Random ramblings cuz I have nothing better to do... or something... :)
This is the site formerly known as Anneke's Haven. Within, you will find information about my previous White Wolf chronicles, and other random gaming related stuff. I also have a blog here, where I talk about pretty much everything and anything, though it's primarily about my exciting life... the definition of exciting definitely being up for debate.
Enjoy your visit, and come back soon!
Well, I only got through "Ocean's Eleven" last night, because I started it far later than originally intended. Too busy talking to people online and working on character soundtracks... but that's okay. :)
Granted, I only half-watched it, cuz I just kinda wanted to be able to say that I had seen it... I really don't like the bulk of the people who were in it, so yeah, it was kinda "meh" for me...
But there was one great quote, and thus, we have End of the Work Week Wisdom this week.
Danny: "Does he make you laugh?" Tess: "He doesn't make me cry." --from "Ocean's Eleven"
Yeah. Good line. :)
As for the character soundtracks, the one for my as-yet-unnamed Deadlands character is about 90% done. I was very tired by the time I "finished" it last night, so I decided to take another look at it when I get home from work today, and then we can call it done. The soundtrack for my hunter character, who I've decided to name Jericho (yes, she's a girl... I think that name works for a girl...), turned out quite nicely, though there is this spot in the middle that I don't really enjoy... but it fits the character... I even bashed out a short background for her, which wasn't too hard, seeing as she's based on River from Firefly... hehehehe... :) .

So I borrowed "The Doors" from Megan on my birthday, and since I had some time to kill last night, I decided to watch it. Unfortunately, I was not impressed. And the bulk of my not being impressed? Val Kilmer.
I used to really like Val Kilmer. I'm not entirely sure what I saw him in that made me think he was hot, but I thought that for a while. Of course, I didn't watch a whole lot of his movies, because he seems to have had a rather slow start to his career, and done a lot more recently.
But here's the problem I've discovered. I don't think he can act. I mean, yeah, I'm sure he was acting like he was drunk and/or stoned as Jim Morrison, but generally speaking, he's not all that entertaining to watch. Then I kinda thought about the other movies I've seen him in. "Real Genius" is funny, but he's basically just a surfer. "Top Gun" is a pretty good movie, but, again, not much there. "Batman Forever"? Well, at least he's not George Clooney.(*) And we couldn't even watch "The Saint," because it was bad...
So yeah. Not impressed. Ah well, at least it wasn't so bad that I wanted those two hours of my life back... but then again, I was crocheting and chatting while I watched it, so I accomplished things with my time too.
(*) Yes, I understand the irony of saying that I don't like George Clooney, and planning to watch "Ocean's Eleven" and "Ocean's Twelve" tonight. Funny thing is that I don't like MOST of the people in either of those movies! But Eddie Izzard is in the latter, and I've heard they're good movies... so I'll watch 'em, again while doing other stuff, and it won't be too bad... :) .

And, the Chicago trip is off. Ah well. It would have been super kewl to get to go, but as neither Dubs nor I was willing to drive in Chicago, and Starr can't go now, we were left with no other option. This just means I get to stay here and game... so I won't complain too much. :)
Today, I'm kinda surprised that I'm as awake as I am. Ended up going to The Cellar last night, and staying about an hour and a half longer than I originally planned. There is a time warp there, I'm thinking. Either that, or that second game of pool I played really did take forever... that's what happens when you put two people who mostly suck at pool against each other. I did get some pretty sweet shots now and again, but I also had some REALLY bad shots. Then again, the last time I remember playing pool for sure was when I beat Dominic... that would have been the summer of 1995... wow... (and yes, while it is weird for me to remember this somewhat distinctly, it is remembered more for my dear brother's comment of "you got beat by a dumb girl," than for anything else.)
I have a STACK of borrowed movies right now, which I think I shall attempt to get around to tomorrow night. Well, that'll take care of maybe two of them, if I start watching them early enough. Three borrowed movies, and the one last one that I bought myself as a birthday present... so two tomorrow, and the other two, who knows when... :)
And I'm starting to play two new TT games this weekend... Deadlands and what more or less boils down to a WoD: Mortals game (old edition, not nWoD). Both seem promising. I have my character concepts for both, but that's about it. Ah well, this weekend will be all about the character creation and number crunching... :) .

