Random ramblings cuz I have nothing better to do... or something... :)
This is the site formerly known as Anneke's Haven. Within, you will find information about my previous White Wolf chronicles, and other random gaming related stuff. I also have a blog here, where I talk about pretty much everything and anything, though it's primarily about my exciting life... the definition of exciting definitely being up for debate.
Enjoy your visit, and come back soon!

GenKota Winery is a Family Affair

Texas Art Teacher Fired for Taking Children to an Art Museum?

Two more by Cindy, five more by me.

Cindy:
The Top Ten Songs by Green Day

Of course, that one ends up being all the more amusing when you realize that I wrote an article last night, which probably won't go up for about a week and a half, talking about how 1,039 and Kerplunk! are the best Green Day albums... :)

New York Times Bureau Chief Defends NSA Wire-Tapping Story

Me:
Top Ten Songs by Type O Negative

Top Ten Songs by They Might Be Giants

The 21st Annual Lemp Mansion Halloween Party

That's my other two top ten lists, and an article about something to do in St. Louis for Halloween. Because I had to write at least one more Halloween article, and I've got a couple more weeks to write some more... :)

And then, two more book reviews of mine:

Review of The Last Emperors: A Social History of Qing Imperial Institutions by Evelyn S. Rawski

Review of Hired Swords: The Rise of Private Warrior Power in Early Japan by Karl F. Friday

The weekends are always slow for getting new articles up, but Cindy and I each have one.

Cindy: The Top Ten Songs by Poison

Me: Red Bread: Collectivization in a Russian Village by Maurice Hindus

Yes, mine is a book review on a pretty old book, but that's cuz it was modified from a take-home essay that I wrote a long time ago. I've got a lot of book reviews in the queue at the moment, because I wrote a whole lot of those while in school. And AC specifically will print old school papers, so I'm totally set. :)

There are other articles of mine in the queue too, but expect a lot of book reviews for now, since I don't have many ideas on what to write about. I need ideas. Give me ideas. :)

Five Things I Wish I Would Have Known Before I Got a Cat (or Two)

And it even features an adorable picture of Vlad! :)

Star Wars Original Trilogy Released on DVD, as Original Theatrical Versions

Han. Shot. First.

Making Your Own CD Cover

Because it's fun.

Costuming at DragonCon 2006

Mostly about the Dawn look-alike costume contest, though that didn't make it into the title.

Cindy has two of her top 10 song articles up now:

The Top Ten Songs by Guns n' Roses

The Top Ten Songs by The Eagles

I know she will have more soon, and I have two more pending as well. This was a sweet gig, especially for music lovers like us. :)

::..::

In other news, TGIF and stuff. I need the weekend. Badly. Of course, I'll be spending a chunk of it selling stuff at the yard sale tomorrow (hopefully), so I won't be getting the extra sleep I need... maybe Sunday...

Oi.

Yay!

Top 10 Songs by the Cruxshadows

See, I do write something other than articles about costuming! :)

(Of course, expect a couple more of these "Top 10 Songs by" pieces, as I have 2 more, and I think Cindy has several as well. :) )

Two new articles today, one by Cindy, and one by me. :)

Cindy's: Is Doctor Envy Hampering Your Diagnosis?

Mine: So, You Want to be a Pirate for Halloween?

Eventually, I will have articles that aren't about costuming... really... :)

Now, for a normal post. :)

Three new articles from Cindy:

The Top September Event in Carbondale is Beer Fest

Hellz. Yes. I will be there.

The Top Chinese Food in Carbondale is New Kahala Fast Food

Again with the yes. It's also nice, cuz it's less than a block from my apartment, and I have the phone number programmed into my phone. So I can call them, and walk over 15-30 minutes later, and have tasty Chinese food. :)

The Top Non-Daily Newspaper in Carbondale

Well, I like Nightlife, because it has the regional concert information in it, but Heartland Women is a very kewl paper as well. :)

Hopefully starting next week, I'll have some of mine to post as well. I've got just a few in the queue right now, with plans for many more to be added. :)

I probably neglected to mention this on our return, but while we were at Dragon*Con, we heard on a couple of occasions, straight from Rogue's mouth, that the Cruxshadows were poised to make their debut on the Billboard charts with their newest single, "Sophia." I am proud to report today that they did it!

Hot Dance Singles

The number one Dance Single this week? "Sophia" by The Cruxshadows!!!!!!

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Hot Singles Sales

And they're #7 on the overall singles charts!

This is amazing, so this gets its own post. Regular post later!

Three more from Cindy:

The Top Video Rental Store in Carbondale

The Top Pizza in Carbondale

Southern Illinois Child Advocacy Center Promotes Education, Safety

I'm with her on the top video rental store, Family Video, though I'd put Blockbuster at the bottom of my list, because they annoy me greatly. I've only been to Hollywood Video maybe twice, and that was usually to buy movies when they had a sale on used movies.

As for the pizza, though, I'm not a big fan of Pag's, nor the whole wheat crust at Quatro's, but that's okay. They are good pizzas, I'm just one of those crazy people who LIKES the junky chain pizza better than anything else. Mmmmm... Papa Johns...

I most definitely should not think about pizza before lunch. :)

Other than that, it's pretty much a boring old Wednesday. At least this makes the week halfway over. Tomorrow will be a crazy day, and Friday should be tame. w00t for tame days! :)

Two new pieces from Cindy, which, unfortunately, should have been posted yesterday or earlier...

Sept. 11 Anniversary Makes Me Long for Ignorance

Cedarhurst Craft Fair Attracts 15,000 Visitors, Great Art

Unfortunately, Cedarhurst was this past weekend... so yeah... that is the only gripe I have thus far with Associated Content... sometimes it takes them a while to get around to putting up your new content... :(

I've got a couple of articles pending at the moment, and a few more in the works... luckily, none of mine are time sensitive...

Anyways, these new ones from Cindy are still great articles, so read them! :)

::..::

In other news, Beerfest is Saturday, and I am happy. I bought my ticket, assuming that at least some of the usual crew would be going, and then discovered I was wrong. Luckily, some of the people who have turned 21 (or older) recently decided that they wanted to go, so I will have people to taste beer with. Hurrah! (Never mind the fact that I hate beer; they have other tasty alcohol to sample at Beerfest, and barbeque that is to die for. :) )

At least this weekend is tame. The next three will not be. Yard sale on the 23rd, Family Weekend Craft Fair the next weekend, and Ren Faire the third weekend. Then I get a weekend off. Craft fairs are almost like a second job (and this writing thing is turning out to be kinda like a third job), but at least I like them. :)

Back from DragonCon, but barely recovering from the nasty cold that I seem to have obtained in the process. DragonCon was awesome; the cold is not. :(

In my absence, Cindy published a whole bunch of articles:

Eye Doctors Can Find More than Just Visual Problems

Pre-Katrina Visit to New Orleans Makes Me Wish I Could Go Back Again

Eight Ways to Save Money Even on a Tight Budget

The Basics of Cataract Surgery: What You Need to Determine If You Need Cataract Surgery

Southern Illinois City Fights for a Drink of Water

And the link to mine will be here as soon as I get it. I'm just awaiting final approval at this point... and I've got at least a couple more planned... I just need to find time to write them!

Busy busy busy. I'll maybe post something of some sort of substance when the busy-ness subsides... if that ever happens...
