Random ramblings cuz I have nothing better to do... or something... :)
This is the site formerly known as Anneke's Haven. Within, you will find information about my previous White Wolf chronicles, and other random gaming related stuff. I also have a blog here, where I talk about pretty much everything and anything, though it's primarily about my exciting life... the definition of exciting definitely being up for debate.
Enjoy your visit, and come back soon!
So the newly watched movies for this past week were "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" and "King Arthur." I had heard bad reviews of both, so I was a bit skeptical...
"Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" - Well, yeah, this one was not so good. It did make me want to get my own copy of the books, so I can see just where all they went wrong... because I know there was a whole lot of wrong... I seriously think there were parts in the movie that were NOT in the books... but maybe that's just cuz I haven't read them in four years or so...
"King Arthur" - This one, on the other hand, was rather good. Yes, there were historical inaccuracies that irked me (specifically the armor and weapons), but overall, it was a good story, and I like the idea of Arthur being at least partially Roman, because it makes sense, based on the evidence. Didn't know anything about the Sarmatians, so I'll have to do some research on them. But they seemed plausible, at least... :)
No movies on the agenda at present, though I ended up with a couple of free rentals, and J told me where the specific video store is located... so we shall see what there is to see... :)

In other news, I think I have an idea for music day (Wednesdays) next year. I will ponder it further, and reveal the plan when the time is right... :) .

Super short work week this week, since I'm here today and tomorrow. So today we'll do games, tomorrow we can do movies. Sounds like a plan. :)
Cammie game was Saturday, and it was a good time. Viridian managed to keep her temper pretty well in check, even with having to let them kill the Tremere who was under her accounting and fully bound to her. *sigh* Ah well, at least I came up with a plan that was good, and at least I got assigned as the team leader for the new project. :)
Old School by Night was the BOMB! Dani was one of the older characters there, and once the old gang all recognized each other, there was nothing stopping us. It's interesting, in particular, to see the ways in which each of the characters are coping with learning that everything they've known for the past 10 years has been a figment of some crazy Ravnos's imagination. Dani's coping mechanism: make her current reality as close to her imagined reality. So she's desperately seeking Magdalena, though she and the Traveller have agreed that if they can't find Mags, they'll make a new one. Lucas has gone by the wayside, but Mandy (f.k.a. Peaches) plans to get Dani her pets back, and Dani will be looking for Tommy... and if she can't find him, she'll make a new boyfriend... this one will be even better than the old one was... :) Do not let the Ravnos have Dominate. It's not a good thing. :)
But yeah, lots to do for that game, as I need to let Dennis know all sorts of stuff about Dani, and then get her started on uncovering what is real and what is imaginary. And replacing all of the imaginary. Because Dani never was really good about coping in a rational fashion... :)
OWBN this Friday, Sabbat on Saturday. You know, on top of the craft fair craziness... ooh, and did I mention OWBN is an Elysium?! .

There wasn't much in the way of game this past weekend, what with us getting to game VERY late on Friday, and the Student Center closing early. It was just too darn cold to play outside, honestly. So I got a few things taken care of, but between being relatively drained already (you try helping someone shave their head, and it being a 2 hour long process!) and the short time span, I didn't do much.
Sabbat game was cancelled due to lack of site, but that should be remedied for the Cam game this weekend... though we do need to find that out officially...
The big thing I'm looking forward to, gaming-wise, for this upcoming weekend, is Old School by Night. Yes, once again, I will be back in action as Dani Ghivanni. And the world will never be the same... muhahahahah...
It's kinda sad that I already have my costume worked out. And have, for almost a month. Yes, I am sad and pathetic like that. :) Unfortunately, J mentioned D's bandana the other night, and I realized I don't know how I'm going to work Dani's bandana into her costume... cuz they match, you see... D was a Latin King, and Dani was a D fan. ;)
At any rate, it should be all kinds of interesting, between the characters who will be there, and the premise of the game on the whole... I'm so looking forward to it... and I'm so glad that I have Monday off of work, so that I can recover from what will certainly be a very long game... :)

In other news, one more day of work this week, and then the weekend of insanity (pt. 1). On Thursday, Doc and I are gonna make brunch before he goes to sleep for the day, and then that evening, everyone is going to Thor and Cindy's for the traditional Thanksgiving party. Friday, I'm driving to St. Louis for what is being billed as the Last. Party. EVAR. :) Saturday, I'll come back to C-dale for Cammie game and a party afterwards. Sunday, I'm supposed to get together with Liz to tie dye, and then drive to Paducah for Old School by Night. So Monday will most definitely be the recuperation day.
And then it's back to work for two days, to finish the book I'm editing, and then the weekend of insanity (pt. 2) begins... whee! :) .

