Well, my return to STing was, in fact triumphant, or at least successful. Good game overall, the players had fun, and I wasn't completely frazzled afterwards. All of these are good things.

Got to bring in two of my NPCs, Cozette Riviera (Toreador dilletante) and Khadijah Ingram (new Tremere regent... and Jedi... yes, you read that right... :) ). Cozette spent most of her time getting people to do nice things for her, because she has money to throw at problems. So she now has a Gangrel bodyguard until July, and promises of being taught Dominate by the entirety of Clan Tremere. :) And the Toreador like her already too. :)

Khadijah, on the other hand, was a bit more sedate, but she did talk at least a few things through with the Prince, and then got to kick some ass in combat. She has four people who have already asked about becoming her Paduwan, now that they all know she's a Jedi. With a lightsaber.

And yeah, I know that sounds kinda cheezy. But, as J put it at wrap-up: "There's a lot of crack in this game. But it's the most well-manicured crack I've ever seen." So yeah, as long as people are having fun with it, I'm good with it. And there is more to Khadijah... can't give everything away on the first night, though... ;)

So yeah, I'm looking forward to finding out some more about plots and stuff, so that I can be a more effective ST, and not just portray my NPCs. :) Though the latter is fun, and I've come up with a great plan for costuming each of them differently without too many difficult costume changes. Basic black shirt and pants, with something to throw on over that for each character.

Now, as long as I can get the pink stains out of Khadijah's robe... this is why we check our pockets three or four times for blood tickets at the end of the night... *sigh*...

Yeah, and last week I just forgot to post on Friday. Ah well. :)

But I have movies to talk about today (hurrah!), so here goes! :)

"Dazed and Confused" - Had it on VHS, but it was a copy, so when I found the DVD (special edition) for $10, I thought that would be a nice one to add to the collection, and I was right. It's a fun movie. :)

"Mirrormask" - J and I finally got to watch this on Friday night, and it was very good. Very weird, but very good. I want to watch it a few more times so I can catch all of the bits that I missed, of which I am sure there are plenty.

"Bewitched" - Borrowed this one from Kent, as he thought it was adorable, even if J, Lord Pleasure, and Jenna were not as enchanted with it. I liked it, and it was adorable. Nicole Kidman is good at sexy, but she's good at cute too, as shown here. :)

"Romeo+Juliet" - Finally reacquired this one, and still love it. Leonardo DiCaprio annoys me, but I think it's more in that "everyone else likes him, so why should I" sort of way. That, and he's blonde. I don't like blondes. :)

Looks like "Ultimate Avengers" may be on the slate for this week, and I'm hoping to borrow and/or watch the new Zorro movie and "Devil's Advocate" in the near future. Ah, the joys of having several friends who collect movies. If we just "rent" from each other, we all get to see more movies, and don't have to pay ricockulous Blockbuster prices! :)

Well, I think that now I have found both the perfect pattern and the perfect yarn for the Jayne hat. Now, it's just a matter of implementing them together. w00t! :)

Working on armwarmers for Jenna, and then a pair for me, both in black. Because I didn't really need another pair of armwarmers (this will be my 5th pair), but I did need a pair in black. And I found Homespun, on sale, in pure black. Which is the best. :)

I really need to dig through my craft closet and see what is lurking in there. But it's a pain in the ass to do so, especially when you're trying desperately to NOT bump your belly button, or the region immediately surrounding it. I went through the yarn my mom gave me for Christmas the other night, so that's a good start. Unfortunately, all I accomplished there was realizing that some of that yarn hurts my eyes... :) But I'm sure I can figure out something to do with it... :) If nothing else, I can make a really godawful afghan, and maybe it will be neat in its godawfulness.

(Yes, that is a word. According to me.)

So glad this week is almost over. A full week of work, combined with other factors, have made it hellish.

Back in November, my friend Shawn played a few songs for me. Some were songs I had heard before, some were not. But all of them were making me laugh hysterically. What were these brilliant pieces of work?

The demos for the songs on Pretty Hate Machine, and a few songs that didn't quite make the final cut for the album.

I'm fairly certain most people are familiar with the tracks on Pretty Hate Machine, so I won't comment much on them. But if you want a general idea on the differences, think more 80s synth pop, and less industrial, and you'll get the picture pretty well. It was 1988, what more do you expect, honestly?

