The Politics of Undeath

A Face from the Past
Aug. 5-9, 1997
SN: In the weeks prior to this story, Anneke had been beefing up security around her estate. Little did the PCs know that what they thought would make them safe would actually end up trapping them for a time! The title of this story refers to the presence of an ex-boyfriend of one of the members of Satan's Night Out, who was Kinfolk to one of the Lupines that showed up in Dallas.
During a regular Tuesday night meeting, the power on the grounds of Anneke's estate goes out, trapping everyone who lives there in their houses. Once the power is returned, Narconti comes downstairs and informs them that during the outage, someone came in, unstaked Obis, and fed him blood. The group splits up and searches the premises for clues. They find a variety of junk thrown into the yard, while Derek and Hiccup watch a strange cloud moving slowly away from the house. James takes his car to follow the cloud as it descends in the countryside, and finds out (by slashing at part of the cloud) that it is some sort of human-like creature, who seems to rend the fabric of space, and escapes through the hole he made. During the next day, a young girl comes by the house several times, asking for members of Satan's Night Out, and Obis. They are able to track her down at her hotel, and question her. She ends up being Obis' niece, and a Lupine, so they send her to Canada to run with the pack that Narconti knows there. Three other members of her pack are destroyed in New Mexico by Darrell Houston, a werewolf hunter.
In the aftermath, Anneke decides that it is time to clean up all of the "loose ends" running around in Dallas. As a result, Obis, Matthew, and Serpentor are all destroyed.

The Princemakers
Aug. 10-16, 1997
SN: I just don't like loose ends... I always thought that Chicago needed a Prince, and I thought that rather than put one in on my own, I'd let the players choose who it should be. Conveniently enough, they chose my first choice! They really enjoyed this story, so much that they volunteered to do the same sort of job later on in the chronicle!
After a farewell concert by Burning Poppies (formerly Satan's Night Out), the Archons head to Yiaros to select the new Prince of Chicago. Maldavis is selected as Prince.

Quieting the Masses
Aug. 16-25, 1997
SN: This story is really an extension of the previous one, but what the Archons did in each one was so different that I split them into 2 separate stories.
Edgar Spoonce joins the Archons temporarily, by order of the Black Hand. The Archons accompany Maldavis to Chicago, where they stay briefly to help her firmly establish her authority. The Nihilists (Damien, Gengis, and Dickie) attack and destroy Thomas Ewell ("Sheriff"), forcing Maldavis to call a Blood Hunt on her former friends. Damien is destroyed upon his arrival in Gary, Indiana; Gengis is destroyed by Edgar Spoonce; and Dickie escapes.

Magical Disappearing Vampires
Aug. 26-29, 1997
SN: This was a pretty standard story. The only fun twist was the tension between Lydie (a Setite that Derek had gone to high school with) and Talon, which had started on Yiaros the first time they went. Talon was, needless to say, the least concerned of the group when Lydie called, hysterical, about receiving a warning of her impending doom...
The Archons go to Atlanta, where Kindred have been mysteriously disappearing. After some investigation, Lydie is discovered to be the next target. Ultimately, the persons responsible are found to be a Sabbat Pack, who the Archons destroy. In the aftermath, the Archons collect the library of the pack, and take it and Lydie back to Dallas with them.

The Justicar-makers?
Sept. 20-25, 1997
SN: Okay, I'll admit it was a bit of a stretch. But it's not as though the Archons actually put Art Morgan into power. They were really just there to help Narconti decide what his recommendation to the Inner Council would be!
In anticipation of Xavier, the Gangrel Justicar, stepping down, the Archons go to Washington, D.C., to talk to Art Morgan for Narconti. As a result of the "dream therapy" which Brittne has been trying on her friends, the Archons dream about the slaying of former Prince Marissa, learning of Anneke's part in it. Finally, the Archons lead Art Morgan and his "Archons" on a mission against the Sabbat in Baltimore. This raid helps to turn the tides, and soon after, Baltimore is again held by the Camarilla.

The St. Claire Contract
Oct. 10-16, 1997
SN: This story was a slight revision of a story presented in Project: Twilight (a Werewolf supplement). Once we covered why the FBI agents could only go out at night, it went pretty well!
The Archons go to St. Claire, NY, as FBI Special Affairs Division (SAD) agents to investigate recent kidnappings. After some investigation, and many wild goose chases, the Nappy Napper (who was the kidnapper) and a gang of werewolves, kinfolk, and humans are destroyed.
Related happenings: Thomas Wolfe leaves to become one of Art Morgan's Archons. Dieter and Jane arrive in Dallas to become Anneke's Archons.
