So it'll only be a music review of sorts, because it's music related, but not exactly music.

Got my Cruxshadows DVD last Thursday, and immediately broke it out to watch. I then inflicted it on Doc, Jesi, and J the next night. :)

So it's concert footage and videos, and there's other stuff too, but I haven't gotten to that part yet. The concert footage is from Germany, and it's amazing just how sedate and calm German fans are. No mosh pit, just a little head bobbing, and occasionally dancing and putting their arms in the air. I don't even think I saw anybody throw up the horns, and that's just unheard of! We throw up the horns at Brat Pack!

Rogue is a strange strange man, too. He really shouldn't open his mouth, because it elongates his already long and strange face, and makes him look really weird. He also seems to enjoy climbing on the stage pieces, and doing things that one shouldn't really do in Germany (I don't care how many fingers he was holding up, raising your right arm at that angle and saying "Hallo Deutschland" just seems like a poor choice...).

At any rate, it was a fun DVD to watch, and I am sure I will obtain hours of amusement from it. And I still have special features to watch.

I also found the easter egg on the DVD... poke around with the arrows on the main menu, and you'll find it. It's a Dreamside video that Rogue is in... pretty sweet! :)

The DVD also came with a CD, with what I believed to be 3 new songs. "Foreverlast" and "... only sleep" were both actually new. "Helen," however, is not. It's "Nothing Left But Me" with a different title. *sigh*... yet again, we get back to that "why do bands keep putting out remix CDs with like 1 new song. Ooh, I got two this time... but still...

In other music news, Kent is a smart man. He told me that Sigur Ros sounded like Radiohead, except you couldn't understand the lyrics. When Sigur Ros came up on my playlist the other day, I wondered what Radiohead song this was, and how it got on my computer, seeing as I've only got Radiohead songs that I know. Then I realized the guy was singing in Icelandic, and it all made sense. Go Kent! :)

Thin gaming weekend, as some of them tend to be, and as more will be in the future, or so it appears... but there was the addition of a mid-week game, so that changes things up a bit.

Last Wednesday was the first time I actually sat down to play Requiem. Seeing as I had only sat down with the books the previous night, that was fun. :) But yeah, I'm still forming a full opinion on the game in its entirety.

I like the combat system, as it's a whole lot faster. This is really nice when you don't like playing combat effective characters, because the other people get done with their silly combat much quicker. :)

I'm not too sure about the setting. Part of the difficulty is that I'm just not that familiar with it, and so there's a lot of times where I'm sitting there going "right, what now?" It's tricky, and I should probably read the books, but as I'm opposed to buying them on principle, and I just dropped $70 on other gaming books, I probably won't get a chance to read them for a while... :)

The other game (the one on the weekend) was Doc's Dark Ages one shot, which was pretty kewl. Granted, I spent most of the night sitting on a couch and looking creepy. Then there was the long scene where J's character was defending himself, and I couldn't breathe. Corsets are a bitch like that. I probably would have been okay if I were standing, but that wouldn't have worked in that scene. As it was, as soon as that scene was over, I took off the damn corset. By the end of the night, my costume was down to just a shirt and skirt, as opposed to the shirt, skirt, corset, cloak, veil, and mask I had started out with. I ditched the skirt on the way to the after-party... cuz I had shorts in my bag... :)

In other gaming news, I have acquired a copy of Deleria, which is a neat little Changeling-esque game. I still need to read it, but I'm planning to run it for E-Con this spring. I also reacquired the Changeling tabletop book, and a few other assorted White Wolf books, including some of the old school Tradition books. This makes me a happy camper. :)

Yet again, a fairly thin movie weekend. Mostly watched bits and pieces of things sort of in passing, if anything.