But there was at least one track that didn't quite make it. (I think there were two, but I'm not 100% sure about the 2nd one, so we'll leave that to discuss another day.) Well, I got my hands on a copy of it the other night, and wow... yeah.

The song is called "Purest Feeling." You really should find a copy of it if you can. It'll make the rest of this make more sense.

Don't worry, I'll still be here when you get back... and recover from the laughing fit that will inevitably ensue...

.

.

.

Back with us? Done hyperventilating? Good to hear. :)

So yeah. "Purest Feeling." For those of you who were not able to go find it in the interim, let me just say this. HORN section. Yes, Trent Reznor, singing with a horn section in the background (synth, of course, but that's not really the point).

Even though I know that if I had heard this song at that time, along with the others from Pretty Hate Machine, I probably would not have seriously considered Trent as the goth-industrial god he is today, I can't help but rock out to it. Oh, granted, it's a different sort of rocking out than is dictated by most Nine Inch Nails music. It's much more of a dance-y rocking out.

Which I suppose isn't really rocking out. But anyway, that's not the point.

The point is that Trent often makes me smile. It's usually more of a "damn, he's sexy" sort of smile. This time, he makes me laugh. And somehow, that's a good thing. :)

::..::

In other news, yesterday was an odd day. Today promises to be less odd, I think. Tomorrow will probably be odd again. No, I don't think it's at all coincidental that the numbers of the days are odd... that's not what I meant by odd... :)

Well, only the OWBN game this past weekend, but it was a doozy. Mel spent most of the night trying to deflect Vermin's affections. Then she had the brilliant plan of asking G-Lo to see if he could find Christian as a wraith... and then all hell broke loose in her unlife... because apparently G-Lo thinks he found him... and Christian's wraith might now be coming to find Mel... joy...

Well, I guess it's something to do. Since stepping down as Prince, Mel's unlife has been entirely too tame... ;)

Working on the first set of in-weeks for the Cammie game since becoming an ST, and they're going relatively smoothly. There's a considerable amount that I need Jim's help with, though, so here's hoping he's free either tomorrow or Thursday night... planning to find that out tonight, though, and get some info from him if he doesn't have a free night this week. So we should be mostly good.

Still don't know what happened to my post from Friday... that's driving me nuts...

Good god I watched a lot of movies over the past week. Except that I watched all of them on Saturday and Sunday, so that's not so much during the past week, but rather over the weekend. :)

"The Neverending Story" - Just another one of those movies from my childhood that I had to get again. The best part is that though there are cheezy bits, it's generally held up well to the passage of time. I still like it lots. Though I was wrong. The Childlike Empress is not Thora Birch. Then again, she was probably like 2 years old when that movie came out, so that does make some sense. :)

"The Neverending Story 2" - On the other hand, this movie is crap. But I found this and the above on the same disc for $10, and as I suspect I would have paid at least that much for just the first one, I went ahead and bought the 2-movie disc. This one was like they knew the first one was good, and they tried to do the same stuff. But they failed. And they couldn't even get the same people for Bastian and his dad for the 2nd movie... that sucked...

"The Dukes of Hazzard" - I had been alternately wanting to see this and thinking it was a really bad idea, but J had borrowed it from someone, and out of the movies he had borrowed, it was the one that Jenna and I both wanted to watch, so we did. It was surprisingly good, though it's not the TV show, nor the cartoon. I still don't really like Jessica Simpson, or the ca-caw boy, or Johnny Knoxville. But it was okay anyway. :)

"Red Eye" - Another one that I sorta wanted to see, and sorta didn't. It was worth watching, I'd have to say. Cillian Murphy is always cute. :)

"Neverwhere" - Still waiting on them to make this into a Hollywood movie (and probably ruin it, but that's neither here nor there). In the meantime, I have to content myself with my dubbed VHS copy. C'est la vie! :)

In other movie news, I bought "Mirrormask" on Wednesday night, but I'm waiting to watch that on Tuesday with J, because he wants to see it too. I'm such a nice person. :)

No real additional crafting news, other than the facts that a) I have found the yarns I need to buy to make the best version of Jayne's hat yet; b) I made Bryce a hat with flames on it, and it almost looked like flames; and c) I have my next project lined up: a purple Sherlock Holmes hat for Clint.

