Random ramblings cuz I have nothing better to do... or something... :)
This is the site formerly known as Anneke's Haven. Within, you will find information about my previous White Wolf chronicles, and other random gaming related stuff. I also have a blog here, where I talk about pretty much everything and anything, though it's primarily about my exciting life... the definition of exciting definitely being up for debate.
Enjoy your visit, and come back soon!
Because I'm about to go on an extended vacation, which will probably involve little to no blogging, my End of the Work Week Wisdom will be fairly simple...
1) I want to finish my TMBG quilt. It shouldn't take too long to do, and perhaps I will work on this next week, when I'm off work all week. When it's done, I'm not sure what I'm going to do with it... I may actually try to sell it on eBay or something, because I honestly don't need another blanket, and there are several people I'd like to gift with it... but that's the problem... it's only one quilt, and there are SEVERAL people... :(
Also, if the making a quilt out of old T-shirts and selling it on eBay goes well... then I might have a new side line of work... :)
2) I want to work on my overall sewing skills. I'm thinking seriously about buying myself a new sewing machine after Christmas, and may even go with a serger... I'd like to be able to work with patterns, and there are a lot of little things that I want to sew, but between where my fabric is located, and the noise of my sewing machine, I don't drag it out all that often. If we really do make the craft area in Cindy and Thor's basement, though, it'll be easier... even if I will have to go over there to sew... :)
3) I need to work on whittling down my yarn stash. This means making things. This means coming up with things to make. I have a few projects in mind... a) arm warmers. These are easy, fun, and practical. I need purple ones. Other people will likely need other colors. :) b) purses. I've got a new idea on how to attach the lining, so I need to work on some purses to line. :) c) large crocheted hearts? This is an experimental idea, obviously for the Valentine's Day craft fair. We'll see how that goes. :)
4) I think I want to try to get into marbelizing paper. This is another project probably best left for when we have the craft area done, but it seems kind of appealing. And as Cindy said when I brought it up, if I marbelize card stock, I may be able to market that to scrapbookers... and even though I think scrapbooking is of the devil (not in a good way), it is a big market... :)
I think that's all for the continuing and new projects for the coming year. Now, we'll see if I actually do this, or if I continue to slack. But I do at least have a few goals. :) .

Some people will have already seen this, but as it is music day today, and nearly Christmas, all I have to say is this:
Gothic Christmas by Within Temptation we're gonna have a gothic christmas, that is what we'll do we're gonna have a gothic christmas, hope you'll have one too santa's going to wear a black dress just for me and you santa's going to grunt in latin and slay a dragon or two rudolph, he will change his name cuz rudolplh just sounds pretty lame now we'll call him ragnagord the evil reindeer overlord his nose it shall be red no more it will be blackened to the core his eyes will glow an evil glow to guide the chariot through the snow we want to wish you a gothic christmas we want to wish you a gothic christmas we want to wish you a gothic christmas we want to wish you a gothic christmas we're gonna have a gothic christmas, that is what we'll do we're gonna have a gothic christmas, hope you have one too we want to wish you a gothic christmas we want to wish you a gothic christmas we want to wish you a gothic christmas hope you'll have a gothic christmas too
Because it makes me laugh. :)
In other musical news, I finally have The Cruxshadows' cover of "Happy Xmas (War is Over)", which was originally a John Lennon song. I love John Lennon, but Rogue does this one justice, I have to say. :)
Yes, there is goth Christmas music, and I love it muchly. :) .

I forgot to post yesterday. This happens sometimes. Mainly when I'm super busy at work, as I was yesterday.
There are no games to speak of from this past week. Nor will there be games to speak of for some time to come. We are in the boring part of the year, where gamers clamor for something to do, and generally find little to do.
Oh, wait, I'm wrong, there was OWBN on Friday. But there's not much to comment about there. Short game, low attendance.
Getting ready to make my excursion to St. Louis for Christmas. Leaving this Friday, returning at some point after Sunday. The exact details are currently in the air, as I'm trying to meet up with some people in St. Louis, but don't know what their holiday schedules look like. I've got my plans for Friday night lined up, Saturday is booked with family nonsense, and the bulk of Sunday will be also. I may come back to C-dale on Monday, or I might not. I just dunno yet. Hoping to figure it out soon, though, because I think I'll just come home if there's nothing going on up there... .

