Random ramblings cuz I have nothing better to do... or something... :)
This is the site formerly known as Anneke's Haven. Within, you will find information about my previous White Wolf chronicles, and other random gaming related stuff. I also have a blog here, where I talk about pretty much everything and anything, though it's primarily about my exciting life... the definition of exciting definitely being up for debate.
Enjoy your visit, and come back soon!

Good quote. :)

The weather is still odd. It's not quite what I consider Friday afternoon yet. I'm not entirely sure what's going on tonight.
Other than all of that, life is good. :)
If you're looking for an interesting movie to watch, check out "For Catherine." It's a good little indie film. I may try to pick up a copy for myself at some point, because I really liked it quite a bit. :)
And that's about all I have to say for today. I'm still sitting on those rants / topics from yesterday... :) .

This is just a post to say that I'm not really going to post today. There are a number of things that I could post about, I suppose, but I can't choose any of them, and, really, it's a bit late in the day to get started on any of them. So we will do the quick sum-up version of a few.
1) Southern Illinois radio sucks. Badly. 2) Turning my attention to other things, things which can be mine (yes, cryptic-ish, but not really). 3) Squee factor of other things.
Yeah, I think that pretty much covers it. 2 and 3 could be combined, I suppose, as they're related... and there are lesser points in number 1 as well... perhaps I'll write these things out at a later date... so call this a marker post to remind me to write other stuff later... :) .

Not much to mention today. It's just another day of work and such. Wednesdays are too much in the middle of the week, and too far from Friday afternoons, to make me happy with them. So Wednesday will be full of disgruntlement. At least for now.
Sun has come out finally, which means that hopefully this odd little cold snap will be a thing of the past. Seriously, it was colder when I left work at 4:00 p.m. yesterday than it had been when I got here at 7:45 a.m. Last night, I wore my jacket, and kept it out to wear this morning. April, people. Nearly May. It should not be in the 30s at night!!!!! I should be bitching about how soon my AC is going to have to come on, not pulling an extra blanket out of the closet!
Anyways, yeah. Lots of stuff to do, not nearly enough time to do it. Luckily, nothing with deadlines at the moment, so I'm not stressed about it... though I really should work on Jesi's stuff before she moves in... at least I mostly have her room cleared of my stuff... :) .

So yeah, I just flat out forgot to post yesterday. I remembered at about 3 minutes till 4. Which was far too late to get started. :)
I finally watched "Oceans 12," a litle bit more seriously than I had watched "Oceans 11." I think I liked it better, yet, at the same time, thought it was really dumb. I like Eddie Izzard in it. :) At one point, I caught myself thinking "I wonder what actress they had Tess pretend to be in the original?" And then I remembered that there wasn't originally a sequel to "Oceans 11." This one was all made up. Which made things like the lasers, the breakdancing, and the hologram all make a whole lot more sense. :)
I also bought some movies on Sunday: replacement copies of "Fight Club" and "Master & Commander" finally, and then "Dead Again," which is a fairly obscure movie with Kenneth Branagh (sp?) and Emma Thompson. I love those two in movies together... someday, I'll probably have to buy "Much Ado about Nothing" as well. :) Watched "Fight Club," which ended up meaning that I watched two Brad Pitt movies in the same day, which was weird. Especially since I don't really like him all that much. :)
Yard sale on Saturday went pretty well, though I didn't sell my Docs, as I was hoping. I've got both pairs listed on eBay right now, and then I found a pair of black size 4s (UK sizing) going for VERY cheap, so I've bid on them. We'll see if I actually get them. My tiny feet may win out in this one! :) I really want something flashier than black, but there is no denying the practicality of owning a pair of black Docs that fit. Maybe I can find the holographic ones in my size someday... :)
(I should note, for those concerned about my shoes, that I got rid of four pairs of sandals already, and if I can sell these two pairs of Docs, I will be condensing my boot collection by one pair (assuming I win the new ones). And I threw out a pair of sneakers, and a few pairs of slippers. So I'm doing good!)
(I should also note that Cindy gave me one shirt on Saturday, and I sold the bulk of the clothes I took to the yard sale, and I didn't buy ANYTHING at the yard sale this year! Go me! :) )
I have a game in the works. A lot of the details aren't even close to being in place yet, but I have a game in the works. And it's not Vampire, or even White Wolf. So :p .