There were a couple of exceptions, of course. Doc and I watched "Troy" on Sunday, as I had gotten it back from J, and we were trying to get the surround sound speakers hooked up. Well, they're hooked to the stereo, but I don't know if they're functioning or not. It doesn't sound like it, but it's hard to say. I wish I had the manual for the dumb stereo, but I don't think I do. Ah well. One of these days, I will have enough of the ghetto stereo and buy a new one, and then I will have the manual for the surround sound speakers. :)

The other exception was an odd one. I hate Adam Sandler. J and N do not. So Friday night and Saturday afternoon (cuz we had to finish it), we watched "Billy Madison." I still don't like Adam Sandler. The movie wasn't all bad, but he just doesn't amuse me very much. Still, I was strangely disappointed that I missed the end of the movie (I was getting ready for game)... so that makes 3 of his movies that I've seen now... and I still HATE "Happy Gilmore"...

::..::

In other news, we got the official word not too long ago that the office is moving on the 6th. They're going to start moving filing cabinets on Thursday, but no people until the 6th. So that's kewl. Boss will be pleased, when he returns from his latest trip. And me, I get a little more time to pack, so that's kewl. :)

Back with End of the Work Week Wisdom...

"You should be kissed and often, and by someone who knows how."
--Rhett Butler, in Gone with the Wind

I've had that quote stuck in my head like all week, even though I thought it was from "Bull Durham." Apparently not. Still, I like it.

This has been one of the longest weeks ever, and I'm glad that it's finally coming to an end. I'm exhausted, and will be much better in about 9 hours. That's still a damn long time, but I'll live.

Quite a bit of craftiness, yet again.

At the end of last week, I finished the curtains for J's room, and made him a pillowcase. When you find Madagascar fabric, sometimes you just have to do such a thing. :) At least I didn't put it on the curtains, though I did think it would make a lovely ruffle. I know better, though. :)

This week, I've finished two more sets of pressies, one being a birthday pressie, and one being a "just cuz" sort of pressie. And I've finished the coasters for J & N's living room. 8 all told there: 2 are the Superman logo with each of their initials instead of an S, and then Batman, Captain America, Green Lantern, Spider-Man, and the Punisher. Crap... there's another one, but now I can't remember which one that was! I vaguely think I finished something else, but if I did, I have no clue what it was... :)

I've also been working on masks for the next Elysium in the OWBN game, which is next month. We're doing a masquerade ball theme, and I'm making some extra masks for anyone who doesn't have one. One of them is SUPER disturbing, as I spent most of the weekend cutting out eyes from fashion magazines, and gluing them to a plain white mask. I managed to cover pretty much ALL of the white, except for right around the eyes and where the elastic is attached. I finished off the eyes with black paint, so they look good. What's most disturbing about this mask, of course, is the moving eyes that are added to it when you put it on. I don't know who will end up with this mask, but I think it should be a Malk. :)

Of course, I haven't even started on mine, but most likely, mine will be pretty simple and traditional. :)

Sometimes the ways in which I find new music are odd...

For example, the latest band I've become obsessed with finding stuff by is Within Temptation. Now it's not surprising I like them. They're similar, in a lot of ways, to Lacuna Coil or Evanescence, though generally a little softer than either of those examples. Female lead singer, really nice musical arrangements, good stuff all around (and no yelling guy, like in Lacuna Coil).

But the way I discovered them was that I occasionally do a search on LimeWire for "Darkwave." Usually, I end up with a lot of hits for H.I.M. and Cradle of Filth and Guns and Roses doing "Cats in the Cradle" (no, I don't know why. It's messed up.). But one night, there was a lot of hits for Within Temptation, "Ice Queen." Meh, why not. Jubilee used to be the Ice Queen, when she was a TT character, and it sounded interesting. And, as it turned out, it was super good! :)

As such, I've now developed an obsession with covers of "Running Up That Hill," because Within Temptation and Placebo both do them. I think I have one other one also, though I can't remember by whom. Yes, my cover obsession continues, but I still won't download any by AFI. I haven't heard any of their covers other than the one of "99 Red Balloons," but I'm protesting, due to their cover of "Head Like a Hole," which I am told sucks muchly.

I don't care if muchly isn't a word, either. deL uses it, and so do I. :p

Well, let's see. OWBN was cancelled Friday, and with classes starting yesterday, we weren't about to go to Paducah, so the only game this weekend was Sabbat.

