Random ramblings cuz I have nothing better to do... or something... :)
This is the site formerly known as Anneke's Haven. Within, you will find information about my previous White Wolf chronicles, and other random gaming related stuff. I also have a blog here, where I talk about pretty much everything and anything, though it's primarily about my exciting life... the definition of exciting definitely being up for debate.
Enjoy your visit, and come back soon!
Today, in honor of my coming trip, I will pimp Abney Park. :)
Ummm... so like go to their website, and buy their stuff, and listen to their music, and LOVE IT! Cuz it's really super duper good, and because they are very kewl to let a girl come from 1,400 miles away to be their merchandise girl, and hang out with them. :)
Seriously, though, they're super talented, and they're super nice. And to me, that makes a good combination for a band. They're real people, they just make groovy music. :)
Yes, I'm excited! :)
::..::
In other news, you probably won't see another update outta me in about a week. So everyone have a good Halloween, be safe, and wait with bated breath for my next post... ;) .

Well, I could do a game recap, but it would be long and fairly crazy, so I think I'll refrain. Suffice it to say that as of Friday night, Mel is firmly ensconced in a very bad situation, with no hopes of it looking much better. As of Saturday night, Viridian is getting herself into a much better situation, and it should continue to improve as time goes on. And as of Sunday night, I didn't get a chance to play, because of going to haunted houses in the cold. But that's another story entirely... :)
Instead, I will talk about Seattle, because I'm like super duper pumped. One more day of work this week, then a day off to get things together, drive to St. Louis, see my mom and uncle, and hang with Seth H. and Shawn. Friday, my uncle will take me to the airport, and Jeff will be there when I get there... I believe... :) Dunno what we're doing yet, cuz I shot down his first idea. Saturday, I'm going to the zoo and art museum in Tacoma, and then to the Abney Park show that night, where my shift at the merchandise table ends right when they go on stage... w00t! :) Sunday, I'm going up to Seattle to hit a number of places within a several block radius of one another. Hopefully walking distance, but these are city blocks, one would assume. Monday, I'm going to the zoo in Seattle, and maybe some other stuff that I haven't really figured out yet, and then to the party at Robert's house that night. Tuesday, I fly back to St. Louis, someone (to be determined) picks me up from the airport, and I crash at my mom's house. Wednesday, Soulard Market on my way back to C-dale, so that J and I can have tasty food, yet again. :)
So yeah, I'm missing a lot in C-dale and elsewhere while I'm gone, and I will especially miss J (a whole week without seeing him?! That's crazy talk!), but I think it's gonna be so worth it... anyways, it's not like I don't have a phone and such... :) .

Watched only one movie last week, due to being busy, planned events going longer than anticipated, and other such bidness. I anticipate things going this way for a few weeks, as I'm not even going to be here for almost a week... :)
But I did rewatch "The Craft," which I bought cheaply. I still like that movie, even if it is cheezy as hell... :)
I also bought "Batman Begins," and J bought "Johnny Mnemonic," so the two of those are somewhere on the movie watching docket, we just haven't decided when, or in which order. :)
I'd really like to have the time to sit around and watch a few horror-type movies before Halloween, but I just don't see that happening. Ah well, c'est la vie... :)
Sunlight on my monitor, and too much work to do in the three days I work this week... :( .

Mildly bored today, despite having accomplished a great deal this morning, so I am, in fact, going to post the End of the Work Week Wisdom:
"Next set..." --J and I, pretty much all last night, regarding our plans for Archspace
Cuz yeah, it's gonna be a whole lot kewler when we know what we're doing from the get-go... :) .

Breaking from the usual mold to respond to a request I have received.
Josef from (insert location here) has requested that I explain to his friend that just because The Rock is in a movie, that does not make the movie good.
I concur wholeheartedly. :)
Take, for example, The Scorpion King. Now I love the first two Mummy movies. In fact, I own both of them. But rather than buying a super spiffy box set of the three Mummy-themed movies, I bought the first and second movies separately. Why, you may ask?
Because The Rock as the star of a movie is a bad idea.
He was okay in the second Mummy movie, mainly because it was pretty much just CG that looked like The Rock. His acting talent was not required for the tiny little bit part that he had.
But he was popular, and thus Hollywood believed that they should give him starring roles. Bad idea.
The Rock was a decent wrestler. He was very good at working the mike. He has a very larger than life personality. However, this does not mean that he is a good actor. Because he's good at being larger than life. And that's about it. And that leads to type-casting, and nobody likes type-casting...
Okay, so this may be a pretty lame argument, but I say don't go see Doom, Josef from (insert location here)'s friend. Wait for video, at the very least.
Unless you're going to see Karl Urban. Who is pretty damn hot, in that totally scruffy, hippie, way. Which basically means not really. But he was pretty cute as Eomer. Damn, I can't decide... :) .