And Jesi is gonna pay me to make her a comforter for when she moves in with me. We have to go fabric shopping at some point. And then it'll be some work... though maybe I could machine quilt, if I get a good enough machine... hmmm... this is something to ponder...

At any rate, it's nice to be to the point in the year where I can pretty much just make whatever, and no big rush. Of course, this makes me come up with all sorts of ideas. And I also have not a lot of time to do all of these ideas. But that's the way it usually works... get really busy, and you have far more things that you want to be doing than you have time for.

In other news, I think my LaunchCast just locked up. But that wasn't the original other news...

So in other other news, I think I have a plan for tonight. I think this plan is a good one. We'll see how much of the plan gets done. Muhahahah...

Multi-topic update! Whee! :)

Gaming: Well, Viridian died in the indy Cammie game on Saturday night. This was somewhat intentional, as I knew OOC that the other players were gunning for the Regent, and Viridian was likely to be collateral damage. I was also asked to step up as an ST in that game, which I did. So losing my character was okay... :)

Big change, though, going from 6 characters to 2. One of which I only play every other month. Ah well, that's alright. I have noticed in the past that my creativity and desire to write increases when I'm STing, so I consider this a good thing. :)

Music: Jesi played a band called The Horrorpops for me yesterday. Must check out more. She also played "I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas," and she, Bobert, and I were all singing along. Classic. :)

Crafts: The craft fair yesterday blew chunks. I dunno if we need to work on our selection of craft fairs, our selection of crafts, or what, but it was just sad and pathetic. I'm trying to look into going to some different craft fairs, but I haven't been able to find one of the ones that was recommended to me, and it's still a bit too early for the other ones.

But the Kool-Aid drink pouch bags that Cindy's friend's daughter-in-law made were popular, so I'm definitely looking into making my own to sell. But I need a new sewing maching for that... I haven't decided yet what my February purchase will be, as I was waiting till after the craft fair... still haven't decided... the sewing machine is the likely choice, though...

In other news, it's exceptionally warm here lately, which will last another day, I believe. Then we'll be back to winter, and I will whine some more. :)

No new movies this past week, though I did watch "Velvet Goldmine," half-heartedly watched "Shaun of the Dead" (I was cooking while it was on), and watched "Amelie." The latter proved, yet again, that it is damn near impossible to watch a movie in a foreign language while doing something else. But I looked up in time to see her turn into water and splash on the floor, and I love that scene, so that was kewl. :)

I still haven't gone out to buy new movies. That was actually on the agenda for yesterday, but then it started snowing really hard, and I decided to stay inside and cook lunch and dinner, so that I have so much in the way of leftovers that I really don't need to cook again all week. But I'm cooking dinner for J and I tomorrow night anyway. Cuz I haven't cooked for him in ages, for assorted reasons.

It is nice being able to cook a few things, and especially to cook things that make really good leftovers. I have pizza and shepherd's pie in the fridge, and taco soup and spaghetti sauce (homemade) in the freezer. When you more or less live alone, even regular meals make too much food for one person, and you end up thinking "oh, maybe I'll get to those leftovers," and then you never do. Yet another reason why I'm really looking forward to Jesi moving in, because we can both cook, and make meals that will feed the two of us, with maybe a bit of leftovers. What will be totally and completely the bomb is if J and Lord Pleasure get an apartment in our complex, because then we will have AWESOME dinners for the four of us, at least on occasion. And Lyle can come over sometimes too. :)

Grumpiness of last week = all gone. I've been in a good mood pretty much all weekend, and it even carried into today. Really looking forward to tomorrow, even if I will be sitting at the craft fair all day, mostly alone. Hopefully I'll sell enough stuff to make it worth my while. :)

Hmmm... there was something good said last night, which was going to be End of the Work Week Wisdom, but I forgot to write it down, and have since completely forgotten what it was. This is what happens when you go to Denny's, end up there for 2 1/2 hours, wear a silly hat for the entire time, paint two peoples' fingernails, paint your own as well, and eat French Silk pie.

Or maybe that's just in my world... :)

There was something about a hat being so hat, but I forget that too.

