in March. My sister Sarah, the one that few of my friends have met, just found out she's pregnant... so it'll be a bit before I find out if I'm getting a niece or a nephew this time around... :) I vote niece, but then, I tend to vote niece... :)

Well, let's see here... what did we watch this week?

"Party Monster" - This was one that Thor recommended, and I think all four of us who watched it enjoyed it, though it was quite bizarre. As I mentioned before, I was amused by Keoki being a part of it... especially cuz he was played by the guy who plays Fez on "That 70s Show"... :)

"Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" - I wasn't sure that I was going to see this, cuz the preview freaked me out. The movie is not nearly as freaky, and nowhere close to as freaky as the first one. :) I liked it lots, especially getting to look for the tiny little references to other Tim Burton movies... like the way Willie Wonka was holding the scissors in the ribbon cutting scene... they looked like his hand... how cute... :)

Also watched a bit of "Boondock Saints" the other day... actually, I walked in just in time to say "is the cat dead yet?" Not because I wanted the cat to die, but because one of my favorite lines in that movie comes in a scene shortly after the cat dies... :)

Jesi's bag is done, and it turned out quite nice. Needs a minor modification, as the strap has apparently already stretched down to her ankles, but I told her to pick me up some 2 inch wide ribbon, and I'll reinforce the strap. Minor modification, really... :)

Because I can't keep a sekrit to save my life, sometimes, I showed J the suprise I was making for him... the long-awaited penguin 40 oz. cozie, which seems that it will fit just fine. He got to see it mainly because he had a Mickey's at my apartment on Sunday night, so I wanted to see how well I had set up the fit... not too bad, and we think it'll work better on a 40 that isn't partly gone and in a sweaty bottle... :)

So yeah, there's that to finish (about 3 more inches, so it's time to do the face... :) ), and maybe those ATHF dolls, and who knows what else... haven't been doing much crochet lately, this week at least... but that's okay. :)

::..::

In other news, since I'm off work tomorrow, it's time for the End of the Work Week Wisdom.

"At least I got chicken."

Hmmm... let's see... new music I've picked up lately...

Tiger Army - and lots of it. Psychobilly stuff, which is loads of fun. For the uninitiated, psychobilly is a mix between rockabilly and horror punk. So it's generally rockabilly sounding stuff, but with horror lyrics... w00t... :)

Deadstar Assembly - I need to listen to the stuff I downloaded by them still, but they do a cover of Send Me an Angel, which I think is currently my favorite song to hear covered... I have Zeromancer, Paul Oakenfold, Deadstar Assembly, and maybe one other... though I don't think I have the original, still... :)

Jesi tells me that I will ultimately run out of things to download, but I doubt it. I always remember more stuff that I want. I've listened to a lot of music in my time, and even though a lot of it is just songs here and there that I barely remember, they come back to me in random flashes of insight, and I write them down to try to find later... :)

::..::

In other news, if you haven't seen "Party Monster," you probably should. I'm not saying everyone in the world should watch it, but if you are in any way similar to me, you'd probably like it. :)

Best part of the movie for me? Hearing a character introduced as "Keoki," and going "nah, that can't be D.J. Keoki"... and then within five minutes, they're calling him "Superstar D.J. Keoki"... so it is who I thought it was... and now I've discovered a bit about his origins, and it's totally weird... :)

Thin gaming weekend, but good nonetheless. Only had the Garou game to run, during which J totally schooled me on chops. Seriously. I couldn't win chops against him to save my life, AND I had the bomb on most of them. :(

But the game was fun, despite my crappy chop throwing. Apparently a few hiccups here and there, but we're working on stuff. Sucks going into a chronicle not knowing just how unprepared you were... but then again, I'm used to being head ST, and having to do all of that work myself...

Anyways, the weekends go back and forth, with the crazy game weekends being 1st and 3rd, and the tame game weekends being 2nd and 4th. So this weekend, yet again, will be a crazy game weekend... which doesn't even begin to explain the sheer insanity that the entire weekend will encompass. Cuz I have to drive to St. Louis and back on Saturday. Joy.

Glad we're finally getting rain, but it can end whenever it likes. I think we've gotten quite enough already, thankyouverymuch. That, and I want it to be over by Thursday, because there are outdoor activities planned for Thursday and Friday...

