Random ramblings cuz I have nothing better to do... or something... :)
This is the site formerly known as Anneke's Haven. Within, you will find information about my previous White Wolf chronicles, and other random gaming related stuff. I also have a blog here, where I talk about pretty much everything and anything, though it's primarily about my exciting life... the definition of exciting definitely being up for debate.
Enjoy your visit, and come back soon!
Busy at work today, but folding 400 pieces of paper into envelope size is tedious, at best, and rough on the fingers. So I'm taking a break. :)
Cammie game on Saturday night, which was good stuff. We're slowly but surely working our way through one of the plots, which necessitates a major combat every game. This isn't all bad, as we're getting somewhere with the plot. 3 down, 3 to go. I suspect two of the remaining three will be insanely hard. This last one was no cake walk. But we'll figure something out. We always do, even if it is "fuckin' anorexic," like the plan for #2. :)
OSBN was Sunday night, and though we had to wrap early, it was still good times. Read some tarot cards for a few people, and decided that the magic 8 ball either works for the Sabbat, lies, or is broken. :) Still haven't managed to get Dani re-Acknowledged, but she got adopted by the Malkavians, so it shouldn't be too difficult. That, and she is really and truly Cam, she's just cranky about it sometimes. Oh, and there was MUCH madness with the D situation, but hey, whatcha gonna do... we're operating on ancient false history at this point, but it's hard to get over it... for both of us, in our own ways... :) Traveller (Jim) and I had a nice little heart to heart, after he tried to take away my straw, which somehow had shaped itself into a D... ;)
Anyways, yeah, lotsa work to do for real work, and an Elysium for OWBN on Friday. I'm finally in a position where I don't have to plan anything IC, but I'm helping Jim with a project OOC, which I need to get done ASAP. Probably tomorrow. That should do. :) .

Well, I saw a couple of movies this past week...
"Underworld: Evolution" - When I saw the first Underworld movie in the theatre, I wasn't impressed. I bought it for cheap on DVD, and grew to really like it. I'm wondering if the case will be the same with this one. :) Mostly, I was just irked by certain inconsistencies. Like a corset that had a zipper for the sex scene, but for the rest of the movie, did not. And chalk drawings that stayed in a damp cave for 1400 years. You know, little things. But they irk me nonetheless. :)
"Robots" - This was too adorably cute. Well, at least I say it was too adorably cute. Boys may disagree. That's okay. :) But yeah, definitely a good kids movie, and fun for adults as well. :)
I also watched some old movies... Batman Begins, Queen of the Damned, and bits of Dune (the original one). The last was on as background noise, but I told J that if he actually wanted to watch it (he's never seen it), I'd be happy to sit down and watch the whole thing again. Dune is good stuff... :)
::..::
In other news, for the curious, I have decided NOT to go see NIN next weekend. The opening band is someone I've never heard of, and I suspect they are a lot like Bloc Party or Death from Above 1979. Not that this is a bad thing, but a) I've never heard of them, b) Champaign is far away, and c) I think I know what concert I actually want to go to this spring instead. More on that when I get it sorted completely out. :) .

End of the Work Week Wisdom:
"The question is not how far. The question is, do you possess the constitution, the depth of faith, to go as far as is needed?" --from Boondock Saints
I dunno, the sentiment of that quote just came to me, and I thought it was a good one to use this week.
I'm so glad it's Friday. :) Only a couple of more hours of work, then home to get some stuff done, then hopefully hanging out with a couple of people, then an art gallery opening, and then off to Paducah for the night. Yeah, that's a whole bunch of stuff, but it all makes sense, and it will be good... :)
In completely unrelated other news, I just had the kewlest idea for something to crochet, only the more I think about it, the more I think it's a bad idea. I have a pattern for crocheted Mary Jane slippers, and they're in red on the calendar page. I was just thinking red glittery yarn for about two seconds, till I realized how scratchy that would be on my feet. :( Ah well...
So I finally started working on the quilt. And it's not too difficult, surprisingly. There's a lot of work to be done, but it's relatively easy work. And that's kewl. :)
Other than that, I'm madly making roses for the Valentine's Day craft fair. I still need to dig out the stems and floral tape, but I've got about 20 already done. Still a lot more to make, because I'm gonna have a TON of different colors. Mostly all rose-esque colors, but some odd ones, like black and purple... no, not together... :)
I'm seriously thinking that a new sewing machine is gonna be my big purchase for February, as that's one that might just be able to pay for itself, if I make the right stuff with it. :)
Oh, and I have an altered dress to alter some more. Thank you, Megan, for doing all kinds of crazy things to a perfectly good dress... now, to make a couple of minor changes, like making it a tiny bit smaller... and then... yeah, it'll be interesting... :)