Well, no post yesterday, cuz I was off work. This meant that I was able to finish my Christmas shopping, though, and that's a good thing. :)
I'm also getting my craft projects mostly out of the way, which means I might be able to make some stuff for myself. This is a good thing, because I want more armwarmers, so that I have some that match even more of my clothes. I'm vaguely considering making some to sell, too, since they are relatively simple, now that I have a good pattern worked out. Just as long as I don't throw out that scrap of paper, that is... :)
Game tonight, Christmas party tomorrow. Sunday up in the air. Then another week of work, and then I go to St. Louis... possibly for more than the weekend, though that, too, is up in the air... I need to talk to Megan, and then talk to some people in St. Louis... there are a lot of people up there I'd like to spend some time with, and I'm off for an entire week, so it could be done... it's just a matter of making the arrangements...
No End of the Work Week Wisdom this week, as I've barely worked this week, and I've already distributed all of the wisdom I have to spare for today... .

Hmmm... I seem to have neglected to post yesterday. I suppose that's okay, there was all kinds of neat stuff that happened at game on Saturday, but I can't talk about it... it's all sekrit and such... :)
For music today, I shall pimp Pandora. Which is a very kewl online radio station of sorts that you customize to what you like. But unlike LaunchCast, which bases what you might like on other bands that are liked by people who like the bands you like (yeah, I'm not sure I follow that!), it bases what you might like on qualities of the music. Like, for example, it told me I would like a band due to "gravelly male vocals"... well, I do usually like that, but not in this case. Anyways, it's getting better at not playing crap I don't like, and it seems easier to train than LaunchCast is... so bonus! :)
And this means I'm getting a nice little collection of songs to look for the next time I bother with LimeWire. It's good that addiction wore off quickly. Though I'm about to break 6,500 songs on my computer... :) .

Well, I actually have a few movies to mention this week! :)
"The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe" - Meh. I'm not saying I didn't like it, I'm just saying I was a little disappointed. I was expecting something on a slightly more grandiose scale, I think. I also don't remember the books particularly well, so I'm not sure if it was that the plot was predictable, or if I actually remembered stuff from the books. Liam Neeson as the voice of the Lion was nice, though... very good choice. :)
"Star Wars" & "The Empire Strikes Back" - J has the almost original trilogy on VHS, so I borrowed them. And as I watch them, I am struck by a number of things. 1) I suppose if I have to get an altered version of the movies, these are acceptable. They only changed a few things, and at least it isn't Hayden Christensen at the end as the ghost of Anakin. 2) People weren't kidding when they said that Jar-Jar Binks was not the first annoying character in the series. C3PO is particularly annoying, as is Yoda, when you first see him.
Eventually, probably tomorrow, I will finish off the trilogy, but I didn't want to start "Return of the Jedi" at like 9 p.m. last night. And I will once again bemoan the fact that they took away Billy Dee Williams rhythm by changing the Ewok song at the end. I liked the old Ewok song!
In other news, Rasputina tonight... and Dawn does the happy dance! :) .

End of the Work Week Wisdom:
"The Pope demands biscuits." --J. You definitely had to be there.
Well, the results of the tie-dyeing have been reviewed, and I would call it a successful endeavor. In particular, I'm pretty pleased with the yarn... :)
I bought 5 skeins of white wool yarn so that I could dye it to my liking, crochet it into things, and then felt it... which, for those of you who don't know, means that I make it extra big to begin with, and then shrink it with hot water and the dryer. In other words, what you usually want to avoid doing to your wool sweaters, lest they shrink and become Dawn sized sweaters (you don't know how many shrunken sweaters I've owned in my lifetime).
So I did one of the skeins in shades of blues, greens, and purples. It looks amazing, and I only wish that I had made MORE of it in that color scheme. I did another skein in pink, orange, and yellow, and it reminds me of a Fraggle. That skein, for some reason, started to felt a little bit, but I think that overall, it'll be okay. I'll need to be a bit more gentle with it when I start to crochet, though, and might want to make it sort of medium sized, in case it won't felt as small as I want it to.
I still have 3 skeins left, though, which I will probably dye with Koolaid. No, seriously, this works. I just need to buy a whole TON of Koolaid (unsweetened) and then go to town. I think I'm going to try to make two of the remaining skeins in the green/blue/purple area, and the other one in something which will go along with the bright colors of the partially felted skein. That will give me a whole lot more to work with for both.
But I have to wait a bit before I do any of this, as I have a number of projects to finish as soon as possible. Three of them are commissioned projects, but unfortunately, the fourth has to take priority, due to a deadline of this weekend... GAH! I did this to myself last year, with the cross-stitch, why am I surprised that, yet again, I'm rushing at the last minute?
In other news, it's snowing today, and has been since this morning. The roads I can see from my office, which are somewhat back roads, look decent, so that's hopeful for the rest of town. I kinda need to go to Wal-Mart tonight, to get things to enable me to winterize my apartment before it gets too much colder. Right now, sitting on the couch is an exercise in great bravery, as it's almost as cold as being outside... okay, maybe not quite, but you get the idea... :) .