Yup, craft season is in full swing. Cindy and I have our first real craft fair of the fall this Saturday, and here's hoping we do well, cuz the table space was not cheap. :( Still, this one will be fun because we get more space than we're accustomed to, and we get to set up the space how we want it. Of course, this means I need to tear apart my living room closet tonight to get stuff ready to go for that, as I'll want to load my car Friday night, so as not to have to get up even more godawful early on Saturday morning.
After that, we don't have another until the beginning of December, and I honestly think I'm probably good for stock, unless I do amazingly well this weekend. Here's hoping, right? :)
Got both of my Halloween costumes done now, with the only exception being that I need to find some sort of shoes for my belly dancer costume. I'm thinking I'll go scout the clearance racks to see if I can find some of those little crochet-look flats that were popular this summer, or maybe Mary Janes in Asian inspired fabric. Either would work, and my feet are going to be cold regardless... :) Failing those options, though, I guess my "elf boots" will have to suffice. How I wish barefoot was an option... :( I suppose I could try to find black slippers like my white ones...
Sorry, I'm sure brainstorming of footwear is not something my faithful readers are interested in. :)
Right. So prep stage 1 for the craft fair tonight (getting everything out of the closet), prep stage 2 for the craft fair tomorrow (loading the car). That should do.
And then hoping I sell enough stuff on Saturday to make it feel productive, but not so much that I have to completely restock my hats in the span of a month... oi! .

Yay for new music to talk about! :)
J and I were coming back from Wal-Mart last night, and we both took notice of the song playing on the radio. Very classic rock inspired guitar riffs, generally very rockin', and NOT like everything else you hear on the radio these days. We turn it up, we debate who it might be, and we hope that the DJ will announce the name of the band, at the very least, when the song ends.
Avenged Sevenfold. Wow. I seriously thought they were an emo band, but then again, I had never heard anything by them before this. So I go home, and proceed to find every song they've ever released... rock on... :)
How cool is a band where the lead singer goes by M. Shadows? And there's a guy named Zacky Vengeance? Way cool. :)
Now, as it turns out, some of my friends had already heard of these people, and liked them. Apparently they say this newest album is nothing compared to the older ones. But I'm listening to it first, and then will proceed to listen to the rest as the day progresses. So far, though, I like it! :)
Always kewl to find something new to listen to... :) .

Let's see, game recap...
Saturday night was Sabbat, and once again, Ember is not in the best of positions. This time, she's working for the Giovanni. At least this time everyone knows about it. Unfortunately, this time, she has a bomb in her tummy. This is particularly bad for someone with no fear of death (Death & the Soul), who was training to be a doctor, and is really curious as to the limitations of what she can do without blowing up. Also unfortunately, this isn't one of those things that she can experiment with and know if she's getting close... she'll either blow up into ooey gooey bits, or not learn much... *sigh*... the dilemma...
Sunday night was Requiem / social night, the latter portion meaning that we didn't accomplish a whole lot. Actually, there were a couple of scenes I think I was technically involved in, but I couldn't hear what was going on particularly well, so I just didn't worry about it. It was a fun night, overall... Roi (J) broke out the rivethead persona, and Scary (me) just sorta sat there and went "huh?!" It was amusing. :)
Got OWBN workshop tomorrow night, though I didn't send in in-weeks. Then OWBN Friday, Cammie on Saturday, and we're skipping Requiem on Sunday, so that we can go to Talon Falls... whee haunted houses! :) .