My pack is finally shaking down into something that I think I can work with. I have another Tzimisce now, though he doesn't have Vicissitude yet. I also picked up someone else that can fight in a Shroud. So in theory, our pack has combat covered with 3 of the members, and the rest of us can focus on being good with people. We renamed the pack "Midnight Apocalypse," which was far better than the Anti-Trenchcoat Mafia. :)

I've determined that the costuming for the Dark Ages game is gonna be pretty laid back. Jesi has a black PVC corset with buckles, Kent is wearing a suit, and J will be in a modified bathrobe (if I get around to making the modifications). So I'm going to go through my closet tonight and decide what I feel like wearing. I'm suspecting I'm gonna go with either my purple and black cross skirt, or something velvet. I like velvet... :) Probably gonna wear my new corset, which may or may not need a shirt to go under it. Probably yeah. That much shoulder on a Cappadocian? Yikes! :)

Only watched a couple of movies this weekend, which, oddly enough, were related. This is a direct result of J buying movies for himself for his b-day. :)

"Requiem for a Dream" - I had been told this was a super depressing movie, and it was, by and large. But I definitely liked it, despite the depressing-ness, and weirdness, and other things that I don't think I quite understood. I just don't know much about drug addiction... :)

"Pi" - This one, on the other hand, just messed with my head. I think I didn't quite get it, and it was way too action-y for a black and white movie. Action movies NEED to be in color. I don't know why, they just do. :)

Interestingly enough, the actor who played the main character in Pi was a lesser character in Requiem for a Dream, as was the actor who played the secondary character in Pi. Apparently this director likes them. :) No wonder they looked familiar, too... :)

Oh, and a couple more things, in case anyone was interested.

Happy birthday to Aidan, born on Wednesday morning.

Happy birthday to Liam, born on Thursday morning.

And, BTW, on the above, I literally mean BIRTH day. Both of them were born this week, to two of my friends from E-ville (one of whom now lives in Arizona).

Happy birthday to my dad, today.

And happy birthday to Michael, on Sunday.

And I thought that one week in April used to be bad for birthdays... whew!

I've been putting off posting today, because I don't have anything good for the End of the Work Week Wisdom. I still don't. So this will have to be a weekend without any wisdom to get you through. I suspect you'll survive. :)

Looks like only the Sabbat game this weekend, as OWBN was cancelled. That's okay by me, I suppose. On the one hand, I could have used the XP. On the other hand, I will gladly take the free Friday night, even if it will only result in sitting around and watching movies. Sometimes sitting around and watching movies can be a very good thing. :)

We have our "as official as it gets" official moving date for when we go from the library to our new offices. September 1st. This gives me 8 more working days to finish packing up the office. I think I'm ready for it. Most of the packing can't be done until the last three days anyway, so I'm as ready as I can be. :)

Right. Monkeys.

I've been quite crafty lately, finishing a bunch of projects in the past week.

Saturday, I discovered a fabric sale at JoAnn's, and stood in line for many many many minutes, waiting to get my fabric cut. As it turned out, they didn't have as much fabric as I wanted, so this necessitated recalculating all of the curtain sizes for J and N's living room. As it all turned out, I got all four of the curtains done with time to spare, they all fit the windows appropriately, and they all look GOOD! :) The next project for the boyz is curtains for J's bedroom, which requires me to either buy or find a little bit more fabric, just to make my life easier. Lined curtains are much easier to do than curtains with hems. :)

Let's see... aside from that, I finished two projects which are pressies for people, so I'm not specifying what those things were. I also finished a crocheted shrug that I had started working on a while back, gotten annoyed with, and more or less left to sit in my closet. I finally decided to finish it, though, and it pretty much fits. This is the first really fitted thing I've made for myself (or anyone), so I'm pleased that it worked. It's not perfect, but its decent. Good enough for me.

So now I've still got an afghan to make for my future niece or nephew, and I think I may end up making a stack of booties for the assorted babies which have been born recently. Actually, I don't know if either of my honorary nephews have been born yet, but I know Assie was induced Tuesday night, and Erin went into labor yesterday, so I would suspect both were born yesterday or will be born today. Figures that the two little baby boys, even as far away as they could be, would conspire to have the same b-day... :) Well, at least that should make it easy to remember... :)

Oh, and costumes for the Dark Ages LARP... here's hoping I can find something serviceable at GoodWill!