I don't have much in the way of new music to report on. Side effect of being super busy is that I've been just listening to CDs at work, cuz it's easier, and thus not finding anything new.
Kent had me make a CD of some fairly dance-y techno. I like it muchly, though I couldn't tell you who half of the bands on it are. I had heard of maybe a couple of them before he requested the CD. It's good stuff, just not stuff I knew about. But I can't remember any of the band names, really, so I can't pimp them here. :)
He also suggested making a "Heroes and Villains" CD, which I think I will work on at some point. Themed mix CDs seem to be a popular thing at the moment. So far, I've done "Necrophilia for Fun and Profit" (8 songs that actually fit the theme, and the rest just stuff I threw on there) and "This is Halloween." I've also got a winter/holiday themed mix CD in the works, but I'm not 100% pleased with how it's turning out, so it still needs some tweaking.
Jesi and I are going to see Rasputina next Monday, and it will be much fun. We're both dressing up / gothing out. It will be glorious, even if I will be having to get ready in a McDonalds bathroom, because I know I can't drive a long distance in what I want to wear. I will also likely freeze until I get into the club. Need to work on that factor. :)
Expect a recap of new bands I've discovered this year before the end of the year, and then an explanation of my plans for music day for the new year... :) .

And now, back to our regularly scheduled week. :)
Friday night was OWBN, and though the site issues sucked, the game itself was decent, at least from my perspective. I got to roleplay with a whole bunch of people, and got at least a few things sorted out. Finding out mid-game that your Seneschal has taken another position in another Domain is not a happy thing; finding out that the Nosferatu that you joke around with about being your boyfriend was out with other girls, and thus you shunning him, is amusing, until he finds out that you've been seeing a Toreador on the side. Oops... ;) And humiliating the hell out of another Toreador is what we live for... and all I can say about that one is that we were honestly pretty gentle... :) It was a nice mix of getting some serious business dealt with and being a little goofy, which was a good way to spend a Friday evening when you're exceptionally tired, and just want to get a backrub and go to bed, before you have to get up godawful early the next morning.
Saturday night was Sabbat, and I literally fell asleep on one of the couches briefly. This was not the fault of the STs, this was due to my extreme lack of sleep. The game itself was pretty good, I was just too damn tired to properly appreciate it. I also almost got Ember killed, which wouldn't have been an entirely sad thing, but the rest of the sect got her back... crazy people... :)
This coming weekend, we've got Cammie game on Saturday, which would be better if I had remembered to send in my in-weeks... :( At least I told the STs about my XP spending! After this weekend, though, games dry up for a good month. I'm thinking people want me to run TT at some point, but I don't know if/when that will be feasible. I get a week off work between Christmas and New Years, but a lot of other people work during that time frame, because they don't work at the university.
Regardless of what goes on that week gaming wise, it'll still be a good time, because I could use a whole week off work to relax! Between craziness at work, craziness in real life, and just the daily grind of life in general, the past few months have been hectic and draining. I'm really looking forward to a week where I can sleep late, lounge around in my pajamas all day, and hang out with whoever is free during that time frame. It will be lovely. :) .

Another post rearranged week, mainly because I haven't watched any movies for the past week. I almost put one on yesterday, but as I didn't have any good ideas on what to watch, I didn't. :)
But I did do the craft fair thing last Thursday-Saturday, and it ended up being not too bad, overall. I didn't do well on Thursday and Friday, but Saturday made up for it. Over the course of the weekend, I got three commissioned projects, two of which were pre-paid, so that made me happy. Now, to find the time to finish those, along with all of the other stuff that I need to be working on (including one commission that is long overdue, but I can't find the yarn I need for it. Part of it may have to be rethought due to that fact. *sigh*)
I have decided, though, that I'm going to try to go with some slightly different stuff in the future, because everyone and their brother makes hats to sell at these things. I've taken apart a large number of hats already, and I think once I get a few more taken apart, and get to a point where I'm happy with the stock I have, there will be no more new ones made, except for special requests. Too many people want a very specific color combination, and it always turns out to be one that I hadn't thought of. *sigh*...
I think I'm going to turn my attention to making purses for a bit, and also some pillows. I made J a pillow just for the hell of it, and then one for Cindy for her b-day. And they are the softest, awesome-est pillows ever. :)
And I need to make more yellow roses before Valentine's Day, because I have none left. Plenty of reds and pinks, just no yellow, or white. Need both of those, I think. :)
I also got to do some tie-dyeing yesterday, for the first time in ages. Was a lot of fun, and I get to go back over there tomorrow to see how our stuff turned out. I hope it will be good. I tie-dyed some yarn, and I'm looking forward to then getting to crochet with it... but I bet it's gonna turn my hands funny colors... :) .