End of the Work Week Wisdom:
"Nothing can stop me now, cuz I just don't care anymore." --"Piggy" by Nine Inch Nails
I dunno, it's stuck in my head, and it sounded good. :) And I know what it's in reference to. And if you're concerned, you should ask me, and I'll tell you if I want to. :p
So glad it's Friday. So very very glad. :) .

Not much to report, in all honesty. It seems like I'm busy everywhere I go... busy at home, busy at work... busy all around...
The busy at home is in preparation for the yard sale on Saturday, as well as some preliminary getting ready for Jesi to move in... cuz I'm going to have to get all of my crap out of her bedroom soonishly... :) Shouldn't be too difficult, mostly it'll just be a matter of figuring out how to fit everything back into the living room closet again... it all fit in there to begin with, and I've whittled down some of it, so getting it back in SHOULD be easy. :)
The busy at work is because I've had a large-ish project land on my desk every afternoon this week. The one today has been small, in comparison, but seriously... regular work + extra large-ish projects = very busy Dawn! I think this is all just coincidental, but it will be nice when it slows down, and goes back to just regular work with occasional small projects tossed on top.
Only 2 and a half more weeks of classes, then finals, which doesn't really affect me, but, at the same time, it does. It affects pretty much everyone in a college town. In this case, it's because a good chunk of the college kids are busy and/or stressed... and it spills out onto the town, and makes everything kinda crazy. Ah well, come May 13th or so, there will be many less people in town, and I will be happy. Carbondale is so much nicer without the bulk of the students. :)
The weather out today is odd... gray and cool... I suspect it's a precursor for rain tomorrow, or maybe late tonight... I don't care, just as long as there's no rain on Saturday! I will not be a happy camper if I wake up early for the yard sale on Saturday, only to see that it's rescheduled for Sunday. :( .

Wow... between this weekend and last night, I have a whole bunch of new music to mention. Woo hoo! :)
First mention goes to "The Unquiet Grave III." I have had 1, 2, and 4 (though they're not all exactly called that) for a good long while, but somehow, 3 had eluded me. I had seen it online, I had just never broken down and ordered it. Well, Megan and I got to do some shopping in KC, and the magnetic pull of Hot Topic drew me in, as per the usual. Mostly, they just had the same old stuff as our HT, but they had this CD set, and I was ecstatic. (They also had a kid who I swore must have been 12 working there, and he offered to teach me how to tie a tie. But the tie I wanted, while very kewl and skullerific, was way too long for me. Ah well.)
And then we have Cursive, The Editors, and The Postal Service. The latter two are most definitely in that whole redo of the 80s thing that is so big right now, and has been for a bit. Both have similarities to Interpol. I am hooked, particularly on The Postal Service, though I suspect The Editors are going to grow on me quickly. Cursive is a bit different, and I haven't had a chance to listen to them thoroughly yet, but it seems pretty damn good thus far. I've been warned that it's mostly their newest CD that is good, and that their older stuff isn't so great, so I'll pass that warning along.
Mostly, though, right now, I'm really looking forward to the TMBG show (2 1/2 more weeks!)... and listening to a whole lot of TMBG... something about Megan not letting me switch that CD out for anything else pretty much the whole time we were in my car over the weekend. :) .

So, for those people who read this who heard about part of the library collapsing yesterday, fear not. I wasn't at work yesterday, and even if I had been, that was the old building, not the one I'm in. Interestingly, however, had I still been in the old building and that wall had fallen off, it would have landed right on top of my old office. So that's fun. :)
The weekend was lovely, though quite crazy. I spent entirely too much time in cars. My nephew is the cutest, and his eyes are still blue. Blue eyed babies in our family are exceptionally rare, so here's hoping they stay that way. He also has very light colored hair at the moment. That probably won't stay, as I was blonde as a baby too. :) But he does have more red-headed genes than I do, so maybe strawberry blonde is his color. :)
Only four days of work for me this week, and then a yard sale on Saturday. I spent over an hour sorting and pricing stuff yesterday; I'm expecting to spend a couple more hours doing this tomorrow and Thursday. E-Con is also this weekend, but there really isn't a whole lot going on with that. A couple of LARPs, and a couple of friends coming down... but generally not the weekend of gamer geekery that it has been in past years.
Don't think for a moment that I'm growing out of the gaming phase. 1) It's not a phase, and 2) I have entirely too many books to grow out of it. :) .