Well, I finally got to go see "Corpse Bride," and it was good! :) It's not "Nightmare Before Christmas," but it was rather good in its own right, and I think I'll pick it up when it comes out on DVD. It just seems fitting to my collection. :)
I also watched "Pump Up the Volume," which I have seen many times before, and caught part of "Blade Runner," which I have seen portions of many times before. I don't think I've ever sat through the entirety of the latter, oddly enough. It's not that I don't like it, it's just one of those movies that was on TV a lot when I was growing up, and I had seen enough bits and pieces of to think that I had seen the whole thing. :)
Planning on picking up "Batman Begins" when it comes out this week, because it was super good. Other than that, not too many movies in my immediate future, though when J and I saw the preview for the new Harry Potter movie, we actually talked about maybe watching the movies, even if we don't read the books. He's pretty sure his mom has the first few; if not, I'm sure my mom does... :)
In other news, Halloween is in two weeks, and I'm excited as all hell! It looks like I'm gonna miss a few local things (wine tasting the day I have to drive to St. Louis, the big party that Saturday, and after-Halloween shopping, in particular), but I'm okay with that. The stuff I have planned for Seattle will make up for it... :) .

Wow... not sure why I neglected to post the past two days. Probably something about a mix between starting to work on a new book at work, combined with an online game that I've been learning, slowly but surely, since Tuesday night. It can get pretty time intensive, I've noticed... J and I spent about 2 or 2 1/2 hours on AIM last night, coordinating attacks and otherwise trying to rule the universe... I then had no clue where the time had gone... :) But it was a good time, so I'm not complaining. :)
Tonight, I finally get to see Corpse Bride. Tomorrow, we're going somewhere outside, though the exact location is yet to be determined. Sabbat game after that. Sunday will be errands and Requiem. All in all, it looks like it will be a good weekend. :)
Next week, I get to buckle down on working on hats, because we have a craft fair next Saturday. After that's over, I can finish my Halloween costume. After Halloween, I can get back to making more hats, trying to work on the afghan for Sarah's baby, and maybe my quilt. I don't think I'm gonna be doing a whole lot of crafty Christmas presents this year, cuz there just isn't gonna be enough time... especially because I decided I need purple armwarmers... no, really, I NEED them... :)
I don't have an End of the Work Week Wisdom this week, because if I did, it would probably just be a quote from Voltaire (the musician), and I don't have any good ones off the top of my head, except from "God Thinks," and you have to hear that whole song for most of the quotes to be non-offensive.
Making theme CDs is fun. "Necrophilia for Fun and Profit" will be done this evening... :) .

Keyword for the weekend as far as games went? Stressful. Well, 2 out of 3.
Friday night, OWBN. Mel walks into the room, and they're cranking MSI. Now, maybe it's just that I've not quite picked up on the MSI trend yet, but I can't stand it. In or out of character. So Mel asks very sweetly that they change it to something different, and they did, though it eventually went back to MSI. At least it wasn't as loud. Add to this that two of the most competent people in the city, one of whom is slated to become my Seneschal that night, aren't there for the first hour or two of game. Nor are any of my Toreador. Nor are the Giovanni, who I need desperately to speak to. Nor is the alleged very important dignitary from Clan Ventrue. So I sit there, with Jane sorta helping me out, but mostly just freaking out about everything.
As things go, it went relatively well, and Mel got to throw a temper tantrum over a wanna-be Anarch. Still need to patch a few things up with the Anarchs on the whole, because I was being a horrible bitch, but that's okay. Sometimes you just have to be bitchy when you're the Prince. Especially when a lot of people don't take you seriously as the Prince... *sigh*...
Saturday night was the Cammie game, and Viridian has adopted a Malkavian. :) Well, not really, but she and Rory have enough in common that they hang together, and then when Rory went into super freak out mode, Viridian got concerned. This game ended up stressful, due to some ST miscommunication, and Clan Tremere getting screwed pretty hard. The good news is that OOC, everyone knows about the screw-up, so things might go a little more gently IC. We can only hope.
Sunday night, Requiem, was the only non-stressful one. I also crocheted for the entire game, except while Kent was cutting the tag out of my shirt, to use in his Halloween costume. We kept telling Bobert that we would turn his game into a crafting circle. I offered to teach Jim how to cross-stitch... :) Despite that, it was nice and relatively relaxing. And 12 is a good number to suggest when the ST asks "how much XP do you want?" :)
You know, it's October now. I forgot to turn in my games for E-Con. Oh well, I wasn't all that interested in running anyway. If I ever read Deleria, and decide that I really want to run it, I'll just run it TT...
Oh, and Turkey Madness in about a month and a half... I think I'm gonna have to make a guest list this year, because after running the same game for three years, one day of the year, it's gotten a reputation... :) .