Ummm, music. Not anything new to mention, other than the fact that Gregg's taste in music SUCKS... ;) If you read this, Gregg, I'm mostly kidding... but you do like a lot of bands that I don't like. :)
I've got a list of stuff to download at home, and there are a couple of new bands on there... so we'll see how that pans out.
If you're in C-dale or the immediate area, you could go see Brat Pack on Friday night at the Copper Dragon. I won't be there, as it turns out, but it's still a good show to try to catch. Of course, the biggest problem is whether you will end up standing in line in the cold for nothing, or actually get to see them. Apparently the line for Hairbanger's Ball last Saturday was snaked around all of the buildings around Copper, and many people in line didn't get in. So yeah, though I did want to see them on Friday, I won't miss the "standing in the cold without a coat and maybe not getting in" aspect of the equation... :)
As for another concert, NIN is playing in Cham-bana on February 10th. There are still tickets available, and they're only $35. There's also no opening act announced as of the last time I checked. If I could find out who was opening, that would make my decision a lot easier. Gonna go look into that when I'm done with this post...
And finally, the Sisters of Mercy are playing in Chicago on March 14th (I think). On hearing this, I went "kewl... now I guess I should hear some of their stuff before I decide that I'm going..." :) Still haven't decided on that. I'm thinking no-ish. .

Well, let's see here... game recap...
Friday night was OWBN, and Mel stepped down as Prince. And the weight off of my shoulders and hers was IMMENSE. It was wonderful. :) And then I got to have a fun, scandalous scene with G-Lo (Angelo Giovanni, to those who aren't his close personal friends)... and another fun, scandalous (though in a totally different way) scene with Vermin. ;) Mel's unlife is going to be interesting now, I think... :) But at least she got rid of the target before it got the best of her... :)
Saturday night was the final game for Where Angels Fear to Tread, and it was a good time. Combat heavy, but there was a lot of fun stuff too, like running around in Horrid Form and having a race to see who could Embrace the most people in five minutes... :) It's sad to see the game go, to a certain extent, but, at the same time, it had been so long since we had gotten anything accomplished in that game, it was really fairly disappointing... we just couldn't win... (except then we did... odd, that...)
This weekend, there's Cammie game on Saturday, and Old School on Sunday. Definitely looking forward to both of those... :) .

Let's see here... I think there were only a couple of movies this week...
"Rules of Attraction" - Yeah, this was a weird one. Clint had mentioned it, and it sounded vaguely interesting. Then Jesi came back and tells me she bought it... so I told her to bring it over! :) But yeah. Very weird, slightly surreal, and not much in the way of plot. Interesting, in points, while other points made me kind of go "I KNEW that person" (from back in the dorms, so many years ago)... so that was weird and a bit bittersweet... I dunno...
"Serenity" - Yes, I finally bought it, and watched it twice. Mainly that was because when we watched it on Saturday, there were at least 20 other things going on, so I had to see it by myself as well. :) But ohmygod is it good! I want there to be more, but I know there probably won't be... so I have to live with the one season and one movie... *pout*...
Planning on seeing "Underworld: Evolution" this week, probably tomorrow. I suspect it will be mediocre. But we'll see... :)
::..::
In other news, I'm done with jury duty, and back to work as normal. Now we enter the part of the year where I work pretty much every day, with no days off. At least not till Valentine's Day. Which is like 3 weeks from tomorrow... gah! .

End of the Work Week Wisdom:
"I want to be just like Jayne when I grow up!" --Jim... because I told him he WASN'T allowed to develop such an opinion...
The Firefly infection spreads. Muhahahaah...
In other news, yesterday was a great day, then a sucky day, and then a great day again. This is what happens when E-mail takes 24 hours to arrive. Ah well. At least that got cleared up. :)
And in other other news, game tonight, and yeah... well, we'll see how that goes. Game tomorrow night too. I have no clue what I'm doing on Sunday. I suspect by that point, I'll be okay with not having plans. Maybe I'll finally go buy "Serenity"... yeah, that sounds like a plan... :) .