Look, I'm remembering to post on a Wednesday! Everyone be proud of me! :)

Mainly, though, that's cuz I actually have a new band to mention, thanks to RadioFreeAbattoir. :)

DeathBoy

It's hard to classify them... I'd go with a little goth, a little techno, and a little punk-ish. Not really so much the last one, but a little. :)

If nothing else, everyone should check out "80s are Dead," which they have available (along with nearly everything else they've ever put out) as a free MP3 download on their site. This song, in particular, is cute and amusing... :)

There's also a web comic. And they also have D&D stats for the members of the band. This amuses me greatly. :)

So yeah, good stuff. I've downloaded about half of it already, and intend to finish downloading their entire catalog before the week is out. :) I like bands who want you to download their stuff. I will also probably end up buying a T-shirt and their one commercial CD, at some point. Trying to figure out the dollars to pounds conversion, though, because I think the conversion rate is good at the moment...

In other musical news, I ordered the Cruxshadows DVD that came out last month, and am looking forward to receiving that. :)

For the first, and most important part of this post...

Happy birthday to a certain someone... you know who you are... ;)

And now, gaming. :)

This was a thin game weekend, with only the final Garou game. It went relatively well, but I do have to say that I'm glad we're done with it for a while. I still don't know if it's for a while, or permanent, but either way, any length of break will be nice. :)

In the meantime, I'm anxiously awaiting the one-shot Dark Ages LARP that runs on the 27th. I really need to figure out my costume for that, though it shouldn't be difficult... (Nathan: "Just wear all black and paint your face white." Me: "I have a mask, I'm not painting my face." Nathan: "That works too.") J's costume will be considerably more difficult, though I do think that I could make his costume for him, if need be. Will have to measure him so that I know how to size it properly, but yeah, shouldn't be all that hard. Gonna hit GoodWill this weekend (or maybe tomorrow), just to see if I can get away with not having to sew anything... but I doubt I'll get THAT lucky... :)

I love costuming, and I even love making Dark Ages costuming (I was in SCA for a while, after all), but on short notice, and for something pretty unusual, it's not all that easy... :(

We watched a whole ass-ton of movies this past week. No, I don't know how big an ass-ton really is, but I imagine it's something along the lines of five movies. :)

"House of Flying Daggers" - I had heard about this one approximately one day before it stopped showing in C-dale. Seriously. One day, I was like "ooh, let's go see that," and the next day I was like "ooh, it's gone." So yeah. Anyways, it wasn't all bad, but it was pretty cheesy and over the top in places. If you look at them on a spectrum, it goes: "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon," then "Hero," and then "House of Flying Daggers." Each one gets progressively more visually stunning, and at the same time, progressively more WTF! :)

"A Series of Unfortunate Events" - This is one I would have liked to see in the theatre, but there was a lot of other stuff going on at the time, or some reason that we never got to. At any rate, I'm glad that we did watch this one. It was very funny, to the point that I was laughing aloud at bits of it. :)

The rest were all movies that I've seen before, but I suppose bear brief mention. "Fight Club," "Constantine," and "The Wedding Singer." All good stuff. :)

We also got to watch a DVD of LARPers, that was made last fall. Definitely four dollars well spent. Thank you, Megan, for only making it cost $4. :)

In other news, it would appear that the janitorial staff has stopped coming up to empty our trash cans. This is a bad thing, seeing as we're still in this building for somewhere between 2 1/2 and 3 weeks. Hopefully we find out soon when we move, and also when the janitors will come and empty our trash cans. :)

"Because he's a wad of meat!"