Random quote of the day...
"I know by now that you'll arrive About the time I stop waiting" --"I Miss You" by Bjork
Okay, so maybe it's not random, but that's okay. It works.
Ummm... movies... oh, I got "Party Monster," and re-watched that. Still a great movie. :) I also picked up a single disc containing "Pump Up the Volume," which I love, and "Bed of Roses," which I've never seen. I get the impression that the latter is some sort of sappy chick flick. I'll watch it at some point, but I probably won't like it all that much... it does have Christian Slater, though, and I did like "Untamed Heart," so many years ago when I saw it... :)
Still haven't seen "Corpse Bride." Might be seeing it this week, might not. I have no clue, at the moment.
Right. Not very chatty at the moment. Will work on that. .

End of the Work Week Wisdom time! :)
"She's an extraordinary girl In an ordinary world And she cant seem to get away" --"Extraordinary Girl" by Green Day
Yes, I still like Green Day, no matter how many goth points it loses me. :p
In other news, I have discovered that when I get plenty of sleep, I get more crazy than I am when I get not enough sleep. This is bizarre to some people, but it's a good kind of crazy, because it's tied in to me being hyper girl! Yeah, I've still got it... :)
Then again, it could just be general excitement, between Seattle and other things in my life... but I credit the good sleep I've been getting lately... :) Now, to just keep that up... :)
In other news, looking like a busy weekend. OWBN tonight, Becky's yard sale tomorrow, Cammie game tomorrow night, and Requiem Sunday night. Throw in grocery shopping, laundry, and possibly shopping with Kent tonight, and I've got a busy busy weekend! Whee! :) .

Crafting for this fall looks interesting indeed. I found a new pattern for the pumpkin hat, so I may have to give that a shot soonishly. I told Robert I'd bring one for Isabella, so she may get the prototype of the new one. :)
Last night, I had to make a foray into the craft closet of dOOm. It's only the craft closet of dOOm because it's far too full, and far too inaccessible. It's a long, narrow closet that runs under the stairs to the apartment above, so it's inevitable that if I can get in there (a feat in and of itself), I will bump my head on the sloped ceiling.
Anyways, because I have brilliant insane plans for my Halloween costumes, I had to get at the fabric, which is maybe halfway back in the closet. While I was in there, I got out my suitcase (so I don't have to make another foray before Seattle) and the quilt that I started making well over a year ago... maybe I'll finish it now... :)
Right, brilliant insane plans for my Halloween costumes. I'm doing a goth fairy look for the show on the 29th, and a belly dancer look for Halloween itself. The latter was only decided on this morning, when I saw how neat one of my skirts would look as part of that... :)
So for the goth fairy costume, I need to make the skirt and the wings. I thought I knew what I was doing with the skirt, but I may be confused... we'll have to see... :) The wings will be insanely easy, though I may not make them until I get to Seattle. :)
For the belly dancer costume, I need to make a top of some sort. I have two ideas for patterns for that, so I'll have to play around with it and see which one will work better. I also need to see if the fabric I bought matches my hip scarf or not. I also need to figure out something to keep me relatively warm, because it's gonna be cold up there... whee! :)
So those are the two big projects on the docket at the moment... never mind the craft fair that I'm doing on the 22nd, which I should probably make more stuff for... oi! .