So we will end yet another work week without the requisite wisdom. I know I will suffer for the lack of wisdom to get me through the weekend, and the next week. Oh the angst... oh the humanity... oh my spleen...

Yeah, that's a good one... old, but good...

"Oh the angst... oh the humanity... oh my spleen..."
--Random wisdom from me that has nothing to do with anything

Hurrah for randomness! There's been a lot of that lately. But that's okay, cuz it's been fun and happy randomness. :)

In other news, my car is fine, and my Jayne hat rocks.

Got one crochet project done last night, and another one started. The finished project is kinda a sekrit surprise, so no details here. The other one I started is the Jayne hat, from Firefly. I'm not 100% pleased with the pattern I'm using, so I'll be looking for a new one, but it is turning out decently well. Of course, the original is a knitted hat with earflaps, and mine will be crocheted, but it'll work out okay, I think. Especially if I can find the right kind of pattern. Or I may be able to work up my own, based on the one I'm using presently.

I need to work on making some more Valentines for the craft fair, which I may do tonight, if I have some time. Supposed to be going to an OWBN workshop at Denny's, but my car wouldn't start this morning. I'm hoping it was just the cold affecting the battery, and that it'll start fine after work today. If not, I guess I'll be trying to find a way to get it over to the dealership in the morning, and let them tell me if it's the battery (my best guess) or the starter (god I hope not). At any rate, thank goodness for being under warranty... :)

Speaking of Valentines, yeah, I'm gonna hafta work on something else for that... I just don't have any good ideas at the moment. What do you give someone for Valentine's Day that is a little bit practical, but still handmade? If I can't come up with something fitting both of those criteria, I'm gonna go with practical but store-bought, because there is a limit to how many ultimately useless handmade objects you can give someone. Yeah, I know, the handmade stuff comes from the heart and all that, but seriously. I know there is a limit. :)

Hmmmm... something to ponder for a bit, I suppose...

Yay, new music to talk about! Not a new band, but new music nonetheless...

So I have now heard the new Placebo album (due out March 13th!) three times, and I am digging it, big time. I don't know that I really have anything specific to say about it, other than the fact that some of the songs have a really great energy to them, and others are considerably more mellow, but nice nonetheless. I think I may have to look into a band called The Kills, as VV of The Kills sings on one song, and it is good. Michael Stipe allegedly sings on another song, but I'm having a hard time picking out his voice... then again, that may be due to my crappy internal speaker on my work computer. Will have to listen to it again at home tonight. :)

In other news, I'm not grumpy today. J called me in the middle of the afternoon and asked if I wanted to get dinner with him, so we hung out for about an hour last night, and then I watched "Velvet Goldmine" and chilled out for the remainder of the evening.

In other other news, it's snowing big time, which might normally allow for the possibility of sledding. However, as you can't go sledding at night, the snow will probably not last past tomorrow, and this weekend is booked anyway, there will likely be no sledding. Poo. J's sled really wants to go sledding... or maybe I do... ;)

Well, only OWBN this past weekend, and it was formal Elysium. Mel ended up dropping $300,000 on two items, but as that was money that the Giovanni had given her, it wasn't too bad. She also handed off some money to Moonbeam, I think another $100,000, because Moonbeam was bidding heavily on the Oreos. Which she won. :)

Year old Oreos. $10,000. That's what you get when the Toreador auctioneer says he MIGHT throw in a kiss... :)

Unfortunately, rushing before game and miscommunication caused some difficulties, but don't they always? The good news is that it got mostly sorted out, and now I just need to make sure that the STs get a write-up on the whole Elysium security thing and S.U.K.E. Never thought I'd appreciate something that Mel's damn childe did for her, but I do... :)

In other gaming news, I've been vaguely pondering running a girls only D&D game, running it at the same time J runs his boys only D&D game. Granted, this started out as kind of a joke, but if there's enough interest, I might do it... would be a bit of work, though, as I don't really know 3rd ed all that well... so we'll have to see about that.