You might have had to be there to understand why this is wise. Or you might have to hear me say it. Apparently it's cute. :)

So I'm gearing up for the weekend, which involves taking J to dinner for his b-day tonight, Garou game tomorrow, and J's birthday party tomorrow night. It's bound to be a weekend of much craziness. At least I'm ready for it... :)

Of course, if you ask J, he doesn't have a birthday. Or so he claims. :)

Oi... getting ready to move our offices from on campus to just at the edge of campus is draining my brain on a regular basis. The good news is that the bulk of the packing and planning is done. The bad news is that the packing which remains is the stuff that's going to be a pain. I also still need to mark objects so that the movers know what to put where. Whee! Labels are my friends. I still want flashy pretty colored ones, but I guess I can make do with what I have. :)

So yeah, I have my next two and a half weeks quite planned out. Granted, most of what I have on my planning calendar is probably stuff that can be done in much less time than I have designated. But it's better to have too much time than not enough time. Having too much time means that some days, I can slack. And slacking can be a good thing.

Crafting has dried up, to a large extent. Still working on the coasters for the boyz, and I need to make them curtains still (gee, I'm so domestic...). Working on a sekrit as well, though it isn't for the boyz, this time. :) And then I can get back into doing the usual crafting, I think. Ooh, but I might have a possibility of selling purses, like the ones I made for Jesi... but I think I'll wait and go talk to that girl when I actually will have time to make purses again... :)

::..::

In other news, since I missed my music post yesterday, here's a little bit of musical commentary.

Boom Boom Satellites - they do the music for "Appleseed," which is an anime that the boyz have been watching. J asked me to look for some of their stuff, and I have done so. I now have about 4 CDs worth, give or take a few songs here and there. I think "Anthem," which is from "Appleseed," is my favorite song thus far, but then again, I'm only listening to the first of the four CDs that I made... :)

Daughter Darling - my friend Benji mentioned them to me, almost in passing, and I then got everything they've put out. Only one CD worth, but that's okay. It's amazing. It's seriously everything I love about several different genres of music, all rolled into a single band. Gorgeous female vocals (think Sarah McLachlan / Fiona Apple), pianos and violins (like Rasputina! Squee!), trip-hop (like Portishead), and so on. They do a cover of "Dust in the Wind." Wow. I like that song, now. :)

Ummm... yeah. Still endeavoring to find all the Purple Penguin I can, because who wouldn't like a band named Purple Penguin? Okay, maybe not. But if you are J or myself, and they're a techno band, who wouldn't like them? :)

Super duper heavy gaming weekend, what with two OWBN games and Sabbat...

Friday night was the local OWBN game, and my first full night as Prince. I'm barely in game 10 minutes before I find out that the Harpy (my clanmate) is getting rolled. Nothing we can do about it, except track down the culprits, which was nicely accomplished. Question them, decide to kill 'em all, which turned into a bit of a clusterfuck, and caused me no end of grief. *sigh*... The only good thing that should come out of all of this is that whoever thought I was going to be far more merciful than Blake was so wrong. Mel's only got a couple of soft spots, and the chances of a Kindred actually hitting them are pretty damn slim...

Saturday night was Sabbat, and Ember's turn to be ruthless. She found out that one of the other packs, along with her own Ductus, had gone out and killed some people while feeding... which is allowed, as long as said people won't be missed. Problem being: these fools messed up, big time. So she got to rat out her ductus, getting him Wild Hunted, and then took back over as ductus of her pack. w00t for that! :) The pack needs a little bit of poking and maybe some trades, but I'm not sure if that will happen or not... but it'll work, even if we don't get it exactly how I want it.

Sunday night was Paducah game, and though the STs were tied up dealing with mostly stupid people for the majority of the night, I accomplished quite a bit. Mostly I just needed to roleplay with some folks, make some connections, and things like that. Had to tell several Toreador about Elizabeth's untimely demise, which sucked, but hey, it had to be done. But I got to have tea with several people, and Missy decided that I am a princess, because I had lawn chairs in my trunk, so I had a seat while everyone else stood around outside. Hey, I'm not totally a princess, I got the chairs myself, rather than having someone fetch them for me... :)

Saturday is the final Garou game for the summer, and it's going to be craziness... whee!

Weird... I have no clue why I didn't post on Friday... musta been something to do with boxing up the plethora of books around the office... such fun...

Movies. Yeah. Lemme think.