Alright, I'm back at work, and my work weeks for the foreseeable future look relatively normal. Weekends in April are another matter entirely, of course, though I'm a little confused about what is going on this weekend... I'm hoping to hear an answer to that question really soon, though, because if I'm NOT going to Chicago, well, then, I'm making other plans. :)
My birthday weekend was chock full of happy goodness. Friday, I went to Brat Pack with Jesi and Kent, though Jesi and I left after the first set, because we were both exceptionally annoyed with the drunk bar patrons in front of us. And see, that's why I don't go to the bars. Because a) I don't really like people, and b) the people that go to the bars annoy me especially. There are some exceptions to this... like I've generally enjoyed the few times I've been to Traz / Upside Downtown. But that's an entirely different crowd... for specific reasons... :) (And obviously, I do like some people. I call them my friends. :) )
Saturday, Megan took me to lunch, and then she, Cindy, and I drove down to one of the wineries, and had fun sampling bunches of different wines. Then back to C-dale for some shopping at Goodwill, and then running around to get ready for game. Game was fun, though I did discover that my new dress that I love very much gets a wee bit uncomfortable after a bit... partially due to having to keep my posture really good to keep the straps on my shoulders, and partially because it's kinda odd for me to wear a dress that kinda makes it so that I'm falling out of it... yay cleavage, right? :)
Anyways, party after game was a good time, though I didn't drink a whole lot. I kinda got to a certain point, and went "ya know, I should stop now." Always a good thing to be able to acknowledge.
Sunday was a pretty lazy day, though I did get to spend the bulk of it in very good company. :) Watched "Legend" as well, which is always enjoyable.
Monday, I did nothing. Or at least it felt like it. I did get my laundry done, and tidied up around the living room a bit, but I mostly spent the entire day chatting with assorted people. Got dinner with Jesi and Lyle, missed dance class, and then watched wrestling. Whee! :)
And so that's about it. Oh, I suppose the pressie list is always fun. :) The first LXG graphic novel, an Inigo Montoya T-shirt, a Serenity T-shirt, margarita glasses and a cute little plastic bar set type thingie, a neat candle in a purple box, an Egyptian business card holder, a piece of flat amethyst, and a gift card for Hot Topic. Still waiting on my card from Mom, which I suspect may include a gift card of some sort as well. :) .

Know what? Screw a bunch of theme days. Between days off, forgetting to post, and occasionally just having nothing to say on a given topic, I'm just gonna post whatever, regardless of day.
I may, however, maintain the End of the Work Week Wisdom, because I do like that. :)
So yeah, Bobert and I went to see "The Libertine" last night, because I had read the IMDB blurb on it last week... and as we're both big Johnny Depp fans, it seemed like the thing to do.
I really liked it a lot, as did he. It's about the Earl of Rochester, who was, in a lot of ways, sort of a British version of the Marquis de Sade. Obviously not identical, but you get the basic idea. But whereas "Quills" was a moderately good movie (IMHO) about the Marquis, this was a WONDERFUL movie about the Earl of Rochester, complete with 17th century British politics, plays, and syphillis. Whee! :)
It probably helped matters considerably that one of the characters, an actress, was rehearsing to play Ophelia in the movie. And I love Ophelia. :)
And Johnny Depp has the most amazing cheekbones known to humankind. Seriously. Amazing. :)
So yeah, that was definitely a nice little surprise, in a year when I pretty much think that I don't want to see a whole lot of movies... not because I don't like movies (you know I do), but because there aren't many good ones coming out this year! I believe there are three or four more this year that I'm really looking forward to, and one that I will probably see because the premise is just that ridiculous. :) .

Blogger was behaving oddly yesterday, and seems to still be acting up today. We'll see if this will actually post...
So, "V for Vendetta." Now Thor was kind enough to loan me the comic on Monday of last week, so that I could read it before we saw the movie on Friday. When I met him and my other friends at the theatre on Friday, I told him that I wasn't sure I was entirely happy that I had read it beforehand, because that meant I knew what was going on with some of the stuff in the preview already, and so it was kinda like a spoiler.
Then we watched the movie.
I can understand why Alan Moore refused to have his name associated with it. In my opinion, it would have much better been described as "very loosely based on the events of the comic book 'V for Vendetta'". Because the truth of the matter is that the plot was changed soooo much that there were a good many parts where I was going "did I miss something in the comic?"
It wasn't a bad movie, overall. It was just not anything like what I was anticipating. There were substantial enough changes to the characters that I was very weirded out, there were key characters that were simply dropped from the movie... all in all, just weird, comparatively speaking.
Of course, this makes me curious to go back and pick up "From Hell" and "LXG" in comic format, and see just how much those differed. Because I've heard that Alan Moore wasn't pleased with those interpretations either... and now, I think I can understand why that is likely to be.
::..::
So other than that, the only movie news I have to report is that I have "Legend" and "The Last Unicorn" winging their way to me, which makes me a very happy monkey. :)
And Bobert and I discovered that there is a movie coming out, I believe this fall, called "Marie-Antoinette." I am excited. :)
And Shawn is obsessed with "Snakes on a Plane." He's already making plans to see it... in AUGUST... though it is at a theatre that serves beer, so apparently that's part of the appeal... :)
::..::
Oh, music news too! :) I'm going to go see The Birthday Massacre in Chicago on April 1st! w00t! And Deadstar Assembly is one of the two opening bands, so I will get to see two bands I like for the low low price of $10, plus some gas money. This rocks. :) .