Well, I managed to watch a BUNCH of movies over the course of the past week or two, so we shall mention some... :)
"The Gamers" - This movie is a riot, especially if you've ever played D&D. It's an exceptionally low budget, indy movie, but it managed to win some award at GenCon and get distributed. The acting is more or less crap, but the premise and execution are pretty good. It's making the rounds of the local gaming crowd, and people are enjoying it immensely. :)
"Big Fish" - I bought this a while back, but hadn't broken it out till the other day. Still as good as it was in the theatre, and still makes me wanna cry at parts. But I watched it with the sound almost completely off, cuz Doc was sleeping at the time, so I missed a lot, I know.
"Madagascar" - Had to buy this as soon as humanly possible. The penguin Christmas short is amazing. You have to see it. :)
"Blade: Trinity" - I had been avoiding this one because I heard it sucked, but I was able to borrow it (along with a few other movies that are supposed to be crappy), so I didn't mind wasting a couple of hours watching it. And honestly, it wasn't all that bad. It portrays vampires VERY comic book-like, but other than that, it's okay. I mean, it IS based on comics... :)
I have "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" and "King Arthur" both on the docket for this week, both borrowed. w00t! :)

In other news, only three days of work this week, and lots to get done. I should get started on that... :) .

Well, the book is going smoothly enough for now. Out of 17 articles, only 5 of them need serious work. Four of them are totally done. So I'm definitely making the necessary progress. I will be very glad to hand this off to someone else, and get a break from it. And don't worry, folks, I'll be sure to let you know when you, too, can purchase your very own book with my name on the front cover! :)
That, of course, is the most exciting part, the part that keeps me working on it when I'm sick and tired of it... :)
In other news, it's gotten super cold over the course of the week, which means I need to work on weatherproofing my apartment. This will likely be my project for tomorrow... yeah, exciting, I know... :)
Realizing that Christmas is approaching WAY too quickly, and that I need to start figuring out what I'm buying for people and such. Craziness, I assure you. I've done a very tiny amount of Christmas shopping already, but mostly that's because I found good stuff for people far in advance of Christmas... mostly, though, I've done nothing.
I need to make Darci-Anna's stocking, though, and that's gonna be a pain, because I'm pretty sure the cross stitch box is buried in the closet. Maybe that will be my secondary project for tomorrow. Cleaning the damn living room closet. Yeah... sounds like a good plan... :)

Oi... back from my long weekend, and mostly to say that I think I'm going to break from the usual posting pattern for the next few weeks, as my work schedule is pretty crazed until December... and even then it won't get normal for long.
The book I'm working on is supposed to be to one of the other editors by the end of the month now, rather than this past Friday. So I have three more days this week, three days next week, and 2 days at the end of November in which to get it done. This is gonna be difficult, but I think I can get it done...
If I don't post for a few days running, don't be surprised... work and other stuff is probably up to my eyeballs... :) .

Craftiness has been slow recently... this isn't entirely a good thing, as we have a craft fair in three weeks. Luckily, I have a lot of stock already made, but I could always use more. *sigh*...
I have mad plans to make bottlecap belts and/or purse straps. Everyone has been saving me their bottle caps for ages... now I just need to find the backing materials, and see if my mad plans will actually pan out. If they do, yeah, I'll probably be selling these... I already have a request to do a bottlecap guitar strap if I can make this work. :)
But in more practical matters, J has a couple of pairs of pants that need patched, so I'll have to fall back on my not-so-mad repair skills. Mostly, it's just trying to patch them in such a way that doesn't look goofy or crazy. Mostly, it's matching the fabric of his pants... :)
Looking forward to my four day weekend, so don't expect updates till Tuesday, most likely... :) .

Continuing on in my theme of finding new bands, I've got yet another one. I Am Ghost.
Much like A7X, they're this sorta metal/punk/goth thing. The guitar riffs are definitely metal, the screaming is definitely metal/punk, and the lyrics are either horror punk or goth... though I'm inclined to put them in the former category because of the way in which the lyrics are more screamed than sung.
The fun part, of course, is that I Am Ghost seems to have a female somewhere in the band, who sings background vocals primarily. And the intro song to their CD is creepy as all hell, and I love it!
But yeah, definitely good stuff. They're another fluke find, due to LaunchCast this time. Only one CD thus far, so that's pretty kewl... now, can they come to this area some time when I can see them? A7X played Pop's on Monday night, but between recently returning from Seattle, and not wanting to go to a punk show at Pop's, I didn't go.
Oooh, in other music news, Rasputina is at Pop's in December. I need to find out who will give me money for tickets, and buy those. Everyone who won't give me money is on their own, unless they're a special case (J, if he wanted to go; and Thor, Cindy, and Jesi, cuz I know they'll pay me back). .