Well, today is the end of my work week, but I don't have any special wisdom to impart today. Other than the fact that some days, going to work in an old T-shirt, jeans, and sandals is great fun. :) This outfit does actually serve a practical purpose, I assure you... I needed to move stuff to the back files, and that's much easier to do in comfy clothes than dress clothes. That, and no one here really cares too much what I wear... and the T-shirt is one of two work-related T-shirts that I own. :)
Got all of my birthday present shopping done yesterday, including a pressie for Ben (Nathaniel's little brother / our "adopted" little brother), whose birthday I did not originally realize was next week. So that's four birthdays in what I consider my immediate family, all within a week of each other. I hereby veto any additional spring birthdays in my family. The end. :)
Mostly, though, with that, packing, and the dishes, I pretty much didn't do anything else productive last night. I played the Sims for something like 4 hours... at least... :) It was a nice break.
Still don't know when I'll be back to C-dale, but I would suspect I won't post again till Tuesday. So everyone enjoy their weekend, Easter if you celebrate it, and I'll type more when I've returned... I'd expect lots of gushing about how cute the bebe is... :) .

Slowly but surely, I'm filling up my CD binders...
Megan made me the kewlest CD binder EVAR for Christmas, so that's the one I'm keeping at work. It's also huge. It holds probably 40 CDs... I haven't counted yet. :) This means lots of good listening at work, but there it's a matter of finding the ones that are appropriate for play at work... which means not too much screaming about death and obscenities... because generally speaking, I keep my music quiet enough that it won't bug my co-workers, but they do occasionally have to come into my office... after all, I am the keeper of the M&Ms and Starburst (along with the office supplies)... :)
The CD binder I'm putting in my car is mostly old character soundtracks, though I have a couple of CDs in there that I made as driving CDs (fast and upbeat, which is mostly for the purpose of long drives when I'm tired) and a stack of Asleep by Dawn CDs, which is a goth-y magazine / catalog that I used to get... haven't seen it in a while, tho... :( The newest additions to this one are a bunch of punk-ish bands doing 80s covers (from Punk Goes 80s and the Sky High Soundtrack), a sampler of TMBG stuff (mainly burned for Megan and I driving to St. Louis tomorrow, and also for the trip to St. Louis in May to see TMBG), and "Crazy Screaming Goth Girlies from Hell," which is just another driving CD, with lots of songs to sing along to... :) Cuz singing in the car rocks. :)
I want to make more theme CDs, but I haven't been given any good ideas lately... mostly, I don't come up with the ideas on my own... somebody tells me what they want to hear a theme CD of, and I make it... hence "Necrophilia for Fun and Profit" and the 2-disc heroes and villains set. :)
I dunno, when you have over 7,000 songs on your computer, sometimes you just have to go with a theme... :) .

Spring is great, because it means you can finally stop having to wear jeans and coats all of the damn time. The downside of spring, of course, is figuring out whether you need to turn on the heat, open the windows, or go all the way to cranking the AC. Any given day in Carbondale in the spring, it could be one of those three.
This spring, I think in particular, has been a whole lot of ups and downs, temperature wise. Friday, it was in the 80s. By Saturday night, it was supposed to freeze. Sunday was nice again, to the point that my car was hot inside after sitting in the sun for a few hours... but I had to turn the heat on on Sunday night. Wha?!
Temperatures for the rest of this week, and this weekend, look pretty nice, though. Here's hoping that the KC temps will be comparable, because I'm probably gonna end up packing for the C-dale temps... I'll throw in an extra hoodie, just in case... :)
There doesn't seem to be much of a plan for this weekend, though. Megan and I both have Friday off work, so we're leaving for St. Louis on Thursday night. We may try to see our dad on Thursday. I have no clue what I'm gonna do all day Friday. We don't leave for KC till Friday night. I have no clue what we're doing in KC on Saturday. Sunday is Easter, so that's pretty well figured out. And then we'll either get back to St. Louis early enough to return to C-dale on Sunday, or we'll stay up in St. Louis Sunday night. Again with the not so sure on what's going on.
But we get to see the bebe (as Megan puts it), and that will be kewl. I will take many many pictures. :) There does seem to be a difference between your brother having a kid and your sister having a kid, which is a little odd, but somewhat understandable. At least it makes sense to me. :)
In the meantime, I still have a crapton of stuff to get done, but that's what tomorrow night will be for. :) .