Movies! :)

"Fantastic Four" - Went and saw this on Friday night, and I loved it! :) Now granted, I'm not a comic book person. The only comics I've ever really read have been Sandman and Preacher... both of which I read in graphic novel format, long after their initial publication. :) But I really liked the movie, for all of my lack of knowledge about the Fantastic Four. Made me want to play Marvel again, even if that system does suck. :)

"Stories of Lost Souls" - After the movie on Friday, Seth and I ultimately went to Wal-Mart, where we shopped a bunch. :) On perusing the $5.50 movie bin, I found this... gem... thing... whatever. It looked good in principle - six little short bits, each of which featured an actor or actress that I like a lot. So what could be bad about that? One, with a title like that, I wanted horror. Instead, I got weird British... crap. Two, did I mention weird British crap? Yeah, that pretty much covers it. So slightly disappointing, but a lot of staring at the screen and going "huh?" I tried to explain it to people at game on Saturday as "it's kinda like Four Rooms, except it doesn't all take place in the same hotel, and it sucks, and basically it's nothing like Four Rooms." :)

"Troy" - Saw this in the theater last year, but J hadn't seen it, and I bought it on Friday as well. Glad I waited to buy it, as it was $20 when it came out, and I got it for $10. :) Despite really messing with the story of the Iliad, it's good stuff. And remember, kids, jumpy-stabby is the best combo move ever. Kills your enemies dead. :)

::..::

In other news, I had "Under Pressure" stuck in my head this morning, despite the fact that I don't remember it coming up on the playlist last night. It just played on my LaunchCast, though, so it's okay. Speaking of the playlist last night, it went for about 10 songs on the 80s playlist playing only one song that wasn't a cover. Whee! :)

Hmmm... I guess I don't have any End of the Work Week Wisdom this week. Sure, there's a lot of quotes from Pimp the other night, but, uh... they're not appropriate for public consumption... you sorta had to be there... :)

Glad it's Friday, though, and looking forward to the weekend. Only Garou game this weekend, and we're seeing "Fantastic Four" tonight. Sunday will probably involve going hiking... hopefully the weather will cooperate with that plan... :)

For now, though, just counting down the hours till I'm off work! Nice to have a short work week this week and next (I'm off next Friday to run errands and such).

Wow... craftiness abounds. Got Jesi's purse over halfway done, but it's still got a lot that I need to do to finish it. Found out that another of my friends will be having a baby, so that's another baby afghan. However, I do already have one of those done, so she may well get that one. Or I may make up a new one... we'll have to see.

I also have a couple of sekrit projects that I'm theoretically working on, but I've had little time to crochet lately. Actually, that's a lie. I crocheted Friday night, Saturday morning, Sunday morning, Sunday night, and Monday morning, mostly at game and because I couldn't sleep late at all this weekend. But that was all on Jesi's purse, and is why I'm already getting close to done with it. :)

Need to look into some craft fairs, to see about selling off some of the crap I still have in boxes in the closet. I'm thinking I probably don't need to make any more hats before I get started on them, but I dunno... and I do have a ton of yarn that I could use up by making new hats... :)

Never mind making stuff for myself, of course... I almost never do anyway... :)

Not much new music to report on at the moment. I should be getting 7 Black Tape for a Blue Girl CDs, along with a couple of other CDs, in the mail any day now. 9 CDs for $20. Nice. :)

Still going crazy with Limewire, when I have a spare minute or two to see what I can find. Right now (well, not this minute right now, because I'm at work, but the next time I'm on Limewire), I think I'm gonna try to get everything I can find by Zeromancer, Placebo, and Lacuna Coil, because they're all kewl. :)

I have 14+ days worth of music in iTunes. This rocks. :)

Long weekend + three games - not a lot of free time = No movies post, just games. :)

Friday was OWBN, and it was actually not too bad this week. Relatively small game, which helped a good deal, I think. :) Got my first real taste of actually running the show with Mel, as the Prince wasn't around, and it was good stuff. Minor hiccups here and there, and one big potential disaster, but hey, we can run with it, right? :)

Saturday was Sabbat, and I'm a ductus again. I've already promised people I won't declare myself bishop this time. :) I really didn't want to be ductus, but as it was probably going to be either do that, or see my pack disbanded, I did what had to be done. I did notice that between a little incident on Friday night ("bring it") and actually declaring myself ductus to someone who seemed disconcerted by this fact, my characters are getting a whole lot more brave and uppity. Could be the fact that even though I like them, I'm not too afraid of losing them. :)

Sunday was Paducah OWBN, which was, as always, a good time. The ride down and back was a little cramped, with five people in my car, but we made it work. :) As for the game itself, I got to be there for the job interview from hell, and was a part of the Maidens of Death yelling for our fearless leader... ;)

::..::

In other news, Ventura, I'm not sure if you read this or not, but I saw (right as it was disappearing from my in-box) that I had an E-mail from you on my anneke account. If it was important, resend it to forgotten (at) scarywhitegirl (dot) net.

I'm sure there was something better stated last night, but this is the one I remember... so End of the Work Week Wisdom, brought to you today by Pimp: the Backhanding... :)

"Put the dead hos on the napkins. The dead hookers go in the closet, but the dead hos go on the napkins."
--Me

Of course, the "dead hooker closet" is a long-standing tradition in my apartment, though I don't really think you could fit a dead hooker in it. :)

I suppose there is something kinda bizarre about the fact that my favorite game at present involves me being a pimp, and macking on hos, but Eimi is hot, no matter how you look at it. Now we just have to wait for an expansion pack, because we need more cards... :) We actually ran out of the Draw deck in the last game we played last night...