Well, OWBN on Friday went remarkably well. Mel, like Dawn, had gone on a brief vacation, and everything seemed a whole lot less stressful when she got back. True, her Sheriff was in some sort of eternal slumber, and she hasn't seen her Seneschal in weeks, but she still has Jane, and the Primogen picked a new Harpy, so Morrison will be happy when he gets back. And the Anarch problem has diminished, the Giovanni problem has diminished, and the only blood hunt Mel has called thus far has been completed. woo hoo! :)
Saturday night was Sabbat game, which was Palla Grande. Pretty good time, though I did forget my fairy wings. I've also pretty well determined that I'm gonna go ahead and buy Horrid Form for Ember, because then she gets 6 extra Phys traits, and does 2 lethal barehanded, and 3 lethal if she spends the blood to toss Bonecraft on top of that. Ember isn't supposed to be a fighting machine, but she got really lucky in the "Cainite King of the Ring," and fought someone even wussier than her, so now she thinks she's the man... or something... :)
Skipped Requiem on Sunday, but hopefully will be getting back into that this Sunday. Haven't played in like 3 weeks now... :) Old School By Night got moved back to the last Sunday in November instead, which is a pain in the butt, but ah well... .

Watched a considerable number of movies this past week, all things considered. And by that, I mean I actually watched three movies. 2 old, 1 new.
"X-Files: Fight the Future" - I had seen this many many years ago, when it came to the theatres. In fact, if I remember correctly, this was one of those movies that we had to drive from Kirksville to Columbia (an hour and a half drive) to see, because it wasn't going to play in Kirksville. Yeah, Kirksville was that small. Any rate, I bought it before going to Seattle, because it was cheap at Target, and Mom and I watched it when I got back. One of the few movies I can actually stand David Duchovny in. :)
"Kingdom of Heaven" - Kent bought this, and J borrowed it, so I got to watch it Saturday. It may have been that I just wanted to check my Archspace, but it seemed really long, and dragged a lot. Meh, it wasn't all bad, it just wasn't great.
"Batman Begins" - Because I bought it the day it came out on DVD, but it took us a while to get around to watching it. It's still as good as it was in the theatre. :)
As for upcoming stuff, "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" is out on DVD tomorrow, so I may have to go get that, and J is going to bring "The Gamers" over for Doc and I to watch at some point this week, I think. So that's kewl... :) .

Alas, the quote of the century shall not be used for End of the Work Week Wisdom. Because while it was great and wonderful, I don't think it would necessarily qualify as wisdom. And it's probably not fit for public consumption anyway.
Instead, for today, I shall merely point out that when you want to make a pile of leaves in your yard, RAKES are the necessary implement. Feet work tolerably well, but slowly. Brooms don't do much. The Swiffer does even less. Jesi running down to the other end of the yard, grabbing an armful of leaves, and running back to the pile is nearly fruitless.
At least J didn't hurt himself jumping into our way too tiny pile of leaves. And at least there are no known injuries from the gymnastics.
And if you make enough pouty noises, you might be lucky enough to get the spatula covered in cheesecake. Even if you do have to share it.
Just watch out for the beaters from the mixer. They're... dangerous... :) .

I have returned from my trip to Seattle, and it was good. :) I have already written a lengthy recap of the adventure, posted elsewhere, and rather than reposting it here (trust me it's super long, and would take up lots of space), I give you some amusing quotes of the excursion.
"Merging is a serious committment." --Jeff, on traffic in Seattle
"It's like what would happen if punk rockers owned a Denny's." --Jeff, on The Hurricane (a diner type place)
"She told me that I'm struggling to become a man, and that I have a lot of issues." --Nick the neighbor boy, on his tarot card reading (a.k.a. Nick versus the tarot cards or Nick versus the Pagans)
"It's another beautiful princess!" --Chloe (age 3), on seeing my belly dancer costume, complete with headpiece
And many many more, but these are the ones that stick out the most in my memory.
So many thanks to Jeff, for showing me around the city, helping me get a quasi-appreciation of wine, and otherwise giving me things to do throughout my trip. Also thanks to Robert and the rest of Abney Park, for letting the crazy girl from Illinois come to Seattle to see them play, and hang out; and also for bringing Nick the neighbor boy to man the merch table while I saw the show.
And also to the many kewl people I got to meet and talk with... it was a super good time.
Nonetheless, I am very pleased to be back in Illinois, as I missed my friends terribly while I was gone. Especially J. But I suppose you all probably already guessed that one... :) .