Well, good weekend all around, even with three games over the course of two days. About all I could have asked for was more time to sleep, but I managed to get enough sleep last night that it's not too bad today. I'll probably be fairly tired by the time I get home from wrestling tonight, but that'll be okay. :)
The Deadlands game was a good time, and my character may have acquired herself a unicorn. Yeah, I know, really bizarre, but fun too! :) Unfortunately, I'm missing the next game, so I dunno what's gonna happen with the unicorn. We had to leave off in the middle of a scene, when we realized it was 10 after 1, and the building closed at 1. No one came up to give us the 15 minute warning, so we got a bit caught up in things. :)
Hunter on Saturday was also fun, though a bit frustrating, as we all nearly died. The dice were not with us. :( I was also a bit tired by the end of that game.
LARP on Saturday went very well, especially after I had a soda with my dinner... :) We got five brand new players, and Jesi has now joined the game, so we had 23 people signed in, which may be a record for this game. w00t! :) Slowly but surely, I'm catching up on what's going on in that game, and thus am becoming able to run more and more stuff.
Worked on a bunch of crochet on Friday night, but there's still more to do. Need to go shopping at some point this week for birthday gifts, as there are three birthdays in my family this week: Nathaniel's tomorrow, and Sarah and Darci-Anna's on Sunday. Maybe I'll do that tonight before class, if I'm not too lazy... :) .

End of the Work Week Wisdom:
"And if its cold, you know, just deal with it." --Jerome, on short skirts
Brought to you by Jerome and I talking about girls and the need for excessive amounts of shoes and clothing. :)
Seriously, though, I discovered something last night. I have 6 pairs of boots. One pair is too small. One pair is too big. One pair has very high heels that hurt my feet if I wear them for too long. One pair has one of the zipper pulls broken, so they have a key ring hanging off of them at the zipper. The other two pairs are acceptable. That, my friends, is ricockulous.
(I also have 6 pairs of sandals / flip flops. 3 pairs of sneakers or in vaguely that style. 2 pairs of dressy shoes. That's a grand total of 17 pairs of shoes. Wanna know how many I wear on a regular basis? 2-3 in the winter, and another couple in the summer. And yet I realized I didn't have dress shoes that went with my outfit for game tomorrow night. Wha?!)
As for clothes, well, yeah, I suppose I have a lot of that too. The case in point that brought about the above comment was the fact that I have something along the lines of about 12 schoolgirl skirts. But that is apparently acceptable. :) And yes, there is a lot of my clothes that I don't wear often, but I also have three somewhat distinct wardrobes: work clothes, casual clothes, and game clothes. I'm not sure which of those makes up the biggest chunk of my overall wardrobe. Let's just hope it's casual clothes and move on... :)
Right. So now you all know how silly I can be. Hurrah! :)
::..::
In other news, I'm feeling considerably less stressed today than I was yesterday. This could be because it's Friday, or it could be because I went home from work yesterday, made a dinner that sounded really good to me, and went and spent the majority of my birthday gift cards. So by the time I got home, dealing with in-weeks was a breeze, and then I ended up getting online and talking to people for a while... so grooviness all around. :) .

Stress. Blows. Goats.
Generally speaking, I shouldn't have much in the way of stress. My job is relatively easy, I don't have some sort of crazy home life, and generally speaking, things are all good. But for whatever reason, I've been crazy stressed lately, and it's really gotten pretty ricockulous.
There are any of a plethora of reasons to which I could attribute this, I suppose. For example, I had a lot of days off work last month, and got to be quite the slacker. This meant I got used to having lots of free time, and also that I got behind on a whole lot of stuff. Now that I've been working full weeks again, I don't have near as much free time, and I'm still behind on stuff I'd like to be doing. Thus I look around, see all the stuff that hasn't been done, and stress out about it.
I also am somewhat legitimately busy all of a sudden. There's a number of factors here, as well... two new TT games, plus running a LARP every couple of weeks, plus spending an increased amount of time online in the evenings... and yes, the last of those very much does have a purpose and a reason behind it... it's not just idle surfing time...
I suppose there is at least one big benefit that I've noticed to all of this craziness, and that's that I don't go shopping hardly EVER. So w00t for saving money, right? And w00t for not buying more crap that I really don't need!
Well, at any rate, having identified the craziness is a good thing, and now trying to implement ways of decreasing the stress is at the top of the docket. Hopefully those ideas will help, and then also hopefully it's mostly just that this month is one of sheer insanity.
It's odd that I'm looking towards the end of the semester as the point in time when life seems to be looking like it will get easier... and I'm not even in school... hurrah for academia?
At any rate, yeah. I will get through this month, and I will get rid of this stress... it's all good... :) .