I'm back. Didja miss me? :)
So let's cover the high points of the past week: - Got to go to St. Louis to hear Shawn DJ. Much kewlness ensued. - My nephew, Peter Benjamin, was born on Thursday. He's adorable. - Got to hang out with my friends and watch "V for Vendetta." We'll save the details on the movie for tomorrow. :) - Got to go to dinner with the girlies. - Successfully made Jello shots, and people enjoyed them thoroughly... to the tune of all 58 of them disappearing within about 10 minutes of them landing on the table. - Managed to get pretty much only as drunk as I needed to be, not too drunk, and not hungover, two nights in a row. :)
Yes, there were some low points, too, but a) who wants to hear about low points?, and b) the high points were really good!
So things seem to be simmering back to normal now; I work 4 days this week and 4 days next week. So the posting schedule should return to normal after tomorrow, since I'm gonna save my movie recaps for then. I don't have games to talk about tomorrow anyways, because there weren't any that I played in over the weekend.
::..::
In other news, I spent part of the past week thinking about what I'm doing with my life, and I came to the conclusion that I really really really need to write. If not write new stuff, I'm at least going to work on some of my old stuff. I want to get published on my own, dammit. So I'm gonna. :) .

Well, as it turns out, due to a slight change of plans, today is the only day I'm at work this week. Happy Spring Break to me! :)
Instead of going to Matisyahu on Thursday, I sold the tickets to Megan, who is taking Robert to go see that show. I'm going to St. Louis tonight, to watch one of my friends DJ at a goth-ish night. In the grand scheme of things, I think I'll enjoy that considerably more. :)
It's nice to be taking a bit of a break from work. We've had a few big projects that I've had to do in the past few months, and the spring semester is one during which we get very little time off. So my now five day weekend will be great, and I have a four day weekend next weekend, for my birthday. w00t! :)
So quick recap on everything... watched "The Mask of Zorro" over the weekend, and it was not too bad. A little odd with the pacing, I think, or it may have been that I was crocheting and working on other things while it was on.
Game on Saturday was good, and we proved just how hardcore we are by playing in what turned out to be tornado weather. None of them hit us, but there were a couple of times that everyone had to scramble for the covering of the pavilion.
No particular new music of note, other than a few bands that I've found on myspace. Leaves' Eyes is one of them... kinda a mix between Lacuna Coil and Within Temptation... which is a good mix to be... :)
Looking very much forward to finishing my Jayne hat and making one more. Then, I think I'm done with that one for a bit. Gonna focus on sewing for a while, as Doc moved out last week, will finish getting Dave's stuff this week, and Jesi doesn't move in until May. So I'm gonna use the spare room to put out some sewing stuff, in an attempt to get it done. Megan said I can borrow her sewing machine, which does zig zag stitch, so Koolaid purses will begin production shortly. I have many good ideas, even if I don't have any purple Koolaid pouches. I can work with the other colors. :) Anyways, if I made an all purple one, I'd just want to keep it for myself... :)
And no EotWWW this week... because it's not really much of a work week... :) .

Found this earlier this week, and saved it for the End of the Work Week Wisdom.
"If one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life which he has imagined, he will meet with success unexpected in common hours." --Henry David Thoreau
Yeah, I like it. :)
In other news, at least it stopped raining, which means that the insane number of gigantic puddles in C-dale can start drying up. Seriously, it rained for over 24 hours straight. It had finally stopped when I took Jim home last night, after our ST meeting, around 10 p.m. Not sure how long before that it had stopped, because it was pouring during one of his cigarette breaks...
And in other other news, I'm really looking forward to next week. I'll only be at work on Tuesday and Wednesday. On Monday, the university is closed for Spring Break, and I took Thursday and Friday off for our trip to St. Louis to see Matisyahu. w00t! :) .