I think the only movies I watched this week were "Army of Darkness," "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon," and "The Incredibles." All of which I had seen before (two of which I own). I have three movies rented from Blockbuster right now, but due to this being an insane gaming weekend, we didn't watch any of them yet. Should be watching a couple tomorrow night, but one of them is gonna get left out, cuz there just isn't enough time to watch all three... ah well, no huge loss... we'll get around to whatever we miss this time at some point... :)

I'm exceptionally tired today, even with sleeping in an extra couple of hours. Paducah on Sunday always sounds like a good idea, until it's 3 a.m., and you're finally crawling into your bed, knowing that your alarm will go off in 3 hours and 45 minutes. And then you are a sad monkey.

I like monkeys. But not sad ones.

Wasn't at work yesterday, so that explains the lack of post then. Almost forgot to post today, so that explains the lateness of this one. :)

Current crafting project is a set of coasters for J and his new roommate. A couple of years back, I made a set of super hero coasters for Karac for Christmas: Captain American, Superman, Spider-Man, X-Men, Punisher, and Batman. I've got a couple of new ones on tap for the boyz, including Superman logos with their first initial, rather than the S. Silly, but cute. :) Looks like it's gonna end up as a set of 8, though why 2 boyz need 8 coasters, I'll never know... they just have a lot of super heroes that they like. :)

Might end up making some for me at home, too, but I need to find a source of getting the coaster bits in bulk. Cuz I will probably end up buying out Hobby Lobby, and who knows when they will get more in... probably not till Christmas time.

I have a feeling I'm not going to do a whole lot of crafts for Christmas this year. S'okay, I ran out of time this past year, and I've done a lot of crafts throughout the year this year... and people will get over it, I'm sure... :)

Funny, though, cuz Nathan was looking through my notebook of designs, and found the design for Cindy's Nightmare Before Christmas calendar, made the same year as the super hero coasters, and was like "oh yeah, you made that." Yes, of course I made it. I make everything. :)

Thin gaming weekend, yet again, but I'm not complaining... :)

We played Sabbat on Saturday, and it was a pretty good time. The game is back down to three packs, so there was a lot of restructuring, and a lot of the former members of my pack have now jumped ship. There's only 8 in our pack, and two of them weren't there at this past game. So it felt like 6, and that was small, comparatively speaking.

This weekend, we've got OWBN on Friday, and, due to the weirdness of months with five weekends, Sabbat again. I'm okay with that, though. :)

The following weekend will be the final Garou game... probably final until next summer, but maybe it'll just be a short break. We've hit an ST shortage when it comes to Garou, so we're waiting until we can find another one... if we can find another one... :)

Getting ready to play in a TT game, too, though it won't be starting for a few more weeks... that's okay, though, I've been busy enough with the few games I am in... :)

Watched a whole crapload of movies this past week. :)

"Dodgeball" - Okay, I had been avoiding this one since about Christmas. J would mention it (or Anchorman, or something similar), and I'd come up with something different to watch. :) But as it turns out, I shouldn't have avoided it. It was damn funny. :) Jesi is the devil for making us watch it all the way through the end credits, but we love her anyway. :)

"Sky High" - This movie rocked! When I first saw a preview for it, I thought it would be decent, but it far surpassed my initial expectations. And I must have the soundtrack. That many covers of that many 80s songs is simply the bomb. :)

"The 13th Warrior" - Hadn't seen this in ages, but got to watch part of it on Saturday morning, and almost all of it on Sunday afternoon. I need to pick up my own copy of it at some point, cuz I really do like it. Just close enough to Beowulf to make me not hate it... :)

"Batman" - Another movie that I hadn't seen in ages, which makes wonderful background noise when you're getting a million other things done. :)

"The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou" - Okay. First thing to keep in mind, by the same person who did The Royal Tennenbaums. Yeah, that explains most of it. This movie is utterly surreal and bizarre, and I liked it lots. :) Bill Murray is weird, but it's in a good way. And now, I need to find some of the stuff that was on the soundtrack, because I'm pretty sure one of the songs was a cover of an EMF song, and that's just bizarre... :)