And then I forgot to post on Wednesday... I'm brilliant, brilliant, I tell you... the only problem with brilliance is the accompanying forgetfulness... :)
Anyways, as far as music news goes, I don't have a lot. I found a new band that I think I might like, though I can't recall their name correctly right now... but they do an amazing cover of "Dead Man's Party," so that's why they're currently on my list.
I also am slowly but surely reconstructing my playlists, after buying my 300 gig hard drive and transferring all of my music to it. I lost all my playlists, and all of my play counts, so a lot of stuff is starting over from scratch. There's also still a lot of refining the collection, as I find random songs that are on my playlist that I thought I had deleted, and finding songs repeated on occasion.
::..::
In crafty news, there isn't any. I have a craft fair in about 3 1/2 weeks, and I'm at least partially prepared, due to stock remaining from last year, but I know I need to work on some more. There's also about 2/3rds of the 2nd in a pair of armwarmers that continues to sit on my desk. Tonight, I'm buckling down and finishing the armwarmer. Then I'll either crochet more, or sew. But I'm doing something crafty tonight, dammit.
::..::
And in other, other news, I'm done with jury duty for this week. I get to find out on Friday if I go in or not next week. It's not all bad, as I got to read for most of the time I was there this week, and I get paid at least some money for it. So that will go into the "buying stuff I want" fund, which involves a fairly major purchase each month for the better part of this year. The hard drive was the first purchase. Haven't decided for sure what number 2 will be... .

Gah! No work on Monday + lots of movie and game stuff to mention = we cram it all into a summary post today! :)
So, movies:
Watched "Boondock Saints" because Michael had never seen it, and it was still good. He liked it too, except for when he fell asleep... I blame narcolepsy. Cuz how could you fall asleep during that movie?!
Over the weekend, I watched "Eurotrip," "Equilibrium," and "Wedding Crashers" with Clint. The first and third were both very funny, though the first was funnier than the third. "Equilibrium" was much better than I was anticipating, because I had been told it sucked. But yeah, Christian Bale is yummy, and he kicks a whole lotta ass in that movie. That character might, in fact, be kewler than Batman... ;)
As for games:
Played Paducah Sabbat on Saturday (even though it was originally cancelled) and had a relatively good game, though small. Devyn got a diablerie that got her nothing, really, but 2 XP. Whee, and stuff. :)
Was gonna play Paducah OWBN on Sunday, but it ended up being cancelled. *sigh* Ah well. I guess now I just have to go down there for their next game... and maybe finish my background before then, so I can get Acknowledged at the next formal court... :)
Got C-dale OWBN this Friday, and C-dale Sabbat this Saturday. Both of which are very different from their Paducah counterparts. But that's okay. I guess. :)
::..::
In other news, I get to go to jury duty this afternoon... yay, and stuff. So if I disappear for a bit, it might mean that they actually put me on a jury... scary thought, no? :) .

We have End of the Work Week Wisdom! :)
River: "The human body can be drained of blood in 8.6 seconds, given adequate vacuuming systems." Mal: "See, morbid and creepifying, I got no problem with. Long as she does it quiet-like." --from "Firefly"
Morbid and creepifying is my new term for myself. I don't care if people don't think the "scary" part of my nickname fits, I'm still calling myself morbid and creepifying. :) Anyways, I've apparently got the morbid part already on lock, at least if you ask Michael... ;)
In other news, when you decide you need an external harddrive, it's probably pretty rare that you actually NEED a 300 gig external harddrive. But sales and rebates make it awfully appealing. And it tells me I can fit 75,000 songs on it. I have less than 1/10th that number. Sounds like I've got a new goal... ;)
(Okay, there probably aren't actually 75,000 songs that I would WANT to own. But you never know...)
Looking forward to a three day weekend of fun and excitement! :) .

It's been a relatively busy week, with no real signs of slowing down in the near future, so the crafting has been put on the back burner. Well, I got a lot done while watching all of "Firefly," but other than that, no time!
Starr and Jen spent a good chunk of early Sunday morning trying to convince me that I should learn to knit. I tried that once or twice before, and I never figured it out. They also want me to come to their knitting group... in Paducah... during the week. Doubtful, at best, since I'd only get to be there for maybe 4 hours before I'd have to come home. Ah well. Maybe sometime when I have some time off work... cuz it would be fun to sit around and talk to people while we all worked on yarn stuff. The craft nights we talked about doing up here never really panned out... :(
But it's about a month until the Valentine's Day craft fair, so I suppose I should get off my butt and start working on making roses again... I know I need yellow ones, and probably white also... I think I'm okay on the red spectrum, though... :)
And maybe I'll get the hat that goes with my winter coat done before winter ends... :) .