Music related post for today, because I've got exciting news... :)
So I'm sitting around last Thursday night, Doc is in his room doing homework, J and Jesi are playing Pimp, and I'm putzing around on the computer. Not an abnormal Thursday night at our apartment... :)
I'm scanning through my LJ friends' page, and I see Robert, the lead singer from Abney Park, asking if anyone is interested being the merch girl (or boy) at their show on October 29th, in Tacoma... so I mention this to J and Jesi, along with the side note that it would be awesome to get to go see AP play... but I didn't think I wanted to go up for Halloween, because of a party I'm supposed to go to, and because there's an OWBN mini-event locally that weekend...
The both of them started screaming at me that I was insane, and that I had to go to Seattle, or they would smack me. So yeah, I tell Robert that I'll fly out there if I can be the merch girl...
And then I wait, all weekend, to hear back from him... I was a wee bit antsy... :)
Finally hear back from him on Sunday morning. Booked my plane tickets, hotel, and rent-a-car immediately.
So I'm going up to Seattle from October 28th-November 1st. Getting there in the late afternoon on Friday, and probably not doing much that night (the time zones are gonna fuck with my head, I just know it). Saturday, I think I'm going to hit the zoo and art museum in Tacoma (where I'm staying) and then the show is that night. Sunday, I'm gonna go up to Seattle and see a bunch of stuff that is all within a couple of blocks of each other. Monday, I'm going to go to the zoo in Seattle, and then to a party at Robert's house that night. And Tuesday, I fly back home, and collapse at my mom's house. :)
I can't frickin' wait! I took a decent vacation last Halloween, but it was only up to St. Louis. This is gonna be massive... :)
And I still need a 2nd costume idea. For the show, I'm going as a goth fairy. For Halloween itself, I don't know yet... I want to avoid stuff that requires funky makeup, cuz I'm not very good with funky makeup... so yeah, suggestions welcome... :) Keep in mind, however, that from what I've seen of the advance forecast, we're looking at about 50s during the day, and lower 40s-upper 30s at night... that's cold, to me... .

Game recap...
Friday night was a night filled with card games, which was a whole lot of fun, and here's hoping that we can do such things more often. 9 people in my apartment, mass insanity. :) We played a little bit of Pimp, more Beer Money and Fluxx, a bit of Bang!, and a whole lot of Are You a Werewolf. The last one was the most popular, I think, because it was fast and frenzied (hah, no pun intended!)... good stuff, all around, and a nice way to spend a Friday evening. :)
Saturday was Sabbat, and I think we're straight up and down fucked. About half a dozen of us ended the evening torpored, and in the hands of the Giovanni. This includes my character, Ember. Unfortunately, we're in limbo for the next two weeks, though the STs did tell us we don't need to make new characters yet... *sigh*... I'm working on my backup character anyway, which will be rather different from my standard characters, and will also mean that the only one of my characters who gets to dress up will be Mel... which will mean that probably none of my characters will be the dress-up type if she dies... wow...
Sunday was Requiem... I wonder if there was a full moon this past weekend, because there was a whole lot of grumpy from Saturday on... Jesi and I declared on numerous occasions that the boyz seemed to be PMSing at Requiem... okay, so maybe it wasn't all of them, but there was some grumpiness here and there. At any rate, all of the information about how many of us were diablerists came out (J and I are the only two in the group who aren't!), and so that had to get dealt with. Gotta love being on the Primogen, and getting to be the one who helps makes these decisions... :)
This coming weekend, we've got OWBN and the Cam game, along with the usual Requiem. OWBN workshop is tonight, and I have a little bit of stuff to get done there... .

Movies! :)
So we finally got to see "Jesus Christ: Vampire Hunter," after a long delay. J had borrowed a copy from Thor some time ago, but it wouldn't play on the PS2, nor on his (relatively old) computer. Thor finally re-burned it in a format that would play on a DVD player, so we finally got to see it. :) It was corny as all hell, but sometimes corny is okay... :)
Also finally got to see the Andrew Lloyd Webber "Phantom of the Opera" that came out this past Christmas. Megan, of course, being our mother's child, bought it right away. It just took me a while to remember to steal it from her. :) I was relatively impressed, though I still think, much like my mom, that Michael Crawford is far better at being the Phantom than anyone else. I would have liked to see Antonio Banderas in the role, but Gerard Butler did okay. I was really impressed with the guy who played Raoul, though, as he sounded quite a bit like whoever played him on the original soundtrack (I will always know every word to every song, because my mom played that CD so much... :) ).
In other news, I'm headed to Seattle at the end of the month. I'm exceptionally excited about this, and I'm greatly appreciative of Jesi and J for screaming at me that if I didn't go, they'd smack me. They were right, I have to do this... :) .