I'm not surprised that I'm really liking this whole only two local LARPs thing, with a third that runs every other month. I think I mentioned before that I had gotten up to six LARPs briefly. That was insanity. I'll probably want more in a bit, but for now, 2 (1/2) is good. :)

And in other other news, I should be in a better mood than I am in at the moment. Life is good, the sun is shining, and I finally got the Lincoln book completed to the point where I could send it to the other editor. I'm just grumpy for no apparent reason. I'm sure I'll get over it. :)

Hmmm... I don't think I watched any new movies this past week, though I did halfway watch "Sin City" yesterday, while attempting valiantly not to fall asleep. Amazing how WATCHING a football game for a few hours can wear you out. Well, I was moving the makeshift down marker thingie, by myself, but honestly, that's not much work. :)

I've now been all the way through the Firefly DVDs twice, and I can honestly say that I'm not tired of them yet. :) Probably won't get tired of them, either. They're just so spiffy, and I notice new things every time I see them. :)

Might have to go buy some DVDs this week. It's been a bit since I've bought any new ones. I should probably also see about selling some of the ones that I honestly don't know why I've kept this long. Seriously. I've bought some BAD DVDs, and my DVD shelves are getting full to the bursting point... so it's time to do a little cleaning... :)

Speaking of cleaning, oi. I need to do a lot of that around the apartment. So that's on the agenda for one night this week. Just not tonight. I have dance class, and I know it's going to kick my ass... :(

Hmmm... no good ideas for End of the Work Week Wisdom, so I guess that means there isn't any. Because the one thing I can think of involves a pet gazelle and frat boys, and, well, it was funny as hell at the time, but I don't think it's quite appropriate for public consumption... :)

Very much looking forward to this weekend, though. OWBN formal Elysium tonight. Probably watching some Firefly tomorrow, and then going to the salsa dancing thingie tomorrow night, for Becky's b-day. Sunday will be football-y goodness. :)

And, of course, HAPPY BIRTHDAY, BECKY!!!!! Welcome to the exclusive club of which I will be a part for only another month and a half or so... ;)

Well, Cindy and I decided that we could handle marbleizing paper, and so we set out to do so last night. It was not as easy as either of us remembered, and resulted in a whole lot of slimy, runny, paper. Yes, it was about as disgusting as that sounds.

So instead, we decided that we could stamp and paint and glue pieces of construction paper together to make Valentine's Day cards. We probably made about 30 of them last night, and I've got a ton more stuff to make a ton more. So I'll be working on that, interspersed with making roses.

I probably have enough roses, but I've got so much yarn, and so many different colors, that I'm trying to make some more. I'm also gonna take them to game tomorrow night and see if I can't sell some of them there... with my ever lovely subliminal spokesmodels, I should do okay... :)

Haven't really done much with the altered dress that I wanted to alter some more, but I think it'll work as is. Or I might get a chance to do something more to it tonight. Or not... because I already have plenty of stuff to do tonight. I think maybe the haircut will wait till Saturday... yeah, that will make life easier...

New music! :)

We'll start with Aleccia's contribution to my collection, Drain STH. Good. Stuff. Along a similar vein as Lacuna Coil, The Gathering, or Chiasm, it's just female vocals, slightly on the metal end of things, but mostly just good goth-y music. I'm kinda surprised I wasn't already listening to them, but hey, I am now, and that's what counts. :)

And then we have J's latest contribution, in a long line of successful suggestions. Matisyahu. Wow. He's a Jewish reggae artist... and while the Jewish part wouldn't normally be relevant, it's very relevant in this case. A lot of his music is sort of religiously inspired / motivated, but it's really good. This is odd for me, because I don't like Christian bands. But I like Matisyahu.

In fact, I like him so much that I'm taking J to see him in March! :) I'm beginning to think that we may have to make it a tradition that no matter what, we try to get together during Spring Break and go see a show. Interpol last year was awesome, and I think Matisyahu will be similarly kewl. We've already at least vaguely discussed heading up a bit early to get dinner and maybe hit the zoo again, so this could be turning into a nice little tradition between friends. :)

So yeah, that's the concert I was hinting at on Monday. I wanted to run it by J before I said anything for sure, so I could make sure it wouldn't be a problem for him to get part of the day off work. But he's down, so yeah, that will be awesome. :)

In other news, work is simmering back to a normal level, though I'm still playing catch-up today... c'est la vie... :)

(Hey, that's French... ;) )