Been working on a lot of character soundtracks lately, and not really finding a whole lot of new music in the process. I came up with my soundtrack for Concordia without too much difficulty, so that was nice. Then I sat down to redo Devyn's soundtrack, and discovered that when you plot out a soundtrack and don't make it for about 3-4 years, you might not be able to get all of the songs you wanted. So I had to do a little bit of reworking, and ended up replacing two songs that I couldn't find, and dropping a third due to length restrictions.
On top of that, I had some fun playing around making a fake CD, that is supposed to be the music of Satan's Handbag, which is Devyn's (now former) band. I had a little difficulty with that because I was trying to go for somewhat obscure, female fronted bands, but they needed to be sorta punk or metal. And angry. :) So I managed to put together something like 13 tracks, and though one of them REALLY doesn't fit the style of music, I had already made the CD cover, and the CD got called "I Want Candy"... so that song had to go on there, and I didn't have a female fronted punk or metal cover of it.
(Yeah, I know... I apparently need more covers... or not... ;) )
But yeah, I'm having fun making CDs, and after making the cover for the Satan's Handbag CD, I think I may have to do some more of that. It was basically a collage made out of old things I grabbed out of magazines and the newspaper. Which means I need to start picking up magazines and clipping interesting stuff to save for use on CD covers... yeah, I am kinda silly like that... :)
I've also been helping J work on a soundtrack for D, which has been interesting. It means I have one N.W.A. song on my computer now, which cracks me up. We've been trying to collaborate on D's song for Dani, and we finally got it picked out... sorta... he came up with two suggestions, and I like one of them, while he likes the other one... we may just use them both.
That's funny, in and of itself, because Dani's song for D is very happy, light-hearted, and poppy. D's song for Dani (either one) will be very bitter and "I hate you." Not because he always hated her, but because he grew to hate her... good stuff... there's so much history between those characters, and it's so fun to get to play them again and try to work through bits of the history, while still seeing what the future holds... :) .

Well, I started playing in ANOTHER LARP this past weekend, which brings my character total up to 6... I've noticed something interesting about them, too...
1) Mel Ashcroft, Toreador, crocheter / tattoo artist 2) Ember, Tzimisce, dominatrix 3) Viridian Walker, Tremere, former IRA 4) Dani Ghivanni, Ravnos, "fairy godmother" 5) Concordia Asher, Nosferatu, singer / architect / physicist 6) Devyn Fleming, Brujah antitribu, lead singer / guitarist / ass kicker... ;)
Okay, well that didn't end up showing the interesting thing...
1) Mel: Crafts: Crochet x3, Crafts: Tattooing x3, Crafts: Piercing x1, Crafts: Drawing x1, Crafts: Photography x1; Expression: Poetry x1 2) Ember: Performance: Exotic Dance x2 3) Viridian: no artistic ability to speak of 4) Dani: Performance: Belly Dancing x2 (I think) 5) Concordia: Performance: Singing x2, Crafts: Architecture x2 (I think) 6) Devyn: Expression: Lyrics x2, Performance: Music x2
So yeah, with the exception of Viridian, all of my characters have some sort of artistic ability... makes sense for Mel, obviously, but it's just kinda amusing that all the rest of them do. And Viridian is the angry one... possibly angrier than Devyn, even... and that's kinda bizarre... :)
And yes, for those who are wondering, I've sorta played Devyn before. Actually, what happened was that I made her for one game, and never played her there. And then I ran that group as a TT game, but Devyn was an NPC. So then I waited three or four years, and realized that hey, I could finally play her! :) So yay for that! :)
But six LARP characters is kinda crazy. There's a reason I made sure they're all different clans... and hopefully they all have at least a little distinction between their personalities... Mel and Dani have similarities, because they're both parts of me... Mel is the bitchy side, and Dani is the silly side. Viridian and Devyn have similarities, because they're both angry. Very angry. Ember is getting to an odd point where I'm not too sure where she's going... and Concordia is very different from all the rest, because she's all meek and quiet and shy... ;)
But hey, I'm having fun, even if this does typically mean I've got 2 games every weekend... but I'm okay with that at the moment... :) .