You know, I thought about posting yesterday, and then forgot completely.
But I don't have much to say in the way of crafts at the moment, so we'll do music today, as I do have a bit of commentary there. :)
J showed me some neat stuff on Pandora last night, so now I have three separate Pandora stations. Easy to do, and gives me more options than just trying to cram everything onto one station, and then getting frustrated when I'm not finding more of the bands that I want to find... :)
One of my stations is an emo/punk station, and while this makes me die a little inside, I'm really liking it. Only one real find for this morning, and that's a band called Ultimate Fakebook. So far, I like it.
J's station last night decided to play a cover of "Eleanor Rigby" by Godhead. Must. Have.
I am also developing the talent of determining whether a band is screamo. It's not foolproof, yet, but I know right when the screaming SHOULD kick in if they are... yay for more useless music related talents! :)
And my other band of mention today is The 69 Eyes. I've actually had a song that I'm pretty sure is them for quite some time; I just had it labelled as Type O. The lead singer has that Peter Steele SUPER deep and gravelly voice thing down perfect.
Speaking of Type O, they've got a concert DVD coming out in less than a week. I think I'll pick that up. :)
And Placebo's new CD comes out next week! :) .

So only OWBN this past weekend, and it was disappointing as all hell. I accomplished about nothing. I'm pretty sure I'm taking a break from that game for a while. Maybe for good. That still remains to be seen. But there's just not much holding me there anymore. Most of my really good friends have quit playing, and though I am friends with some of the people who still play, that's not even enough to keep me there. The game itself is pretty much uneventful, unless you're a big time fighter, and, well, if I just wanted to do combat, we'd do more Battle Royales.
So yeah. Disappointing, but ah well.
Had a good time last night talking to Ventura about old TT games, and, of course, I really miss running Vampire now. True, I've got a LARP to help run, but there's something special about TT. :(
Plenty of work to do for the Cammie LARP, but I need Jim's help to finish it, so hopefully I'll hear from him soonishly about his work schedule. Probably won't know anything till I get off work today, but that's okay. My schedule this week is pretty well open... got plans tomorrow night, but if we have to have our ST meeting then, it will actually work, because my plans are of a somewhat tag-along nature, though not, at the same time. It's complicated. :) .

Gah. Last week was craziness. Wednesday and Friday, I was all kinds of busy at work. Thursday, I was home with a migrane. Fun stuff, let me assure you.
Any rate, not much in the way of movies to mention, but a TV show again. Jesi bought Wonderfalls a few weeks ago, while we were at Wal-Mart, and told me I would have to watch it sometime. She called me a day or so later to tell me that Kaylee, from Firefly, was in like four of the episodes. So I was definitely interested! :)
We watched five episodes on Saturday, and finished the series on Sunday. Because I didn't wanna stop watching it, once we got started. :) Yet again, it's one of those shows that I would have loved if I had actually seen it on TV, and I would have cried lots if I had been watching it when they took it off the air.
It's also one of those shows that I can completely understand why it got cancelled. It's funny, but in a fairly high brow way. It's a very complex show. It isn't the sort of show that most Americans would "get," nor enjoy (mainly cuz they wouldn't get it). But I love it, and Jesi loves it, and I think most of the people I'm friends with would love it as well. :)
Oh, I suppose I did sorta see a movie over the weekend too... they did Rocky Horror at the Student Center on Saturday night, and Jesi, Lyle, and I decided to go. I wanted to dress up as Columbia, but I only had the gold top hat. Megan was out of town, so I couldn't ask her about borrowing her costume (if she even still has it). And when I decided I could try to do the costume all in black, I realized that the lowest part of the string on my solid black corset would have been right where the top of my belly button piercing sits... so that was a disaster waiting to happen. So I just gothed out instead, and we went.
Well, as it turns out, they were planning to cast the live show right beforehand. And as we're sitting there checking out costumes, we see a group that pretty much covers the entire cast... except that they don't have a Columbia. So I ended up volunteering for that, despite my lack of costume. And it went remarkably well! I even managed all of her dancing... the tap dance and the floor show... though I do have to say her part in the floor show is far easier than I remember Janet's being.
Any rate, I've decided that now that I've played all three female roles (Janet in Kirksville, and Magenta a few years ago in C-dale), I'm gonna try to play Columbia in the future. Her part is pretty easy, and it's a lot of fun. And if Megan still has the costume, I'm all set... :) .