Yay for new music! :)
I got all three of Hungry Lucy's CDs in the mail yesterday, which means I have lots of happy girlie goth-y stuff to listen to now. I've not actually heard all of it just yet, but I like what I have heard.
I also managed to find either all or almost all of the the new Lacuna Coil CD. I say either all or almost all, because the first two times I got "Fragile," it was actually "Elegy" by Leaves' Eyes... yes, metal... yes, female fronted... but not Lacuna Coil. Now I'm not 100% sure that I have the actual song "Closer." But I'd say that the rest of the CD is definitely Lacuna Coil. So that's a bonus. :)
Interestingly, between these CDs, I now have 2 new Depeche Mode covers, and I like both of them. Hungry Lucy does "Blue Dress," which I had heard before and really liked. Lacuna Coil does "Enjoy the Silence," and I was REALLY worried about that one. I have the Failure and HIM covers of the same song, both of which I like pretty well... I just wasn't sure how it would translate out to a woman singing it. It worked out just fine. I was pleased. :)
In other news, I finished Emelia's soundtrack last night, though I forgot to check and see if "Amelia" (which I think is Sisters of Mercy, but I may be wrong about that) would work. Ah well. It's a nice, compact soundtrack. Background is over halfway written now, and I know where I'm going with the rest. I kinda want to finish it this afternoon so I can give it to Jim tonight at our LARP ST meeting, but we'll see if that happens or not... :) .

Bored and random today. I think my attention span is hiding somewhere... but I haven't a clue where...
I want to work on Emelia's background, but I haven't quite finished her soundtrack yet. That should probably be a project for tonight, so that I can work on her background sooner rather than later. I'd like to have it done for Friday. :) Of course, due to my badness from taking "Veteran of the Weird West," any given game could be her last... there's a 1 in 54 chance, at least... it will suck if I write her background this week and then have to make a new character come Friday. :(
Been listening to a lot of TMBG and related stuff lately, which can only contribute to the randomness. I like randomness, though, so that's okay. :)
I also like kitties, and wish I could have one of my own. But I really can't, between my tiny apartment, too much yarn, and not enough time spent at home. So I'll have to content myself with playing with Grant's kitties when I go over there. They are too cute for words. :)
I'm hermitting tonight. It's been too long since I've done that, and I need to recharge. A recharged Dawn is a much happier Dawn. :) I suspect there will be attempts made to make me not a hermit, but I plan to resist... we'll see how that goes... :)
It should be noted that I'm not in anything even remotely resembling a bad mood, in fact, I'm exceptionally happy... but I can feel the cranky Dawn approaching, and I'd rather cut her off than unleash her.
Anyways, I so need to work on some crochet. I haven't since Friday night, and that was really sporadic at best... .

Had a great weekend all around, and finally got to see "Gigantic," which is the TMBG documentary. It was very kewl, and lots of random. I like random. :)
At work every day this week, which means it will probably be a long week... *sigh*... got lots to do, too, which adds to that. Good news is that I've already gotten one chunk of stuff done, and can probably get another chunk done tomorrow... in theory, at least... :)
Oh, we got to start both of the new TT games that I'm playing in this weekend. Deadlands on Friday, hunter on Saturday.
The Deadlands game was a good time. Most of the game was character creation, but I've definitely already got the hang of my character, Emelia, which is fun. She's a mad scientist, and I've already turned in one potential invention... I'm planning to make a utility belt, a la Batman, sooner or later... :)
The hunter game was also a good time, though there was much character creation all throughout the day. Jericho is already proving to be considerably more coherent than River, but that's quite alright. Someone needs to be coherent and bold... mostly bold. :) And yeah, the Telepathy numina is RIPPED! One more level, and I can get into peoples' heads even if they're in another room... wow...
Oh, and in other fun gaming news, I've got 5 of the remaining 6 Vampire books that I didn't own winging their way to me as I type. That means I only need to track down one more book, and I will own a version of every Vampire book, from 1st edition through revised. This is ricockulous. However, what is more ricockulous is the likelihood of me finding that one last book... because, of course, it's a 1st ed. book. *sigh*
I'm also going to need a bigger Vampire shelf... :) .