No movie talk today, because all I watched last week was "The Professional," and honestly it was on more as background noise than to actually watch.
Instead, how about Firefly talk? :)
Seriously. I know a lot of people who have been talking about this show for ages. I didn't get to see any of it until right before Christmas, and I was instantly hooked. So hooked that yesterday, I went out and bought the entire series. And then sat and watched all of the episodes that I hadn't seen yet. Yeah, that hooked. :)
Now, I need to go buy "Serenity." Usually, I only buy movies that I've already seen, and know I like. In this case, I'll buy it without seeing it. Because if the series is that good, the movie has to be at least equally so.
I've already had one request to borrow the series. I think I will probably loan it out, but I might not want to just yet. I might need to spend another entire day watching it before I'm willing to let other people borrow it. It's just so damn good!
In other news, I find it very wrong that I went out shopping yesterday without having to wear a coat or even a jacket. 3/4 length sleeved T-shirt and jeans, and I was fine. It's JANUARY, people! This is not right! .

I realized yesterday, while sitting at home, that I had made a Monday post on Tuesday. So that, combined with not posting yesterday, gives me the strange urge to just post something random today.
Only I don't know what.
Meh, we'll just post a few things...
::..::
Started a new OWBN character on Sunday, in Paducah. I just couldn't bring myself to play Mel down there... I wanted something new to do. So I made a Nos, and that was definitely a change of pace. Go from being Prince of a neighboring Domain to being low woman on the totem pole. I got a couple of roleplaying noms because people suddenly realized that I can roleplay (not that I was sick, thankyouwhoeversaidthat... grrr...)! :) Swear to god, I'm not really as bitchy as Mel usually seems, though I suppose she's a lot closer to Dawn than Concordia (my new Nos) is.
Anyways, need to write her background ASAP, so I can get released from the Accounting... :)
::..::
I changed my mind about my brilliant music day plan for this year. Ah well.
At the moment, I'm trying to weed out my CD collection. So far, not making much progress on that... I've pulled one CD to get rid of. I may have another handful to get rid of when I seriously look at the ones I have here at work... :) But we'll have to see... :) Oh, that reminds me, I need to make a copy of No! for my niece... :)
::..::
My mom got me a HUGE box of yarn for Christmas. This means I have more yarn than I know what to do with (yes, that is possible)... I have a few small projects to work on though... another washcloth to finish, a new hat to match my new scarf, and armwarmers for me, and then a few scarves which I will probably sell... and I need to work on some roses for the Valentine's Day craft fair...
Of course, the majority of those things come from yarn that I already had in my yarn stash, not the new box of yarn... *sigh*...
::..::
And in other news, sinuses are the devil. .

Well, I'm back. :)
I had an immensely odd Christmas, in that I received no movies as gifts this year. My dad gave me a copy of Empire Records, but that was because Sarah and Nathaniel were giving him a big bag of movies they didn't want anymore, and when I saw it, I said I wanted it!
So I bought myself a few movies. :) And watched all of my new stuff. :)
"Empire Records" - The funny thing is that after watching it, I'm pretty sure I had never actually seen this movie! :) But it's decent, I suppose, in that early-mid 90s sort of way... :)
"Clue" - Because when a Tim Curry movie is in the $5.50 bin at Wal-Mart, you buy it. And watch it. With all three endings. :)
"Anchorman" - Yes, I now own a Will Ferrell movie. It will not likely be joined by any of his other movies. But this one is awesome. "I love lamp."
"Constantine" - So much better than I expected it to be, so since it was on sale... :) Anyways, Rachel Weiss is hot. :)
I also got to watch "Gone with the Wind" and "Finding Nemo" while I was at my mom's house, because I was sick for one of the days I was there. And I also got my first exposure to "Firefly," which means that now I want to see the whole series, and then watch "Serenity."
As a side rant, I'd like to comment that $3.50 to rent a movie is ricockulous, and so I'm going to Family Video to see what their prices look like, and because Thor tells me they have all of "Firefly" there. Hopefully they have "Deadwood" too. Because at $3.50 per DVD rental fees, 6 DVDs just became retardedly expensive. :( .
